Chapter 9

Mi Nyu woke up two hours ahead of time to prepare for the long grueling day ahead. After she showered and dressed, she researched A&G's solo artist Daisy. She read her profile and listened to a few of her tracks. Just as her profile stated, for a female artist in the R&B genre, Daisy doesn't possess a deep, resonating voice that captures the powerful emotions belonging in the style. Instead, her clear, sweet high octaved voice miracuously proves her capability to sing and portray emotions belonging in the genre.

Her dance tracks aren't very club-like. They're rather relaxing and playful. It's up to the listener if he/she wishes to dance or not. Daisy prides herself more so on her song's lyrical meaning and longevity above all else. It is because of this that she has a respectable presence in the industry.

Mi Nyu stood before her floor length mirror. She was told to dress comfortably because of the excessive movements she'd be doing in dance practice.

Comfortable for a guy required even more baggy clothes. A very difficult task for a woman impersonating a man. Mi Nyu wore her hair naturally straight. She didn't feel she looked very masculine but she desperately hoped others wouldn't feel the same. Fortunately, her long fringes hid her newly applied bandage.

She wore a black wife-beater underneath a loose fitted, bright blue and lime green texted Puma sweatshirt, with a pair of same brand, white sweat pants. From her closet, Mi Nyu grabbed a pair of blue, white and black Nikes.

"Dancing. Judging by the music videos, Hip Hop dancing is strenuous on the body. How am I going to be able to pull this off? Mi Nam has studied dancing styles. I've only done so because I was helping out Soo Young," she worried. "I wish I could call her. But last I checked, she went to New York to become a professional dancer. We've only talked periodically on the phone because our lives were so busy. Still, what I wouldn't give to have her teach me. These people probably won't be so patient with me."

Looking at her cell phone, she sighed. "Mi Nam is probably asleep. I won't disturb him."

Mi Nyu looked at the company poster of A. hanging on her wall. It was from her first photo shoot. A group shot of the four of them in a sepia background photo. She was amazed that she did not manage to mess it up. The photographer did wonders to make her look just as professional as the orignal three. Her eyes landed on Tae Kyung.

Will he be there today? I know President-ssi assigned him to do some type of work for a TV drama... I hope he isn't angry at me, anymore. Is he the type to hold a grudge? He most likely is.

She shook her head, tapping her fist at the side as she did so. "I've so much on my mind. I know it's Mi Nam's dream, and first step to find our mother...but how can idols live such an exhuasting life!" she whisper screamed.

5:18 am.

"I should get something to eat," she said to herself.

Exiting her room, Mi Nyu went to the kitchen to prepare herself a small meal. She was a little surprised to see her bandmates there. Shin Woo bade her a morning greet. Jeremy felt conflicted. He knew it would be impolite not to greet him but he was the cause of Tae Kyung not being here.

Then again...he got hurt because of Tae Kyung.

No! I will support Hyung! he thought. Jeremy stubbornly ignored her presence and continued pouring himself a bowl of Kellogg's Cocoa Krispies cereal.

"Good morning," Mi Nyu greeted them both in her disguised voice.

She curiously eyed Jeremy's cereal. "What are you eating, Jeremy?" she asked him.

He held out the box towards her to take. Mi Nyu read it. She had never tasted Western cereal. While she did taste pan cakes, waffles and fried eggs; Mi Nyu was ignorant to how cereal tasted.

"M-may I have a bowl?" she asked Jeremy.

Shin Woo sat his cup of herbal tee down, saying, "I should warn you. That has a somewhat of a high percental of sugar. Whenever Jeremy finishes a bowl, he has an unlimited amount of energy."

"Hyung, I always have energy," laughed Jeremy.

"Yes. Only after a bowl of that chocolaty stuff, you're a mad man," Shin Woo teased.

Jeremy shrugged his shoulders. He peered at Mi Nyu. Deep down, he wondered if he would like his favorite cereal. No one else in the house did. It would make a nice change to have someone who shared a bit in his same tastes.

"You can try it, Go Mi Nam," he told her.

She poured herself a small bowl and covered it with milk. After saying a quick grace, she dug into her meal. Her eyes widened. The cocoa really helped to awaken her tastebuds. She swallowed, smiling at the two.

"It's delicious! I see why you like it, Jeremy," she stated.

He grinned broadly at this. Nodding his head, he said in his usual enthusiastic tone, "See?! My mother wouldn't let me eat it every morning, growing up. She said no son of her's would have a mouth full of cavities. But it'd be worth it! I can't get enough of this stuff!"

She laughed. "England is different from Korea, huh?"

He nodded his head. "It is. There are different customs. It simular to America, I guess, but has a lot of old culture to it. Along with new ones. But I love it here too. Brings me closer to my father's heritage. I like being born of two respected heritages. They merge together in my blood," he declared. "No matter what anyone says, I'll never be ashamed of being biracial."

She and Shin Woo nodded. Mi Nyu gave Jeremy a bright smile, saying, "You're a very brave and admirable person. It'd be foolish for someone to dislike you for such an ignorant reason."

Jeremy's face began to heat up. His heart drummed loudly due to her words. His eyes darted back and forth, avoiding her gaze. "Errr...uh...yeah,"he mumbled.

At precisely six o'clock, the A. company van came to pick them up. Mi Nyu was disappointed to find that Tae Kyung wasn't in it. Only Manager Ma and Coordinator Wang. She took a seat in the back beside the older woman, while the two men sat in the middle two seats.

"Good moring, boys!" greeted Manager Ma, from the front seat. "We have a full day planned. Jeremy, we'll drop you off at the radio station. Remember to do your best in promoting A. 's mini album. Should they switch the subject towards the gossip, just dismiss it. Do your best. Ah! Shin Woo, you'll have the Recording Studio A for three hours. Tae Kyung will have it next. Lastly, Mi Nam, you'll record "Keeping Me Forever" with Daisy, first, then practice the routine for "Mended Souls" when done."

Mi Nyu leaned closer to Coordinator Wang during the drive and whispered, "Is Daisy a nice person?"

Wang nodded. "I've worked with her many times. She is a sweet girl. A little boyish if you ask me, though. Still, she's great to work with. I imagine you'll get along well," she replied.

Everyone wished Jeremy good luck when he got out at the station. He waved until they were out of sight. With a spring in his step, Jeremy went inside and amiably greeted the staff.

At A&G Ent. Headquarters, the last group got out. Shin Woo gently ruffled Mi Nyu's hair and said he'd meet her during lunch. Manager Ma and Coordinator Wang went with Mi Nyu to Recording Studio B to meet Daisy.

"Go Mi Nam!" greeted President Ahn. He left her side and slung his arm around Mi Nyu. "I would like you to meet your Sunbae, Daisy!"

Daisy waved at her. "Mannaseo bangapseumnida, Mi Nam. Lookin' forward to hearin' your voice," she said.

"Annyeong haseyo, Daisy-yang. I'm excited to work with you, too," replied Mi Nyu.

Daisy let out a short laugh. "You don't have t'be formal. I might have started my career earlier than you, but we're the same age. Let's be friends."

She inclined her head, saying, "First, let's get familiar with the lyrics. Then when we're ready, we'll start recording."

Mi Nyu felt more at ease. She accompanied Daisy at the round table. They sat beside each other and began to work. Regardless of this being her first time working with a professional, Mi Nyu did very well. Manager Ma looked on in anticipation. He was amazed by how well she and Daisy worked together. Mi Nyu behaved as if she'd been working in the industry for years. She and Daisy discussed how to sing at certain notes. They gave their own perspective on the lyrics. Showing their relation to the song and the emotion it conveyed.

It took time but about an hour later, they were ready to start recording.

Mi Nyu did as the producer instructed. Learning how to put on the headphones and how to stand at the microphone. She laughed at some of the jokes Daisy cracked about her first time in the studio. She told her about the time she stood to close to the mic and nearly took a bite out of it.

"It might be expensive equipment but it tastes awful. Stay clear of it, Mi Nam," she warned, making Mi Nyu chuckle.

Producer Kwon Choi Sung handled the equipment. He gave them the signal when the music began. At the starting point, Daisy began to sing. By the mid part of the first verse, Mi Nyu sang along with her. Their voices blended well. Mi Nyu did her best to evoke the pride and joy belonging to a in-love male.

The first two takes, Producer Kwon stopped Mi Nyu, because of her nerves could be heard in her voice. By the third take, she sang perfectly.

President Ahn had returned during the third take. He could barely contain his joy at what he heard. Both Mi Nyu and Daisy invested their hearts into the song. It was apparent in their body sways and hand gestures. Manager Ma couldn't believe how Mi Nyu managed to keep singing in a guised voice. It never cracked. She effortlessly sang like a male capable of many ranges.

If she is this good as a man, imagine how incredible she'd sound in her true voice. A&G would soar higher than ever before! he thought.

"Jackpot! You were wonderful!" exclaimed President Ahn as they stepped out the recording booth.

He lightly slapped his hands onto her shoulders saying in his broken English, "Go Mi Nam, you are amazing good! Wonderful!"

"Thank you, President Ahn," Mi Nyu replied in fluent English, to his joy.

Daisy nudged Manger Ma's arm, whispering, "What the heck are they saying?"

"Not sure, but it's got a happy atmosphere," he whispered back.

President Ahn turned to Daisy, asking, "What did I tell you? Isn't he talented? Did you enjoy working with him?"

"It was really fun," she agreed. "Mi Nam, if you keep this up, I'll have to fight to get you to do another song with me."

Mi Nyu bowed to her in thanks. "It'd be a pleasure to work with you again, Noona. I had a lot of fun. I just hope I can keep up with you in dancing."

Daisy gave her arm a playful slap. "Don't worry so much. Truth be told, I'm not that great of a dancer. The choreographer is pretty patient with me. He comes up with simple steps that gets me by. The back up dancers do the main work," she explained. "I'll meet you in the dance studio. I've got to finish recording "Mended Souls" next."

Manager Ma led Mi Nyu out the studio to the elevators. They rode it down to the second floor. All the way there, Manager Ma praised her. "You're doing so well. I cannot believe how far we've come," he whispered. "The real Mi Nam will be proud."

"Am I behaving accordingly?" she asked him.

Ma nodded his head. "You have a few tendacies to act too formal, but considering this is your first day, it's normal. Just keep up the good work. Ah! When we get to the studio, remember to show your respect to everyone there. Focus entirely on your given instructions. You shoud be fine."

Coordinator Wang met them just before they made it to the dance studio. She discreetly handed Mi Nyu a homemade draw-string bag. "Go to the bathroom and slip this into your boxers," she ordered.

"W-why?" Mi Nyu asked.

She rolled her eyes, saying, "You're a man. When a man does excessive movements, sometimes...you can see their...buldge. You need buldge to fit in better."

Embarrassed beyong belief, Mi Nyu went to the restroom. She slid down her boxers and placed the bag in between her pants. "These are bigger than the ones before. Good thing I'm wearing women's underwear, too," she muttered.

The dance studio was a large room. Three of it's walls had graffiti street art painted on them. The fourth wall was a large mirror. There were twelves dancers lounging in the room; six men and six women. Sitting in one of the folding chairs pushed against the wall was the choreographer, No Woo Hyun. He looked up from his paper work and greeted Mi Nam.

"Okay. Let's get started, people," he stood, getting everyone's attention. "I would like to formally introduce myself. I am No Woo Hyun from Star99 Ent. I will be the instructor for Daisy's up-in-coming MV, "Mended Souls". I understand A&G's A. 's maknae, Go Mi Nam is here?"

"N-ne! Annyeong haseyo! I am Go Mi Nam. Please treat me, kindly," Mi Nyu introduced herself, bowing to everyone in the room.

Woo Hyun clapped his hands together. "Okay. Now we begin. This is a simple routine but it still requires total concentration. Let's start!" he ordered, pressing play on the stereo. The room was filled with the instrumental version of "Mended Souls".

This was a true test for Mi Nyu. Her body was light. Dancing like a male felt painfully hard to her. The requirred stances felt awkward. So did the arm gestures and facial expressions. Not to mention the part where she would be partnered with a girl! By the time Woo Hyun called for a break, Mi Nyu's whole body ached. She limped towards the few chairs in the room and sat down.

Why can't I do it?! she mentally screamed. I thought singing and playing the piano would be enough. Why am I expected to do so much?! I can't dance! I don't understand the movements at all!

She vigorously scratched her head, in an effort to release her pent up frustration. It shouldn't be this hard! I used to do well when I danced with Soo Young. Oppa is counting on me. I can't make him look like a failure. I can't! I have to work hard. If I don't, he'll loose his chance. Manager Ma and Coordinator Wang could get fired. A. could suffer. Mother...I could fail our mother...Reverened Mother, give me strength. Father in Heaven, have mercy upoun me and guide me throughout this battle. I cannot afford to make any mistakes!

A hand wrapped around her wrist.

Mi Nyu body jerked in surprise. She looked up to see Jeremy standing over her.

"You'll go bald doing that," he told her.

She removed her hands from her head, sighing. "Meahnheyo," she murmured.

Jeremy took a seat beside her. He carefully eyed her, asking, "What's got you so upset?"

Mi Nyu wrung her hands together. "I can't grasp the routine. It's suppose to be simple but I keep messing up!" she replied.

He tilted his head to the side, making his blonde locks fall in his face a bit. "How long have you been practicing?" he asked.

"Over an hour."

Jeremy folded his arms across his chest. "To think that's what got you so down."

"I can't help it!" she exclaimed, causing his eyes to widened.

"That's right! You know English, too. Whoa. Been a long time since I've talked in English outside my network or friends and family. President Ahn's need some work. But anyway-you've only been at it for a short time. To a normal person, yeah, over an hour is a long time. In the industry, it's not. The goal isn't just to get the choreography engraved in your mind. It's to make it so that your body's become accustomed to it. Make it as natural as breathing! Don't overthink each step. Have some fun with it. Put a piece of yourself in it. If you can do that, then you've accomplished your goal. "

Mi Nyu listened closely to his advice. Looking down at her feet, she inhaled a deep breath and exhaled it. "You're right," she said, switching back to Korean. "I'll do it. I'll do my absolute best."

She jumped out of her seat and made her way back to the floor. Turning back around she flashed Jeremy a huge smile. "Thank you, Jeremy!" she exclaimed, happily.

Jeremy clutched his stomach. Why do I feel this way? Did I eat too much cereal? Snap out of it! Go Mi Nam'sa boy...all I did was help out a member. I don't like him or any-"

"Yah!" he yelled when Daisy touched his shoulder.

She stared at him questionably. Jeremy gave an awkward laugh, saying, "I-I just saw the Conjuring. Uh...Bye!" He quickly ran out the studio.

That guy needs to lay off the sweets, thought Daisy.

"Alright people! Let's try again. Daisy, watch and memorize," instructed Woo Hyun.

Mi Nyu stood between the two leads in the front row. She stared at her reflection in the mirror. I am borrowing my brother's image. Therefore, I should abandon the mindset of Go Mi Nyu. To become Go Mi Nam,I must envision and remember all I've learned to get this far. Those times he saved up to buy the latest albums. Staring at the television or monitor in order to learn the latest dances. Going out into the streets to perform for extra money. Go Mi Nam lived to be an idol. And now...I am that idol. I will not fail! she mentally vowed.

This session was different from earlier. The atmosphere had changed. As if she were literally reborn, Mi Nyu dove into the routine. Her mind, body and heart absorbed the movements. Whatever mistakes were made, they were forgotten, because everyone believed in her determination.

"Alright! That's enough for today. We'll come back tomorrow," said Woo Hyun.

Mi Nyu worked extremely hard. The other dancers praised her for doing so. Woo Hyun gave her a few pointers in order to improve her timing. She bowed in thanks, taking care to memorize all he told her.

Wiping the sweat from her brow, she went to sit beside Manager Ma. He handed her a bottle of water, saying, "At this rate, you'll learn the dance in no time! It's so amazing that you've never been discovered before." He leaned closer to her and whispered, "Young people with your type of talent are more than welcomed in the industry. Haven't you ever considered becoming an idol like you brother?"

She shook her head. "To be honest, being a celebrity frightened me. I always thought I wasn't suited to be among so many spellbinding people. They seemed so out of reach. But now...now I feel differently about it. The work is grueling. And there is some superficiality. But knowing that in the end...so many people benefit from it...it's awarding. And kind of fun. I can see why my brother loves it," she whispered back.

Ma nodded his head. They looked out at the others. "Then...when this is over...what will you do?" he asked.

Mi Nyu folded her hands on top of her lap. She couldn't think of an answer for him. Not just yet. "When the time comes...I'm sure I'll know then," she replied.

Shin Woo was a little worried. Mi Nam hadn't met with him for lunch. He wanted to check on her but couldn't leave until he finished the repackaged track for "Generations". Jeremy had come to visit him. He boasted about being able to pass on advice to a maknae. His pride was as clear as day.

"It felt nostalgic...conversing with someone in English. No offense to you, Hyung. It just made me happy," he admitted.

"Then you accept Go Mi Nam?" Shin Woo asked.

Jeremy crossed his arms, sinking deeper into his chair. "I won't accept him entirely until Tae Kyung gives the okay. B-besides...I...I mean...h-he...ARRRGH! I'll just wait for Tae Kyung!" he yelled.

At that moment, Tae Kyung entered the headquarters. For the first time ever in his career, he was late for work. He sought out President Ahn. It was time that he had a one-on-one discussion with him. He took an elevator to the top floor in hopes of seeing him. On the third floor, a sweaty Daisy entered.

"Anyoung," she greeted him.

Tae Kyung nodded in recognition of her. Folding his arms across his chest, he asked, "You've finished recording your songs?"

"Yep. That Go Mi Nam is talented. I know you're going to have a blast composing for a voice like his," she replied.

He rolled his eyes, saying, "Assuming he stays."

"You mean those anti-fans? Psh. It won't take him long to win them over. By the time my album hits the digital stores, along with the MV, his charm will blind them. Something about him...even Choreographer felt excited to work with him. He described him as being an absolute lump of clay. With patience and guidance, he could be molded into a high caliber artist. I imagine that even you would like to work with him."

He didn't reply.

Daisy rolled her eyes, saying, "Oppa. When will you learn that you are not the pinnacle of excellence. Come down from your pedestal and you'll be much happier. Besides...it might help you widen your musical perspective."

Tae Kyung clicked his tongue, shaking his head. He stepped off the elevator once it reached the fourth floor and said in a sarcastic tone, "Kamsahamnida. I feel rejuvenated from your wisdom."

He walked down the hall leading to Manager Ma's personal office. He grimaced when he saw the photo of the "new" A. hanging on the wall beside his door. Looking at Go Mi Nam, he refused to admit that he did a splendid job during the photoshoot. He chose to believe that it was the help of photoshop that made him look so professional.

"He'll be gone soon," he muttered under his breath.

Inside the office sat President Ahn and that tabloid journalist, Kim Young Woo. Tae Kyung grimaced at the sight of the short, spectacled man. He wanted to meet with President Ahn alone. Not in the company of that worm.

"Annyeong-hasumnikka," greeted Kim.

Tae Kyung acknowledged him with a silent incline of his head. Facing President Ahn, he said, "Sir, if you are free, could we speak in private."

President Ahn plastered on a wide smile.

"In a moment, Hwang Tae Kyung. Kim-ssi has taken time out of his busy day to do a brief interview with A. ! He wants to see the four of you behind the scenes," he explained to him.

In other words, you invited him here to do damage control, Tae Kyung thought.

"I would like to meet with Go Mi Nam first," stated Kim. "Fans are most...curious...about your new maknae."

President Ahn agreed wholeheartedly. Afterall, the group could not afford to be in any type of negative scandal. He escorted Kim to the elevator, after quickly whispering to Tae Kyung that they would talk later.

To say he was displeased would be an understatement.

Tae Kyung wore a grimace, watching the two leave. He sighed softly. With nothing else to do, he decided he'd visit Shin Woo in the recording studio.

He decided to use the stairs since waiting for the elevator would take too long.

Once on the third floor, he was about to turn the corner that led to the corridor which Recording Studio A was. He stopped when he saw Coordinator Wang and Mi Nam standing in front of the men's bathroom. They were talking quietly among themselves. Coordinator Wang seemed to be nervous. In her hand was a bright rubber ball. She kept waving it in Mi Nam's face.

"What are they doing?" he murmured to himself.

He crept closer to them; sticking close to the walls and hiding behing the large indoor plant.

"You have to be more careful! Even if no one's in the room with you, you have to make sure these don't fall out!" Wang hissed.

Mi Nam nodded. "I know. I'm sorry. The knot to the bag loosened because of me dancing. I guess the more exertion I use, the more insecure the bag becomes. We'll have to make a better one for tomorrow," he whispered.

Wang sighed, nodding her head in agreement.

"I'll help you put it back on," she whispered to him. Despite his protests, Wang pulled him inside the men's room, saying, "No one will see us! The boys are all showering in the locker room. It'll only take a second to fix."

Tae Kyung gaped at what he just witnessed. He clapped his hand over his mouth, thinking, 'A second to fix it?! What kind of relationship are they in? What are they doing?!' He scowled, moving from his hiding place and marching towards the bathroom. 'That shameless bastard! And with Coordinator Wang! Is he trying to ruin A. ?!'

Quietly entering the restroom, he could hear the two faint whispering. He followed the sound of their voices to the last large stall and kicked it open yelling, "Go Mi Nam, you perverted bast-?!"

Tae Kyung was frozen.

So were Go Mi Nam and Coordinator Wang.

His eyes landed on the two in a very awkward condition.

There stood Go Mi Nam. His pants were down. So were his boxers. His hands held up the ends to his sweatshirt, just above his navel. Coordinator Wang was sitting on the close lidded toilet, angled near him. Her right hand was holding onto a small, oddly shaped sack and his lowered boxers. In her left hand was a safety pin.

Yet, that wasn't what truely grasped Tae Kyung's attention.

It was the sight of pure white women's panties.

Panties that were being worn by Go Mi Nam.

Panties that clung to his form.

A form without any buldge.

A form belong to a-

"Go Mi Nam...you're...y-you're...a...woman?" he stuttered.
