So hey! If I even have any readers left, then I am so so so sorry for the super long hiatus! I'm currently at university, and going into my third year which means dissertation time... so I've been super busy over the last year. And if I'm not doing uni work, I'm actually working at my job so yeah... but I am finally BACK! And it feels so good! So I really hope you enjoy this! Thank you xxx

Rose followed the girls into the classroom at the top of the Astronomy tower. Their daytime lessons were mostly for textbook study, and so she quickly arranged her books and parchment on her desk, having chosen a seat behind the tallest Ravenclaw she could find, in the hope that Teddy wouldn't see her. She wasn't sure why she did it; he would know she hadn't done her essay either way.

"Afternoon, class." Teddy announced as he entered the room, allowing the heavy, solid wooden door to slam shut behind him. "Welcome back to Astronomy. Please open your books to chapter two." He paused as everyone ruffled their pages trying to find the correct section. "You'll notice that my itinerary of classes actually makes sense. Not like every other class in the school that starts you on page 1456 and gives you random sections every week." That gained him a unanimous giggle, but his face remained straight. He was always like that; very serious. Uncle Harry always said that he took after his Dad for that. Remus Lupin could make everyone laugh without intention, and remain totally serious and straight faced. A kind man, regardless, but he knew the time and place for joking, unlike Tonks, Harry would laugh. Tonks was a joker through and through. She was always laughing and lit up every room that she entered. The best thing that ever happened to Remus, he would say.

"Okay, okay," Teddy continued, "Since there are no stars in the sky for us to observe at this hour, as you know these afternoon classes will be purely for studying for your next class. So please, read through the chapter, make notes and then answer the questions that you will find at the end. I will come around at the end to collect your essays."

Rose watched as Teddy headed to his desk and sat down, and then she waited until he immersed himself in what she presumed to be some essays from other classes. When she was confident that he was sufficiently distracted, she flipped her book back to chapter one, and began a quick skim read through Jupiter's moons before she dabbed her quill in her ink bottle and began to write.

"What are you doing?" Tegan whispered from beside her, "Did you not do the essay?"

"I was busy!" Rose snapped, and Tegan shook her head and glanced at her other friends with a look that said that they had been talking about this before. Rose didn't have time to think about that though, because at that moment Teddy stood up from his seat and glanced over at their table.

He frowned, "Girls, please be silent and get on with your work." He watched them for a few moments, before sitting back down at his desk. Rose breathed a sigh of relief and returned to her work.

All that was heard in the room from then was the scratching of quills on paper, with the occasional cough from students. Rose wasn't really paying attention to anyone else though; she was too busy concentrating on her work. She flipped over another page in her textbook, now finally moving on to the final moon, Callisto. She let out a breath, stretching her hand out to relieve the cramp she was beginning to feel from writing so fast, before beginning to write again.

Callisto was discovered in 1610 by Galileo Galilei-

"Alright that's time guys." Teddy's voice broke the silence of the room, and Rose's head shot up, a horrified look painted across her face. She hadn't finished the essay, what was she going to do? She frantically continued writing as Teddy stood up, saying something about collecting work on the way out, and headed towards the door. She heard chairs scraping across the floor around her, but she remained seated, furiously sweeping her quill across the parchment.

She heard someone clear their throat beside her, but she ignored it and carried on. "Rose?" She glanced up now, and gasped, noticing she was the only student left in the room, and Teddy was stood next to her, looking down disapprovingly. "What is this? Did you not do your essay?"

She bit her lip and then sighed, "I'm sorry! I just forgot, I have been so swamped from all of my lessons, and this was the last one due in so I guess it just slipped my mind."

"So you decided to waste a full lesson writing it? Now you are going to have to catch up to the rest of the class by tomorrow night." He said.

"I will! I promise. I won't fall behind."

He shook his head, "I hope not. But this isn't good enough Rose. I have no choice but to give you detention, and deduct five points from Gryffndor. I expect you back here tonight at 9pm sharp." With that, he turned to walk away back to his desk. She just sat there, staring at him open mouthed. She knew he would be disappointed, but she had expected him to cut her some slack.

"Really?" She asked, "Teddy, it was one essay! It was a mistake. I promise I will catch up. Please, just help me out here. We are family!"

"No we are not!" He snapped, "Didn't I make that clear the other day, Rose? We are not family. And even if we were I would not give you preferential treatment. I am your professor now, first and foremost, okay? You would do well to remember that." He looked at her for a long moment, a cold look in his eyes, before he spoke again. "9pm. Don't be late or it will be detention again. Now go before you are late for your next class."

The rest of the day passed in a blur. Rose couldn't put Teddy's words to the back of her mind.

What was his problem? Had she offended him in some way? She was so consumed by her thoughts that she didn't even look where she was going as she headed to the Great Hall for dinner, she bumped into students who swore at her and shoved her, but she barely noticed.

When the food arrived on the long house tables, she picked at a chicken leg, but if she was honest, she had no appetite. Her friends glanced at her nervously, asking if she was okay, but she just nodded. They wouldn't understand, and she didn't want to talk to them about it. She only wanted to be with-

"Hey!" A voice said behind her and she jumped slightly, turning round to face Scorpius. He was grinning, but it quickly melted away when he saw the look on her face. "Rose? What's wrong?"

She stood up, "Can we go for a walk?" She asked, and he nodded, following her as she made her way out of the Great Hall and across the Entrance Hall to the grounds. He didn't say anything as she walked towards a quiet patch, away from all the students. He didn't even speak when she sat down and just looked at him. He waited patiently, knowing not to push her. She would talk when she was ready. She'd wanted to speak to him because she knew he understood that. She knew he understood her. Completely.

"I've got detention." She said.

"What?!" Scorpius gasped. He'd been friends with Rose for five years now, and had never ever known her to be in trouble.

She nodded, "I didn't do my Astronomy essay. I just… I just completely forgot about it! We were having so much fun." She shook her head, her eyes brimming with tears. "He was just so cruel about it! Teddy, I mean. He started yelling about how we weren't family, he was my professor and I would do well to remember it or something." Her voice broke at her end, and suddenly she couldn't control it anymore, and she was crying. Then, just as fast, Scorpius was holding her, and she had her head on his shoulder as the tears flowed. She wasn't sure how long they stayed like that, she didn't really care, she just knew that she felt safe with him, and that he made her feel better. Scorpius always made her feel better.

Finally, she felt herself beginning to calm down, and her crying stopped. She wiped her eyes on the sleeves of her jumper and then looked at him, her cheeks going pink with embarrassment. "I'm so sorry," She mumbled, "This is so stupid. It's just detention but-"

"Hey," Scorpius interrupted her firmly, "Don't you dare apologise. You can talk to me about anything, but don't ever feel like you have to apologise to me for being who you are, Rosie." He flashed a gentle smile, and then lifted his hand to her face. He hesitated, but when she didn't flinch or pull away in disgust he gently pressed his thumb to her cheek, wiping away the last stray tear that had escaped. "You're a total badass now, you know that?" He joked and she laughed. It felt fantastic to see her laugh, but Scorpius couldn't shake the feeling of guilt.

It was his fault she was upset. He had forced her to go sneaking off to the forest all those times, distracting her and making her forget her work. And now she was upset, and in trouble, and he never wanted to that.

"I don't feel very badass," She mumbled, "I feel like a loser who just broke down crying because she got a telling off from her professor."

"Yeah but you thought that that professor was your family, and he was pretty mean to you about it, so I guess I won't laugh at you this time." He smiled, and she glared at him before giggling herself, "Rose I'm sorry… this is all my fault."

She shook her head, "No, don't start. I am a big girl, Scorpius, and I decided to go off with you all those times. It's my fault I didn't do the work… I guess I just expected him to go lightly on me." She rolled her eyes, "I guess I was wrong. Don't worry about it." She glanced up at the castle and saw hoards of students now spilling out into the grounds, "Looks like dinner is nearly over, you should get going. Don't you have Astronomy now?"

Scorpius nodded and stood up, holding a hand out for Rose to pull her up too. "What are you doing now?" He asked.

She shrugged, "I think I'll go see Hagrid for a while, before detention." She squirmed at the word, and he felt another twinge of guilt. "Enjoy Astronomy, but be careful he doesn't curse you… he seems just in that kind of mood!"

He laughed, "Yeah, I'll try and stay out of trouble." He said. Rose smiled at him, before saying bye and heading off in the direction of Hagrid's hut. He watched her for a few moments, before turning towards the castle, pulling his bag over his shoulder.

He paused when he reached the Entrance Hall, and rooted around his bag until he found what he was looking for. He glanced down at his completed Astronomy essay on Jupiter's moons, and then quickly ripped the parchment in half, and tossed it into the bin outside the Great Hall. He shot a quick glance around to make sure that nobody had seen him, but everyone was bustling quickly around, minding their own business. No one cared what anyone else was doing. Then he hiked his bag comfortably back on his shoulder and headed for the stairs to the Astronomy Tower.

As nine o clock approached, Rose made her way from Gryffindor Tower back to Teddy's classroom in the Astronomy Tower. She couldn't help feeling nervous; she'd never had detention before, and thought that she never would. She wasn't sure that she even wanted to face Teddy again after his outbursts.

Seriously, what was his problem? She definitely felt like he was singling her out for whatever reason. Rose hadn't even seen him for months, and hadn't known he was starting at Hogwarts, so she couldn't think of any way she could have upset him. He didn't visit her parents, and she only ever saw him at family gatherings or if they both happened to be at Uncle Harry and Aunt Ginny's at the same time, which was quite rare. So why was he being so weird with her?

She had a feeling she was going to be the only person in detention with him that night, because his anger seemed to be directed at her only, as far as she could see. Maybe she would speak to Albus later, and found out what he thought about it all. But for now, she had to concentrate on getting through this hour.

As she approached the top of the staircase to his classroom, Rose was drawn from her thoughts by the sight of a familiar blonde head. "Scorpius?"

He spun around at her and smirked, "Hey, I guess I'm badass now too."

"What did you do?"

He shrugged, "I guess I was distracted too… I forgot to do my essay." She rolled her eyes and then giggled. Scorpius relaxed. He didn't really know why he was nervous; he'd often not done his homework, it wasn't like it wasn't a believable story. She would never suspect that he was lying just to get into detention.

At that moment the classroom door opened, and Teddy beckoned them inside. He pointed them to two different seats; Rose was seated at the front left-hand side and Scorpius at the back right-hand side. Teddy, or Professor Lupin, Rose supposed she should start calling him, had laid out pieces of parchment and a quill, as well as a copy of their current textbook on the desk.

"Okay, so you two are the only idiots that have managed to get a detention in Astronomy, the official easiest class in this school." Teddy said, "So I want you to catch up on the work you missed. You have one hour. Scorpius, you write the essay you didn't hand in. Rose, you can finish the essay you started in my class this afternoon," He looked at her with a sharp glare, "and when you are finished that, you can start the work that everyone else did today. Anything you don't get finished tonight I will expect finished by the next class. You have one hour. No talking." With that he went back to his desk, and Rose shot a quick nervous look over her shoulder at her best friend. .He gave her a small smile and thumbs up, and she felt herself relax. Just his presence did that to her.

She opened her textbook and continued writing the essay that Teddy had returned to her. She didn't have much more to do, one more paragraph on Callisto and then a conclusion. She finished it in fifteen minutes, and then glanced over her shoulder at Scorpius.

Scorpius hadn't done much work, he'd written a few sentences. He just couldn't keep his eyes off Rose. She was so beautiful; he loved the way her hair looked under the candle light, and the concentration emanating from her as she hunched over her work, furiously writing. Just at that moment though, she stopped writing, and pushed her parchment away, before looking over her shoulder at him. He jumped then, and quickly looked away, returning to his work.

Rose turned back to face the front. She had been sure she'd seen Scorpius looking at her. Had he? He seemed to turn away too quickly, as if he had been caught doing something he shouldn't. But maybe she had imagined it. He wouldn't be watching her, and if he was it would probably be a coincidence. Maybe he had just been bored, staring into space and hadn't realise where he was looking. That seemed more reasonable. He was Scorpius Malfoy after all. He was totally gorgeous, and he knew it, although Rose had never realised that she did too. She'd never looked at him that way, not the way all the other girls did. She always thought that that was why he liked her, as a friend, because she didn't fall all over him like everyone else. Their friendship was real, but could never be anything else.

He would never want that, even if she was beginning to think that maybe she would.

"Rose?" A voice broke her thoughts, and she glanced up to see Teddy looking at her, "Are you finished?" He asked, she shook her head and he sighed, "Can you get on with your work then, please?"

Rose mumbled her apologies, and with one final glance over her shoulder to confirm her thoughts, she continued with her work.
