In the beginning, it was just a bit of fun. Rattling the chains, picking the locks of the cages, making a stand. Jesus had such wonderful ideas, ways to take back some power – but this. This is going too far. This is too much.

This isn't rattling chains anymore; it's become the beginnings of an insurrection, and that, that is just too dangerous. That will see them all dead. Worse, that will see him dead, the mouthpiece of the rebellion.

But no matter how he says it, no one is listening to Judas. They are all too wild, too caught up, too young and too brave. And Jesus… he's just as caught, blaspheming. All his good ideas, all the rightness of the cause, it is lost inside the most proud of all claims, and how… where is the man Judas chose to follow? Where is the man he – the man he –

He closes his eyes, face tilted towards the sunlight, and tries to ignore the laughter, the chatter, the blasphemy. They are too loud, too many, and it will go so wrong. All the joy has soured.

He chose to follow Jesus. Not what Jesus has become. But what can he possibly do now?
