Chapter nine: Daisy
"Do you understand the plan, Iris?" Lily asked. The purple haired trainer nodded. The plan is to divide and conquer. The group will be split in two. N and I will lead one, and Iris will lead the other with Rose. The plan is to attack from two sides: the front and the back.
"It will take a day or two to get there, so everyone should pack to camp out," N told us. I sat back and watched the others fine tune the plan.
"Daisy?" I looked up at my younger-by-a-year sister. "I'm counting on you and N to help the Pokémon. Can you do that?"
"I can and I will," I answered. She nodded.
"Be safe. All of you. I will call again in the morning." She ended the call.
An hour later, I closed the final box of food and put it in a saddle bag with other boxes. I connected the bag to a Gogoat and patted his neck. "Thank you for your help. Go on to your friends until we leave," I muttered to him. He walked away.
"Your gift is really incredible," N said behind me.
"Thank you." I stood and started cleaning up my mess from making boxable meals. "Remind me to thank Nurse Joy for allowing me to use the kitchen when this is over."
"I will." I nodded and sighed softly. I always get nervous around N. He understands my gift. He understands me as a person. Not many people outside of Lily and Rose do.
"What time are we heading out?' I looked back at him.
"Iris will sound the alarm."
"I have food packed for tonight's and tomorrow's dinners and tomorrow's breakfast for everyone. I hope that's all we're going to need."
"It will be if everything goes as planned." I looked up as an alarm sounded throughout the Pokémon Center. We ran outside to where everyone was gathering and splitting up into their teams. Iris and Rose were astride her Dragonite with their group behind them astride their Pokémon. "Iris, take care of my sister. And bring her back to me safely." I mounted a Gogoat and N an Arcanine.
"I promise I will. Good luck in the front," she said.
"You too in the back. Let's move out!" The two groups separated. Heading to the same field using two different paths.
~Line Break~
I paced the inside of my tent, nervously biting my fingernails. Everyone else in the group has fallen asleep already, but I can't. my mind is too restless. What if someone dies tomorrow? I can't have that on my conscience! I wouldn't be able to bear it!
"Daisy, are you awake?" My heart pounded in my chest at N's soft voice. I looked at my tent entrance and saw his shadow by the light of a hand held candle.
"Yeah, come on in." He opened the flap and stepped inside. My heart pounded even more as the flap closed silently behind him. We're alone. In a tent.
"I couldn't sleep. I remembered how anxious you had seemed before, so I came to check on you."
"Thank you. That's really sweet of you." I looked into his eyes for a while before looking away, blushing. I always do that! I'm pathetic.
"Are you alright?"
"I'm scared," I answered truthfully. "Tomorrow, we will be facing off against Team Rocket, most of whom are not as stupid as Jessie, James, and Meowth. I'm afraid many will die in battle. I don't want that to happen. But I see no way to prevent that from happening other than stopping the raid."
"Everyone is prepared to battle hard. Our determination and our bravery alone will win this for us."
"That reminds me. Braviaries are going to solicit more help."
"I hope they get back in time."
"Me, too." I sat down on my sleeping bag and hugged my knees to my chest. He sat next to me. "I wish Lily were here," I sighed.
"She felt it was her duty to face off with Ash and your siblings., and I agree with her." I looked at him. "Lily knows she can break whatever Team Rocket has on Ash. And she can defeat Raven and Robin."
"She can break any spell. Her heart is just that pure. That's why I need her. Though she's younger than me, I count on her cheerfulness to make me feel better. Safer."
"Is there anything I can do to lighten your mood?" I looked into his eyes again. 'There is one thing,' I thought. As if he read my mind, he trailed a finger down my temple to my cheek and stopped at my chin.
And he kissed me.
