Falling Back: Chapter Nine

Having made breakfast, answered the twins' questions about our new angelic rings as well as their thirst for knowledge about Lincoln, we agreed that it was time to go to the warehouse. Apparently, Rebecca wanted some lesson from Lincoln, also wanting to spar with him too.

Let's just say that I wasn't very happy. Lincoln seeing my sour expression, picked up Elachaea before grabbing my keys from the bowl on the kitchen table.

"How about you give her the lessons and I get to know our kids more?" Lincoln grinned and kissed me on my cheek, before stepping outside.

Cedric having just gotten into his sparring clothes, quickly pulled me along to join his sister and father, while I grumbled along. Still unhappy with the arrangement. Isn't today supposed to be family day?

"Why does she need lessons anyway? I mean, how old is she? Your age?"

"Come on, Vi. Mature a little, and no, she isn't. She's..." Lincoln trailed of, and I glared at him when I noticed that he was driving. Not me.

"She's what? And don't even think that you got away with driving without me noticing." The El and Ed were looking back and forth between us, like watching a tennis match. If they were, I better be the one with the ace.

"Mummy?"

Moving so that I was facing Cedric, I gave him a warm smile. Forgetting about mine and Lincoln's conversation. "Yes, honey?"

"Who's Rebecca, and why does she want to spar with Daddy?"

"She's nobody you need to worry about, okay? Though if you do see her get a bit close to Daddy, do the trick I taught you, okay?" I smile mischievously, and so did he. Even though he acted a bit more like Lincoln, we had the same mind wavelength. Which was great, but he did suck at...wait a minute. Aren't I not supposed to insult my own child?

Without missing a beat, or noticing my inner chastising, he nodded his head off, while Lincoln asked him suspiciously what this 'trick' was. If only he knew.

Finally arriving the warehouse, Lincoln helped get Ed out while I got El out of her car seat. Surprisingly, she had been quiet in the car ride, over. She did have her thinking face on. Which to say the least was slightly not attractive. Her thinking face was the same as mine. It looked like she ate something sour. Cute on her. Hideous on me.

Not even knocking, I opened the door as Lincoln still tried to get information from Cedric. It was hilarious, Ed had this concentrated look on his face full of determination. I had to 'aw' at this.

As El was a bit down, once we got in, I put her in front of the mural I painted before going into one of the closets on the bottom floor. In it was all of my art sets I kept at Linc's house years ago. Setting up a small easel for her, as well as paint and getting her a small paint coat on, kept in her bag, I gave her a small width paint brush. She knew what to do, quickly going into that place.

Someone cleared their throat, behind me. "What do you think you're doing? This isn't your house, and that is definitely not your's." Rebecca put one of her manicured nails on her hip, as she pointed in the direction of the closet and then to the art supplies that I spread out for El.

"Good morning, Rebecca. Had a lovely breakfast yet?" I asked sweetly. I didn't like her, and I didn't want to give Lincoln the satisfaction of seeing me worked up, for this. Dodging her accusations, I went to the kitchen and brewed my much needed coffee.

She huffed, before walking away. Hearing her giggle made me think differently...she found something more interesting. Looking across the kitchen island, I saw her crouching on the floor in front of Cedric and cooing at him, pinching his cheeks. He stood there, trying to smile sweetly. I could see in his face hat he didn't like her and was just trying to be polite. When Rebecca finally noticed that Lincoln was there beside Ed, however, she quickly played it up more, picking Ed up before brushing against Linc's arm, hugging him. Ed wriggled to get out of, what seemed to be a suffocating hold. He protested, saying 'let go' over and over again.

Rebecca not noticing Lincoln's concern and Ed's discomfort as well as protests, only caring to get Lincoln's attention, held Ed tighter as she tried to get even closer to Lincoln. Cedric began to cry and I quickly launched myself over the island to get to him.

Things started to get worse. Lincoln, pushing Rebecca away, only caused for her to tighten her grasp on Ed. His face was bright red and he bean to gasp. His hands were flailing, trying to reach me as he saw me approach them in my fastest speed. My baby in distress, I grabbed Rebecca roughly to face me, before snatching Ed, as carefully as I could, out of her arms.

Elachaea, feeling her brother's emotions, ran to us as I tried to soothe him. He hiccuped, and I held both of them closely. Lincoln not caring about Rebecca's questions, came over to us and began to apologize to Cedric, saying, "I'm sorry, my little boy," and "I could've noticed and stopped it."

Cedric began to breathe faster. He began to get his asthma attack, as little kids do when they are stressed or too tired. Too exposed to many different things, especially viruses. El knew what to do in these situations and got the inhaler. Administrating it to Cedric, after five minutes he was not stabilizing. He was getting worse. Hugging me closer and hitting my chest as I tried to put him into a comfortable position in my arms, I looked towards El.

"Go get my med kit, Honey Bunch."

"Is he gonna be alright Mummy?"

"He will. I'm here remember?" She looked relieved when I answered her with the familiar phrase. "Go get Daddy to open the car door and show him where it is."

Rocking on my heels as I moved towards one of the couches, Stephanie bursted through the doors with a frantic look in her eyes, before spotting us. Relief washed through her face but anger came on as she marched to Rebecca.

Quite frankly, I want to punch that bitch's face in. No one harms my child and not regrets it. I heard yelling assaulted at Rebecca, and I inwardly smiled at Steph's insults. I now remember her 5.0 average GPA when it comes to excuses and insults. She was very, I mean very creative.

When El ran forth with the small med kit, I quickly got to work. Taking out a vial full of a short-acting Beta2-Antagonist drug called, Terbutaline, I took out an anti-septic needle. Laying Ed down vertically on the couch, I cleaned a site on his fore-arm, before extracting 2mls of the drug into the needle. Calming him down a little with sweet nothings, I wiped his forehead, before giving him a kiss. Tapping the injector, removing any air bubbles by compressing the needle a little, I made sure I was wearing my gloves, found the correct place on his arm before injecting it quickly. The bronchodilator should work soon.

As Cedric closed his eyes, I could feel my anger finally start to rise. Packing my things, I touched Lincoln's shoulder as I saw him tensing while looking at Rebecca's form. She was angry at Steph's words, too bad it she wasn't crying out of remorse.

"I've got this one, you go and look after them." I whispered into his ear as I tip-toed to reach his ear when he turned around. He gave me a frustrated look, before looking over my shoulder at Ed. Looking back to me, his expression was of a worried father.

Smiling at me faintly, though it didn't reach his eyes, he praised me for what I did. I told him it was my job to do so.

Patting his shoulder, El joined my side when I started to stride towards her. We were both angry at that bitch. She didn't see what was coming.
