I struggled in vain to get released from my trap. As I was struggling, my powers must have been going haywire. I don't really like being held down, so I was hearing clanking noises. "And you two. Let's make sure you two don't hurt anyone but each other." The holds were squeezed tighter around me and someone was in front of me. I looked up to see Logan had been placed in front of me, his fists pointing towards my abdomen so if he extended them they would stab me. My hands were moved against his chest so if I released any dark matter it would hit Logan.

"You son of a bitch!" I yelled, looking up as Logan did his best to struggle with no avail. I glared at Magneto over Logan's shoulder. "Coward and a pathetic asshole! Idiot and motherfu—" I was cut off by a brass holder around my lips. Magneto then walked up to where I could better see him.

"I thought perhaps you would have your mother's manners. It seemed they skipped you." Magneto said to me. I continued glaring at him, swearing I would loathe him forever. I wanted so badly to yell back at him… To scream and cuss and punch his face in. But I couldn't.

Suddenly I heard Logan growl in pain and I looked to see I was accidently stabbing him with dark matter. I felt the tips of his claws starting to stick into my side. I quickly sucked the matter away, back into my hands which sent a jolt through my body… Not a good feeling either. He looked at me, pain etched in his eyes as I felt his claws retract. But I felt where they had punctured… I apologized, but it was muffled so I wasn't sure if he understood. "We're okay." Logan finally said. I looked back to see Magneto was watching us with curious eyes. Then, Sabretooth dropped down behind Magneto. Sabretooth grinned angrily when he spotted me.

"You'd better close your eyes." Magneto said, looking over at Scott. Sabretooth looked away from me and walked over to Scott. He removed Scott's visor and Scott had no choice but to do as he was told. If he didn't, he would hit Jean.

"Storm. Fry him." Scott called out.

"Oh yes. A lightning bolt into a big copper conductor. I thought you lived in a school." Magneto walked away and faced away from us.

"You okay?" Logan asked as he looked down at where he had stabbed me a bit. I nodded as best as I could, keeping my gaze locked with his. I needed to focus on something else, more positive so I didn't stab Logan again. As I looked into his eyes, I realized he had pretty eyes. A nice shade of blue and the way they were set on his face fit perfectly. "Don't go falling in love with me now. We have more important things to do." He teased and I rolled my eyes in response.

"Mystique? Mystique?" I looked over at Magneto to see he was trying a radio. I wanted so badly to tell him Mystique was no longer an option anymore.

"I've seen Senator Kelly." Jean said to him.

Magneto turned to look at her. "So the good senator survived his fall. And the swim to shore. He's become even more powerful than I'd imagined." He said.

"He's dead."

Magneto looked at her with uncertainty so Ororo jumped in. "It's true. I saw him die. Like those people down there will die." She said.

"Are you sure you saw what you saw?" Magneto shot and I started cursing at him from under the metal around my mouth.

"Josie, if you stab me again…" Logan started and I immediately stopped moving around. I looked back at him with an annoyed and fatigued expression. I just wanted out of this situation.

"Why can none of you understand what I'm trying to do?" Magneto questioned as he looked around at all of us. His eyes stopped on me. "Those people down there control our fates and the fates of every mutant on the planet. Well, soon our fates will be theirs." Magneto took a couple of steps towards me and removed the thing from over my mouth. "You were raised only knowing what Charles taught you, little one. How can you be so sure it is the right thing?" He asked me.

I looked at him coldly. "How can you be sure this is the right thing?" I asked. "Rogue is a little girl. You are a monster. It's that plain and simple." I turned my head away from him, no longer willing to look at him. Plus, I was growing angry again and I really didn't want to impale Logan. Even a few moment of contact with dark matter is poisonous, hence why Mystique was in pain when one went through her arm.

"Somebody please help!" Logan and I both looked up when we heard Rogue's scream.

"You're so fulla shit. If you were really so righteous, it'd be you in that thing." Logan snapped at Magneto and the man responded with looking coldly at Logan. Magneto then levitated himself up and out of the statue's head. Through a number of fireworks and I watched him disappear into the torch.

"Shit." I said as I looked down and tried to figure out a way out. Logan could try to cut out, but he would slice into me as he did so. There wouldn't be a guarantee he would cut deep enough to kill… But it seemed to be the only chance we had. "Logan." I murmured his name because Sbaretooth was keeping an eye on all of us. I made sure to keep my voice lowered so Sabretooth didn't hear. "If you turn your wrists towards each other…" I stopped talking because Sabretooth looked over at me. I gave him a slight glare. "Hey, sweetheart." I said sarcastically before I looked at Logan again.

"I can't—" Logan said as he realized we were too close together.

"I will stab you myself." I snapped, looking at him. I tried to make it seem like to everyone else we were fighting, but Logan got what I was saying. Do it or else. If you don't and we survive I'll kill you myself. Then I whispered to him: "I trust you."

That seemed to convince him, so he turned his wrists as far as they could inwardly and I closed my eyes, bracing for the pain. A second later I felt the six blades slice across my suit, exposing skin and causing blood to start to rush out. Unfortunately, despite bracing myself I still released dark matter from my hands, stabbing Logan in the shoulder. He fell down.

"Logan!" Jean shouted as Logan fell to the floor. "Josie!"

"Shit." I growled as I looked down at my body. The cuts were deep enough that I knew I would have scars. They weren't deadly as long as I was able to take care of them within the next twenty minutes… Still, that was going to be a lot of blood since I was stabbed in my side once already by Logan. I looked at Logan and held my palm out towards the dark matter. I pulled the clear dagger back into my body and bit the inside of my cheek at the pain. Why did it hurt so much for the dark matter to enter my body? It felt like I had been hit by a train.

I looked to see Sabretooth approaching Logan and I started struggling against my brass entrapment. I wanted to get out and punch the shit out of him. He picked Logan up and I shot dark matter back at Sabretooth. He got cut a few times, sending him back a few paces but he still held Logan. He growled at me and started to come towards me when Logan drove his claws into Sabretooth's guts. Sabretooth roared and punched Logan out the side of Liberty's head.

"Logan!" I yelled out with worry. Sabretooth immediately follow Logan out of it and I started struggling more to get out of the metal. I looked down, calculating myself. If I had my palms out, pointed downward… I would be able to cut myself free. I debated trying to get dark matter to shoot out of my wrist… But since I hadn't tried it out I didn't want something to go wrong. It was hard enough to harness it in my palms. Trying it in my wrists was risky.

I positioned my right wrist correctly and formed a dagger, immediately shooting it out and cutting the metal off. I used my free hand to harness more dark matter to cut off the other metal off my wrist and waist. I ignored the burning in my wrist from the cut I had accidently made while trying to free myself. I jumped down and started to head out to see if Logan was okay. But, claws running just between Jean and Scott diverted my attention enough that until Sabretooth had me lifted by the neck, I didn't notice he had jumped in.

"Lost your fight, have you?" Sabretooth growled with a smirk.

"No," I said as I socked him right in the eye. He dropped me and I landed on my feet, holding onto my hand that was unfortunately the same one with the broken wrist. My hands were pretty much useless now and the pain was unbearable. "I think I've got plenty left."

Sabretooth stood and knocked me back with one swipe. I had been distracted by my hand that I didn't notice him getting back up. I knocked right into Ororo. When I heard another person drop in, my head snapped up. I couldn't help but grin when I saw Logan. "Hey, bub." Logan said just as Sabretooth turned to see what I was looking at. "I'm not finished with you yet." Logan glanced briefly at me before he looked at Jean. "Jean." He said meaningfully.

I assumed Jean did a quick reading of his mind because she looked straight back at Scott. "Scott, when I tell you, open your eyes." She instructed.

"No!" Scott said.

"Trust me." Jean said in a soft tone. It convinced me enough to believe her, though whatever plan Logan had I already was convinced it was a good one.

Logan held up Scott's visor, looking straight at Sabretooth. "You lose something?" He said. I watched as Jean levitated it out of Logan's hand and puts it in front of Scott's eyes... at a 30-degree angle to his face. I couldn't help but catch Logan's eye. He was signaling me to hit Sabretooth with my power,

"Now." Jean ordered and the visor refracted Scott's laser beam right into Sabretooth. It blasted him towards the wall of the head but I threw up a wall that slung him out of the head altogether.

"Josie," Logan walked over to me. "You okay?" He asked as he kneeled down, trying to look at my hands.

"Just fine," I said, moving them out of sight. "We need to cut the others down." I stood and walked over to Ororo, knowing she was the least likely to comment out loud on the state of my hands. I felt them shaking uncontrollably and I was losing feeling in them, which did scare me slightly, but I tried not to think about it.

I managed to cut Ororo down as Logan cut Jean and Scott down. Ororo caught a glance of my hands and I gave her a look, shaking my head. I didn't want the focus to become me, we needed to stop Magneto. I turned away and saw Scott and Logan looking at each other. "Thanks." Scott said, actually looking at Logan like he semi-respected him.

"Don't mention it." Logan responded as we all turned to the hole in Liberty's head. We saw that the torch had broken apart and that the machine was working, sending out its mutating light. Rogue was cut in the middle of the rings that were rapidly spinning and I saw Magneto sitting, looking like he was in pain.

However, I didn't focus on him. "We gotta get her out of there." I said as I looked back up at Rogue.

"Can you shoot?" Logan asked as he looked over at Scott.

Scott shook his head. "The rings are too fast."

"Just blast it." Logan snapped impatiently.

"I'll kill her," Scott glanced over at Ororo. "Storm, can you get me up there?"

"I can't control it like that. You could fly right over the torch." Ororo responded with a frown as she looked back to Rogue.

We were all quiet for a moment until Logan finally spoke up. "Then let me go. If I don't make it, then you can still blast the damn thing." He said.

"You're not going up there alone." I said instantly, looking at him with determination. "I can remove the gravity and you can just leap over, but I refuse to let you go over by yourself. I can help you, especially if Magneto tries to interfere." I stared at him for a second longer. "I'm not asking for your permission, either." I walked over to the edge, looking back at Scott.

Scott looked at me with uncertainty for a moment before he glanced at Logan. After a second, he made his decision. "All right. Jean, use your power. Try to steady them." Scott said.

"Hang on to something." I said with a grin before I turned and focused all of my energy on the area. In a second I felt like I was hit by a freight train. I stumbled a bit, but the gravity was gone so I just floated. "We need to go now." I said quickly as I stood myself straight up. I looked over at Logan and nodded before I bent down and jumped, sending myself straight to the torch. I landed on the edge, nearly falling over the railing but I managed to catch myself with my hands. It shocked me so much that I lost concentration on the gravity and it all snapped back into place. I heard Logan let out a gasp of surprise as he landed on top of the machine Rogue was in. The rings continued spinning as he stood up and I barely managed to pull myself over the rail. We made eye contact for a moment and I nodded to him. He managed to jump down in between the rings. I had forgotten about Magneto, the shock of almost falling surprising me. As Logan began to cut the machine up, Magneto stopped him with his powers. Instantly I knew I needed to act.

I heard metal bending as I rushed to the side Magneto was on and glanced to see Logan's claws were bending backward. I ran twice as fast, and once I saw Magneto I tackled him to the ground. "Your powers are weak, old man." I said, quoting Star Wars as I looked down at Magneto. I glared down at him, giving him a punch in the face before I stood. "I will kill you where you stand if you move even a centimeter." I spat at him. Before I shot a ball of dark matter at him, which smacked him right in the head, knocking him unconscious.

Just as I turned to see what progress Logan made, metal slung out over my head and went over the side of the torch. The light was bright, but it vanished and left me seeing dots for a couple of moments. Once my vision readjusted, I saw Logan had removed Rogue from the machine. I jumped up onto the platform, stopping dead in my tracks when I saw she wasn't moving. At all.

"Come on, kid. Come on." Logan whispered, looking at her with anticipation.

"Logan…" I began to say but stopped. I didn't know what to say… I had never dealt with death myself. I wasn't sure what the sadness felt like… But I was slowly starting to feel it. It was creeping in on me as I watched Rogue. I grabbed onto something to steady myself, looking up to see Logan tearing off one glove. He hesitated an instant then I watched with surprise as he touched Rogue's face. I felt sudden hope, knowing that if she was able to suck part of his life force she would be okay.

After a moment of hope, there was no response. I stared in shock, uncertain what to do as Logan realized this himself. He hugged her, face to face, grief-stricken. I looked down and sunk to my knees before jumping off the platform. Logan didn't need me as he grieved. I didn't need anyone as I grieved, either.

I heard choking sounds from him and I closed my eyes, wrapping my arms around my waist. I figured it was only him grieving, but when I heard something hit the ground, I turned around…

Rogue was standing over Logan's body. "Rogue?!" I cried out in delight as I climbed back onto the platform again. I threw my arms around her, but she quickly yanked away from me, fear etched on her face. "Rogue, what is it?" I asked. She merely answered with the response of pointing to Logan's body. It wasn't until I turned to face him that I same way she meant.

I knelt down next to him and picked up his head, seeing that his eyes were open, but there seemed to be no one home. There were cuts over his face and I felt blood dripping onto my hand. I waved my hand in front of his face and slapped him slightly.

"Logan, wake up." I instructed, shaking him still. "Dammit, Logan! Wake up." I laid his body back down and stood up. I could no longer see Jean, Scott or Ororo in Liberty's head so I prayed they were on their way over. I kneeled back down and held Logan's body in my arms. I looked back up at Rogue and tried to keep a positive attitude. "It's just because of the extent of your injuries. He'll be awake in a while." I said to her before I looked back down to him. I kept my hand on his face, feeling his temperature. He's be okay, there's nothing to worry about, Josie. I kept telling myself that, over and over.

The Blackbird lifted into the air and flew over next to the torch. They lowered the lamp and then a ladder. Logan's body was lifted into the air by Jean and was moved onto the jet. I let Rogue go up the ladder first despite my want to make sure Logan was okay. Once Rogue was up the ladder all the way, I quickly scaled it, practically flying over to where Logan had been lain. I got over to his body and sat on the ground next to it, looking high alert just in case someone else like Magneto tried to screw with him again.

Unfortunately, around the same time all my adrenaline left me. I began feeling my wounds again. And they hurt like hell.

"Dammit." I growled as I looked down at my torso. I was losing a good bit of blood now… I was feeling a little queasy and woozy… Like I was floating almost…

I took one glance at my broken hands and passed out.
