To Love-Familiar
Chapter 9
Louise is laying under the covers of her bed in the dark thinking about what Montmorency had said to her earlier in the day, Louise, that Familiar of your's, he maybe a peasant but he's surprisingly wise. You should take extra care of him. "What did she mean by that?" She asks herself in a low voice. She then hears the door crack open and light from the hall peek through. She turns to see Rito leaving, "Where is he going?" She asks sitting up as the door closes.
Rito makes his way down to the kitchen. He enters to find Marteau shouting at a young man washing the dishes, "Put your back into it, man!"
"Yes, sir." He calls back picking up the pace.
"Mr. Marteau, what's going on?" Rito asks.
Marteau turns to look at Rito, "Oh, hello Rito. We seem to be a little under staffed tonight, so I haven't had time to prepare your meal tonight, sorry." He says gesturing to the one man on staff.
Rito looks at the man then back at Marteau, "I'll be happy to help in anyway I can, Mr. Marteau." Rito says stepping forward.
Marteau smiles and places his firm hands on Rito's shoulders, "Your a good man Rito and I'm glad to know you. It would make me happy if you'd let me kiss you." He says then closes his eyes and leans in puckering his lips.
Rito covers Marteau's mouth with his hand, "Please don't." Rito says pushing him away. He then walks over to the man and starts helping. Unaware he is being watched by Louise from behind the kitchen door, but after a few minutes she leaves.
Rito spends the next hour washing, drying, and putting away dishes as well as sweeping and mopping the floor.
Afterwords the three are sitting at the table eating a meal Marteau had prepared, "Mr. Rito, I was wondering something." Rito's fellow dish washer speaks up.
"What is it?" Rito asks setting down his utensil.
"What are the nobles like where you're from?" He asks.
Rito thinks for a moment, "There aren't that many nobles where I lived. By the mage's standards, there aren't any as no one can use magic where I'm from. If there are, they'd keep it a secret." Rito says then takes a bite of his food, "But there are nobles, don't be mistaken."
"How can you tell they are nobles if none of them can't use magic?" Marteau asks.
"Mainly wealth. There's one noble I know personally, she's an upper classmate at the school I went to." Rito says, "She lives in a large mansion surrounded by a forest and gardens enclosed inside a fenced gate. And like the nobles here she prides herself in everything she does, a self-proclaimed 'Queen' of all things."
Marteau and his underling look at each other, "Yeah, that sounds like a noble." He says looking back at Rito.
"Yes, but deep down she's a good person. She treats her servants with respect and calls them her friends and would do what ever she could for them when they need it." Rito says with a smile while taking another bite.
"I wish the nobles here where like that." Marteau says with a light smile.
They finish their meal in silence and Rito takes care of the dishes.
"Good night, Mr. Marteau. I'll see you in the morning." Rito says as he leaves.
"Good night, our Sword." They say together.
Rito enters Louise's room as quietly as he can, lays down on his bed of hay, and falls asleep.
Louise turns over and leans to get a look at her familiar, What's so special about him, he's just a peasant? She asks herself as she turns back over and goes to sleep.
A/N Okay, that's chapter nine, sorry it's so short, again I'd like to thank those who reviewed the last chapter they really encouraged me to update this and I hope you'll look forward to the next two chapters as they're not going to be canonish, if that is even a word, and it may take a bit longer for me to write them. Fav/Follow if you want, but leave a review with your thoughts and opinions.
