Penelope's Quest for a Quill

She had just been finishing up on the ancestry of Merlin when she dipped her quill into her ink bottle. She started a new paragraph, but as soon as her quill hit the parchment, the end snapped off loudly, leaving her with a stunted quill and nothing to write with. She had been praying this one would last; she was supposed to go out tomorrow, on the Hogsmeade trip, to find some more.

She asked Michael Corner, who was playing chess with someone she vaguely recognized. "Do you have a quill I can borrow?" asked Penelope.
He shook his head. "Someone's borrowing my set. Sorry, there," he said, and turned his head back to the game.

Penelope asked Ernie, who sat talking loudly with his friends.

"No, sorry about that," he shrugged. "I don't have one. Upstairs, I have this nice peacock one my ma got me, it's rare, it is -"

He continued boasting to his friends and she walked way, rolling her eyes.

She approached Luna Lovegood. "Do you have a quill I can borrow, just for the time being?" Penelope asked, watching as the girl's light gaze drifted to her.

"Are you missing one?" Luna Lovegood.

"No, I'm just all out."

"There's one right there," replied Luna, before drifting off. She had pointed to one, dropped at the base of Ravenclaw's statue, and Penelope picked it up and smiled.

She continued to write.
