PLEASE READ: Hey guys. I update bearing (obvious) bad news and maybe good(ish?) news.

The bad news is I clearly ran out of inspiration for this years ago. I tried to get it back a few times, but I just couldn't. The 3rd film was so meh (it didn't even acknowledge Kahmunrah's existence) and the 2nd film didn't even have Ahkmenrah in it. Very happy at how Mr. Robot is being received however, yay for Rami Malek! c:

To the good-ish news, depending on how you view it. So while I am abandoning this story - I really have to, I have my hands full with life and trying to write the Legend of Zelda and Avalon Code fic in between - I don't want to leave you hanging on how the story was going to play out. So I'll post here the little I had written after the last chapter and then give you a summary of how it was going to play out. All of it! Until the end. I never took the 3rd movie into consideration so we'll pretend that doesn't exist. So...without further ado, here's the little I had written out:

Chapter 9

"Not, really, no," was Kiya's reply as she slipped her cellphone into the front pocket of her jeans. There was no losing it again. "Why do you ask?"

"They say that long ago, an Egyptian pharaoh had finally divined the secrets to life and death. His followers believed they could return the dead to the sea of souls," Keith explained, "to have them reborn again."

Kiya wrinkled her nose. "I've never heard of such a thing. It sounds peculiarly like something that might happen in The Mummy, however. Which was a movie."

She hardly noticed the heavy breath Keith took, too busy finding amusement in the idea. Although Kiya had never cared for 'Imhotep' and 'Anck-Su-Namun' – adultery was adultery, after all – a love that transcended time only to fail over and over again was bittersweet. Yet it was Rick and Evie's story she cared for the most, to have two people in control of their own destinies still wind up falling in love no matter the circumstances. Perhaps because of them. Not something innate in them, like it was meant to be.

Keith cleared his throat. "I'm not surprised. The findings regarding such a pharaoh are scant, if only rumored, for fear of fools attempting to recreate such magic. But it's a fascinating thought, don't you think, to gain the chance to undo one's mistakes?"

"Fascinating, but futile," Kiya thought aloud. "Considering that's possible, the wrongs one committed in the past won't necessarily be the wrongs one commits in the future."

"History has always repeated itself. It is only up to its players to avert the ending."

"I respect your opinion," Kiya reminded Keith, sensing his slightly hostile tone. She hadn't meant to offend him with her answer, but she cared little for the idea. Even Ahkmenrah's corpse could only be revived by the tablet – why hadn't he reincarnated, if such a thing was possible? "Even if reincarnation concerns second chances, the reborn won't recall their old mistakes. And if their mistakes centered their loved ones in the past, their situation will be different in the future. They will be with different people, won't they?"

"You have a point," said Keith, tone noticeably softer. "Unless the person's closest acquaintances were also reincarnated. Fate has a way of weaving its way through each soul, no matter the body. Sooner or later, at a certain age, it was said that the reincarnated are bound to remember who they were."

"And then the reborn will be torn between their old and new lives, won't they?"

Keith shook his head as though it was the answer to all her questions. "No matter what happens, it is still the same soul. Who you are will always surface, no matter how you try to hide it."

"Then it's a good thing I am not anybody's reincarnation," Kiya laughed. "I would hate such a duty. After all, though my past life may have desired to live again, that I should want the same thing isn't a natural consequence."

"Even if you had committed a grave mistake," asked Keith, "and you had the chance to change it?"

Kiya was beginning to tire of the conversation. It confused her—she had no idea why Keith had brought this up—and she was unsure of how she felt about it. "Why do you ask, Keith?"

The man watched her for a moment before his serious expression broke into a smile. "I'm sorry if I've burdened you with such a peculiar train of thought. It's…just something I think about, sometimes."

"Go fish."

Across the table, Larry quirked a brow. "You really don't know how to play poker, Kiya?"

"Hmm?" The young woman glanced up from her cards, lips pursed in thought. She and Keith had parted on pleasant terms, but his questions burned in her mind until now. Playing cards with Larry upon his arrival had been a nice way to put it out of her mind. "Oh. Of course I know how to play poker. But it's an unhealthy thing, playing it all the time and betting your things…"

The night guard noted the thoughtful way she said it and couldn't help his laughter. "You had a poker addiction?"

She didn't look happy to discuss it. "When my brother and I were younger, traveling with our mother's friends… One of our professors taught us how to play," she answered. "I was quite good – until Horem and I started betting our learning hours. That was where mother drew the line. But our teachers did tell me I had a hell of a poker face."

Larry grinned. "I can believe that. Unless Ahk's around, at least."

Kiya blinked at him. "What do you mean, Larry?"

The man only cleared his throat, shaking his head in disappointment. "Oh, man. He's gonna have to work even harder. Forget I said anything."

Finally, his teasing settled in Kiya's mind. A poker face referred to one's ability to stay calm even in the most harrowing situations—an ability she lost as soon as the pharaoh arrived. "Oh." She frowned, "Well…not" – and coughed – "not really…"

"That's what I thought," said Larry, triumphantly.

"No," Kiya insisted. That would be, well, impossible. He's a pharaoh, and I'm…"

"What?" Larry scoffed. "A commoner?"

Kiya looked pensive all of a sudden, though she realized how silly it sounded as she affirmed it in her own mind. The thought that he was dead and she was not hadn't even crossed her mind until then.

"Hey," said Larry, calling her from her reverie and setting his cards down on the table, "don't kill a nerve thinking about it. I was only kidding. It's just you get along so well, and it's hard for Rebecca to think otherwise."

"Rebecca," Kiya remembered. "Where is she?"

"Coming soon. She had a few things to mail to her parents that she accidentally brought back."

"What about Nick?"

"They're going together."

"Oh."

"What?"

"Nothing," she murmured, wondering if it was all right for her to say. "I just had a thought – that Rebecca must be very important to you if you would have her accompany Nick. It's—I'm sorry. I tend to compartmentalize things. People."

Larry shrugged. "Yeah. I mean, Rebecca and I have gone out… a few times. After the museum thing and Sacagawea helped her with her dissertation."

Kiya watched him as he spoke. When he did, of Rebecca, his features took on that look that Horem wore whenever he spoke of Annie. Even if she'd been disgusted the first time, because she'd wanted Annie to be her friend and not his lover. She wondered why she ever thought that friends couldn't be shared with her brother.

"You should court her, Larry."

Larry seemed to choke at that. "What?"

"Court her," said Kiya, like it was the was the simplest thing in the world. "Ask her to be your partner."

"We're…kind of dating. I think."

"What's kind of?"

"You know," he tried to say. Larry wondered how Kiya of all people could make him feel awkward with that genuinely inquisitive look on her face. Then again, she used to be overly formal, and she had said she hadn't really made friends with people her age besides her brother until she reached college. Dating probably wasn't her thing.

"Is she aware of your romantic intentions?"

"…I think so."

"How can you be unsure?" Kiya gasped.

Larry didn't know whether to laugh or sigh. "It's not that easy. She's a scholar, and I'm…"

"What?" the girl prodded. "I think – you two complement each other. I say this from the experience of watching my brother and his girlfriend."

"…a commoner," Larry muttered, almost chuckling at the absurdity of his own words, seeing that even someone as rigid as Kiya was guileless this way. "Thanks, Kiya. I needed that kick."

"What kick?"

"Dad! Kiya!"

Nick, who had the back room's spare key one of the former night guards had replicated, bounded into the main lobby of the museum. Behind him, Rebecca followed with an amused grin.

Larry and Kiya stood to greet them, with the former squeezing his son's shoulder. "Hey, kiddo." Then he glanced up, smiling at Rebecca. "Uh…can we talk?"

"All right," she answered unsurely, lifting a brow at Kiya as she followed him to the diorama section, but the girl only smiled.

Nick grabbed Kiya's arm as soon as they were alone. "Kiya, look what I got for Ahkmenrah!" Removing his backpack, he rifled through it and pulled out three DVDs. "Indiana Jones! He kept asking me about them, and I know my dad has a collection of this stuff from before."

Kiya accepted them and looked through the movie stills on the back cover. They looked just as exciting as she found them as a child. "I enjoy this series. I'm glad you found them, Nick."

"My dad couldn't have," he laughed. "Ever since we hired someone to tidy up his place, he's been a mess. He doesn't know where anything is anymore."

PLEASE READ: Sadly, that's all I had inspiration left for. But I did have it all planned in my head - some of it was even written down, and just ready for fleshing out. I didn't even have the energy for that, though, so I will leave it as it was planned and post it here if you'd like to read it. I'll also type down what I had in mind, all the reveals and such. If anyone ever wants to pick it up and write it out for themselves, go ahead. Just let me know because I'd love to read it. Otherwise, this is it. c: Apologies for the walls of text. I tried to break them up a bit, but it's just how I make plans for my stories.

Kiya laughs and follows Nick to the oceanology department, where there's an overhead projector they can play against the white wall. Kiya says he certainly knows his way around the museum. Nick says of course, his dad has the best job ever! After a silence, he says, no offense to your dad. What does he do, anyway? Kiya says he used to be an archaeologist. He died in a cave-in when I was little. Nick says sadly, I'm really sorry to hear that. But it was a really cool job, I bet! Kiya says she's certain it was. Once the museum has come to life, everyone is gathered in the oceanology department. The whale has been asked to not sprinkle water while the show is ongoing. Kiya and Ahkmenrah sit somewhere behind it, on top of a museum case that they moved for the time being. Kiya ignores Ahkmenrah in favor of enjoying the movie at first, but when he gives an 'oh' of excitement with the crowd, she turns to look at him. It's dark, but against the light of the movie she feels like she can see him even more clearly. Her heart pounds at the sight of him and her fingers shake. It's an illogical reaction, since even with Gavin to whom she believes she was attracted, this didn't happen. She tries to think of why this may be happening. Perhaps it's because he's the Pharaoh, her bridge to understanding their past, or because they get along so well. It's like Larry said. Kiya thinks that this is all Larry's fault. If it weren't for him, she wouldn't even be thinking about this. But it did feel familiar, when he mentioned it. Like she knew it for a while but forgot to think about it. It could also be because he actually seems genuinely interested in her life without judging her for the family she was born into.

But she has friends like that: like Rebecca, Larry, Nick, Sacagawea and Teddy. There's Shaila O'Connor, too—she thinks they're friends. Aren't they? And Ramy. She's forgotten her surname and she never gave Ramy her own surname, but she trusts her. And…Keith. Him, too. And Annie, of course, since she approached her seeking a friend not even knowing who she was. Or could it be that Ahkmenrah helped her situation with Horem, gave her advice without judgment? It was all these things and none of these things. He was Ahkmenrah, and that was why she…why she… Kiya groans. She had a crush. On a dead Pharaoh. 'Kiya?' Ahkmenrah asks. Kiya returns to reality and sees the green of Ahkmenrah's eyes. He asks, are you all right? 'Yes,' she says. 'I simply…remembered something.' (And this statement is true, more than she knows.) 'That I had to do.' Ahkmenrah looks at her as if waiting for her to continue.' For school,' she finishes. 'I see, ' says Ahkmenrah, who frowns. He says, 'do you need to leave early? ''No, ' says Kiya. 'It's not important. ' Ahkmenrah smiles at her and she smiles briefly before turning back to the movie. Indiana Jones continues to impress, but Kiya isn't watching the movie anymore. When the movie ends, Ahkmenrah says 'that was indeed amazing! How exciting. I'd like to learn more about this Ark. ' Kiya says that 'the secrets to that are as intriguing as the secrets of your kingdom. ' Ahkmenrah smiles and says' what fascinates you so about my kingdom? ' Kiya says 'well, your time was so different from mine. I suppose…I suppose it's like…' she looks away from him. The words die on her lips when she looks at him, those eyes staring back at her. She then remembers her dream from nights ago.

She asks Ahkmenrah, 'by the way, your friend, the one who became commander-in-chief. It was…Heb, wasn't it? ' Ahkmenrah turns to her in surprise. 'Heb. Yes. ' Then he gets a look of comprehension and says 'was he well-known in the history books? ' Kiya says 'actually, I was wondering if—if he ever left the palace. If he ever deserted his position as commander-in-chief. ' Ahkmenrah looks distant when he replies, ' yes. Because of a woman. ' 'Did you have a fight? Over this woman? ' Asks Kiya. She feels like there's a heavy weight in her stomach.(She's jealous of the idea of him loving a woman enough to fight with Heb about her.) A woman. Could it be Amunet? Kiya wonders to herself. Ahkmenrah sighs. He says 'we had a falling out, though—' he touches his head. He says 'I can't even remember what they fought about anymore. The woman was a trifle matter and I permitted their love. But mother did not approve of her. Kahmunrah was equally adverse to the idea. ''So you didn't love her, ' says Kiya, not realizing she's relieved. She remembers they're moving on with the conversation and adds, 'oh, but why did they disapprove of the woman? ' Ahkmenrah kneads his forehead. He says 'I can't…' Kiya says it's all right that Ahkmenrah doesn't remember. 'But - Heb did come back, ' she says. Ahkmenrah says he doesn't recall that he did. He would have welcomed him back with open arms, otherwise. Kiya says, 'not in your lifetime…he became Pharaoh, after Kahmunrah.' Ahkmenrah asks, 'Kahmunrah succeeded me? ' Kiya hopes not to get back to the topic of his death, remembering how that affected him before. Kiya says 'yes. You had no heirs, so the crown went to your brother. ' 'Oh, ' says Ahkmenrah. Kiya wonders if she should push further. But she has always wondered. She asks him, 'did you ever have a…wife? ' Ahkmenrah repeats, 'a wife? No, I was always too…I don't think…' Ahkmenrah suddenly cries out. He has an extreme headache and falls to the ground, clutching his chest. Kiya gasps and shakes him, trying to wake him up. The chimp hears her cries and appears, shaking Ahkmenrah, to no use. The chimp cries out for someone and Ahkmenrah's jackals arrive, but by then Ahkmenrah has recovered slightly.

He sits up, asking what happened. 'My lord, ' the jackals ask. 'Are you all right? ' Ahkmenrah says yes. He apologizes to Kiya, who says it's all right. She tells him she's sorry she asked. Ahkmenrah says no, he doesn't mind talking about those things. He says he'd like to talk about her instead, like—how she is with her brother, Horem, wasn't it? I heard you say he had food poisoning. That was prevalent in my day. Kiya says yes, her grandfather even says it might have been directed at him. Ahkmenrah says that's terrible, then asks about her grandfather. 'How are they? I can't wait to meet them. ' Ahkmenrah has circles under his eyes, as if he'd fainted or something after the ordeal with the head and chest ache. Kiya asks if he's all right. The Jackals says 'perhaps you should rest, my liege. You look almost ill.' 'I don't understand how, ' says Ahkmenrah, but even his voice is weakly. 'Perhaps I should sleep, for now. ' Kiya is disappointed, but she says, that's a good idea. Kiya picks up the wrappings from the ground, but the Jackals tell her that they will help him into it later. Kiya says she'll go, but Ahkmenrah takes her hand and asks her to stay. He says, it'll be like in the day, but he can actually respond. He asks her to climb into the sarcophagus. Kiya wonders if that is the best idea and Ahkmenrah says 'give me this one thing. I am feeling grim, after all. ' His eyebags are startling, but he's grinning. Kiya feels flush, and Ahkmenrah helps her inside. They sit hugging their legs and talk more. Kiya tells him about her college life to take him away from remembering what caused him such a headache, and stays there until Rebecca arrives with Larry. They say that Rebecca's going home already, and Larry insists that Rebecca go with him. Kiya can't object because she knows he's only trying to avoid what happened before. Ahkmenrah says all right, but before she leaves he holds her hand and says, I'll see you tomorrow, Kiya. Won't I? You will, says Kiya, a smile on her face, and she leaves him to follow Larry and Rebecca. She doesn't remember what they're talking about as Larry escorts her and Rebecca outside, and only vaguely remembers promising Nick she would come to his hockey game within the week with Nick and Rebecca.

When Larry is gone and they're going back home, Rebecca is smiling at Kiya. Kiya goes back to her senses and sees her with a goofy smile. She tells Rebecca she looks very happy. Rebecca says I was only mirroring the one on your face. Kiya touches her cheeks and realizes she has been smiling the whole time. Kiya says Oh. Oh no. I wasn't like this when I left…was I? Rebecca says the entire trip. I could've asked you for your life savings and you'd have handed them over in a heartbeat. Kiya groans and says 'this is impossible. I've only met him four times! Although it…' 'Feels like you've known him forever? ' asks Rebecca. Kiya says 'this is so typical. ' Rebecca says 'hey, it's fine…if you like dead people. ' 'Rebecca! ' Kiya whines. Rebecca laughs and says she's kidding. It's…cute. If you can find a way to bring him back to life without the tablet. Kiya says she's no Indiana Jones. She's doomed. And it's not like he likes her. Rebecca says he does seem to space out a bit. Kiya says he can't remember a part of his old life. But this is no problem. It's not like anything will come of it. Rebecca says that's what she thought about Larry. Kiya looks at her inquisitively. Rebecca grins and says okay, there was a little reason while I was imitating your smile. Larry asked me out on a date. An honest to goodness one. Without the excuse of wanting to talk about better museum protocols and all that. Kiya grins (secretly giving herself credit for having that talk with Larry) and says that's wonderful, Rebecca. When are you going out? Rebecca tells her tomorrow, before closing time. Kiya says she has to pass a paper then. Good luck to both of us. Rebecca hugs Kiya and says thank you, before leaving for her building which is already there. Kiya waves goodbye to her. As she walks home, she feels like someone is following her, but she ignores it and types up the last of her paper before going to sleep.

She dreams: Amunet is sitting in the garden alone when a man comes along. He's handsome and wiry, and one of the people who know her in the palace. Princess, he greets. Kiya understands that he is the Overseer of the Seal (the treasurer). It's good to see you. Runihura, she greets with a smile. He takes a seat beside her holding tablets and asks what she's doing here. Amunet says this is one of the places where she doesn't feel like a prisoner, so she likes it here. Runihura says you are not a prisoner. Amunet says because of the pretty clothes? She touches her hair. The wig? She scoffs. She says she doesn't wish to be ungrateful…but she doesn't think her father will ever let her marry. Or be a mistress of her own house. No, says Runihura. You will be married. I can assure you that. Amunet sighs and looks at him, asking, are you certain? At times I feel... Runihura says you will have your own house some day, he says, smiling. You have a bright future ahead of you. Unlike that ungrateful Heb…he spits. Dishonored the memory of your mother. Amunet frowns, standing up. She says he didn't know her mother… and she doesn't agree with what Heb did, but she would prefer simply not to speak of him. Runihura says very well, taking a step towards her, but Amunet takes a step back and says good day, Overseer. I do not wish to keep you from your tasks. With that, she flees.

*Saturday: Kiya wakes up with apprehension. She remembers the apprehension she felt when Heb was insulted, but she herself turned Heb away. She knows that Amunet loves Heb dearly, because it hurt when Runihura said those things about him. Runihura! She remembers the name! But she doesn't understand why Amunet's identity was kept such a secret if she was indeed a 'princess,' as they called her. In any case, her phone rings. It's Keith. He says he's leaving. Kiya says oh! Hello, Keith. Have a safe trip. Keith says thank you, and there is a long silence. He says If she ever comes to Egypt, give him a call. He'll be at the University. Kiya says it'll probably be a while before she can leave the country…but you are welcome here, too. She says she looks forward to reading about their findings. Keith says I'll be sure to tell you when they're published. There is a longer silence before Kiya says, well, goodbye. It was good to meet you, Keith. Keith breathes like he's smiling and says you too, Kiya. Goodbye. They say their goodbyes and Kiya puts down the phone.

She prepares for the day and cheers herself on about the paper. She sees Shaila on her way out and Shaila says you look happy. Kiya says she just finished a paper she's been working on for two weeks. She feels free. As she says it, she sighs. Shaila says suddenly you don't look like you feel free. Kiya says it's not that…but the research did help her make new friends. She won't get to hang out with them as much now without the excuse. Shaila laughs and says Am I missing something, or do you really need an excuse to hang out with friends? Kiya says no, I suppose not… Shaila narrows her eyes at her and says It's about a boy, isn't it. Kiya says no! Shaila bursts into laughter at her pinking cheeks. Even if her skin is bronze, Kiya is still blushing. Shaila says you're twenty-one, Kiya. It's okay to like a boy. Kiya says he's different…we're from completely different worlds. Shaila says he's not an escaped convict, is he? Kiya says no! She looks horrified, but remembers that this is Shaila's kind of humor. Shaila says so what's the problem? Kiya says For one, we hardly know each other, though each time we've spent time together it's been completely magical…I mean, really. Magical. And I don't know if he…likes me, too. Kiya feels extremely weird telling anybody about this, but telling Shaila…it seems to come naturally. It's almost like Shaila is supposed to know about this. Shaila lifts an eyebrow, saying, Magical? You've got it bad. Kiya groans. Shaila says hey, it's nothing to trouble about. He can't have spent that time with you if he didn't want to. Kiya says do you really think so? Shaila says yeah, sure. Anyway, I should go. Keep me posted, all right? Kiya says she will, and heads down to Professor Goedet to submit her project.

She goes to his office and overhears him on the phone with someone. He is talking to Kiya and Horem's mother. Kiya overhears him saying 'She's doing very well. She tells me her research is coming along wonderfully. Oh, is he? I don't expect him to. He has always kept to himself… Yes, you heard about the food poisoning? Terrible, that…no, I wasn't able to visit him, but he was in Sitre's good hands. Tey… He is fine.' Then, Goedet looks up from his seat and sees Kiya. He looks surprised at first, almost guilty, but it quickly turns into a smile. He waves her over and says into the phone, 'Kiya's here.' Since he acknowledged her, she gives him her research paper, and he says 'she wants to talk to you.' Kiya accepts the phone and says, hello? The person on the other line says, hello, dear. Kiya blinks. 'Mother? '

The scene shifts to Horem and Annie, who are together at the Museum. Annie asks what they're doing here and Horem says it's driving him crazy. Annie says you really can't leave it alone, can you? Horem says look, Kiya's not going to find us here. I'm sure she's giving her report to Professor Goedet right now, anyway. Annie says It's your call, really. In any case, we never got to explore here the last time. Horem and Annie go around the museum, and end up in the Egyptian section. Didn't get to explore this place last time, Horem says, scoffing at the hieroglyphics. These don't mean a thing. Annie says it's pretty, though. I always imagined Egyptian halls to look like this. Dark but beautiful. Horem says, yeah…he looks at the jackals and says, these look friendly. Annie says they're daunting…but they're for his protection. (She glances over at Ahkmenrah's sarcophagus.) Horem nods and goes to the sarcophagus at the end of the hall. He looks at it and Annie says I can't believe your grandfather found this. Sometimes I still get starstruck at the sight of him. Horem remembers how she was so nervous about first meeting his grandparents. When she actually met them she turned as red as her hair. Horem laughs and says yeah…this is so … vivid. Annie says of course it is. It's real. Horem says 'no, I mean I've got this vivid memory of…touching it before. Even the tablet.' Annie giggles and says well don't touch it. Horem says his mother must have taken him here before, but he doesn't remember. Like he watched the sarcophagus being painted itself, the brush strokes coloring sarcophagus. But it can't be.

They are interrupted by laughter coming into the gallery. It stops when Annie and Horem turn around to see a man and woman with dark hair, slightly older than them. Hello, says the woman. It's not often we see people in this part of the museum. Horem asks, Oh, you work here? 'Rebecca, ' says the woman, reaching out for a handshake. 'This is Larry.' Horem and Annie shake their hands and Horem introduces them. Larry tells Horem You look really familiar. Have we met somewhere? ' Horem says If you work here, maybe you've seen my sister around. She's been lurking around here for the past two weeks. Rebecca says You're Kiya's brother? Horem says She talks about me? Larry says, Not a lot. Annie says, You're friends with Kiya? Rebecca says Oh, yes! She's always here for research. Horem says 'I see…and it's just the two of you? I mean, her friends? ' Larry looks at him and asks, What do you mean? Horem says 'Uh…Well, you know my sister. She's not that…sociable…but she's been really happy lately. I guess I have you guys to thank for that. But I got the idea that she…' he trails off. The older adults look at him, prodding him on with a nod. Horem says That she was maybe dating someone. 'OH, ' says Larry, who clears his throat. Rebecca purses her lips. Annie stares at them, unable to make out their expressions. Does she or doesn't she? Annie wonders. It hurts a little to have them maybe know more than Horem and her, but she needs to know. So is there? asks Annie, softly, like she's afraid to know. Rebecca says Well…there was this one guy. But she didn't like him. Larry looks at her and says, Who's that? Rebecca shoots him a look. 'You know…I actually never got his name. ' Larry says 'OH. ' (really obvious) 'Right, I met him. Keith. He seemed interested in her for a while but she didn't care much about him. ' Horem says Seriously? He laughs. Nice, Kiya! I always knew my sister would be a heartbreaker. Annie says, Horem… Horem says Sorry. Nice to know she's wanted. So there's no one? Rebecca and Larry exchange looks and say Nope. Just us. Horem and Annie say 'oh, ' the latter in almost relief. Anyway, says Larry, we should get going. Rebecca says, Right. It was great to meet you both. You too, says Horem. By the way, he says, it'd probably be best if you didn't mention our meeting to Kiya. Larry lifts an eyebrow, but says all right. Rebecca says, Enjoy your stay at the museum! After exchanging the same sentiments, Horem and Annie watch the two leave.

Horem says 'Why am I not surprised that she makes good friends with old people? ' Annie bursts into laughter. 'They're not that old. ' Horem says, 'True. Still. ' He looks back at the sarcophagus and the tablet. 'Kinda disappointed she doesn't have a guy yet. ' Annie says 'Why? Aren't you relieved no one's going to get Kiya from us soon? ' Horem laughs and says 'I'm not her dad… it'd be great to see her happy. ' Annie says 'she seems very happy now. Some people are single and happy. Take Professor Goedet, for instance. ' Horem makes a sound with his throat and says 'Maybe. Hmm. ' Annie says, 'what? ' Horem says 'mom should be home from Salamis by now. ' Annie gasps, 'Salamis? ' Horem says 'You know mom. She has friends everywhere, so she'd get permission, even if in secret. ' He says 'Baba Zahi's birthday is coming up soon. I should give mom a call, ' he says as his phone rings.

Scene goes back to Goedet and Kiya. Kiya says 'Are you out of Salamis, then? ' A silence passes before Daphne replies, 'yes. Zahi, I presume. ' 'Yes, ' says Kiya. Daphne asks, 'how are you, dear? ' Kiya says 'I just passed Professor Goedet a research assignment. ' It feels odd, telling her something so trivial, just like when she was younger. They haven't done this in a long time, because Kiya has always felt like her mom resents her for even breathing sometimes. 'You've done well, I expect, ' says her mother. Kiya says 'always. ' Daphne says 'that is good to hear. ' Kiya doesn't know what to talk about. Kiya asks, 'did you get my Christmas gift? ' 'Yes, dear, ' says Daphne, then instantly changes the subject. 'Now…Zahi will be having a birthday soon. ' Always businesslike, that's mother, Kiya thinks. 'His 95th, ' says Daphne. 'I arranged the building already (the Guggenheim museum) the date. But we'll have to send invitations. Decide on designs. Goedet thinks a simple one should do. ' Kiya says she agrees, because ostentatious things have never been grandfather's way. Daphne says Indeed. Kiya says Is there anything else, mother? Daphne takes a deep breath over the phone and says 'Nothing, dear. Horem will phone soon. Try to be with him then. We can discuss who to invite. ' Kiya says 'all right then. Do you want to talk to Professor Goedet? ' 'All right, ' says Daphne. Kiya says '…I love you, mother, ' into the phone, before quickly handing it to Professor Goedet and just as swiftly leaving the room.

She dials Horem's number. 'Hey, ' Horem says when he picks up. 'I was just talking about you.' Kiya ignores him and says M…other is back. She wanted to talk to you. Horem asks 'Are you shaking? Kiya…' Kiya says 'I'm not. Really. But she said to be…to be there when you call her. So tell me when. ' Horem says '…yeah. Yeah, of course, sis. How about tomorrow, when we go out? ' Kiya says 'perfect. ' 'Perfect, ' repeats Horem. They bid each other goodbye. Kiya calms down and now feels extremely silly for saying she loves her mother, but she hasn't said it since before her university years. It feels good to have let it out though. And she's glad her mother's safe. At any rate, she needs to research more on Heb, so she goes to her longtime friend, the library. There she learns that Heb attempted to deface all of Kahmunrah's tombs (apparently to disrespect his memory, because he left enough to leave evidence of Kahmunrah's identity) but preserved Ahkmenrah's beautifully. It is generally known that Ahkmenrah named Heb his successor. But what Kiya doesn't get is how Heb could have returned from running away. And what did Amunet have to do with it? If only Ahkmenrah could remember… She stays there until before sundown and goes to the museum, where Rebecca and Larry are. Nick is there, too. He asks where she's been and she says sorry, I was at the library. Why? Nick says I need your help with something. Follow me. (He needs her help setting up for his dad's date.)

PLEASE READ: Okay so that's all I really had for stuff I had to flesh out. The rest was a general thing I had swirling in my head but didn't want to hammer the details down on yet, so from here on out the story will be presented in broad strokes, or at least not as detailed as above like showing the possible dialogue. If you're still reading, wow! Thanks for putting up with my walls of text.

The date goes well and throughout the story, Rebecca and Nick grow closer as an actual couple. Nick, Kiya, and Ahkmenrah ensure this, and have regular high-fives. Nick believes his dad should be happy the way his mom is with his stepdad, and he likes Rebecca. Kiya and Ahkmenrah grow closer, too, with Kiya telling Ahkmenrah everything about the modern world while Ahkmenrah tells her what he can remember about what life was like when he lived, though only in general details, correcting certain misconceptions. Kiya doesn't come close to the really personal topics again so that Ahkmenrah doesn't have those 'attacks' that he had when she asked before, even if she really wants to know. She also does not understand why Ahkmenrah wants to hear about the modern world, while Ahkmenrah doesn't understand why he wouldn't be, especially when someone as engaging as Kiya is in his new world. He sometimes misses his old life, but since he doesn't remember much of it, it doesn't really bother him anymore.

Meanwhile, Kiya and Horem get together to talk to their mom Daphne Ganzouri about Baba Zahi's birthday party in the Guggenheim. Big names are coming, so it has to be perfect, and Annie does most of the heavy lifting preparing for the party (Kiya and Horem suck). Kiya is awkward in the conversations with their mother, but she is braver when she's with Horem and discusses details professionally. It is clear that Daphne's warmth is reserved for Horem, and while she's not angry with Kiya as Kiya believes, Horem is simply Daphne's favorite child. They talk to the museum and since Baba Zahi is the one who found Ahkmenrah, it has been agreed that the tablet, the sarcophagus, and the jackals will be brought to the Guggenheim for the party. Kiya had earlier suggested having the party in the National Museum of History instead, but Daphne wants the Guggenheim for a sleeker look (or something) and so that's the plan.

PLEASE READ: Now is when I start playing around with the magic surrounding the tablet and exactly how it works. Honestly, the filmmakers just kept adding random stuff to its abilities so I will too. So FOR THIS FIC, the powers of the tablet work like this - when the sun sets, the tablet brings something to life once the sun sets and the tablet's squares are in place. Even if someone pushes a tablet out of place, whatever has been brought to life will stay alive until the sun rises again, BUT nothing else will come to life. Remember that in the next part of the story. Sorry if you think it's a cheap trick...that's just how I made it work in this fic.

The first part of the story comes to a head at Zahi Ganzouri, Sr.'s birthday. Larry and Rebecca are invited by Kiya, and Larry is there because what they did is: they let the sun set inside the Museum of Natural History with the tablet in it so that everyone could enjoy being alive that night even if the tablet was out, and then one of the tablet squares was tilted so that it wouldn't bring anything else to life in the Guggenheim. Ahkmenrah's sarcophagus and his jackals were already transported the night before, but since the tablet is very important, it was agreed that it would not be transported until that very night. Ahkmenrah is brought to the museum by Larry (outside the coffin, he stayed behind in another container to come to life while his sarcophagus was moved) so he can hang out with Kiya at the party, and they even get him clothes. (Rebecca helped him get clothes at some point, as in she bought them for him etc.) There's a whole program, and Kiya enjoys it with Annie and Horem, reinforcing her close friendship with them. Shaila and Naveen are also there, since Shaila's parents turn out to be good friends with Daphne, who invited them (Shaila took Naveen along since Horem found out about the connection and invited him), and Naveen realizes why Kiya looked familiar. After the program, Kiya doesn't like the attention for being Baba Zahi's granddaughter so she goes up to the roof away from the party/the mingling, and someone finds her – it's Ahkmenrah, who didn't tell her he'd be coming that night. He says Larry, Rebecca, Nick, Teddy and Sacagawea (who has been learning recent styles) and the others helped him set up here. She's glad for the company, or at least his company. Ahkmenrah says he isn't surprised at how pretty she looks, despite how Kiya says the dress and being done up doesn't feel like her. Ahkmenrah is very flattered when she says he looks good in modern clothes, but tries not to show it. They share a companionable silence as they look up at the stars, and Ahkmenrah mentions that he always liked looking up at them from the palace, because they reminded him that there were mysteries in the world not even a Pharaoh could solve, and that made him feel small and grounded him.

Kiya smiles at that as she continues to watch the stars, and eventually turns to him – he has been looking at her. (Cue music – I used to imagine Saltwater Room with this scene, but now I imagine Ma Belle Evangeline from Disney's The Princess and the Frog playing; I wonder what you'd imagine? I'd love to hear it.) Of course, his gaze takes her breath away – she feels like he really sees her, and her heart is hammering in her chest. She notices him gulp, and he opens his mouth but he doesn't say anything because Ahkmenrah is just as nervous as she is. He notices that she notices, and smiles as a save. He says, I'm sorry. I know it's rude to stare – but I… Kiya doesn't say anything, only encouraging him with a hopeful look. He says, I remember sharing this sight with someone. I don't remember who it was…but I imagine it could have been you. Kiya is shaking with how much she has grown to care for him and how sweet and romantic he is (this isn't what I was actually going to type but you know what I mean). She says 'I've never had anyone to share anything with – well,' she laughs, 'maybe a room with Horem.' She chuckles sheepishly and is panicking like WHAT AM I SAYING I'M SUCH AN IDIOT type of thing and Ahkmenrah grins in amusement, knowing how she is – and he finds it charming. He looks down at her lips, and she sees it, and he sees that… So they kiss. It's a chaste one that's a long time coming, but when they rise from it they're both breathless and smiling. Ahkmenrah tucks her hair behind her ear and says I would ask for a dance. I've read that it is customary in occasions like this. Kiya tries to say she can't really dance, but Ahkmenrah starts to dance by himself, pretending she's in his arms, and says that she wouldn't want him to make a fool out of himself tonight, does she? Kiya laughs and giggles and agrees to do it, so they dance a little before deciding they should probably go downstairs.

Meanwhile, a letter has come in for the Guggenheim Museum. It's for Kiya, but it doesn't say so. All it says is it's 'For the woman who brought this all together.' Someone receives it and gives it to Annie, since Annie helped Kiya out a lot in preparing for the party. Annie looks at it curiously and looks for Kiya so they can open it together along with Kiya and Horem's mom, since the three of them arranged things, but Kiya and Ahkmenrah are just returning from the rooftop, the two of them buzzing from excitement with each other Annie reads the note, which says the tablet reveals all truths. Annie goes to the tablet and inspects it, but it still doesn't make any sense to her. Surprisingly enough, one of the squares are overturned. The letter also says, perfect the tablet and speak quickly before Anubis finds you. Annie blinks and turns the square back to its position. Horem is walking around, getting dragged by his mom's friends who want to see how he's been doing. He wishes Kiya were here to suffer for the same thing. Still, he goes to escape another person, hoping to catch Annie soon, when someone bumps into him. He says Oh, sorry, but the person is smiling like they expected to be bumped into. Horem says again, Oh, sorry. Uh— He stops himself and thinks that the person seems very familiar, but he's pretty sure they've never met before. It's that annoying feeling again. Horem laughs embarrassedly and says I'm sorry, we've met, haven't we? The older man says Oh, no, sorry. But I was a big fan of your father, he says. Horem says 'Really? That's, uh, great.' Considering he's dead, Horem thinks, and this is my grandfather's birthday party. Sorry, I'm Horem. You are…? Suddenly, someone screams.

The man looks to the direction of the screaming and so does Horem. He leaves the man to go find Annie. Larry, walking around the museum with Rebecca (Kiya invited him and Rebecca, but she didn't know about Ahkmenrah), notices that beside them someone says she saw that painting blink. Another old woman faints because one of the paintings is narrowing his eyes at her. Rebecca and Larry look at each other, alarmed, and run back to where the tablet is. There they find Annie speaking the words quickly. To Larry's surprise, the jackals' heads are turned at her, but they don't seem to be attacking her. What in the world is she doing? Rebecca asks. Suddenly, Annie holds her head. She starts crying out and holding her eyes. The jackals snarl and start advancing toward her. People start screaming because the jackals are moving. Horem runs to her. Larry is telling the jackals to back off. (He learned the word from Ahkmenrah just in case.) The jackals obey, and while Rebecca tries to calm Annie down, Larry flips the switch out to turn the tablet off before the magic spreads anywhere else. The jackals are still alive, but realize that they shouldn't be acting this way and stop. Kiya's mom says what the hell happened? Kiya and Ahkmenrah run down, having seen the commotion. What happened? They ask. Horem says What were those jackals? Larry says Those were…Rebecca says Defense mechanisms. The jackals are built with highly advanced technology that boots them up if the tablet is touched, and when Annie touched the tablet it activated. They wouldn't have hurt her, only surrounded her. Horem asks Annie if she's all right. Annie calls Horem 'Heb' repeatedly, but nobody hears her over their own worry (Horem does, but he doesn't remember till later that she called him Heb), since she has fainted. Rebecca says she found –this- (a letter) in Annie's hand when she was…panicking. Rebecca gives the letter to Kiya.

Ahkmenrah looks at it and says what a peculiar letter. Horem snatches it from him, and Goedet snatches it from him. Goedet frowns and says aloud, Who gave this to Miss Lennon? (Nobody knows.) Daphne and Goedet seem to be speaking in hushed tones while Goedet tells Kiya to handle the crowd. Ahkmenrah does this by announcing that it was nothing, 'Miss Annie has only had a fainting spell. Rest assured you are all safe.' Larry also says that the paintings were replaced for the party and that it's actually a surprise that Annie didn't take well to. The party goes back in order while Kiya asks what her mom and Goedet are discussing. They say It's nothing. Horem angrily says it's not nothing if it got Annie into a fainting spell. Daphne asks if Annie have a history of fainting spells, because she can't see why a letter would cause such a thing. 'Right, Goedet?' Goedet agrees and they dismiss what happened. Horem snatches the letter and reads the ancient Egyptian words aloud but nothing happens (because the tablet isn't in place). Horem growls and says he wants that scanned for fingerprints, but Larry says everyone's gotten theirs all over it. Horem says Please. I need to make sure. Larry says all right, he has a friend somewhere, but it might take a while. Horem says it's fine as long as I get the information. Goedet says it's fine, I'll take it to the station myself. I have a few friends there. Larry says all right then and hands him the letter. Annie wakes after a while but doesn't remember having the convulsions at all. The last thing she recalls is getting the letter, getting bloated with something like she was going to explode (information from her past life), then waking up. It was a bad dream. Ahkmenrah says who could have done this? Goedet looks away.

Everyone then realizes that Ahkmenrah is there. Horem says Who the hell are you? Ahkmenrah blinks and frowns at his attitude, but knows not to announce himself the way he did before. Larry and Kiya are trying to come up with names, all starting with Ah- or Muh- or Rah-. Kiya ends up spitting out, 'Rami.' Horem says, 'Ramy, your pen pal?' Kiya says No no, another Rami! Obviously, Rami here is a guy, she says, and awkwardly introduces him to everyone. Goedet and Daphne stare at Ahkmenrah for a long time before glancing at each other, but nobody notices because Larry says Yes, Rami is a regular at the museum too. Ahkmenrah nods, playing along and saying he is also Egyptian and studied at Cambridge. Kiya's eyes widen since that's too easily verifiable by Daphne and Goedet, who have friends everywhere, and obviously because Daphne teaches in Cambridge. Kiya says Oh, but he studied, um…History. In general. Right? She nudges Ahkmenrah, who nods and says to Daphne It's an honor to meet you, Professor Ganzouri. Kiya is surprised that he remembers her mentioning at some point that her mother taught at Cambridge. Daphne simply nods and says the pleasure is hers. She looks awfully suspicious of him and says Yes, I'm certain you were never my student. Ahkmenrah shakes his head and says Sadly, no, I was unable to take any of your classes. Goedet is silent and the party goes on. Horem tries to give Ahmenrah the third degree (because Kiya never mentioned him) but Rebecca successfully deflects and says she should go, and Ahkmenrah lives near her place so they should get a cab together. Ahkmenrah agrees, and tells Horem to tell his grandfather happy birthday. Daphne appears and says he can tell him that himself. Baba Zahi and Mama Kiya appear, having been preoccupied when the commotion happened, and similarly stare at Ahkmenrah. Baba Zahi looks overjoyed and says they have heard so much about him. Mama Kiya sees Kiya's horrified look (Goedet was telling them about him, clearly) and saves by saying that they're always happy to meet their grandchildren's friends. Horem pointedly says they haven't really gotten to know each other yet, and Annie nudges him to chill out. Eventually, Ahkmenrah is able to escape without Horem and Annie being the wiser about who he is and leaves with Rebecca. Larry stays to make sure nothing else happens, while Horem and Annie agree to have her checked up at the hospital the next day. Kiya hangs out with them and Shaila and Naveen for the rest of the night, while Daphne and Professor Goedet sit together and chat in hushed tones again until everyone goes home.

Things start looking up. Kiya is close with her family again, though she says she's too shy to bring "Rami" into the fold and asks them to wait a while (since Horem is bound to give the third degree and they need to work on his backstory). Professor Goedet does not join the insisting, and Daphne eventually leaves for England again (she and Kiya aren't really that much closer, but it's clear that Daphne and Goedet have some sort of mutual understanding that the two of them care for each other as more than friends). Kiya also continues to be pen pals with Ramy. Kiya tells Ramy about finding Ahkmenrah, and Ramy takes a long time to reply to Kiya to say 'I'm happy for you.'

We also discover (somehow) the reason between the interactions in the Ganzouri family. Daphne and Zahi Ganzouri, Jr. fell in love and had twins in their late twenties, when Daphne seemed sure that she loved Zahi Jr. Zahi felt it as much, but when the twins were born and they entered their thirties, there was an obvious favoritism for Kiya. He also loved Horem, but he was distant, though he tried his best to treat them equally. Eventually there was an incident when Zahi tried to kill Horem, because he felt seething hatred for the boy. There was contempt for Kiya, too, but hope. The family stayed together despite this and went to a dig once and brought the kids. There was a cave-in, and while Daphne and Kiya got out easily, Zahi Jr. sacrificed his life to save Horem. Daphne compensates for the incident with Zahi Jr. by favoring Horem, who still remembers his own father's attempt on his life, and does not resent but merely forgets Kiya.

Clearly, the relationship between Ahkmenrah and Kiya continues to bloom. They don't really think about the future – or about how Ahkmenrah can only be with her at night, but they do go on dates and Ahkmenrah is able to experience the modern world with Kiya, and while Kiya grows to appreciate it too, she still wants to learn about the past. They grow together learning more about the present and the past, with Kiya continuing to have dreams about Amunet. In her dreams, bits and pieces of Amunet's life are revealed, but never completely. I'll give you most of it though now. Amunet is Heb's sister. Amunet and Heb were the children of Kahmunrah with a woman of low birth (I'm sorry, guys. Incest was a thing in Ancient Egypt. At least they're not related now! I toyed with the idea of Heb and Amunet being children of another man but Kahmunrah loved her and took them in, but the Ancient Egyptians wouldn't have found incest unnatural so of all the realistic things yes this is what I chose to implement; sorry friends), so Kahmunrah and Ahkmenrah's parents did not consider them as being in line for the throne and cared little for Heb, but treated Amunet like the daughter they never had. Still, Ahkmenrah was the favorite child since the parents hoped he wouldn't make the mistake of choosing a woman of low birth the way Kahmunrah did; not to mention Kahmunrah had quite a temper while Ahkmenrah was calmer, more patient, though naïve, and Ahkmenrah was given the crown to rule even at a young age. So the situation was: Everyone except Ahkmenrah knew about Amunet's existence. Amunet knew that her existence was supposed to be a secret, but she didn't really understand why. The palaces were big, so it wasn't a difficult thing to keep Ahkmenrah and Amunet apart. But Amunet knew of Ahkmenrah and admired him from afar, and began to write him letters talking about the state of affairs in Egypt, and Ahkmenrah oddly enough wrote back because they shared similar sentiments. So they fell in love that way through the help of Kesi and Sadiki. Meanwhile, Heb continued to try to communicate with Amunet and get her out of the palace because he knew their father Kahmunrah (the one he was talking about in a past chapter) would try to use Amunet as a pawn in some way, but Amunet was naïve too. She resented Heb because Heb's existence was acknowledged before Ahkmenrah and so they became best friends, appointing him as a commander and his eventual successor. But what happened was Heb fell in love with a foreign woman, one clearly of low birth as well – and Kahmunrah didn't want that. Neither did the grandparents who were still alive. So while Ahkmenrah argued for Heb's case, Kahmunrah was so against it that Heb feared for his lover's life and left the palace to be with the woman. (There was also a recurring character in her dreams – Runihura, the overseer who worked for Kahmunrah.) Kiya tries to bring this up with Ahkmenrah, but there are holes in his memory and he can't figure them out, only crying out and having the 'attacks' when he tries to remember.

After a while, Annie may fall ill. Either way, Goedet is actively searching for who did it to her (though it seems to the others and to the readers that he may have done it himself because he has been acting suspicious). By this time Keith is back in Manhattan for some reason and has asked to see Kiya. He asks her if he has a chance, but Kiya tells him that she is in love with someone else. (This chapter ends with a cliffhanger, with Horem calling up the police station to ask if they have any fingerprints. They say didn't Goedet tell him? They released it weeks ago, but it's an Egyptian with a clean record. Doesn't seem like the words would cause any harm, either, so they can't get him. But he is in the country. Horem frowns and leaves for Goedet's office, wanting to know why the hell Goedet hasn't told him anything. He also calls up Kiya, saying she may want to hear this. They meet up at Goedet's office, where the secretary shows them the messages she took because Goedet hasn't been at the office. There's a message for Goedet to meet someone in some address, but the only name he left was "R," and the secretary says that Goedet seemed to know who it was, because he was in a hurry to go. Horem tells Kiya to go to Goedet's place in case Goedet's going there while he goes to the address. Kiya says what if it's dangerous? Horem says I'll be fine. For some reason, Kiya knows he will be. She tries to call the police, the friend of Goedet who gave Horem the report, but they won't patch her through. So she calls Larry's cellphone, but Ahkmenrah answers the phone. He says Larry is in the diorama area with Rebecca.

Kiya tells him to ask Larry to go to the police station, because she's going to Goedet's house and Goedet may be in danger. Ahkmenrah asks where she is. If she's in danger—Kiya says I don't know who's in danger right now. Just tell Larry, Ahkmenrah. Hurry! Meanwhile, Goedet has arranged to meet up with "R," and though he doesn't know who he is, he has a feeling. Goedet enters his own house, thinking he's certainly not going there. Only a fool would. Besides, this person is so desperate that he will certainly come to them if he waits him out long enough. So he stays in his house and sees someone there. He spits, "Runihura…!" Next chapter. Runihura, the Overseer loyal to Kahmunrah mentioned earlier, is Keith. Keith grins and says How did you know? Goedet says He never played the fool; now is not the time to start. Keith says you always could see through me, old man. I wonder what Kahmunrah would say to you touching his wife. Goedet says Zahi (Ganzouri, Jr.; Horem and Kiya's father who was the 'reincarnation' of Kahmunrah) was a good man, and the part of him that was Kahmunrah ate him alive. He knew it. It was why he allowed himself to die, because he knew he couldn't control so much evil in his soul. "It was your doing." Keith smirks and says it matters little. How did it feel, practically raising the man who killed you? Goedet says "your attempt at mind games is pitiable. The arrow in my heart was meant for you – and it found you, eventually. How did it feel, to see him so happy? In the end it was Heb who inherited the throne. As it should have been." (They're talking about events in their past life.) Keith says "Perhaps, but the hole in his [Heb's] heart that resulted from your death. He'll live to see history repeat itself here. Goedet says 'he'll find us, you know.' 'Oh, I've made sure of it,' says Keith. Goedet says "and Kiya? She'll never forgive you. You may have your revenge but you'll never have her!" Keith says "I will be there to console her when her brother murders their only father-figure in an angry fit about his mother's relationship with him, and subsequently kills himself out of guilt. The poor woman will be devastated."

Goedet says "She and His Highness won't let you do it. They will always discover the truth." Keith says mockingly, "King Ahkmenrah the amnesiac? Ha! His mind is empty. Severing his head will be an easier task, and killing his other half will be just as unchallenging. It will hardly even please me to kill something so pathetic. And before you ask…I've found her. I've found Amunet's body. Kiya will never remember anything, not really. She must believe all I tell her." Goedet says Keith is relentless. Keith says he tends to think of that as an asset. Suddenly, Goedet's doorbell rings. Keith smiles and sighs as if content. Goedet thinks he's really crazy. (lol I wrote this a while back) Professor! Kiya's voice rings. Keith's smirk drops. No, he mutters. Outside, Ahkmenrah says Why don't you call Horem? (Ahkmenrah had come earlier in Larry's place. Kiya wanted to protest, but the truth is Kiya was so relieved to see him there and allowed him to accompany her to Goedet's place.) Kiya tries, but Horem's not answering. The signal in that address is probably terrible. She's scared, but nobody's answering. Perhaps Horem's in danger. Ahkmenrah attempts to open the door and it already is. Ahkmenrah goes to the left and Kiya takes the right in Professor Goedet's big house. She sees Goedet gagged and tied to a chair, alone, and attempts to ungag him (he is unconscious), when Keith arrives. She asks him what he's doing there. Keith says "I was so worried!" He claims that Horem called him and said Kiya wasn't answering her phone, and that he was going to Goedet's place. Keith says he was in the area so he went. What happened to Professor Goedet!? Kiya says she doesn't know, and that he was like this when she arrived. Keith says let's untie the professor. He takes out a knife and attempts to cut through Goedet's wrist ropes. It's dark, but there's a bit of light outside and she sees that there's blood on the side of Keith's head, above his hair/ear. She points it out, saying Keith, why is there…blood on your head? Keith blinks. He says, oh, this? I…

Kiya takes a step back from him. Without taking her eyes off him, she calls out, Ahkmenrah? Ahkmenrah? Keith says "who are you calling, Kiya? Listen, this blood, it's only…" Something staggers into the room. It's Ahkmenrah with a stab wound (it's damaged his ribs but doesn't kill him). She gasps and tries to go to him, but Keith shouts Not another step! Keith has the knife to Goedet, who is slowly regaining consciousness. Kiya says Keith, why…? Keith says You would choose this strange man over the man who raised you? Do you love him so much? Kiya says Keith, please, put the professor down. What do you want? Keith says what have I always wanted? You… he looks pleadingly at her. (Runihura was obsessed with Amunet.) Kiya stares at him, wondering what to say. She always thought they were friends. Kiya looks at Ahkmenrah and Keith yells, Stop looking at him! He starts getting crazy now, saying that her eyes were always only for him (Ahkmenrah), weren't they? Even when she remembers nothing about him she still falls for this worthless King! Kiya says Keith, calm down… Keith says I relived the horrors of this life for you! And this is what you do? He looks at Ahkmenrah and says I'm going to kill him. Kiya says Even if you kill him, I will never be yours! I would rather die! You're insane! Keith says Such powerful words. Your wish has always been my command, your highness. He lunges at her.

Kiya gasps but dodges. He genuinely tries to stab her, and overpowers her when she tries to push the knife back. When she can no longer fight back, having fallen while running away and hitting her head on the counter (…this has become a slasher flick, clearly, so no one can keep their balance), she slips from beside him. Keith hits his head on the counter. She kicks him and steps on his back and tries to look for a weapon, realizing they just passed the kitchen when she ran from him. She tries to go back, but Keith grabs her foot and pulls her down. She nearly knocks her teeth out, but her arms prevent her from hitting her head on the floor. She tries to crawl away but he grabs her, nearly plunging a knife into her calf. She kicks him and runs off but Keith grabs her, arms around her neck, and says She was always running away. Perhaps she's right. If he can't have her in this world, they will be together in the netherworld. Kiya grunts "Nowhere will you have me!" She bites him and he releases her. He tries to stab her but she slips out from under him again and grabs the knife, sticking it in his shoulder/stomach/somewhere to incapacitate him for the time being because he won't get up like a crazy slasher killer. Kiya leaves him and goes to Ahkmenrah and Goedet. Goedet is awake and is ungagged by Kiya. Ahkmenrah is alive and Goedet embraces him saying, Bless you, boy! Kiya says What? Goedet says nothing and asks if he's all right. Ahkmenrah says Are you? Goedet only laughs. Cut to summary where Kiya doesn't understand why Goedet was so glad to see Ahkmenrah, having only known him during her Baba Zahi's party, but he was probably delusional, since after that he didn't talk much to Ahkmenrah, handling the authorities. Keith was gone when they looked. The police are still hunting him down, but they're certain that with his wound he won't be going after them soon.

Later Horem arrives and asks what the hell happened, there was nothing there. It was an abandoned factory. Are you all right? For the nth time, Kiya says yes. Horem turns to Ahkmenrah, wondering why he's there and looking worried at his wounds), but Ahkmenrah smiles and says he's fine. Horem says lemme look at that. Goedet pulls Kiya away while Horem looks at it and says you'll be fine. Why do I feel really relieved about that? Ahkmenrah says Because I aided your sister and you hope I wasn't involved in the crossfire? Horem grins and says Don't flatter yourself. But…yeah. Maybe. You know, I … forgot your name. What was it again? Ahkmenrah looks around and says Ahkm… (he coughs pretending he was just clearing his throat) Rami. Horem says nice to finally, properly meet you. So you're the one my sister's secretly dating, huh? Ahkmenrah says Honestly that he doesn't understand the concept of dating. He certainly wishes he could ask for her hand in marriage someday… (he thinks, sadly, if he wasn't living a half-life.) Horem says whoa, whoa! Thinking a little too far ahead there. My sister doesn't know this, does she? Ahkmenrah says no, Larry says it's inadvisable to – what is your term? – lay all my cards down. Horem laughs and says you're honest, at least. I never got to ask – where from England are you? Ahkmenrah says he had a brief stint in Cambridge. Horem says Right, I remember that. How long? Your accent's pretty genuine if you only stayed there a few years. He reverts to his English accent – I have one, too, actually. Just speak with the American one to blend in. Ahkmenrah says Well…for a long time. Horem says Oh, were you the kid of a professor? Maybe we knew each other as children! Ahkmenrah says he doubts it. When he was a child, he was quite the recluse. Horem says Oh, that's too bad. Would've been funny if we did know each other. But hey, my sis knows you now. Better you than that lunatic on the loose. Ahkmenrah blinks at that backhanded compliment and says thank you, I …suppose I appreciate that.

Goedet butts in and says they're all free to go. Horem says he'll walk his sister to her dorm. Ahkmenrah says he'll do the same. Kiya says it's fine. Horem says no way, as your brother, I've got the right to go. And Rami can come, too. Since you're dating and all. Kiya gasps. Horem says yeah, at least Rami's honest. Kiya thinks now he's going to keep teasing her, but this was inevitable when Ahkmenrah came to Baba Zahi's party anyway. They bring her home. (Later, Keith returns in the 2nd movie to assist Kahmunrah. He's the one who's been working to get the museum to replace the museum pieces so that the tablet will be moved to the Smithsonian, especially since Larry got his big break thanks to professor Goedet.)

That's it for now! It's like, 3am here and I gotta sleep. Pretty sure I missed some developments and forgot to mention how some characters fit into the plot but that's basically it. OH RIGHT NOW I REMEMBER. THE REINCARNATIONS. Like, how do they work? How can Kahmunrah be resurrected but still have his corpse in the Smithsonian? What did Keith mean when he said he found Amunet? Ahkmenrah's 'other half'? That'll be answered next week on The Missing Piece!

Just kidding, I'll let you know right now before we go into what happens in the story leading up to Night at the Museum 2 and after. How reincarnation works here is there's a reincarnation incantation/spell using the tablet. It has to be completed so that the soul and the memories of the person go forward into the future. If a person is completely reincarnated, their corpse cannot come back to life even with the tablet. If the spell is interrupted and the soul and memories are not completely reincarnated, something remains with the corpse while part of it goes forward and is reincarnated, but only parts of it. This means that, as an example, Kahmunrah was not completely reincarnated. His memories and hatred remained with his corpse and his soul partly moved on to become Zahi Ganzouri, Jr., who remembered only his love for Daphne (the full reincarnation of the lowborn wife) and part of his inexplicable hatred for Horem/Heb. Also! If you're fully reincarnated, your appearance changes. You don't look like your past self. If you are NOT fully reincarnated, you still look like your past self. Why? Magic.

Here is a table of the reincarnations, and then how they were reincarnated:

Past Persona = Future Reincarnation
Prince/King Kahmunrah = Zahi Ganzouri, Jr.
Tey, Kahmunrah's lowborn lover and mother of his children = Daphne Ganzouri
Prince/King Ahkmenrah = ?
Princess/Queen Amunet = Kiya Ganzouri (younger, granddaughter)
Prince/King Heb = Horem Ganzouri
Queen Amenia = Anneliese Lennon
Prince/King Paramessu/Ramesses = Zahi Ganzouri, Sr.
Queen Tia/Sitre = Kiya Eid-Ganzouri (older, grandmother)
Kesi = possibly Shaila O' Connor (I say 'possibly' because these are other people's characters, not mine)
Sadiki = possibly Naveen Sitaram (I say 'possibly' because these are other people's characters, not mine)
Awan = Professor Goedet
Runihura, overseer of the treasury/seal = Keith Kashani

Order of death:
Tey
, died of sickness-successfully reincarnated by Kahmunrah;
Ahkmenrah, murdered by Runihura and Kahmunrah - Amunet performed the reincarnation spell on him HALF, because Runihura and Kahmunrah took her away before she could finish;
Amunet, killed by Kahmunrah when she attempted to murder him - Runihura performed the reincarnation spell on her HALF, because Heb arrived and attacked Runihura. Heb was driven away, but the reincarnation spell was incomplete already;
Kahmunrah, died when Heb arrived at the palace and killed him himself - Runihura had his body stolen away and forced Awan to perform the reincarnation spell on him, but was stopped when Heb found out; Heb fired an arrow for Runihura but killed Awan by accident, and then killed Runihura, too;
Awan, accidentally killed by Heb - Kesi performed the reincarnation spell on him when Heb gave her his body;
Runihura, died when Heb killed him - his loyal priests took him away and successfully performed the spell on him;
Heb and Amenia died of old age - their son Paramessu sucessfully reincarnated them both;
Kesi and Sadiki died of old age - their children succesfully reincarnated them, but they chose to forget the past; (if character owners agree)
Paramessu and Tia, died of old age-their son, Set, successfully reincarnated them.
