The day of war had finally come. The male forces gathered in arms in front of their leader, their silver armor shining in the sun and their axes held high.
"Men! The day has come!" the leader proclaimed. "Today, we will assert our dominance over the females of Womanisia! One by one, they will fall and no longer will we be regarded as fools, as idiots, no! We will be recognized as strong, powerful warriors! Not as brainless monkeys who don't know what a silver dollar is made of."
"Or who don't brush their teeth!" a soldier said, showing his pearly whites.
"Or who can't walk two steps without falling down," another soldier said taking two steps forward. However, when he took a third step, he fell down.
"Or who drink from the toilet!" another soldier said, causing the others to stare awkwardly at him. "Not that I do it mind you..."
"Well that ends now! Now, we will fight to the last men or in this case...the last woman! Let us march to battle, to glory, and to victory!" the leader shouted.
The soldiers stood with their leader and marched out towards their ships when another soldier spoke to the leader.
"Uh sir?" the soldier asked.
"Yes?" the leader answered.
"Uh...what is a silver dollar made of again?" the soldier asked.
The leader just groaned in annoyance as he and the soldiers took off and headed for Womanisia.
At the same time, Merida was groaning in frustration and anger as she was once again flailing her sword around. The other princesses, from Rapunzel, to Tiana, Jasmine, and Pocahontas, tried to calm her down, only to nearly have their heads taken off.
They had tried to make decent conversation with her, but every time the subject of Mulan came up, she just went insane.
The next princess to try and settle down the fiery cowled Scotswoman was Belle who grabbed her from behind to stop her from her tirade. Eventually, she succeeded as Merida stopped, much to the relief of the other princesses who stuck to the walls in terror.
With that out of the way, Belle turned Merida to her and slowly went for her sword. "Now...why don't we just get rid of this for the moment and we have a seat," Belle said as she and Merida went to sit down.
"If I ever need someone to cut my lettuce, I'll be sure to give Merida a call," Feemer said.
Being the one who was most experienced in dealing with individuals who had trouble controlling their tempers, Belle figured she would be the best one to talk to Merida.
"Now Merida, I understand you're upset, but it's like Snow White said, Mulan is just doing what she feels is right," said Belle.
"That's the problem, she's putting her own feelings above everyone else's!" Merida said.
"No she's not, she's just-" Belle said before Merida quickly cut her off.
"Just what? Just what?! Following her heart?! Is that what you're gonna say?!" Merida snapped.
"Yes. You know once her heart is set on something, she is going to follow it," Belle said.
As the conversation continued, Belle told Merida that for the time being, Mulan needed her and the rest of them to help her out in the upcoming battle. Even though they had some new weapons, she still felt they had to be there to support Mulan anyway they could.
Meanwhile, Mulan and the warriors had all but mastered their new weapons and with renewed confidence, they were prepared to defend their island to the end. To increase their chances of victory, Walter suggested that they meld new armor from the Black Stone. Although reluctant, the warriors agreed and thus the new armor was made.
The time for war had finally come and as the warriors of Womanisia got in a final sparring session in the palace, Mulan walked out to the balcony on the second floor which overlooked the island and looked out to the ocean in the distance that sparkled in the light of the rising dawn sun. As she looked onward, in the flowing waters, she could see her husband, Shang, smiling at her. Despite everything that was going on, her thoughts came back to her beloved Shang and being able to save him as well everyone else.
Just then, a voice called to her. "Your Majesty?" the voice said.
Mulan jumped in surprise before turning to see that the voice was coming from Walter. "Oh, hi Walter," Mulan said, catching her breath.
"I'm sorry, did I frighten you, Your Majesty?" Walter said.
"Oh no, I-I was just deep in thought with the whole battle thing. What's up?" Mulan said.
"The warriors have assembled in the main hall and are awaiting you, Your Majesty," said Walter.
"Oh, thank you," Mulan said before she prepared to walk off. Just then she turned and saw that Walter was not following her. "Hey, aren't you coming?"
"Me? Oh no, Your Majesty, you have to prepare for battle and I would just get in the way. After all, I am only a mere man. What good could I do?" Walter said.
"What good? Walter, you're the reason we have this new armor, you're the one who suggested the battle strategies. Walter, you are most definitely the smartest man I've ever met," Mulan said.
Shang's reflection in the ocean overheard this and was offended. "Hey!" it said.
"Oh! Except you, Shang," Mulan said to Shang's reflection.
"You are too kind, Your Majesty, but I'm just a man slave, nothing more," Walter said.
"No you're not," Mulan said in retaliation. "You're kind, unselfish, smart, and you have the mind of a great warrior. Just like my husband."
Shang's reflection nodded in approval.
"Well...thank you, Your Majesty," Walter said.
"Call me Mulan," Mulan said.
"Thank you...um...Mulan," Walter said.
With a chuckle, Mulan pecked Walter on the cheek with a kiss before walking off.
This was a strange feeling for Walter. Never in the history of Womanisia had a man been kissed by a woman in any way, shape, or form. This was the first time a woman's lips had ever touched him. It was strange, but at the same time, it felt...kinda good. Walter turned and saw Shang's reflection eyeing him with fierce jealousy and just walked off nervously.
In the main hall, Mulan stood before the female warriors as they awaited her final words before they went into battle. As she stood before them, Mulan felt giant butterflies flittering around in her stomach. Never before had she been in a position like this where she herself had been seen as a leader and now with the male forces approaching, the time had come for her to truly show what she was made of.
Mulan began her speech. "Um...well...ladies...we've come a long way...I realize that things have been tough with the recent death of your former queen and to be honest, I'm not sure I will ever be able to fill her shoes, but I've come this far and I'm ready to go all the way and I know you all are too. So here's to hoping that we make it out of this in one piece (and hopefully not in pieces)" she said.
Walter applauded Mulan's attempt to make a good speech and with that, Mulan and the warrior headed off, but not before Mulan turned to Walter.
"Walter?" Mulan said.
"Yes, Mulan?" Walter said.
Mulan took something from the side of the throne chair. It was another set of sword of shield along with armor that had been specifically designed for Walter's massive body.
Walter's eyes burst in awe as Mulan presented the items to him. "Are those for me?" he asked.
The Womanisia warriors were in shock. The very idea of a man going into battle with them was something they hadn't even fathomed. In fact, most of them openly protested, but Mulan reminded them of how much Walter had done for them and how they wouldn't have the new weapons if it wasn't for him.
As Walter took the armor, he felt honored by Mulan's faith in him and with this opportunity presented to him, he was not going to let her down.
A cavalcade of the male forces ships sailed in droves towards the island as the soldiers looked ahead to the battle that was coming.
At the same time, Mulan and the warriors headed towards the beach where the soldiers would land. Once there, they were joined by Feemer, the good fairies, and all of the other princesses, with the exception of one.
Mulan saw that Merida was not with them and went to her friends. "Where's Merida?" she asked.
"She's not coming," said Cinderella. Mulan was disheartened by this news as Cinderella placed a hand on her shoulder. "I'm sorry, Mulan."
Heartbroken as she was though, she would have to put her current feelings on hold as the multiple ships of the male soldiers arrived.
A cluster of clouds filled the sky as the ships made their way to the island.
One by one, the ships landed on the beach. The two opposing forces eyed each other with silent intensity. The male soldiers' armor shined from the light of the fully risen sun. At first, they seemed surprised at the female warriors' new armor, but this was of little consequence to them. At the front of the Womanisia warriors was Mulan along with her friends and the good fairies as well as Walter.
"Warriors of Womanisia, tonight, we dine in he-um...no wait, that's inappropriate, uh...this is Womanisia! No, that's not good either...ask not what your island can do for you, but you can do for your island, ah forget it, let's just battle!" the leader said.
And with that, the warriors of Womanisia and the male soldiers engaged in combat as a fierce rainstorm poured on the battlefield.
For what felt like an eternity, the two opposing forces were locked what could only be described as the ultimate battle for supremacy. With their new armor, the Womanisia warriors along with Walter, were able to cut through the male soldiers armor. However, the soldiers remained on the assault and managed to take down a few warriors.
One soldier chased Pocahontas to a nearby tree. It seemed as though she was corner as the soldier lifted his sword in the air. But Pocahontas dodged out of the way as the soldier swung at her, causing his sword to get stuck in the tree, leaving room for one warrior to nail him with a hard kick to the face. In another tree, Aurora saw that two soldiers had Mulan cornered. She bided her time as Mulan saw her and slowly lead the two towards the tree. Once underneath, Aurora jumped from out of the tree and landed on both soldiers.
"Aurora! Are you alright?!" Mulan asked.
Face down, Aurora gave Mulan a thumbs up.
Mulan smiled before going off to fight more soldiers.
One soldier knocked a warrior down and went in for the finishing blow, but the warrior slashed at his lower region, cutting off his pants, exposing his pink, polka-dotted underwear, and leaving feeling quite embarrassed as he walked off awkwardly.
Meanwhile, Walter took down a number of soldiers until he was confronted by the leader who went for a blow, but was blocked.
"You are a male! Why do you betray us?!" said the leader.
"I will do anything to serve my queen, Mulan," said Walter.
"Why do this for a woman?" the leader asked.
"Because I love her," said Walter he pushed the leader back and the two engaged in a swordfight.
Mulan knocked a few soldiers back along with Jasmine who nearly knocked out one soldier who landed in front of Rapunzel, who awkwardly smiled before knocking him out with her frying pan.
One soldier went for an attack from behind, but Belle grabbed a handful of sand and threw it into his eyes. His screaming alerted the warrior and she knocked him down with a shoulder tackle.
The rest of the battle was a straight up contest of skill verses might with the Womanisia warriors using cunning as opposed to the male forces who used defense and power.
The battle raged on as Mulan had a soldier on the ropes. Eventually, the soldier tripped her and went in for the finish, but at the last second, Walter blocked the attack and pushed back the soldier with a hard punch to the face before turning to Mulan.
"Are you alright, Mulan?" he asked her.
"Yeah, thanks to you," Mulan answered.
As the battle continued, both sides were unable to get the drop on the other. Each time one side had the upper hand, the other side took it away in an instant. And all that was fueling them was their might, their desire, and their unrelenting fighting spirit.
Walter and Mulan worked together a number of times in the battle and took down a good number of soldiers. However, one managed to knock away Walter with a hard elbow to the face and then knock away Mulan's weapons. Mulan went for a kick, but the soldier caught it, then grabbed her by the arm, twisting it and bringing her to her knees.
"Mulan!" the princesses shouted as it seemed their friend was finished.
The soldier lifted up his sword and eyed Mulan intensely. "With the Queen's death, Womanisia shall be ours!" he proclaimed.
But as he prepared to strike, the soldier's sword was knocked out of his hand by what appeared to be an arrow. As he turned his head in the direction the arrow was firing, a screaming Merida charged and struck him down with a punch to the face.
After the soldier was down, Merida turned to Mulan, holding her sore arm, and smiled. In relief Mulan returned the smile.
"Need a hand?" Merida asked.
"Yeah, that would be nice," Mulan said.
Merida had now joined the ensuing battle and the remaining warriors and soldier duked it out, both side refusing to stay down.
Walter aided a number of female warriors, making sure to keep the ones he could safe.
The leader and one warrior were caught in a back and forth swordfight where they exchanged words as well as steel.
"Give up! You haven't got a chance against us," said the leader.
"Seems to me that you are the ones who are falling!" said the warrior.
"We will defeat you!" the leader shouted immensely.
"You?! A male, defeat us?! Hah! That will never happen! No brainless male could even hope to conquer the superior female minds of Womanisia!" said the warrior.
"Our victory today will prove that we males are not worthless or brainless! We males are superior!" the leader proclaimed.
As Mulan took down another soldier, she overheard the verbal war. As she turned her head, she observed the battlefield, looking at the soldiers and warrior endlessly fighting and the blooded, near lifeless carcasses that lay on the battle ravaged ground. Witnessing all before her, a look of resolved hardened on her face.
Another soldier and warrior were locked in combat. The female warrior knock the soldier down with a kick to the gut, then went for a finishing swipe, but as she did, Mulan at the last second blocked the attack, much to the shock of the warrior, the soldier, Walter, the leader, the princesses, and the other warriors and soldiers.
"Your Majesty, what are you doing?! Let me finish him, we can win this battle!" said the warrior.
"No! The fighting stops...now," Mulan said as she pointed her sword towards the warrior. She then turned to the soldier and offered her hand.
Cautiously, the soldier inched his hand as her stared into Mulan's sincere eyes.
"You saved me? But why would you save me? A male?" asked the soldier.
"Because it doesn't matter if you're man or woman. Everyone deserves a chance," said Mulan.
Mulan's mere word were enough to quell the ensuing battle that had gone on for hours.
She continued. "Listen, warriors of Womanisia! For decades, you have allowed your beliefs to make you believe that men are beneath women and are not worthy. But the truth is that no one is beneath anyone. Man or woman, everyone is equal. We must all treat each other with the same amount of respect and love as anyone. We must not allow sexism to control our emotions, we must use our true judgment and judge people based on who they are. That is where the true strength lies. Thank you seeing me as your leader. It actually felt great to be a one for a change, but one of the things I've learned is that part of being a good leader is knowing when you're not one. And I'm not one. But there is one person who has proven to be a truly great leader."
A plump, fat Womanisia warrior with buck teeth smiled at Mulan.
"Hehe, no, not you. I'm talking about Walter," said Mulan.
"Me?" Walter said in shock.
"Him?!" the princesses said, also shocked.
"Him?!" the warriors and soldiers said, equally as shocked.
"But Mulan I-" Walter said before Mulan put a hand to his mouth.
Mulan then took the crown off her head and tried to place it on Walter's head, however, he was a tad bit too tall for her to reach as she jumped up a few times, trying to reach his head. Seeing this, Walter crouched down and Mulan placed the crown on his head with the warriors and soldiers observing.
Equally as shocked was the leader. Mulan, a female, making a male the ruler of a woman-based island was something his eyes had never beheld.
The battle-scarred Womanisia warriors were also at wits end from Mulan's decision, but they took time to think about the strategies and ideas that Walter had come up with. But more than that, they thought of the kindness, the proper manner, the selflessness and the dedication he had shown to them even when they treated him so poorly and how Mulan stood up for him time and time again. It wasn't easy for them to admit, but if Walter, a man, could do all that, maybe other men could. Maybe Mulan's words rang true.
The remaining warriors and soldiers stood eye to eye. As they stared into each others eyes, they took heed to the words of Mulan and looked beyond the exterior to what lied within. And at that moment, the warriors and soldiers did not see men or women, they saw individuals...fighters...warriors...people. They saw...themselves...in each other. As if by some symbolic nature, the rainstorm eased and the dark clouds parted, revealing the bright new sun, as the Womanisia warriors and the male soldiers shook hands.
In the throne room, Mulan, the good fairies, Feemer, and the other princesses kneeled before the new King Walter.
"Thank you, Mulan. For everything," said Walter. "You changed a whole island."
"I didn't do it alone. You helped," said Mulan as she walked over to Walter. "I know you'll be a good king."
Just then, a thought came to the mind of Walter. "You know, I was thinking, this island needs a new name. Now that we have men and women living together, 'Womanisia' seems rather inappropriate," he said.
"Good point," Mulan said.
"Hmmm, what to call the island?" Walter thought.
"Bloodbath island!" a female warrior suggested.
"No! Broken Limb Island!" a male warrior said.
"No, no! The Island of Pain!" a female warrior said.
Then, an idea came Walter's head. "How about...The Isle of Mulan," he said.
The male and female warriors agreed the name sounded pretty catchy.
Suddenly, the red crystal septor that was held by Fauna began to glow and floated out of her hands towards Mulan.
"What's this?" Mulan asked she grabbed the septor.
"I believe the septor has chosen you, Mulan," said Flora.
"Me?" Mulan said flabbergasted. "Well I guess that means we have to go."
"I will never forget you, nor will any of us," said Walter. "Thank you for believing in me, Mulan."
With the generous assistance of King Walter and the others, the princesses were ready to shove off for they still had a long way to go in their journey. The last of the supplies were pack and with the first of the eleven septors in hand, it was time to find the second one. With that, the princesses turned to Feemer.
"So Feemer, where to next?" asked Tiana.
Feemer glowed bright as Tiana pointed him in the northeast direction. "Just a few miles northeast, I believe," Feemer said.
"All right then, off we go!" said Flora.
The male and female warriors pushed the boat into the ocean.
"Farewell everyone!" Mulan said, waving goodbye.
The other princesses and the good fairies joined in the wave.
With King Walter in front, the warriors and residents of the now named Isle of Mulan bid the group a fond farewell, but not before Walter had them all do one last thing.
"Salute!" Walter shouted.
With that, Walter and the residents of the Island kneeled on one knee to pay their final tribute to Mulan.
As this the ship floated off the course and Mulan looked out to the island, she was given a hard nug on the shoulder by Merida.
"Hey, I thought you were gonna be the big queen," Merida said.
"Ah...being a queen is not all its cracked up to be," Mulan said. "You have to wear a fancy dress all the time and have good manners all the time and not mention those tight shoes and what is up with those giant hairdos that they wear I mean talk about fashion statement-"
Mulan's speech was cut off by Merida who gave her a tearful embrace.
"I'm so glad you're back," Merida said.
"I never left," said Mulan.
The other princesses and the good fairies smiled as a friendship was rekindled and they departed on their way to the next island.
The war was over. From that day forward, men and women lived together in peace, not on Womanisia, but on the Isle of Mulan, with Walter as their kind king. Male and female children played together, males and females worked together and lived together. And the males on the island were treated much better, with more respect, and as equals. The males and females on the island even started dating, some even got married.
And one thing was for sure, non of them, especially Walter, would ever forget the woman who changed everything. In the center of the island, a statue was erected of Mulan. The princess who dared to go against traditional beliefs and change the way people think of one another.
At the bottom of the statue was a plaque and on the plaque read these words:
"Fa Mulan, a hero who taught us that everyone deserves a chance and everyone is equal."
