AN: OMG guys I frantically and thoroughly apologize for the year gap of this series, but I have to be honest with you all. After my surgery I had that many of you are aware of, my family and I suffered a tragic loss. A very loved and dear friend, whom I called my brother for 10 years, of ours died in a horrible accident in September of 2014 and put me in a very dark place to where I was failing and thinking about quitting/dropping out of college to where I wanted to harm myself. I managed to pass that semester with C's but I did worse the next. I have managed to work hard and bring up my grades this semester but I have been neglecting what I enjoyed the most, writing this fanfiction and my Naruto fanfiction. I'm still not over my brothers death but I have come to accept it, he was a fan of this fanfic and encouraged me to continue it and I felt I was letting him down when I didn't. Here is the long awaited 9th Chapter y'all! I apologize again because it isn't the longest and kind of quick but please enjoy it and leave a review! Again, enjoy :)
Chapter 9
Pac
Holding our positions in a random Cabin in the Woods
"Honestly, I'm very surprised." I shake my head when she finishes her expedition, very sad about what happened her friend, Aiden.
"Why do you say that?" She questions me raising an eyebrow.
"Well, not many reporters escape dangerous situations like you did. I'm very sorry about what happened to your friend." I give her an apologetic pat on her upper back, soft enough to where I didn't stimulate her pain receptors.
Cassandra's back is surely but slowly recovering. She is walking better since she had taken that warm, relaxing shower, but her lumbar muscles are still tender from the initial impact of the tree.
"He might gone but he will not be forgotten. He taught me everything about international reporting, in a way he was like another father to me," Cass sighs as she eats, "But right now we need to figure out how to contact your friends…if they've escaped and are still alive or your commander on the ship you mentioned."
"It's even worse because we are still in enemy territory and there is no doubt that they're looking for us...dead or alive." I tap my fingers on the wooden table
"How about we make our way to Tibet then India? Judging by our position, which seems to be northwest, we should be close to the Tibetan border or even in Tibet. Then make our way into India, maybe we can see if we can find a U.S Embassy." Cass raised an eyebrow.
"Let's plan tomorrow. The more sleep we get, the better we will think. You can have the bed, I'll sleep on the floor" I lifted my beanie then raised from my chair.
"Pac?"
"Um… I was just thinking that we should sleep in the same room instead of separate rooms. Y-you know that way we aren't alone and if we have to evacuate the cabin we'll be together." I stuttered my words.
She smiled and slightly giggled, "Alright but if you snore I will not hesitate to place a pillow over your mouth, not smother you, but to muffle your snoring." Cassandra is absolutely attractive when she stutters …but when we are rescued by Garrison she will be deported back to the states and I will remain in the Marines with my squad mates. Who knows she may never want to stay in touch or says she will and doesn't hold up to her word. Cass has already lost one man in the service who knows if she can handle it again.
Cass
Sleep was not being my friend this night. I had hope I would be able to sleep better knowing that I was a way from that prison, but I suppose after being a light sleeper because I was tortured and beaten by Chinese Operatives it's starting to become natural. I laid on my back staring at the darkness as Pac's soft snores audited the room. I'm surprised he can sleep with all that has happened. I sighed in annoyance and turned my body on my side, thinking that would coax me to relax. It didn't. An hour goes by and I finally decided to pry my-tired-self out of bed and stumble to the kitchen to drink some tap water. I stared at the embers left from our fire earlier as the cool water soothed my throat.
I washed the glass out and as I was to place it in its designated cabinet, a white flash caught my eye and I immediately dropped the glass. It hit the floor hard, not enough to break it, to cause a commotion. I kneeled to the floor and crawled to the nearest cover, which put me at least five feet away from the hallway opening. I cupped my hand over my mouth to silence my grunt and prayed the noise would be sufficient to wake Pac up, if not I'm on my own.
Pac
A loud, sharp sound awoke me from the deepest sleep I haven't had in ages. I jolted from my sleeping spot on the floor and looked around to find Cass's bed empty with the sheets thrown away from one side. I shrugged and just as I was about to return to sleep an illuminating, white light caught my attention from the window above Cass's bed. I grabbed my side arm and prone on my abdomen to the hallway entrance.
I see Cassandra sitting on the kitchen floor slightly panicked and, what looked like, on the verge of crying. I rise to a kneeling position and, as quickly as a I could, made my way down the hallway toward the kitchen entrance. Once there Cass saw me and some tears cascaded down her cheeks.
" It's alright, Cass" I whispered, " We're going to be alright."
" B-but there is no back door and we won't have time to climb out of a window." She said with a soft flustered voice.
"Shh no we are going to get out of here, Cass. Take some deep breaths and find a weapon: a knife, a fork, hell even a spoon. Just something to use. She nodded slowly and quietly reached and pulls a top drawer open. Her hand scans the contents without making a noise. Cass reveled, thankfully, a medium sized chopping knife.
"Good job Cass. Ok we can do this."
"Pac I'm scared. I don't want to die" she squealed silently.
"You're not going to die! I promised you I would protect you and get you home safely and I still hold that promise!" I looked in her eyes and reassured her.
She looked back at me shocked and unsure.
"Please believe me Cass." I nodded to her
After two agonizing seconds she managed to regain her courage and acknowledged me back with a nod.
"When they come in fight and do not stop. Gain control of their weapon if possible, but no matter what stay close to me."
"And you do the same for me, Pac."
That's the Cassandra I remember! The cabin's only door clicks as the bolt is unlatched and squeaks as it opens.
"Now!" I shout and both Cassandra and I stand.
I pointed my pistol at the assailant and Cass raised her knife in a offensive position above her chest.
"Halt or I'll fire!"
English!
"WOAH! I screamed and hurled myself in front of Cass.
POW
I feel a burning in my lower quadrant. I hear Cassandra's screams but their faint. I fall to the hard cold surface unable to move and I feel more warmth and now wetness in my quadrant. My vision blurs but I can make out Cass's face and the tears literally pouring from her face. I focus my eyes toward the door and I can still hear clear English and one more person kneels in front of me. I clearly make out a United States flag on the person's right chest and right arm.
Friendlies…
I smirk and my eyes involuntarily shut. Cass screams my name over-and-over again, I want to say I'm fine but darkness envelopes me and her voice silences.
Again guys I apologize . I have really missed typing this fanfiction, hopefully I will be able to add more to it in my spare time and keep it coming just like I did before ! As always leave a review and I will bring the next chapter to y'all ASAP! Stay safe! :)
