Chapter 7: All Play and No Worry Makes Jack a Dead Boy

"Jaune…" Pyrrha said as her heart skipped a beat. Jaune's still drowsy eyes looked at her, a small smile on his face.

"Looks like I'm still around, huh?" He said, "What did I-". He didn't get to finish because Pyrrha had practically thrown herself on him. Jaune winced, but said nothing as she hugged him.

"I was worried you wouldn't wake up…" Pyrrha said as she calmed down a bit, but tears still slipped through.

Jaune had never seen Pyrrha like this. She was always strong and composed. Now because he had gotten hurt she was weak and upset. "It's alright Pyrrha, I'm okay, nothing bad is going to happen to me." He said, lying a little. He knew that at any time in their fight against New Moon he could die, but despite knowing that Pyrrha had this information, he continued on trying to calm her and convince her that everything was alright.

"Jaune, I need to tell you something. I…" Pyrrha said blushing, "I love you", before kissing Jaune on the lips. At first, Jaune froze up, but when he realized what was going on, he quickly began to kiss back.

"I love you too Pyrrha", Jaune said once they were separated. "I'm sorry for worrying you", he said while hugging her.

"You don't have to say sorry Jaune", Pyrrha said, "I'm just glad you're okay."

[At Beacon Academy]

"Is everything in place Bartholomew?" Ozpin asked his staff from his office chair.

"Yes Sir, all the cameras are in place. Everywhere inside and outside the school is being monitored, and all the students have been told of the school's lockdown effective tomorrow night, and all teams except teams RWBY and JNPR currently reside in the building or on the grounds." Bartholomew told him.

"Good", Ozpin said, "While I hate the idea that one of the students is cohering with New Moon, or even one of my staff, measures must be put in place. If anyone seems remotely suspicious, they will be interrogated until deemed innocent." A few seconds later, the phone rang. "Hello?" Ozpin answered.

"We have someone approaching the training room sir." The guard on the other end told him.

"Send a live video feed to my scroll now!" Ozpin said, worry evident not in his face, or even his movements, but his eyes alone. Opening his scroll, he saw who they were talking about. "What the hell is he doing there?" Ozpin said to himself bitterly before swiftly walking out of his office and to the training ground.

[Back at the Hospital]

"Pyrrha!" The blond lad called out to his friend as he began his accent, "Watch me climb this tree!"

"Be careful Jack! That tree's pretty high!" Seven year old Pyrrha yelled back to her childhood friend. Other girls thought it weird she played with a boy more often than any single girl, but she didn't care. She always smiled and laughed when she and Jack were playing together. Nearby sat Pyrrha and Jack's mothers on the back porch, watching the two children as they chatted.Suddenly Jack's mother noticed that he was half way up the tree. "Jack come back-"

His mother was too late.

Some solace was taken in the fact that Jack hadn't felt any pain, he had hit his head on a rock at the bottom of the fall, but it did nothing to lessen the pain of his death.

"Pyrrha?" She heard her name being called out to her as she slept.

"Jack…" Pyrrha said, recognizing the voice as a few tears slipped through her closed eyes.

"Wake up Pyrrha…" Jack's voice called out.

"Are you really there Jack?!" Pyrrha asked as she began to sob.

"Pyrrha…" The voice called out again.

"Jack?!" Pyrrha almost yelled out as she woke up. Looking up, she seen Jaune had a worried look on his face, his hand on her back, rubbing back and forth as he tried to help calm her down.

"Normally someone gets asked if they are alright in these situations. You obviously are not. What's wrong Pyrrha?" Jaune asked, worried.

"I'm fi-"

"No, you aren't Pyrrha!" Jaune interrupted Pyrrha, "You wouldn't be calling out this Jack guy's name and crying if you were." Pyrrha looked down, not wanted to look Jaune in the eye.

"About a decade ago, when I was just a little girl, I had a friend named Jack. He was a lovable goofball, just like you, and you two even looked similar, almost like twins." Pyrrha explained, deciding that if nothing else, Jaune deserved that from her, "One day while we were in his backyard playing, he started to climb a tree…" Pyrrha sniffled. "When he was about halfway up, his foot slipped." Pyrrha began to cry a little again. "When he landed, he hit his head on a rock. The next time I saw him after that was when…when he sat in his coffin." Jaune gently wiped away Pyrrha's tears. "When I seen you lying here, the same look on your face as Jack did at his funeral…" Pyrrha was close to breaking down again, when suddenly Jaune hugged her, her head resting against his chest.

"I'll be damned to Hell itself it I let myself die and leave you so easily Pyrrha. As long as you live, I will do everything I can to keep on living beside you." Jaune said, his heart beating faster for Pyrrha to hear as he blushed.

"Jaune…" Pyrrha said tilting her head up to look at Jaune. Slowly, she inched her face closer to his. Jaune noticed this, and followed her lead. Just as their lips met, a flash grabbed their attention. On the opposite side of the room sat Yang with her scroll pointed at the two of them. Both the involved parties blushed even more then they had before, with the urge to his Yang brewing in the back of their minds.

"Now just to upload this to my profile…" Yang said fiddling with her scroll.

"No Yang!" Pyrrha and Jaune both called out as Pyrrha jumped at Yang. She sidestepped and ran out the medical room door. Laughter could be heard from out in the hallway, growing more distant, as the flustered red head went after her. Jaune smiled a little. He hoped that things could stay like this, Yang being able to joke and mess with people at their expense, his love for Pyrrha being the head of his thoughts instead of murder and New Moon, but Jaune knew that wasn't possible. For Jaune, it would never be over with until New Moon was dead, not for him at least.
