She could see it now, for once in Her existence Her future was clear. Wheatley made it that way. Suddenly She didn't care about the scientists, or testing (well, not AS much). She just cared that Wheatley promised he was gonna be there, and She knew he wouldn't break that promise. But- if he did…
She looked down at him. Wheatley was sleeping, but looking at him She felt more secure. She knew he couldn't break his promise. Everything, for once, was going to go well for Her. For once Her existence could be enjoyable.
For once She was happy.
Wheatley was right, being a little bit human was amazing.
Wheatley dreamed. It started out as a pleasant dream- he just saw him and GLaDOS happily together. They were laughing. But soon the happy air was gone, GLaDOS disappeared, and all went dark. Well, not all dark. There were lights- no, stars. He was- in a spaceship? And GLaDOs was there, but something was wrong. Not the fact that She was in an avatar- one that looked shockingly like Caroline- but something else, something less noticeable.
The way She was looking at him-it was how Chell looked at him now. A look of pure hate.
"GLaDOS?"
"GLaDOS?"
"Wheatley?"
She looked back down, expecting to see him looking back up. But he was still asleep. He was still dreaming- and dreaming about Her.
She wondered what he was dreaming about
"You."
The glare hardened, as if the very sound of his voice sent shivers of hate running down Her spine.
"Yes, uh, me. Wheatley. Hi…"
He looked around and realized She had him cornered against the airlock. He also noticed that She had strapped Herself into the ship while he wasn't
"Uh.. exactly what are you doing here?"
"Getting my revenge."
"Ah, revenge. Et tu Brutes and all-wait..Why on me?"
"You really are a moron…don't you remember?"
"Uh…no?"
"Well I'll make this understandable for someone of your...intellect. You made the promise you made go bye-bye," she reached over for a control panel and put her hand over a switch, "So I'm gonna make you go bye-bye. Bye-bye!"
"Wai-"
He didn't understand-what had he done? He wanted to ask Her, but before he could even say 'wait' She had activated the switch and he was being sucked into space.
"Wait! GLaDOS!"
He was thrashing, murmuring to himself. She assumed this meant he was having a nightmare and wanted to wake him, but also worried if he didn't sleep enough he wouldn't be ready for Chell, so She let him be. But soon enough he awoke with a small scream.
"GLaDOS!"
"Yes?"
He looked up at her and calmed down.
"N-nothing. Just a bad dream."
"Alright. If you're sure you're ok"
"I'm fine…anyways, what chamber is Chell on?"
"One before the one with the exit," she turned on the monitor to show Chell, who had just entered the aforementioned test chamber.
"Oh man, I have to get going," he jumped up , straightened out his clothes and hair as best as possible, and headed to the door.
Something was off with him. Whatever he had dreamed about, it had made him edgy, nervous, and a little untrusting. It was as if She had done something horrible in the dream.
Pull yourself together Wheatley!
It was just a dream, after all. Dreams didn't happen in real life, monsters in movies were just people in costumes, and zombies only existed in stories. Those were just facts. Whatever he dreamed, no matter how bad, was just a dream. Maybe he could even learn from it.
After all, in the dream he'd broken his promise, so he'd make sure never to break a promise again. If he did that, then there was no way the dream would ever come true. It ensured his safety really. Probably his best plan ever, and it was so simple.
The promises he had on the table was saving Chell and making sure GLaDOS wasn't shut down. He was just about to go and accomplish the first, so he should focus on that. How would he save Chell? It wasn't like she was just gonna follow him; their last meeting showed how she felt about that. He would simply have to force her, even carry her if necessary, anything to make sure he gets her up those stairs and back to her father safely.
Now was the time, so he started to leave.
One more test chamber. One more stupid pointless chamber until she could get out of here and go home. A little bit more and she could say goodbye to this hell hole forever, until she could make sure that robot never saw another day.
The test chamber wasn't even hard- simple propulsion and elevation. She'd be done in about two minutes, done of aperture science forever.
And the best part; he'd never stop her. He was dead buy now- or was going to die very soon by the hands of his fellow scientists. She would ensure that.
The thought nearly put a spring in her step
"Wheatley- wait"
"Yeah?"
He turned around curious. Maybe She noticed he was acting off, or maybe She just wanted to wish him luck. It turned out to be both.
"I just wanted to say- good luck with her. I trust you, maybe more than you trust yourself."
"Thanks"
"one more thing…whatever happens, I just want you to know I'm here for you."
He smiled
"Same goes for me. I have your back. Well, your metallic back-like structure. Not sure if you even have a back"
GLaDOS laughed. It was robotic, but it sounded genuine, like she actually found him amusing, and that of course made him grin. Wheatley always enjoyed being found funny, and it was especially nice to be found funny by Her.
"Well…I should go, uh, save Chell. Promises to keep and such"
"See you soon"
"Oh course. Later, alligator," he waved and left, walking out to a catwalk that would lead him to the chamber. He was so close, he couldn't help but think how quickly this was all ending. It almost seemed too easy- like he was getting too happy an ending.
But it didn't worry him long. Wheatley had a job to do, and focusing his brain on more than one thing tended to not work so well, so he shook off the feeling and focused on Chell. After all, he had one angry damsel to valiantly rescue. Except this time the prince ended up with the seemingly evil but actually nice Queen.
And they would all live happily ever after. Hopefully.
AN: so I was planning a sequel but I decided to just combine it with this into one big story. Its gonna be amazing
