Author's Note: I am not actually awful, even if I'm awful at updating. But yay, here it is! And pretty soon after, too! I'm hoping to get a prompt in soon, but I have an idea for another chapter in my head already, so I guess I'll see whichever writes itself first. Until then!
Enjoy!
Air Bender Girl
Despite the fact that they're the furthest in age, in many ways, the sibling Jinora is closest to is probably Rohan. Sure, there are things she talks about only with Ikki, who at age 12 still has yet to master the art of breathing and talking at the same time. And you know what? Sometimes she just needs to be silly with Meelo. Because even though she's 15 years old and a fully-fledged airbender, there are times when Jinora just wants to play senseless games or make fart noises with her armpit. And Meelo is always willing to help his eldest sister out when such a need arises.
But of the four, Rohan is the one most like Jinora. At five years old, he hasn't quite lost all of his baby fat. He's very quiet, like she is, but in a very different way. Jinora is quiet in a bookish, inquisitive sort of way. Rohan is quiet in a much shyer way. But that doesn't stop him from climbing into her lap one stormy night when Jinora is curled up in one of the comfy library chairs, studying an advanced airbending scroll.
"Jinowa," he says around the thumb in his mouth "I'm scawed."
"Rohan, you can't suck your thumb. It's bad for your teeth." Jinora says soothingly. She puts down her scroll and gently pulls the thumb out of his mouth, putting her arms around him. "Why are you scared, Rohan?"
"The thundew is scawy, Jinowa." He says, looking up at her with tear-filled eyes. "I don't wike it."
"Thunder can't hurt you, Rohan. I know it's loud and scary, but it's just a noise."
"I don't wike it Jinowa. Make it go away!" Jinora can't help it. Her heart breaks for her baby brother as he buries his face into her shirt, and she doesn't even mind that he's probably getting snot and tears all over it.
Once upon a not-so-long time ago, it was Jinora who scampered into her parent's bed whenever thunder struck. She knew how scary it could be.
"How about if I read to you until the scary thunder goes away?" she asks. Rohan loves stories every bit as much as she did when she was his age, except that he prefers to be read too, whereas Jinora has always preferred to do the reading.
"Okay." Rohan says timidly, sniffling a little bit as he snuggles deeper into her lap.
"What story would you like to hear?" Jinora asks.
"You choose." Rohan replies. Jinora smiles. She has the perfect story in mind.
"Once upon a time, in a land far far away, there was a boy trapped in an iceberg..."
It was Pema, who found them, hours later, having been woken by the storm and wanting to check on Rohan. The two of them were curled up together, Rohan with his thumb in his mouth, and Jinora looking like she was going to have a crick in her neck when she woke up.
Pema debated whether or not to get them a blanket, but decided t would be warm enough tonight that they wouldn't really need one, even with the storm raging outside. She smiled, just drinking in the sight. Then she slipped off to tell her husband that she loved him.
Author's Note: I hope you enjoyed. Special thanks to TheWonderfulShoe- you truly live up to your name. Also, on an unrelated side note: I have not yet seen LoK season three or four. I hated two so much I couldn't stand to watch the rest until it was all out. I'll get around to it sometime in the near-ish future, but until then, please don't be surprised if some of the newer characters don't show up- that's why. (Also, please beware of spoiling!)
Don't forget to review, and stay awesome!
