Chapter 9
"Kuroko hasn't been answering replying to any of my texts or emails." Ogiwara pouted as he stared at the discarded cell phone on top of his drawer. "He's probably busy in Teiko and all but...Hm…It's already been a month so maybe he's all cozy there."
He closed his eyes for a little while and relaxed into the sanctuary of his bed while still thinking of his old neighborhood friend. It was purely coincidental that he had met the boy in the basketball court all those years ago and he was happy he did.
Back then, Kuroko was a quiet boy who kept to himself and he probably was still like that until now. Ogiwara sometimes wondered if he was perhaps the first long term friend of Kuroko. The boy's presence was just too…..unnoticeable at times. Even he sometimes missed Kuroko.
The first year rubbed his cheek out of habit, just in case a grain of rice happened to find its way on him again. He tended to be messy while eating after all.
He sighed sadly. Honestly, what's taking Kuroko so long to reply? Did something bad happen to him? Maybe he should check tomorrow after school. A four hour trip to Tokyo is nothing for him if Kuroko was in trouble –
"Shige!" An elderly female voice called out from the dining room downstairs. "It's dinnertime! Please wear your house clothes before you come down! And put your dirty clothes in the laundry area while you're at it."
"Yes, mom!" He replied as he picked up his messy school clothes from the ground (he already changed just a few minutes ago) before he rushed out of the room. The scent of his mother's cooking made his formerly exhausted body move more energetically. He took all his worried thoughts about Kuroko and hid them in the back of his mind.
"Don't run down the stairs!"
"Yes, mom! Sorry, mom!"
While the family ate downstairs, Ogiwara's cell phone rang in his room.
CHIIIIING~~~~
The device blinked a few times, showing Kuroko's name on top. In his message:
Ogiwara-kun, I apologize for the lack of responses for the past month. I've been busy.
I'm fine. Things have been going well.
You got into the basketball team? Congrats. I as well.
I hope we'll see each other soon.
Tetsuya Kuroko
It would be later that night that the Ogiwara couple would hear their son shout in joy once he came into his room.
It wasn't a really known fact but the tallest first year of Teiko Middle had 3 older brothers and 1 older sister.
Yes, he was the baby of the family.
"Atsushi!" A tall violet haired girl screeched as she came down the stairs with a very furious expression. "Did you take my marshmallows?!" She ran to the family room where she saw the youngest of the family playing videogames with the eldest son.
"I didn't take it, I'm eating it." The youngest Murasakibara replied as he controlled his character on the screen to do a jump that shouldn't be humanly possible. It was a video game. Reality is ignored once one immerses himself in the game. "Kuro-nii's the one who took it from the pantry."
The eldest, with lavender hair, turned towards the fuming sister with a sheepish grin. He tried to smile his uneasiness off. "Sorry sis, but we still have some so….." The college senior reached for the plastic bag, only to see that it was already empty. He turned to his fellow video game player with an exasperated expression. "I thought you said that you weren't going to finish it!"
"That what you thought I said." Was all that was replied.
While the two brothers argued, the only daughter of the Murasakibaras pulled the plug of the TV out of the outlet with a terrifying expression on her face. Dark aura was seeping out of her very being.
"HEY! We haven't saved the game yet!"
"Do you think I care?" She snapped as she rolled up her sleeves. "You both are soooo going to get it!" As the girl pounced on Atsushi and Kurotsuchi, identical twins came walking into the room. One with an amused expression the other with a permanent frown on his face.
"Who pissed of our favorite Imouto this time?" The first twin asked in between chuckles.
"Dunno Shirochi. Both of them are the ones who get on her nerves the most." The other replied with disdain. "Can't they be quieter? We've got quizzes to study for."
"No they cannot, Renshi. It's not in their genes to not fight." The twins took a seat on the empty couch (since the three other siblings were now quarreling on the wooden floor) and watched the scene. They had no plans on breaking them up since Lenashi would probably rip their hearts out and feed it back to them if they tried.
"Excuse me, sir." Kuroko spoke out to one of the librarians who was putting books on the lower shelf. Surprisingly, the man immediately took notice of his presence and turned to look at him.
"Do you need help with something?" The raven haired adult asked kindly as he looked down at the shorter male. The man's long bangs covered the top half of his face.
Kuroko nodded. "Yes sir. Do you happen to know who the author of this book is?" The bluenette asked, showing the man the book, Manipulation of the gaze.
"Strange…." The pale man muttered as he checked the book. He skimmed through the pages. "Sorry, I don't. Where did you get this book? I've never seen it in the store before and I've been working here for four years already."
The middle schooler's eyes widened by a millimeter. "Are you sure of that? This book might've been from the new stocks, sir."
"I don't think so. I'm sure I would've seen it." The man replied as he grabbed the book from the student and took a close look at it. "I'm in charge of checking the new stocks every 2 weeks after all. Someone must've inserted the book into the shelves for some reason."
"That can't be. I bought this yesterday." Kuroko said, taking the receipt out of his pocket and showed it to the man.
"Oh my….." The elder stood up and took both the receipt and the book. "I'll take this to the cashier and I'll get your money back. You can keep the book though."
"Eh?"
"I can't have this store taking money from kids when the book they're selling isn't even registered." The man reasoned as he turned around and walked off. "I'll check the computer for the book but I'm very certain that this isn't on the list. I apologize for the trouble, young man."
"…." Kuroko could only stare in shock as the man walked off to talk with the woman at the register. "…EH?"
Eloquent as ever.
"I want my marshmallows by the time I get home on Thursday so you have 3 days to get it! That's more than enough time!"
If Murasakibara Atsushi was obsessed with food in general, his older siblings were very interested in just one type of food in particular.
The eldest absolutely adored spicy chocolate. He couldn't last a day without it.
The twins both liked salted squid. Like Atsushi, they had secret stashes hidden all over the house.
And if it wasn't obvious enough, his sister's favorite food was marshmallows.
Which was the exact reason as to why he found himself actually outside of the house after a school day. The tall student could be doing something more productive like eating his junk food (it was productive to him!) but since he didn't want to banned from his stash of sweets at home, Murasakibara went food hunting.
His sister wanted a specific brand of Marshmallows. Super Moe Marshmallows.
It shouldn't be too hard she said. They sell it everywhere in the malls nearby she said.
If Lenashi was telling the truth then for some odd reason, fate seemed to be against the first year since every candy store, supermarket, and food booth that sold marshmallows ran out of that particular brand. It's been three hours since he started looking and yet he hadn't reached his goal at all.
As of now, the purple haired middle schooler was sitting on one of the chairs of an ice cream restaurant while eating his 6th strawberry Popsicle.
He was about to call it a day and go home but found two blank eyes staring at him when he was about to get up from his seat.
"Good afternoon, Murasakibara-kun." Kuroko greeted with a bow, the other couldn't help but flinch back in surprise before he greeted back.
"Hi, Kuro-chin~" The taller student patted the bluenette's hair fondly, earning a blank glance (it was probably supposed to be a glare).
"I was quite surprised to see you here." Kuroko said stoically, his face not showing any emotion at all.
Murasakibara tilted his head. "I had to buy some marshmallows for my nee-chan since (my brother and) I finished her favorite snack yesterday. She wants a particular brand but I can't seem to find it."
"Oh," Kuroko nodded in understanding, taking a seat beside the tall male. "Why don't you go to the Arcade? Today, most of the prizes are marshmallows since that's the theme for the day. Even the stuff toys in the claw crane look like those soft sweets."
"Really?" Purple eyes brightened with renewed vigor.
"Yes. I even won this tasty treat." The shorter male pulled out a big empty bag of Super Moe Marshmallows. "If I had known that you were here, I would've shared some with you. Sorry, Murasakibara-kun."
Murasakibara stared at Kuroko blankly for a little while before enveloping the poor boy into a bone crushing hug.
"Kuro-chin you just saved my life."
"….Your life or your stomach?"
"Is there a difference?"
"Seijuro," The Akashi heir looked up from the end of the table. "You've become more...independent since the start of your Junior High."
The red head closed his eyes for a few moments before opening them to face the man. "It is not to your liking?"
"I've been told that you had the driver stop dropping you off and fetching you from school." He said sternly with a very intimidating look on his face. "What are you trying to pull off?"
"Nothing at all, father." Akashi replied with a straight face. "I simply do not wish to encounter any problems with my peers for they will question me unnecessarily about it."
"Must you make things harder for yourself?" His father asked with a disappointed tone.
"I apologize but I do not understand what you are trying to say." The first year replied, his voice was close to cracking and sounding like an enraged 5 year old. He took a silent breath before he continued in a more serene tone, "I've properly distributed my abilities among activities that will show my excellence in all areas. I can very well say that I am excelling in my extra-curricular, academic and social endeavors."
"Who are these friends of yours?"
Akashi paused for a few moments to stare at his father before he finally answered, "Aomine Daiki, Momoi Satsuki, Midorima Shintarou, Murasakibara Atsushi, Kise Ryouta and Kuroko Tetsuya."
The other's eyes showed some signs of recognition when he heard the names.
"Momoi Satsuki is just a peer." He had to make that clear to his father before the man decided to interrogate him even further.
"We have a very platonic relationship." The red head added as reached for his glass of water. "There is no need to worry."
"Hn." Was the only reply he got.
And that was just how the rest of Akashi's afternoon went.
"Achoo!" A certain pinkette sneezed, covering her mouth with a handkerchief immediately.
'Someone must be talking about me.' The girl thought as she placed the piece of cloth down and turned her attention back to cooking.
"Let's see~!" Momoi cooed as she placed all the ingredients on her kitchen table. Her pink eyes sparkled brightly.
"Alright, Tetsu-kun likes vanilla so let's put it in the pot!" She put the melted vanilla into the boiling hot pot of water. "Some sugar and candies! Yes! Mu-kun likes candies. Good thing I bought all these marshmallows!" She took out multiple bags of Super Moe Marshmallows and stuffed them all into the pot. Miraculously, it all fit.
The pinkette started crushing all the marshmallows with a wooden spoon while inside the heating pot. Steam rose out. "Now some tofu!" She turned the stove off then shoved uncooked tofu into the container. She put on some gloves and carried it out.
"This will make the perfect seasoning for Dai-chan's teriyaki burgers tomorrow! He can even share it with the others. I'll add some red beans while I'm at it too!"
And with that, she continued making her (poisonous) lunch bento for her childhood friend and her middle school classmates.
They'll absolutely love it! She was sure of it!

"You'll easily earn tickets if you play this game." Kuroko said as he pointed at the machine with a basketball hoop. "You'll need to get 250 tickets to get those Marshmallows you want. The rules are pretty simple in this game. One shot is equal to one point and it becomes two points when the basketball hoop starts to move. For every three points you get one ticket so do your best. You don't need to spend all your time playing this game though. We can move to another one after this."
"It's alright, Kuro-chin~" Murasakibara said, walking past his classmate. "I'll get all those tickets in one go."
Kuroko nodded and was sure that his classmate would be done with it in less than 10 minutes. "Do your best."
The purple haired first year swiped the card and saw the lights brighten on the machine. The basket went up and five basketballs fell down.
"You have 5 minutes to score." A mechanical voice spoke out from the lit up machine. Murasakibara simply took one of the balls as it continued to speak. "Your game will start in 3….2….1…."
Once the bell rung, the freshman started shooting the balls with ease. Honestly, defense was his thing in the game but this was piece of cake since there wasn't any player that was trying to block him.
Not that they ever succeeded, mind you.
"Look at the boy!" A young woman commented with distaste to her gossiping friend as they passed by an open restaurant that was known for its good food and its specialty, meat.
In the store was one of the regulars the young women were rudely pointing at, Nebuya. He often went there after training whenever his mother wasn't home yet to cook her delicious meat. After all, the food here was almost as good as hers. The second year was currently gorging on all the yummy grub as if there was no tomorrow. In one hand held a large chicken leg and in the other was a large knife. There were sauces and gravy all over his mouth.
"Are you going to order anything more, Nebuya-kun?" The waitress asked as she placed a few table napkins and tissues on the table and smiled fondly at the hungry boy. He's been going to this particular store for a long time so all the employees knew him.
"No, this is enough." Nebuya grinned as he raised the chicken leg a little. "The tournament is still a long time from now so training's all about conditioning and stamina building for now."
"Then good luck you muscle gorilla! Work hard and win!" She smiled and patted the boy before she walked away to another customer.
As he continued to eat, his eyes caught a familiar figure who was passing by. Nebuya dropped the chicken leg and knife in surprise before standing up and waving his arms around.
"OOOI, Mibuchi!" He yelled out with food spitting out of his mouth. The people surrounding him were used to his outbursts so they just sighed at his lack of mannerisms and continued on with what they were doing. "What the heck are you doing here in Tokyo?! I thought you were still in Kyoto!"
The tall boy who he was referring to tried to walk away and pretend he didn't know the muscular second year but was suddenly stopped when an arm swung around his shoulders.
"Reo-nee!" A familiar orange haired bundle of energy greeted cheerfully. "Been a while no? I can't believe I saw you and Nebuya here! HEY NEBUYA!" Hayama gave an enthusiastic grin. The buff second year waved back at the energetic orange haired brat.
"Please don't be too loud, you're getting a lot of unwanted attention." Mibuchi said as he pulled the arm off of his being and fixed himself. "You both are such loud and ill mannered idiots with all your screaming and eating habits."
"OI, I heard you!" Nebuya yelled out from his seat whilst chewing on his food.
Hayama smiled his usual creepy smile and dragged the poor sophomore over to Nebuya's table. Though the three were from different teams, they were quite known around because of their talents which lead them to meeting one another sometime during the start of their Junior High last year.
"I think I'll call the other 2 'generals' to come over!" The shortest of the three said excitedly as he brought out his cell phone. "It would be really fun if they were here with us."
Mibuchi frowned. "I wouldn't mind having Kiyoshi around but Hanamiya? No, certainly not! And how on earth did you get their numbers?" Hayama smiled in a way that looked more like a smirk and didn't answer.
"That Hanamiya dude's not that bad." Nebuya burped loudly, earning a smack on the head from the slightly messy haired teen. "When he's not playing like a total jerk anyway. He's got talent and brains."
Hayama snorted in amusement. "If he didn't, he wouldn't be called a 'General'."
"Pfff… General? Honestly, what are up with people and these names they come up for us kids?" Mibuchi sighed as he picked up a clean tissue to wipe off the scatted gravy on the table.
"But it sounds pretty epic, doesn't it? 'The Generals of Basketball'!"
"It sounds pretty incomplete though." Nebuya cut in with a thoughtful expression. "It doesn't have that lasting effect you feel when you're intimidated. The title's got no intensity."
Mibuchi rolled his eyes carelessly. "What more can they add to it? It's a ridiculous nickname!"
"Nickname? What nickname are you three talking about?" A new voice questioned. The three companions looked up to see a familiar figure.
"KIYOSHI!" Hayama exclaimed excitedly as he hugged the smiling brunette.
"Long time no see." Mibuchi greeted lightly, shaking hands with the sophomore.
"Yo!" Nebuya fist bumped his fellow center in basketball.
"Hey guys! Imagine my surprise when I saw you three here." Kiyoshi commented after exchanging greetings. "I know Nebuya usually eats here but I didn't expect to see Mibuchi from Kyoto and Hayama from Kanagawa prefecture to be here as well. Glad to see that you're all doing well."
"Indeed. We were talking about you and Hanamiya just a few moments ago." Mibuchi said to the happy looking brunette. "I wouldn't be surprised if the latter appeared soon and joined us."
"I don't think he will." Kiyoshi replied. "He's got training right now from what I've been told. His captain's a slave driver."
"That's too bad!" Hayama sighed in disappointment at what he heard. "It would've been really cool to have all the Generals here right now!"
"You're actually using that nickname?" Kiyoshi asked in surprise. He pursed his lips a little. "I thought that was just a joke going around about us."
"Nah, they're actually calling us that." Nebuya grunted as he played with the bones of his food. Mibuchi glared at him while he did so. "I wouldn't be surprised if another group came up and the people gave them a nickname like ours."
"They would be really lucky if it didn't sound as serious as 'The Generals'." The brunette said as he waved his hand at a nearby waiter to ask for water. "Though I can't help but say that it sounds a bit...incomplete."
"Yeah! That's exactly what Nebuya said earlier!" Hayama chirped energetically. "I wonder if we'll get an even cooler nickname during the tournament. Hopefully it will sound more awesome! Or at least relaxed in some way. You guys don't seem to like the tension."
"I don't at all." Kiyoshi shook his head. "If it were possible, I'd avoid having a tense or serious name to hold. Maybe they'll forget about it after we have some fu~n at this coming tournament."
"I doubt that really." Mibuchi muttered quietly to himself. "I've got this foreboding feeling that basketball's going to get a lot more serious than ever this year."
"Sir... Please give back those tickets."
"Why?" Murasakibara inquired, staring in a very intimidating manner at the manager. "I won these fair and square."
"But sir, you destroyed the machine!" The older man pointed at the game he had been playing a while ago. The hoop fell out and the digital scoreboard was cracked open. Some parts were falling apart too.
"It's not my fault that it couldn't take my shots." The purple haired freshman muttered as steam started erupting from the pitiful machine. "I was simply shooting lay-ups and then that happened. It's not my fault."
"Sir…." The manager was starting to lose his temper and took the tickets out of the middle school student's hands with a glare.
The usually passive first year looked at his hands. The tickets were gone. If looks could kill, the manager would've died a very painful and torturous death in the hands of the youngest Murasakibara. The boy's knuckles started to crack in a rather daunting manner.
Fortunately for the manager who looked like he was going to faint, small pale hands grasped the giant's firmly. A monotonous voice spoke out, "It's alright Murasakibara-kun, let's go."
The purple haired student moved away his heavy gaze from the adult onto his blank faced classmate's figure. The bluenette stayed silent like the piercing look had no effect on him and simply held Murasakibara's hand.
After a few moment, the giant relaxed and allowed himself to be pulled along by Kuroko. The boy bowed politely to the manager before he moved away. When the two finally reached the food area inside the arcade, the sat down on the chairs offered.
"Murasakibara-kun must be really tense," Kuroko started, picking up a plastic bag filled with different flavored pocky boxes. He offered it to his classmate. "You can have it all. I won it while you were playing."
The basketball center's previously furious eyes quickly changed into bright sparkling orbs. He giddily accepted the it but squeezed Kuroko's soft cheeks in gratitude first. The shorter male couldn't help but roll his eyes at the antics of his friend.
It took less than 5 minutes for the sugar addict to finish his sweets.
"Kuro-chin, basketball games in an arcade are horrible," The giant commented as he put the last box of pocky into the plastic bag. "The real game isn't any better though."
"Oh?" Kuroko mumbled absentmindedly, staring at something. "What makes you say that?"
"I get angry a lot during a game." He stated with a bored expression. "There was a match in elementary where I was told to sit on the bench for the rest of the game because I scared the opponents and my own teammates."
The bluenette tilted his head. "I'm assuming that you usually play during a game?"
"Yep~" Now that Kuroko remembered, it was sometime during third year when this giant center started playing defense instead. "Sometimes I get bored though."
"Bored? Bored of what?" The vanilla milkshake addict ask the giant.
"Bored... of seeing those really passionate players who just give their all to a game even when they're loosing." The purple haired student drawled, his eyes twitching just thinking of it. "No, I don't think bored is the right word for it. I feel hatred for them."
"...I see." Kuroko nodded in understanding. "I suppose I can conclude from that statement of yours that you tend to find basketball boring."
"I only play because I'm good at it." The other nodded. The Kuroko before would've argued with the giant immediately and they would start verbally assaulting each other.
But he was not the same boy from before. Supposedly the maturer one now. At least, he should be anyway.
"We're different that way then. You would probably hate me because of that." Kuroko commented as he gazed at Murasakibara with his usual deadpanned expression that showed no emotion at all. "Honestly, I really enjoy the game."
His classmate was confused now. "Why? How can you like a game like that?"
"I'm not easily noticed." The bluenette bluntly said as tapped his fingers on the table. "But through this game, I've met many different kinds of people that I grew to respect differently. I also get to play as a team with you and the others."
"Knowing that you acknowledge me even if you tend to miss my presence is enough for me." Kuroko's expression had a small reminiscent smile on his face. "I'm happy with just that."
'I would be greatly terrified if you all let me go like that again.' The shorter of the two thought as he closed his eyes. 'But I can't really say its their fault... There I go again with these thoughts. I'm so pathetic.' The last sentence was accompanied with a dejected sigh.
When he opened his eyes, he found Murasakibara's face very close to his.
"You're weird." The first year said with a perplexed expression on his face. What was so puzzling about what he had just said?
"I could say the same for you." Kuroko retorted with a soft chuckle that wouldn't have been heard by the giant had he not been so close to the pale boy. As he continued to stare at his blank faced teammate, the bluenette checked his watch. "I suppose we can still stay for another 10 minutes to play some games to get those Marshmallows."
"Ah, I forgot about that!" Murasakibara grumbled childishly as he scratched his head. "How am I going to get 250 tickets in 10 minutes?"
Somehow, Kuroko's blank expression brightened. "I know a good game, Murasakibara-kun. Tell me, are you quick on your feet?"
"Eh~?" The giant raised his brow at the short boy. "Why?"
If Kuroko was the type to show emotions, he would be smugly grinning right now.
"Because we'll be playing a physically interactive game. Have you ever heard of Dance, Dance, Revolution?"
Shirogane, the head coach of Teiko Middle's Basketball Team, skimmed through the email he had just received from the organizers of this year's National Tournament.
"So this is the line-up…." He mused as he twirled his ball pen. "I'll have to get Nijimura-kun to find all those recorded tapes of this particular team and study their game. I have to make sure to have the members ready for anything after all."
Suddenly, his cell phone rung and he immediately opened it and saw that he had just received a text message from Sanada, the first string coach.
I have just been notified that Haizaki was caught again breaking multiple ground rules somewhere near the school. They've suspended him from playing for 2 weeks.
The man could only sigh in frustration.
And give the boy a good and long talk.
"That took too much of my energy, Kuro-chiiiin." Murasakibara remarked as he lazily dragged his feet to follow the shorter male to the cashier.
"But you got your bag of Marshmallows so I believe your hard work was worth it." Kuroko replied as he let his classmate pay the cashier. From experience, he knew that the man wouldn't notice him so he had asked his friend to give him the money instead.
"Kuro-chin looks happier." Murasakibara yawned as he and his companion walked out of the convenience store. He handed the boy his vanilla flavored Popsicle.
"What do you mean?" Kuroko stared with his blank eyes filled with a bit of confusion. He accepted the cold sweet from the other as he asked,"I look happier than what?"
The purple haired boy thought about it for a little while before answering, "…You look happier now than when I first met you."
"Really?" Kuroko wondered as he opened his cool treat. "What makes you say that?"
"You talk a lot for someone as quiet as you usually are." Murasakibara answered thoughtfully. "You don't seem like the type who talks too much. Even around friends."
"I suppose." The bluenette pondered about it for a little while. "It must because of everyone's influence on me."
"You mean there is something good in us that's making you happy?" Murasakibara asked in surprise. "You obviously didn't agree with my opinion earlier but you accepted it and didn't argue at all. Others got angry at me for it."
"They should see it from your point of view." Kuroko reasoned as he opened the Popsicle. "That's how you view the game. Not everyone is born with talent and each talent is different from the other. That goes for opinions as well. But if there comes a time when someone will fight you because of what you believe in, you have to give it your all to show that your beliefs are worth something to you and not something to laugh at."
"It's actually more complex than that but that's pretty much a summary of what I think. It's nothing important." The bluenette mumbled to himself before licking his treat.
"And besides, I like you very much Murasakibara-kun." He said absentmindedly. "How can I find a sport boring when I play with people I like?" He smiled lightly.
"..." The purple haired boy found himself unable to reply to his classmate and it seemed the other didn't mind. Instead, they walked home in silence. Enjoying each other's presence.
What a beautiful sight.
"You look very content, Atsushi." Kurotsuchi remarked as he poked his brother's cheek. "Is it because you saved your stash of candies from your scary nee-san or what?"
"Naaah~ I just realized something after finding those Marshmallows." Murasakibara said as he munched on his potato chips.
The eldest brother raised his brows and pinched the cheeks of his brother. "Really? What did you realize?"
"Nothing much. Just that I like basketball." Was the bored reply. The lavender haired man shrugged and walked out of the living room without any word. In the hallways, he met up with the twins.
Shirochi smirked mischievously as he leaped over and landed on his brother's back. "So do you actually believe our cute little brother?"
"I don't know what you're talking about~" Kurotsuchi smiled a bit as he playfully pushed the other off of him.
Renshi frowned. "He should know better than to lie to us. We've known since he was small."
"Was he ever small?" The two others replied in unison before laughing out loud. Even the usually frowning twin had his lips twitching upwards.
"I wonder who convinced our little baby to grow up a bit..." Shirochi wondered.
Shirochi dramatically sighed. "Have you no faith in Atsushi's ability to act like an adult? It happens doesn't it?"
"It does but in very rare occasions." Renshi cut in. "But it's a good change in him."
"Why do you say that?"
"I may not look it but I've been worried about his lack of desire to succeed in something he enjoys." The boy explained as they walked. It's been a while since he had talked a lot. "But I suppose I can stop worrying now."
"I think he's just been using the word 'hate' too casually. If he keeps that up, he might hurt someone in the future."
Practice starts 30 minutes earlier for all regulars tomorrow. The Saturday training will last from 1:00 pm to 6:30 from now on.
It's tournament season so you all better man up and ready your sissy asses for hell.
Those who don't attend or are late will have a date with my fist and a training regimen that's two times harder than the original.

End of Chapter 9
OMAKE
While the four generals were talking to one another...
"Achoo!" Hanamiya sneezed, breaking his concentration. Coincidentally, it was at that very moment when a basketball hit him on the face. The poor sophomore fell down from the impact.
"Oi, you alright?" Imayoshi asked as he poked the motionless body of his Point Guard. "If you want to sleep, do it after practice."
There was no response. The messy haired captain huffed in annoyance.
"Someone hand me a bat from the baseball club please."
"Captain, that's for hitting a ball not for waking people up!"
AN: I'm officially back. I'll be updating more often now but it won't be that long so beware of more cliffhangers in the future.
Now I have a request from all of you that I need help on.
The line up of Nationals :| I believe that after that will be summer then the Winter Cup for Middle School but I'll think about that some other time.
From what I was able to research on, these are the games that don't have a particular date so I don't know what year these schools fought with Teiko:
Shoei (Kiyoshi's school), School-that-I-haven't-named-yet (Takao's school), Tsugawa's school (the guy who gave Kise a hard time) and maybe some others I forgot to mention.
First year doesn't have much games that were shown so I'm on my own on this one.
What year would you like Teiko to encounter any of the schools mentioned above? Did I miss anyone important?
Would you like them to encounter one or two of the Generals already or just let them study each other's moves for the meantime?
When would you like Tetsuya #2 to appear?
Also, if you have suggestions on who you want Kuroko to meet earlier or who he should talk with more often then review your thoughts!
I am in great need of your help.
