Declaimer: I don´t own Detective Conan, just the new characters I created. The plot, however, is mine. XD
A/N: Hellooooo! Ready for one more chapter! This one isn´t about the twins... It´s about... HAIBARA! XD Enjoy.
It was a nice summer Sunday. The sun shone on the sky, birds sung from happiness and, in general, everyone was happy. Some days could do that to you, while other could easily bring you down… It was, however, a nice day. Nice enough for a date.
In the middle of a crowded street, sitting on a bench under some trees for protection, a girl was waiting patiently, her eyes on the thick book that she was reading with a small smile, apparently enjoying it. Her long light-brown hair neatly styled into a side braid, a white flower ornamenting it in the end. The wind blew suddenly, and she shifted her position, still reading the book. Yes, it was a nice day to be reading a book.
Five minutes went by, the girl not moving, but her eyes weren´t on the book anymore. From time to time, she would eye her surroundings, narrowing her eyes as if she noticed someone, before shaking her head and resuming her reading. She also checked the time, looking at her elegant wristwatch, noticing there was still time.
There was time for what?
"Ai-chan!" A voice, a male one, suddenly called the distracted woman, whom looked up rather annoyed, though she tried not to show it much. "Sorry for making you wait so long. The practice took longer than it should have…" A man, in his thirty, stood before the elegant woman, she herself obviously younger than twenty; wearing a black suit. "Did you wait long?"
Ai would be lying if she said she waited long, but ten minutes wasn´t exactly short either. However, she just smiled and said no. "But please stop adding chan to my name, Ryuusuke-san. With the times we went out together already, I think the chan can be dropped." The man just laughed slightly, ruffling her perfect hair.
"Now, now, don´t be mad." Ryuusuke said, smiling even more. "Then again, you are right… Ai." As if magically, the girl blushed a little bit. He said it so teasingly she just couldn´t have stopped herself, even though she sure wanted to. Then again, it was he, the man she looked up to… not blushing when he said her name that way would be a crime. "Sorry for arriving late."
"It´s fine. I said I didn´t wait long, didn´t?" Standing near the tired man, she smiled. Ryuusuke was similar to her in many, not so obvious of course, ways. And she admired his will to fight for his dreams, rooting for him every time her busy schedule of a college student allowed.
Sighing, Ryuusuke took something out, giving it to Ai with a smile. "Here. I managed to read it all, and as you said, it was surprisingly a good story. Maybe I should listen to your book suggestions more." Nodding, she prepared herself to hide the book, when his hand caught hers. "Open it."
Blinking a few times, Ai did as she was told, ending up staring at two tickets to his next game… In seconds, her expression changed from confusion to delight. "How…? But…? Weren´t they all sold out?" A curse she had to bear as a student… the day the tickets went on sale, she had a presentation and an exam, becoming unable to buy them. And at the next time, they were already sold out.
"You said you would be busy, so I saved two just in case." Winking, he watched amused as she smiled and bowed, clearly happy. After all, he couldn´t allow one of his greatest fans to miss the big game, could he? "I should be going now. The plane´s about to leave…"
"Oh, right." She had almost forgotten her own agenda, and if she did, someone would be rather angry. "Have fun then. Don´t make your wife angry." Nodding, Ryuusuke ran off, leaving the waving Ai behind. "Good luck!" It was his wedding anniversary, and she hopped it would go well. "Now then…"
Hiding the book and the tickets, Ai looked at the time. Two more minutes and he would arrive… Noticing a show window, she quickly straightened her hair, making sure everything was perfect. She was wearing the beige dress he had complimented once, a light pinkish jacket, wedge sandals, some cute accessories, and, more importantly, a smile. He always said she looked ten times cuter when she was smiling…
Blushing suddenly, she forced herself to look away, pretending she wasn´t nervous. After all, that wasn´t their first date, so why should she be nervous? It was their tenth date, they were going out for almost half a year now… "I´m not nervous, I´m not nervous…" She repeated to herself, breathing slowly. For some reason, it was easier facing Gin than the few minutes before his arrival…. Oh, the torture! Who would have thought she could act so girlishly?
"Ai?" A voice, one she was expecting and waiting for over a day now, called her back to the human world, he head shooting up hopefully. And there he was, standing before her with a smile and a single rose, her loved boyfriend. I did not just think that! Smiling, Ai stood up and received the flowers. "You didn´t wait long, right? I think I am on time but…"
"No, no, I just finished my meeting with Ryuusuke-san and you arrived right after him." For a second, something flashed in the man´s eye, but she couldn´t put her finger on it. "Thanks for the flower, it´s lovely." Before he used to bring big bouquets, but she had made him promise to drop it or bring only one flower, since she wasn´t in the mood to carry it around when they were on a date.
"Gland you liked. Shall we go?" Smiling even more, Ai locked her arm around his, the flower gently hid in her bag. By now, she had learned to leave some space for it. "Today, I prepared something special." Looking at him, she wondered what it was, since he hadn´t told her anything. And considering he was busier than her, if that was humanly possible, she couldn´t help but worry for his health. Ever since the second year of high school, he started becoming more and more like a certain stupid detective she knew… He, however, kept quiet about it, distracting her with other subjects as they walked down the streets.
Haibara Ai, the well-known student of XX University, science course; had always been loved by many, and hated by others, mostly girls. It was stupid not to admit she was pretty, gorgeous even, and the male part of the Uni just couldn´t keep their eyes off her. After all, she had everything. Beauty, brains and a hell of personality. However, none of her admires had managed to catch her heart, no matter how hard they had tried. Not because they were ugly or stupid, no, no… but because she had a boyfriend!
The said boyfriend was also somewhat a celebrity in the Uni, but for other reasons. No, no, he was handsome and all that, smart of course. However, the biggest reason he was well known… well, it was because he was a detective. He started when he was a child, in a small group named The Detective Boys; but it was at high school that he started going solo. Adding the fact his mentor was none other than THAT Kudo Shinichi, currently Kuroba Shinichi but no one cared; he was almost immediately noticed. His skills weren´t as good as Kudo´s, but they were better than of many detectives. And with time, he polished them, being one of the most well-known detective´s now.
Tsuburaya Mitsuhiko, a first year in Criminal Investigation, was dating Haibara Ai, and everyone just couldn't wait for them to break up. Their hopes, however, have been fruitless until now, as the pair grew closer and closer. Even with the fact they almost didn´t see each other, busy with their own things, they still managed to keep close, what enraged more than one person.
Anyway, as Ai and Mitsuhiko approached a park, the scientist began to wonder again. They had fallen silent, enjoying each other's company, what allowed her to think. The park, she knew it back and forward, having spent there many times a teenager playing "pick up" with Ayumi. What, a girl had to have some fun. There wasn´t anything interesting there, aside from a small lake. People weren´t allowed, however, bathing there, though she doubted it was for that that they were going there.
"Ai, don´t think too much." He stated, smiling at her concentrated face. "If you keep thinking too much, you´ll have wrinkles." Not the best thing he could have said, and he quickly regretted it, since she gave him one of her evil eyes that had once sent even Conan running. "Kidding, kidding, we are here."
Indeed they were. In the middle of the garden the public workers had worked so hard to grow, a small table rested with two chairs, as if waiting for them. "Like I said, I wanted to do something special… I prepared your best food and… well, I thought it would be nice to have lunch here…" His face was growing redder and redder with every minute, as he bubbled under his breath.
"Mitsuhiko." Ai called, smiling slightly. He was so cute. Even after dating for so long, and knowing each other for longer, he sometimes acted so insecure. Even though she liked the mature Mitsuhiko, that one was cute too. "It is perfect." Indeed, it was; the beautiful flowers blooming around them, green leaves protecting them from the sun, the lake sparkling as the light hit it… Honestly, she couldn´t have asked for more.
Clearing his throat, Mitsuhiko pulled the chair, waiting for her to sit first as a true gentleman. He needed to thank his parents for raising him well, the strict education coming in hand in such situations. Even that day, after being her boyfriend for such a long time, he couldn´t help but feel embarrassed, happy and simple blessed. To think his childhood crush would work out…
As they were eating, his cooking skills having been praised more than once, he remembered something. Because of his embarrassment and jitter, he had forgotten to say how beautiful she looked. Even now, as they were eating, he just couldn´t find a chance to say it. Was that normal? Handing her the dessert, he noticed the watch she was wearing, finding himself unable to stop smiling.
"What is it?" She asked, half smiling herself. What? He had that effect on her… and it´s not like she had a reason not to smile. Everything had ended long ago, and she had decided to live her life as she had dreamt so many times. Laugh with friends, find a boyfriend, marry and have many, many children. So far, everything was going good.
"You are using it." He pointed at the watch and started eating his own ice cream. "The present I gave you on your birthday. I though you said it was too much…?"Of course she had said it, but he knew she had liked it a lot more than she had let other think. After all, after knowing her for so long, he had begun to understand her better. Blushing, Ai wanted to say something, but he just laughed. "Can I try your ice cream?"
Blinking, Ai stared to give the glass filled with ice cream, but he looked almost hopefully at the spoon she was using. Could he…? "Stupid." She said, her face as pink as the roses blooming nearby. So he wanted… Well, he WAS her boyfriend, and doing such things were normal… Noticing his dark eyes were still on the spoon, the scientist took a deep breathe, before taking a little bit of the frozen dessert and extending it to him… "Say Ahhh."
It would be stupid not to notice how Mitsuhiko´s face blushed, how Ai´s face blushed even more, how he quickly ate it without looking away, how his heart seemed to beat faster, how Ai cursed her own pulse that raced… It would be stupid not to notice how much they liked each other, nor how Ai asked him right away to share his ice cream… And it would be stupid not to notice that the next thirty minutes they spent feeding each other ice cream, as if hooked, not even noticing the doves that were staring at them from a nearby tree… Ah, love.
After their… lunch, Mitsuhiko took her hand once again, walking her to their next destination. After all, Hakase said he wanted Ai home by nine, so they had to use their time well. As they walked, some people recognized him, asking for an autograph or, some more courageous girls, for his number. They didn´t last long, though, one look form Ai enough to send them all home crying. The detective actually felt happy, knowing she cared so much about him…
"Two tickets please." Mitsuhiko asked as they arrived at the Beika Observatory, noticing right away the look that the clerk gave them. "Let´s go…" There was a new exposition, when the celling and corridors were disguised as a night sky, creating a maze. He though it would be fun to try…
Nodding, Ai tightened her gasp around his hand, looking at the entrance. It was all dark, and though she didn´t fear darkness, she wasn´t in the mood to find herself lost. She was, however, with Mitsuhiko, so maybe it wouldn´t be that bad.
As soon as they came in, she quickly forgot her worries. It was… amazing! Almost real… It was like they were walking in the middle of the night sky, so many stars surrounding him. "Wow." She heard him say, before he turned around to look at her and laughed. "Look, now you are made off of billion stars."
Confused, she looked at herself, then at him, starting to laugh too. "Look who´s talking. You don't look better." For a moment, they just stood there, laughing at each other. It was nice. Being with him was always nice, even when they were both irritated. Somehow, she didn´t feel that way with other people, and maybe that´s why she was dating him. "Let´s go." Now, she didn´t mind getting lost in there, because that place looked almost magician.
In the back of her mind, she wondered if Kaito had helped prepare it, knowing the observatory needed more people; but soon she found out she didn't care, walking hand in hand with her boyfriend in a magical place. Next time, she would prepare something special too, since she was sure she wouldn't forget this date.
Ten minutes before nine, Mitushiko and Ai were standing out-side her house. The last time they had arrived late, Hakase had been so angry… "Today was fun." Ai said. It was. The lunch, stars, ice cream… the walk by the busy city… "Thank you."
Giving her bag back, the one he had to take away almost forcefully because she said she would feel bad if he carried everything; he nodded. "It was fun. Thank you, for putting up with me all this time." She giggled, he joined. And somehow, they didn´t want to part. They still had some minutes, didn´t they?
And so they stood there, looking into each other's eyes, without moving. Despite dating for six months, they hadn't kissed yet. And there was no hurry, no pressure. For the first time, Ai had time. The time she had been stolen off the first part of her life… now, she had it all. "I lost my chance earlier, but you look beautiful, Ai."
She took one-step forward, he stared at her with that little embarrassed smile of his she so liked, and before they knew it, they were kissing. It was a small kiss, a first kiss. It wasn´t long, but it was perfect. And it was over in seconds. "Good night." Ai mumbled, running into her house like an embarrassed teenager, closing the door right away, sliding down to the ground flaming. She finally… Giggling, she ran to her room, realizing she needed time to calm down.
Outside, Mitsuhiko stood frozen, his mind unable to process what just happened. Did they just… kiss? So… they had… their relationship improved? "Yes!" He stated before managed to think, blushing right away again. He knew that date would be great. Now, it just became better. "Good night, Ai…" He said, deciding it was time to go home. Go home and start planning the next date.
Ah, love.
A/N: Thanks for reading. I hope you liked, and you review a lot. XD I´m always waiting for your comments, just so you know. :P I also want to know how many of you though her date was with Higo Ryuusuke. XD
Bunnyz-chan: Hello again. :) The other two managed to hide it by creating a little of trouble... Plus, no one was expecting the twins to do a magic show, so they weren´t as attentive as they should. Oh, the fan club will appear again, sooner or later. :)
Guest: Did I surprise you? Or did I not? Anyway, hope you liked.
And for those of you whom read this annoying author note, I have a little special Omake to show what exactly was our dear Kuroba family doing while Ai had her date... Enjoy.
Omake:
Kuroba Shinichi had, all of sudden, cancelled all her appointments. And so did her husband, and even the children. The family was all gathered in the living room, watching a rather strange movie. It was about a girl and a boy on a date… They had everything for it, popcorn, sweets, chocolate in some cases…
There was, however, one problem. It wasn´t a movie. The girl and boy… well, they knew whom they were. Closely.
The Kudo family was spaying on Haibara Ai´s date, and clearly enjoying it.
"This will make great blackmail material." Shinichi mumbled and the twins, THE TWINS, nodded, grinning. What was wrong with that family…? "Oh, look, they are eating ice cream! That is so romantic… Kaito, tomorrow we are going on a date!"
Nodding, Kaito ate his chocolate dessert happily, since he had been trying to convince his lovely wife to go on a date with him for almost three months now. He knew asking his doves to follow the young couple was the right choice. That and the fact that now he had blackmail material against the genius scientist, what mean he would be able to receive all those photos of Shin-chan that devil had hid…. Kukuku, that´s why you never mess with Kuroba´s.
