I'm aware that I've been on a fluffy/sappy kick lately and it's very un-Gail like, so please give me ideas of what you'd like to see happen in this story, please! And thanks for all the reading/reviewing!
"So what are you and your better half doing for Valentine's Day?" Oliver asked Gail as they drove around in their patrol car together.
"Nothing probably, why?" The blonde asked, rolling her eyes.
"Nothing? Geez, Peck, I thought you were smarter than that."
"What?"
"Come on! You're a girl! You ladies always say 'oh, don't get me anything' and then get pissed when we don't get you anything!" Oliver said as Gail smirked.
"Girls do do that, don't we? That's so frustrating."
"You bet your ass it is."
"I don't know what to do for Valentine's Day, I've been thinking more about our one year anniversary."
"Oh really? Do share."
"It's in like in a little over a month, and one year is big for us. Especially with me and all my cat and tree problems." She said, waving it off.
"Wait, what? You have a cat?"
"No, it was a metaphor…never mind. Anyways, what did you and Celery do for your one year?"
"I think we just went out for a nice dinner and then had a good time at home." He said with a smile on his face as Gail nodded accordingly.
"Well did you get her anything?"
"A nice necklace, I think. You know, Peck, you are a girl."
"Way to state the obvious, Oliver. Care to elaborate?"
"I just mean, that you should know what you want for a gift, and you've been with Holly for almost a year, you know her pretty well I'm assuming."
"And?"
"Don't overthink it, Peck. It's the thought that counts. Give her something that means a lot instead of something that is super expensive."
"When did you get so wise?" She asked sarcastically.
"Eh, I've been around the block a few times."
"So I know that she's been wanting a dog lately, especially since sometimes I work weird hours. Is that an acceptable anniversary gift? Like I could buy everything that the dog needs and then we pick out a dog together?" Gail asked, thinking hard about their conversation about pets.
"Hey, Hol?" Gail asked one afternoon as they were lying on the couch, Holly reading and Gail playing a video game.
"Yeah, babe?" She said, not looking up from her journal to be able to see the smile on her girlfriend's face.
"Do you like animals?" She asked simply, pausing her game.
"I love animals. I just thought it would be kind of sad for them to be at home, with no yard, while I'm at work all day."
"Are you a cat person?"
"If you're referring to you, when you say cat person, then yes. I'm a huge cat person." She said with a smirk as Gail bumped her shoulder.
"Cute, Stewart, really cute. But no, I'm actually talking about actual cats."
"Oh, then no. Too much attitude, I have you for that." She added with a wink.
"What a bad lesbian you are then, Holly." Gail said, grinning.
"Thanks, Gail." She said, faking a pout.
"What? You just said that you don't like a good pussy." The blonde said, hardly able to keep a straight face.
After Holly got over the shock of what her girlfriend had just said, she smirked and looked at her girlfriend.
"So funny, Officer Peck."
"So what kind of pets are we talking? Rats? Dogs?"
"Definitely a dog. And I like having one pet at a time." She said as Gail nodded along.
"I think that'd be really nice, Peck. What happens if you two break up, though? Who is going to get the dog?" He said, having to ask, to bring the thought to her attention.
"Wow, way to bring down the mood, man." Gail joked.
"I'm sorry, I just don't want one of you to be sad without this dog if you break up."
"Well thank you, but I think that getting a dog together will show her that I'm really in this. And we won't be breaking up." She said securely.
"Are you saying what I think you are, Peck?" He asked, like a proud father.
"It's never felt this right with anyone else I've dated, so yeah. I think this is it for me." She said with a smile. "No more climbing trees."
"I really don't know where you're going with this tree situation, but okay."
"It's a long story, but how about we get a few drinks after work?"
"Talking about all this commitment making you itch for a drink?" He asked, knowingly.
"Yeah." She said quietly, looking out the window.
"You're not thinking about doing anything stupid to that girl of yours, are you?" He asked, just wanting to check.
"No, of course not!" She said sharply, turning to look at him as he shrugged. "I love her, I really do; it's just a lot for me." She admitted.
"How so?"
"Well I've been going from relationship to relationship or fling to fling, but it's never gotten this serious before. I mean, yeah, I was engaged to Nick, but I think I always knew that we weren't the best match. Then I met Holly, and she just caught me off guard."
"You're not going to give me some story about needing to sow your wild oats, are you?" He asked, concerned.
"No, not at all. I just don't want to move too fast with her. But everything with her is great, it just fits, you know? I would never cheat on her, Oliver. I don't want to be that person to her." She said sincerely.
"Well good, otherwise I'd have to beat the crap out of you." He said seriously.
"You're my partner. I thought you were supposed to back me up?" She asked with a laugh.
"Yeah, well Holly's part of our family now, too. So I have to have her back as well." He said simply as Gail's heart swelled with pride, smiling when he looked over at her.
"Thank you." She said softly as the man simply nodded his head.
"So did you see that new action movie out?" He asked, knowing that it was time to change the subject.
"You're gonna have to be more specific than that if you want an actual answer." She replied, back to her usual tone.
After frantically trying to come up with a good gift to get her girlfriend for their first Valentine's Day together, Gail was confident in her gift giving ability.
The two had decided on just a nice quiet night in, with dinner and then a redbox movie. Holly had just given Gail four tickets to a brew your own beer pub that Gail was thrilled about.
The brunette wanted to go do something fun together that wasn't technically a sport, like paintballing, but when she ran it by Traci, the detective gave her a solid no and continued to tell Holly all about the time they all paintballed together.
The brunette then went on to ask for suggestions and Traci didn't have anything, but when she was at lunch, her coworker told her all about this brew your own beer place that he and his buddies had gone to the weekend before and it sounded like a cool thing for Gail to be able to do.
"What's this?" Holly asked as she unfolded the papers that were in an envelope for her.
"Alright, so I know that we live together for the most part. And I mean, I haven't been home in a long, long time. But how about we make it official? I want to live with you."
"You're serious?"
"Yeah. These are all potential houses that I liked. They're all in a good area, have big yards, they're good-sized houses and there are no felons in the immediate vicinity. Plus, it's closer to the station and the morgue."
"You've put a lot of thought into this." Holly said, breathing out heavily. "Are you sure you're ready?" She asked considerately.
"What do you mean? We've been pretty much living together anyways. This house would just have both of our names on it."
"It's just a really big step, and I don't want you to feel trapped." Holly said, pushing her glasses up.
"Hol, I wouldn't be suggesting this if I didn't think it was a good idea, I promise. So, what do you say?"
"Of course! I'd love to find a house with you!" The brunette said happily as she stood up to give Gail a big hug.
"Good. Now let's go watch this intense movie." The blonde said, getting a laugh out of Holly.
"Only so much romance you can take at once?" The brunette asked with a smirk.
"That may be the reason." The blonde said dryly as she went and lay down on the couch, beckoning her girlfriend to go join her.
