Chapter 8

Despite the fact that she had totally overslept, Anna's eyes still felt dry and uncomfortable. After glancing tiredly at the clock, she stretched and buried herself back into the folds of her bed. Her sleeping patterns had been horribly disturbed lately- she had spent the last few days rushing around emergency rooms and hospitals, along with her mother who, apparently, had taken a few day off from work just for the sake of Elsa.

After taking a moment to examine the files, the doctor finally clasped his hands together as he swung his chair back towards the anxious mother and the two girls.

"Well, I don't see injuries of any sort. We've checked everything-"

"N-no, doctor, really… This giant- metal, just fell on her shoulder! Please, you could check again, couldn't you? What if there's something wrong?" insisted Anna's mother, glancing worriedly towards the blonde.

"Ms. Bjorgman, I assure you. We've checked everything we could; and don't think that we're not as surprised as you are. She should have been killed right there on the spot. But the most important thing is that she's okay, just a little bruise on the shoulder. She'll be fine," explained the doctor reassuringly. Anna tightened her grip on Elsa's hand as they left the room.

Most of their visits to the doctor went like this- the mother inquiring endlessly about the blonde's condition, and Anna holding tightly onto Elsa's hand. Elsa always started trembling awfully at the sight of the doctors' white lab jackets that Anna had to wrap her arm tightly around the blonde to keep her calm.

For Anna, it was too hard to believe what happened, but she had done enough thinking about the situation; Elsa saved her life, and both were safe. That was the important thing. Maybe she had God's blessing. There's nothing wrong with Elsa.

Anna's train of thought was disturbed by a loud growl from her stomach. After a few unsuccessful attempts to ignore her hunger and go back to sleep, she finally gave in and forced herself out of her bed.

Anna scooted downstairs and dragged her tired body into the kitchen. She had just woken up, but it was already halfway into the afternoon. Marveling at how long she could sleep without being disturbed, she immediately started looking around for something to eat. On the counter there was a plate of sandwiches. Her eyes drifted onto a note from her mother.

'Kristoff's school is having a parent-child field trip. We'll be back by tomorrow afternoon. Made some sandwiches for you, food's in the fridge.

Curfew's still 8pm.'

Anna smiled. She knew how much Kristoff had been looking forward to this. Plus, she had to whole day to herself. Who cares about curfew, anyway?

Munching on a sandwich, she started looking around for Elsa. She was not in the front yard as she normally was. So instead of making meaningless trips around town in search for the blonde, she decided to just sit down on a bench on the front porch and read until she turns up.

She had been reading for a while when she spotted Elsa running towards the house on all fours, her blonde hair flailing behind her. She ran straight towards the reading girl, and stopped for a moment to catch her breath.

"Elsa! What-"Anna giggled, clearly taken aback. "What's going on?" Elsa stood up and tugged on her wrists, leading the confused redhead out onto the yard, and towards the meadow.

It was the place that the boys, Kristoff and Olaf, always played their games. Anna had been here only once before to watch them play baseball, but it was the first time that she had accompanied Elsa, just the two of them. When they had reached the middle of the meadow, Elsa finally stopped, sat down on the grass and looked up expectantly at Anna.

"So… Am I supposed to sit here?" asked Anna as she sat down next to the girl with a grunt. Elsa beamed excitedly at her direction. "I'll take that as a yes."

Not knowing what to expect, Anna glanced at the blonde, who had turned her gaze towards the horizon. Trying her best to hide that she was dying of curiosity, she lazily stretched out her legs and looked around.

It was then that she realized how perfect the day was. The crisp autumn breeze brushed against her skin pleasantly, with the warm afternoon sun glowing above her. It wasn't a scene that one could witness every day- it was definitely beautiful. She had always thought that the dense forest, which started on the edge of the meadow, was a bit dark and scary. But today, it was different. The songs of birds drifted from the trees, and they were swaying gently due to the wind. Most of all- sitting right next to her was Elsa. The girl that almost seemed like a part of the family. The first girl whom she could actually call a friend. Anna turned her head back to Elsa, who was still staring intently at the horizon. The sunlight was making her porcelain skin glow in its soft orange light. Anna admired those eyes that sparkled brightly whenever she listened to Anna's rambling and, her platinum blonde hair that still managed to remain beautiful despite being so carelessly brushed back in her mother's hands.

Anna almost jumped as the blonde suddenly turned towards her with an excited grin spreading across her face, pointing at the horizon. Finally, Anna realized what the other girl had been trying to show her.

It was the sunset. Both girls watched, their mouths hanging open in pure admiration, as the fiery red circle slowly sank beneath the horizon, dyeing the heavens first orange, then red, then pomegranate pink, until all that was left of the sunset was a chalky mauve, which also gave way as the dark shadows of night took over the sky.

Anna was at a loss for words. It was the most amazing thing she had seen in her entire life, and until then she never knew nature could generate such beautiful colors. Now thousands of stars were blinking down upon them, casting a pale light over the two girls.

"Elsa," Anna called out contently as she lay down completely on the grass, "look, the sky's awake." Anna felt a smile tugging at her lips as she watched Elsa lie down next to her, her expression as happy as ever.

The pair lay there in silence, simply watching those sparkling beauties embroidered on the dark canvas. Anna felt like she could just lie there forever with this girl. She hoped that every day ahead of them will be as perfect as this one. That no one will ever come between them to set them apart.

"Elsa?" Anna broke the silence as she linked hands with the blonde, who held on tightly.

"I… Should have said this to you a lot earlier but…" she paused, "thanks for… everything." Her eyes locked with the icy blue ones that were watching her with sincere warmth and affection- they were so beautiful, and so comforting though she really couldn't figure out why. Being with this girl always made her feel so complete.

The wind was now getting colder, sending chills down the girl's back. But the heat radiating off Elsa's body was more than enough to keep her heart warm. Judging from the temperature, winter would be coming sooner or later. She felt relieved that she had enjoyed the outdoors when she had the chance.

"Elsa, it's getting cold out. Let's head back inside," Anna spoke up again softly, not taking her eyes off the blonde's. She had totally forgotten the fact that Elsa was wearing a single T-shirt. She has got to be freezing. Feeling a bit guilty about her ignorance, Anna helped the other girl get up and made their way back into the house.

When Anna had washed up and changed into her nightclothes, it was almost midnight. Elsa followed her everywhere, even when they were indoors.

"Elsa, we gotta go to bed now," yawned Anna, trying to stop Elsa from following her into the bedroom, "Go to your room and get some rest." Anna tore her eyes off the puppy dog eyes that the blonde was giving her, and clicked the door shut. When she crawled onto her bed, she heard soft whimpers outside the door, along with some scratching. She sighed as she heard the girl slump down on the floor right in front of her door.

For God's sake, how am I supposed to say no to that…

Elsa jerked up as she heard the door open once again. Anna stared down at her.

"You are not sleeping here all night," she sighed, and glanced inside the room. The bed was way too small for two people. After glancing once more at the excited blonde, Anna finally gave in. "Ugh. Fine, you can take the floor."

She hesitated for a moment, then added, "But first, let's get you a mattress. Help me out."

The gusts of wind grew colder as the night deepened. The frail-looking windows of the villa rattled continuously, simply adding on to Hans' sleeplessness. The immense amount of alcohol he had been taking in, and the fatigue from fucking a stranger all night just didn't seem enough to get him to sleep.

Frustrated, he sat upright and glared down at the naked woman, fast asleep next to him on the bed. She looked surprisingly like the girl that occupied his mind every second. Red hair, light freckles, and sea green eyes- She was definitely one of the prettiest women he had taken home from the club. She really was.

But it wasn't Anna.

How many nights had he spent tossing and turning thinking of this girl! He cursed himself almost every day. Why couldn't he be nicer, why couldn't he be warmer? But he was so used to acting like a douche and nobody ever said anything about it. They couldn't say anthing about it. He was always the top dog, the one with powers. But this girl wouldn't take that. Every time he opened his mouth to speak, something shitty would come out- and he knew that she hated him for it. He had turned to the last resort, trying to take her by force, only to realize that these were one of the few things that he couldn't get for money.

It was sick. He was sick of fucking random girls he met at the bar, trying to believe that it was Anna. The mere thought of her made him swoon, but in reality, she was a person far out of his reach.

Finally, he got up and hastily pulled on his clothes. His head was still spinning from the intoxication of the liquor. Almost tripping over one of the many empty beer cans that littered the floor, he left the room, not casting another look at the sleeping woman.

A/N: Heyo! How is everybody? It's been what, almost a year and a half since the last update. Sorry about that. I had a lot going on in my life, it's been pretty tough as well. But as I've mentioned before, I'll be finishing this fic no matter what. Thanks for being so patient, and I would like to give special thanks to NostalgiaDarkness and my good friend K.J.W. for helping me out. :)

Hope you enjoyed this chapter! Let me know what you think!
