A/N: Whoo! Two chapters in one day! :D Them being smaller makes it a bit easier to write, you can explain a chapter every other day unless I get tests. I will notify you if I do though. Well go on then, go ahead and read! See you at the bottom...
Summary: Preparing for the rounds of Social Events is what my life has always been about. We don't work, we live from money our relatives send us and nothing more. Until firstborn Prince Sesshomaru looked my way and then everything changed and I do mean everything.
Rating: M (The lemons will be cut out. I might post it on AFF or something though.)
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha, it belongs to Rumiko Takahashi. What does belong to me though is this plot and any original characters that I add in there. I repeat: I make no profit off of this.
CHAPTER 7
Inuyasha chuckled, it went exactly as Kagome thought it would. Leaving the bait for Sesshomaru to actually reach. Ha! If anyone had walked up to him and told him that they could anticipate what his brother's next move would be, Inuyasha would have laughed. Now...Oh yes, now it was very serious.
He could tell how anxious his brother was at the moment, the rigidity of his shoulders, the narrowing of his eyes even his knuckles were tight as a flour at the moment. Oh gosh, this was fun.
Inuyasha sighed, all signs of playful activity gone from his face. For this to work, he needed to be extra convincing and that was tough. Sesshomaru could smell and see a bluff from a mile away, scratch that, five miles away.
Sesshomaru gave a slight sigh, then proceeded to walk towards a nearby chair. Inuyasha followed him, mapping out what to say in his mind. "I don't have all day." The older brother's voice was stern, he was losing patience and quickly. "On with it."
Inuyasha put his hands up in a defensive way, "Alright, okay. This is hard you know?" He coughed, "Kagome went through a lot and I don't know where to start."
"How about when she left my manor two years ago, I assume that was when she— "
"When she tried to commit suicide? Yes." Inuyasha interjected. "Alright then, let me tell you what happened then. But we should probably start a little before that, with the fire."
Oh, he'd almost forgotten. All this talk about suicide, Sesshomaru simply ignored everything else. "Yes. Start from the fire."
Inuyasha nodded and cleared his throat, please don't let me screw this up!
"Kikyo." He bit out, "It's quite simple for this part. Obviously it's quite natural to assume that Kikyo is a bitch." Before letting his brother add something, Inuyasha continued. "She's a bitch because she can't stand anyone else having you. Not that she has you to begin with." Inuyasha flashed a knowing look towards Sesshomaru who quickly adopted an ignorant expression on his demeanor.
"Well that day, I found Kagome by the bridge, the one that separates your manor from the rest of the word. She was ready to throw herself overboard, I managed to stop her right on time. It was obvious she was upset but I never imagined she would want to take her own life, it had only been two months but it was obvious how much she was going through."
Sesshomaru shifted in his seat, uncrossing and crossing his legs, not liking where this was going. "I'm surprised you didn't see it, she'd been living with you. In two months, her skin became so pale, she lost so much weight it was terrifying. She explained how Kikyo was treating her."
Inuyasha crossed his legs, intertwining his long slender fingers, "Kikyo had been terrorizing her from day one. In fact, on day one she dropped..." He let suspense build. "Boiling. Tar. From her window."
Sesshomaru stared, evenly, not giving away his inner turmoil but Inuyasha knew better.
"Boiling tar. How she was able to obtain it is something I ask myself over time. Kagome was terrified. She was also pushed down the stairs prior to that."
Inuyasha cleared his throat and motioned for a nearby maid to bring him and his brother some water. "The same time happened everyday, whether it was tar, hair pulling, punching, beating, pushing, Kikyo didn't care. As long as the poor girl was hurting. Now two months later, when you guys take this fantastic walk that Kikyo wanted to join in on, Kagome supposedly hit her—by accident mind you— and Kikyo whispered into her ear."
Inuyasha lowered his voice, trying to replicate Kikyo's, "Hey, you see that guy over there? He smelled of burnt wood, I wonder what that means?" He cleared his throat to regain his own, "It was quite obvious to Kagome, her own house was made of wood so it obviously meant that her house was burned down."
Sesshomaru stared, repeating this same motion, crossing and uncrossing his legs. "Go on." He ushered.
Inuyasha nodded, agreeing fully, now that he was starting, he wasn't going to stop until story time was over.
"I will spare you the emotional details but simply, Kagome found her house burning, she ran inside trying to save her family, got out realizing they weren't home, her mother slapped her, punished her yada yada yada. Then her mother proceeded to banish her from the family. Kagome was no longer Kagome Higurashi, she no longer had a last name."
Sesshomaru suddenly understood, finally after two years. He finally understood what she meant by 'they're gone, all gone.' She was referring to everything, her house, her name and everything that made her...well...her! Guilt was pulsing through his veins, reminding him of how horribly he treated her that day. Due to his impatience, he sent her away in cold heart.
"I don't think I need to continue." Inuyasha added, "You can pretty much guess what happened afterwards. Judging from your expression just now, you must remember how you treated her afterwards right?" When silence answered his question, Inuyasha nodded, "Yeah I thought so."
The young prince stood up, finally reaching for the glass of water on his desk. He hadn't even noticed the maid walk in with the water, judging from Sesshomaru finally reaching for it, he probably hadn't noticed either.
"Her body's way of coping was to shut down all memories that had anything to do with her trauma. Meaning, tomorrow I'll have to protect her from Kikyo and such. I would appreciate it if you didn't try to remind her of her past, she's better off the way she is now."
Inuyasha began walking towards the door, the moment his hand reached for the doorknob, Sesshomaru's voice rang throughout the room. "You don't have to worry about protection." He mentioned, "I will deal with it myself. Kikyo will not be causing any trouble, I will make sure of that."
Inuyasha's eyes widened, Kagome was right once again. He turned around, looking into his brother's eyes with an even uninterested look. "Sure, like you've been keeping her from causing trouble the past two years and even before that right? I don't buy it."
Sesshomaru muttered something unintelligible and walked off, into the other door. The older brother made sure to slam the door as hard as he could.
Once Inuyasha opened the door, he found Kagome standing there with a grin on her face. One of his famous grins met hers. "He bought it didn't he?"
"Set and hook." He gave her a thumbs up. "Next step?" He asked.
"Next step is dealing with Kikyo." She replied. Inuyasha frowned,
"I thought Sesshomaru was going to make sure she wasn't going to be there."
"Oh no" Kagome replied, "He's not going to make her stay in the palace. That would be too shameful and it would tarnish his reputation. No. He's going to bring her and make sure she stays away from me. But guess where Sesshomaru cannot enter."
Inuyasha smiled, damn this girl was smart. "Girl's bathroom. So, in front of Sesshomaru you have no memories and..."
"Kikyo will definitely know I'm faking it, but who's going to believe her?" Kagome flashed a sinister smile which Inuyasha quickly returned.
You definitely don't want to get on Kagome's bad side.
N/A: Now you see how much of a bad girl she is?! Alright the next chapter is the ball, I already have the next chapter written but I don't know when I'll feel like putting it up hmm... Maybe if you bribe me with reviews I might, just might put it up early. Depends on how many I get though. I'm so evil! Muahahaha!
