A Glimpse Into the Future
"Be careful of what you say cadet, this gnome could gladly kick your ass any day."
The air lazily carried the faint scent of premature sweat through the air as the cadets filled back into rows. The earth, however, seemed to have rare pity on those that ran and decided to send a gentle breeze through the air. The customary thank you received in the forms of hundreds of gentle sighs.
Sweat slowly rolled down the gentle curve of her neck as the cool breeze caressed her skin. Petra closed her eyes to relish in the quick moment while Viola struggled to fight a coughing fit off to her left. A wheeze left her friend's throat along with a complaint about 'damn dust.'
Out of the corner of her eye, she managed to see Oluo and Jonanthan fall in their designated rows before Shadis yelled for attention. Moving on autopilot, her body mechanically followed the order with ease. Now their training officially began.
Only a simple nod was exchanged between Erwin and himself as he came to a stop beside the taller Commander. A faint scowl shamelessly formed on his lips as the light film of sweat he developed sought refuge in the cloth of his shirt. If he was back at headquarters, Levi would be training comfortably shirtless by now.
"Alright!" Shadis began, "time to split into your groups. Battalion A will start up in the forest while B begins on the field. Understood?!"
A unison chorus of eager voices answered "Sir!"
Levi scanned the crowd of trainees as Shadis continued his yearly monologue. It wasn't a surprise that no one has caught his attention yet. It was rare if someone ever did. 'They all just want the safety of the Military Police, no doubt,' he assumed blandly, 'it's the same every year.'
"Levi," Erwin's voice interrupted his internal scolding of others, "choose which Battalion to accompany."
"B, as always."
The raven haired man registered Erwin quietly telling Shadis his answer before the instructor recited who was attending each battalion. His lips curved in a small smirk. Now, the fun really began.
Petra's eyes light up. She was starting off in the training fields! The girl found that maneuvering through the trees with maneuver gear was much easier once adrenaline had flowed through her veins.
"Hey Pet," Voila cooed quietly off to her side, "looks like I'm in the forest with Commander Handsome while you're stuck here with that grumpy gnome."
Petra shot a playful glare towards her violet haired friend. "Shhh, Viola! You'll cause us to run laps…"
"Don't be such a downer Pet. It's ok to be jealous. It's only human."
"What?! Jealous of what?!" The copper haired girl replied. Her soft voice now rising to a harsh whisper.
A rather dangerous smile graced Viola's face then. It reminded Petra of a snake.
"Oooh really? Cause I'll be busy rocking the treetops with Commander over there while you'll be stuck wrestling in the dirt with ."
"Viola…you shouldn't say that about our superiors…" A rose red Petra now sputtered. The poor girl failing to erase the foul image of Commander Smith and Viola 'rocking the treetops' with each other. It was sinful to say the least.
"What….no one has ever resisted my wild Love Shack."
"Now is not the time to talk about your weird sex life…."
"You two!" a new, deeper, voice joined in their conversation, "Clearly, something interesting is going on between you two. Care to enlighten me?"
'Dear God,' Petra panicked internally. Her back snapped to attention as the sound of boots made their way closer to the gossiping pair. Her eyes squeezed shut in a quick prayer before opening to see a pair of boots a few inches from her own.
"Don't have respect, cadet? Look up."
Petra silently cursed at her slip up while lifting her eyes, finding herself nearly eye level of the person in front of her. A sharp jaw line led up to a straight nose and the blackest hair she's ever seen. Not only that, but this man's eyes embodied a stormy sea. The man's gaze was impassive; unreadable.
Wait.
Eye level?
She was barely 5'2!
Levi continued his sweep of the cadets, but this time manly the majority of Battalion B. There were a few dull faces he remembered passing during the earlier run. The purple hair he strongly remembered. A flash of copper nearly drew his attention before Erwin redirected it.
"Levi."
The only response the blonde man received was a slight tilt of a head and a questioning look.
"Correct their conduct, if you will, Shadis is unaware," Erwin calmly stated. His head slightly gesturing in the direction of two females.
Levi only offered a grunt of agreement before stalking up to two Cadets bordering the A and B battalions. Good thing they were in the first row. No way he was pushing his way through hormonal teenagers only to speak to two.
That damned flash of copper again. His eyes narrowed as he got closer. One girl looked like she was thinking of some weird fantasy while the other looked somewhat offended, obviously embarrassed.
"You two!" he called out. He was closing in on them and fast. Copper hair was the first thing he saw and that drew him to end up in front of the girl who bore it.
"Clearly, something interesting is going on between you two. Care to enlighten me?" his voiced lowered in an ominous octave. The girl in front of him visibly stiffened at his voice. Levi took a few seconds to take in their silence, his cold gaze moving to evaluate the taller girl to his left. Cadet Vixen, wasn't it? He held back the urge to smirk at the sight of the girl turning three shades paler.
Once done with her, his gaze turned back to girl in front of him. Her gaze intent on her, or maybe his, boots. Something dared him to lean in a few centimeters, his eyes narrowing, while her body seemed to stiffen.
"Don't have respect, cadet? Look up," the words rolled off his tongue, laced in cold electricity. As if he flipped a switch, the girl straightened to look him in the eye with a fierce gaze of her own. This, in all honesty, surprised him a little.
The first thing he noticed was her eyes and how they held a suppressed flame; one that was burning, but earned to strengthen. The second thing he noticed was her height, which was cordial in his opinion. 'She's survived through something in her life,' he concluded.
Cold. Cold and guarded. 'Is this what the Survey Corps does to you?' This thought raced through Petra's mind the moment her eyes locked onto the man before her. He was barely a few inches taller than her, but an overwhelming sense of strength clouded over his head. Guilt flash through her when she did not feel the intended intimidation for this man, but rather appreciation.
She was broke out of her daze when the raven haired man spoke again. "Since it seems of littler importance to you now, I will personally observe your training today to see if conduct improves from this moment. In regard to you," the infamous Humanity's Strongest glare turned into something venomous when he turned his attention to Viola.
Petra felt the air thicken around him. The white of his knuckles did not go unnoticed.
"Be careful of what you say cadet, this gnome could gladly kick your ass any day," Levi spoke evenly, as if those words did not leave his mouth. Clearly he overheard the conversation.
His grey eyes drifted back over to Petra, holding it for a mere two seconds, before turning around and returning beside the Commander. His posture, once again, looking rather unimpressed, but his eyes spoke otherwise. They betrayed the spark of interest.
I feel like trash for making everyone wait so long...at least you know I'm still alive right? Hehe... please don't hate me to much XD
Lots Of Love From Different ^.^
