"Albus! You can't be seriously considering this, it's absolutely outrageous!" Molly Weasley shouted. "Despite how grown up he may act, he's only a boy!"
"Of course he can!" Mad-eye Moody shouted back, jumping to his feet. "It's the only chance we have of finding out what Voldemort is planning!"
Dumbledore rubbed his temples as over one half the room cringed at the sound of the dark Lords name. The fighting had been going on non-stop for over an hour now, on the subject of one Harry Potter. Albus had to agree with Molly, Harry although may act old for his age, was still only a boy, with the same faults and temperament as others his age, and could not be expected to become a spy for the order of the Phoenix, but the situation was crucial. Dumbledore could not simply allow this opportunity to pass without at least a vote on the matter from the other members, at least than, if the boy became a spy his hands would be clean of it…mostly clean anyway.
With a weary sigh, Dumbledore rose from his chair, the room immediately quieted. "A vote" Dumbledore almost whispered, knowing very well the consequences this vote could have. "We will take a vote on the matter." The room looked on in silent shock. "All those in favor of young Harry taking on the role of our spy, raise your hand" Hands went up. "And those opposed?" Heads whirled wildly around the room trying to get a count on the votes.
"It seems you win Molly." Albus said almost in relief, the vote had been close, extremely close. Moody let out an annoyed huff, slumping in his seat, grumbling under his breath.
"Thank Goodness" Molly huffed "A boy his age has no place in any of this."
"So what are we supposed to do with the child?" Kingsley's deep baritone inquired.
"Yeah Albus, certainly we can't just let the boy roam around here for the rest of his life! And what about the effects of him being here, do you think it will have any damage to our world?" McGonagall intoned.
"I dearly hope not, but seeing as we only found out about the poor boy yesterday, I believe some research will be in order, don't you agree? Dumbledore asked.
"But what are you going to do with the boy?" Lily Potter asked with a slight downturn of her lips, almost looking concerned for Harry.
"Ah no need to worry about that dear Lily." Dumbledore said with a smile. "So on that lovely note, I think we can all agree, meeting adjourned."
The occupants of the room began to file out, grumbling to themselves. "Albus you know just as well as I do, we need the inside information, we can't hope to hold out much longer at the rate we are going without some inside intel, and we both know Snape is not going to be enough." Alastor Moody said gloomily. "I don't wanna send a boy to war anymore than you do, but what's more important to you now Albus, The non-existent innocence of a boy-or the world?"
Albus sighed dropping his head into his hands, a defeated look on his face. "I just don't know Alastor, it is not a decision one can make lightly."
"It's one boy or the world Albus, its time you decided before our world reflects his." With that Alastor turned sharply on his heel, and limped swiftly from the room, as Albus Dumbledore shuffled to the hearth, and flooed away the whole time, with a despairingly determined face.
"So what's the verdict?" Harry Potter asked the following morning at breakfast, where some of the adults had all assembled to deliver the news, already knowing the answer he would receive from the looks on the order members faces.
"Can't wait to become a death eater, can he?" Ronald Weasley sneered to Neville Longbottom who looked decidedly uncomfortable with this situation.
Choosing to ignore the red headed boy, Harry continued to watch the headmaster imploringly. Harry rolled his shoulders attempting to get the ache out of them, the couch he had decided half way throughout the night was most certainly not near as comfy as the bed upstairs waiting for him. "The order has voted for you to remain, absent from order affairs at the moment my dear boy." Dumbledore stated half heartedly, knowing what could happen if he had chosen to allow the boy to become their spy, and the effects both good and bad it could have.
Harry nodded knowing the reason as to why he had not been given the go ahead to start spying. They saw him as a child, one who was unable to take care of himself, and still needed to be shielded by the adults, this was most certainly not the case. "Well, if that's all I guess I'll be on my way than." Harry said, getting up from the table, pushing his chair back with a screech.
"What do you mean you'll be on your way?" Lily Potter asked open mouthed.
"Well, it seems you have no need of me here, so I'll just go find somewhere my services can be put to use." Throwing his jacket on, and placing his sword sheath on over his back, Harry turned and made his way to the door, Lily looked ready to jump up and demand he stay, but was interrupted before she could.
"Actually my boy, we had something in mind if you would like to sit down for but another moment." Dumbledore said, a twinkle once again becoming apparent in his eyes.
Not liking the look he was getting from the Headmaster, but realizing he really didn't have much to lose, Harry gave Dumbledore an inquiring look, as he remained standing by the door. Realizing the boy was not going to come sit back down to the table, Albus began "We have many youth at Hogwarts who are aspiring to become a death eater themselves, and it seems they could affect Mr. Longbottom's health, if you quite know what I mean." Knowing where this was going Harry began to glare at the man. "And I believe it would be prudent if he had some kind of protection of sorts" Here Neville let out a snort. "And I believe you Mr. Potter would be the best able to help him."
A low murmur broke out around the room, as order members began talking about it amongst themselves.
Seemingly to come to a decision, Harry cleared his throat "You do realize I'll never get sorted into Gryffindor right?" A slight smirk spreading across his face. "Of course Mr. Potter, I would expect no less from you." Dumbledore said, his eyes sparkling.
