I'm back! This is actually a rewrite of the chapter because my computer decided to give up on life, taking away what little joy I had (geeze, that sounds overly dramatic . . .). Anyway, I decided to write this because I dressed up as Ava for Halloween! Thanks and enjoy Solar Eclipse.
Solar Eclipse
It was very near. That much she was certain of. Ava was awaiting the moment when the Moon would completely cover the sun in broad daylight, bringing out her very best nature. She even made plans to hang out with Jack, knowing her good self would get along great with her frenemy. Heck, she might even be really nice and influence people to do good things while the eclipse was in the sky.
Ava flew out of her underground home, taking to the skies with gusto. She wanted to see the Moon cover the sun. There! Up in the blue heavens, a shadow was slowly creeping across the sun. Ava felt a warm breeze rush across her entire body, whisking away any ounce of darkness she had within her. A small, soft smile formed on her face as her pitchfork vanished in a shower of red sparks.
She was good!
An hour later, on the outskirts of a small English village, sat Jack Frost. He was watching the children play in the autumn leaves, which he had so carefully painted with ice crystals the night before. Though word of him hadn't yet spread here, he knew that within a few years, belief in him would encircle the globe, thanks to the kids in Burgess. However, right now, Jack was waiting for Ava. She had asked to meet him here, so where was she?
Just as Jack thought of her, the fallen angel in question swooped down from the sky and landed beside the winter sprite. Jack turned to her, about to ask what had taken her so long, when he noticed a difference in his friend. Her wings were white!
"Ava?" he asked, noting several more differences the longer he stared. "What happened to you?"
Ava giggled. "I turned good, silly! Isn't this great?"
Jack wasn't sure what to make of it. Sure, at first glance it was a wonderful thing, but Ava wasn't all good. What made her his friend was that she wasn't afraid to get into mischief. If she was all good now, what kind of person –er, spirit –would she be? He didn't want to lose his frenemy!
"Why'd you turn good?" the Guardian asked.
Ava tilted her head to the side like a confused puppy. "Well, it's always been my dream to be fully good, but I'm like this now because of the eclipse. You don't want to see me during a lunar one though. That gets very bad, and I don't like bad."
This was a lot to take in. Ava just wasn't herself right now. She hadn't even called Jack 'Popsicle!' When was his friend coming back? But Jack didn't say anything; he could deal with this for now. After asking if Ava wanted to go flying, the two of them took off into the sky, the tiny village vanishing in the distance.
It had been almost an hour and a half. Ava knew that the eclipse was almost gone, and it honestly worried her. She liked being good! She didn't want to go back to being a half-and-half spirit! For the spirit of choice, Ava felt conflicted way too much in her life, and it was only during an eclipse that her mind was completely clear.
At least Jack was still here. That was nice of him, to put up with her when he obviously didn't know what to make of her. But then again, that might have been her goodness influencing him. Now Ava felt guilty. Her powers were so manipulative! How could she even consider she was good while controlling people?! A tear came to her eye, followed by several more, until the poor angel was practically sobbing. Jack halted the Wind as he heard his friend begin crying. What could he do?
The duo sank thirty feet, landing softly on the ground. Ava continued crying, blubbering out some nonsense about being evil and vile and a no-good, heartless fiend. Jack did the only thing he could think of: he hugged her.
Ava smiled through her tears as she realized that the winter spirit was trying to comfort her. Though she didn't deserve it, she welcomed the feeling. They stayed like that for almost five minutes, Jack hugging the crying spirit of choice while carefully avoiding her pure-white wings.
And then the sky brightened dramatically, surprising the two. Ava glanced up as the Moon's shadow finally passed over the sun, releasing her from its spell. A cool breeze rushed over her, bringing back the grey in her wings, the green in her eyes, and the red streaks in her hair. A cherry-red pitchfork materialized in her left hand as she stepped away from Jack and wiped her eyes.
"Sorry about that, Popsicle," she laughed. "Guess my good-self hates my powers. Whatever, right? I mean, I like being able to manipulate people into making choices. Wouldn't you?"
Jack, for once, was speechless. What was he supposed to say? He was so confused! But before he could get over his confusion, Ava laughed her mischievous laugh and took to the skies, her tattered grey wings flapping against the breeze.
Who wanted to be completely good, anyway? How boring was that?
This wasn't my best work, but I hope you guys like it! It probably doesn't make up for the length of time I've been gone either, but I'll try to have the next chapter up sometime next week. Can you guess what it'll be about? Thanks for reading!
