H.G. Wells, science fiction writer and inventor, watched with hopelessness as the Villain of Tomorrow known as Tempus escaped. Having completed his scheme, Tempus believed he had prevented an Utopian future from emerging. Wells would have a hard time arguing with him. Till the figure dressed in the same future fashion as Tempus arrived.
"Don't fear, Mr. Well. Utopia is harder to destroy then what Tempus thinks. Even if it won't seem that way to him." said the man of the future which due to a badge Wells recognized as a Temporal Police Officer.
"So you are someone else has stop Tempus' scheme? And he will be punished for his actions?" asked Wells, as he looked at the other man.
"Yes and no." was the answer, which confused the man in the victorian black suit.
"What do you mean yes and no?" asked the writer of the War of the Worlds.
"Time is not what you think. Not a one way street of past, present and managed to use that. We branched the universe before Tempus began his scheme. One which he missed being the mainstream one. The other existing along side yet separate from used the same measure to trick Tempus, sending him to a timeline of Distopia. So we punished him by giving his what he wanted."
"But... this second universe. Mr. Kent and Ms. Lane are soulmates? Will not the elimination of their relationship destroy Utopia?"
"The truth is, soulmates as you know them, do not exist. True some souls and lives match each other strongly, which causes them to be common across timelines and the multiverse. But it just means that one couple has a 99.9 percent success rate and anotehr might have 99.89 success rate. As long as Mr. Kent becomes a noble and kind Superman of great moral strength, Utopia will always exist.
However, the timeline Tempus created has intrigued the rest of us. To the point we have allowed it to continued, as well as smoothing out some of the tiniest bumps while letting nature takes most of the course. If it would interest you, Mr. Well, we could allow you to see how the timeline expresses itself. Time collapse for the most interesting points. Be assured, it is safe and no harm to space-time its self."
Wells, believe this man knew what he was doing, decided to agree. Especially since the man didn't believe he had much to stop him.
Handed a crystal view, Wells returned home. Later, pulling out the Crystal to display a hologram of the events of the split timeline. The destiny of...
Cat and Clark
Chapter one
Tempus finished mixing the chemicals together, placing them the bottles and containers he had specially selected. To match the ones in the apartments he would break into. The chemical was a variant of a compound which was used by woman known as Miranda, a perfume she had named Revenge. The potion lowered inhibitions, especially sexual inhibitions, acting as a kind of love potion for the first person the victim who had been sprayed by Revenegr saw.
'However, these have had a few modifications made. First off, chemical targeting. to make sure my victims fall in love with the person I choose instead of being random. Then a special blending of Red K, to make sure the potion can affect any Kryptonians. Like say... Superman. Once I finish the replacement of these health and beauty, when these two get together, sparks will fly and the future will hopefully burn. Which means it's off to replace these bottles at the moment when it will do the most bad, which is why I decided on this moment.' thought Tempus, as he brought out his future tech to allow him to break into two apartments unnoticed. He ddin't notice the mixing in of some other chemicals into his contaminated products. He couldn't know someone had changed Lois Lane's items as well.
Later...
Cat steps into her apartment first, having convinced Clark to come home with her to keep himself save from some strange government agent called Trask. Clark followed her, wairly, as Cat shut the door. She told him, "I'm going to change into something more comfortable."
This caused Clark to sweat, which mixing with his deodorant, aftershave, cologne, annd other body care items. Each one containing the modifed Revenge which Tempus had snuch into the bottles. Clark looked around at the room, filled with erotic themed but tasteful art. He also noticed a bookshelf which contained books which any well read person would agree with. Everything from famous biographies to works by Henry James and D.H. Lawrence.
In the other room, Cat who had left to find an outfit which to seduce her guest was sorting through a number of wild and sexy outfits. She pulls out one after another, before putting it back as she realized it would be a little too strong for the farmboy. Then it hit her, "Farm boy moves to the big city. He's looking for a little piece of home."
She pulled out a casual sweatshirt which was grey with Metropolis University on it as well as a pair of blue jeans. Once she had a sexy but casual look,.she finished off with the new perfume she loved. Giving herself a selective covering, enough to linger but no overwhelm, she didn't notice the red shimmers in it. The tiny particles of Red Kryptonite which mixed with the Revenge perfume, to affect Clark. Tempus had made sure each of the contaminated supplies was the one hundred solution of Revenge, which would cause it to become permanent once enough was inhaled.
In moments, she was out in the living room again. The dark haired man seeing the brown haired green eyed woman's casual look. He sighed deeply, also breathing in some of the perfume. A light red sparkle danced over his eyes unseen. The scent of the perfume was intoxicating to him, and he said so.
"Thanks. It's just something new I discovered with scent I couldn't say no to. I think a Pinot Noir would be nice. I've got one chilling." she said as she moved past the man and into the kitchen area. Pulling a bottle out of the fridge and a couple of glasses, she began to pour.
Watching her, through the pass-through counter area, he said, "You've got quite a library."
She answered with a sly smile, "I do read."
"I know you do. It's just your place isn't what most people would expect..."
"You haven't seen the bedroom." she said, likely joking till she saw Clark looking a little shocked. She continued, ""Relax. I may never show it to you either."
Clark, somehow felt very disappointed he couldn't see the bedroom... or Cat in her bedroom. But he smiled as she did, as she clinked her wine glass against Clark's.
"You're full of surprises." he continued with her.
"You have no idea." she continued, as they drank the wine. The wine, again, contained a variant of Revenge which was injested. Amplifiying the inhibition relaxing affects of alcohol. As time continued, and the stereo began to play classical music as they ate cheese and crackers with their wine.
He asked her, "So what made you get into the gossip business?"
"Clark, we're all in the gossip business."
"Yeah, but you get paid for it."
"I got the best stuff. You'd be surprised the kind of secrets some people carry around with them." she said, he smile widening, "You have any secrets, Clark?" As she did that, she began to run her fingers up Clark's legs. In another world, this would be where things would begin to end. However, Tempus didn't want to stop what he had begun. Which is why a few things happened. Information was lost or manipulated. Phone calls to government offices were slowed down or stopped at the moment. Paranoid men were lead on a wild goose hunt. Revenge was building up in the system of two people, along with radioactive alien rocks in one. It was reaching a tipping point as Clark was loosing more and more of his resistance to Cat and Cat... was about the same when it came to Clark at the moment. Then the point tipped.
