Deeks drove Kensi and Julia to the boatshed after they finished at the hospital. He had called ahead to get Hetty to set up some of the foldaway cots they kept there so that Kensi could lay down and rest when they got there. She was falling asleep already in the car, so Deeks knew that he would have to carry her inside- not that he minded. But he knew she minded, and he wanted her to decide if she needed to be carried.
"Kensalina, wake up princess," Deeks said softly once he stopped the car.
Kensi mumbled something incoherent but stayed asleep.
"Kensi, I'm going to carry you inside if you don't open your eyes."
"Okay..." whispered Kensi. She kept her eyes shut but wrapped her arms around Deeks' waist.
Deeks grinned and carried her inside the boatshed, Julia behind him, carrying their two small bags.
Callen and Sam jumped out of the car and ran to the house, guns drawn. They reached the front door just as it was closing behind their suspect.
"Stop!" shouted Sam. He slammed the door against the wall and ran inside with Callen behind him.
"Get out of my house!" exclaimed the man that now stood in front of them. "Who are you anyway?"
"Federal agents. You are under arrest for attempted murder," Callen said in a more civilised tone, even though he clearly was just as angry as Sam, if not more.
"Murder? What the hell are you talking about?"
"Attempted murder of a federal agent and an LAPD detective. You know exactly what we're talking about, since you put the bomb in the house."
"Bomb? What bomb?"
"Shut up. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law." Callen cuffed him and led him to Sam's car, still reading his rights to him.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"You know exactly what we're talking about," Sam muttered angrily as they drove to the boatshed.
At the boatshed, Kensi was curled on her side on the couch, her head resting on Deeks' lap. She was awake, but not concentrating on anything except her mother. Julia was on the phone, talking to Hetty about their next move to keep Kensi safe. Both girls we're thankfully distracted and didn't notice the door opening. Only Deeks noticed and saw the guys bringing in someone in cuffs. He looked back at Kensi as soon as he saw who the guys had arrested. He didn't want to scare Kensi, especially after everything she had just gone through. And he didn't want to have to kill the guy either. It was best for everyone if he didn't say anything.
"Kensi, honey, your boss has set up a safe house for us. Marty will be coming too," said Julia as she put her phone away. "She's sending someone to pick us up now."
Kensi just nodded, then put her head back onto Deeks' lap. She was comfortable and wasn't interested in moving right then.
Nell arrived at the boatshed an hour and ten minutes after Hetty told her the plan. She left the car running as she went inside, not planning to stay for very long.
"Hi guys," she said cheerily when he found Julia and Deeks in the main room of the building. "Where's Kensi?"
"She went to the bathroom," said Deeks. "Hetty sent you?"
"She did. When Kens is done, we have to get going. We have a long drive ahead of us."
"Where did Hetty decide to send us?"
"I'll let you know when we're on the road. We need to get going ASAP."
"I'll see if Kensi's done," said Julia as she disappeared into the bathroom.
Deeks looked at Nell. "Is it somewhere safe? I really can't lose her."
"Kensi will be alright, Deeks. She is one hell of a toughie. But, yes, it is safe. Hetty made sure everything is good to go. It's even stocked with all of Kensi's favourite junk food. And we are bringing Monty with us. I have Kensi and Julia's belongings, enough for a month, just in case. I picked Monty up from your apartment when Eric and I grabbed some things for you earlier. Everything is going to be just fine."
Deeks smiled. "Thank you, Nell," he said as Kensi came back from the bathroom with Julia.
Nell stopped the car outside a large, single story house in the country. It was situated at the front of a farm, surrounded by trees on three sides.
"We're here," said Nell as she exited the car and opened the door for Kensi. "Follow me."
Deeks took Monty's leash and followed Nell into the house. Julia and Kensi brought up the rear. Once inside the house, Nell handed a few things to Kensi.
"Those are your new phones. Hetty's number is already programmed into the phones. So are mine and Eric's. Here is the number for Granger, you can put that one in." Nell handed a slip of paper over. "We are a phone call away if you need us."
"This place is amazing," said Julia. "We need to look around. Are we the only ones here?"
"Yes. I need to go, but call me if you need something." Nell said goodbye and left.
