It's been a while and I hope you guys weren't waiting long. In this chapter, tension will surface as truths and confrontations are met. What will happen to the twins as they learned the darkest in their life?
Chapter 8: Truth and Trust
The Uzumaki Twins stood there in shock, staring at the two monsters in fear. The strongest and most terrifying of the Bijuu, the Kyuubi, or Kyuubis, were right in front of them. They know about them. All the villagers know about them, even the students.
The story was about how the Yondaime Hokage sacrificed his life to save the village from the rampaging monster that invaded their village. That was the most tragic day in Leaf Village history.
"W-w-what do you mean?" Naruko asked, a bit shaken from being in front of two monsters.
"And…and why is there two of you?" Naruto asked. He may be a bit slow, but he knows that there was only one Kyuubi.
"I'm impress that you aren't running like headless chickens," the Kyuubi on the left said.
"We're not two separate beings," the Kyuubi on the right replied. "We are one being split in two."
"But…but they said you were killed by the Yondaime," Naruto said with disbelief.
"I am-."
"We are," Kyuubi on the left said. Right Kyuubi gave that Kyuubi an annoyed look.
"We're beings of pure chakra, we can't be killed," it said. "We can only be contained."
"Just think about it," Left Kyuubi said. "Why do the adults hate you, Naruto? Why do they whisper behind your back, shooting you with dirty looks and attacking you in your birthday?"
Naruto looked at the light orange Kyuubi with wide eyes. It finally made sense. The whispers, looks and beatings. Naruko looked at him with shock and sad eyes. She never knew her twin was going through such treatment. It made her wish that she was there with him so he wouldn't suffer alone.
"So…this is why," Naruto said sadly. "Why everyone hates me…it finally makes sense."
"Naruto…" Naruko said sadly, putting a hand on his shoulder.
He looked at his sister, who was looking at him with a supportive and sad look. He then looked at the two Kyuubi, especially at the left. The reason of all his pain and misery, the cause of all his grief. He should feel angry at the monstrous beast, but seeing it in a caged made him feel something else.
Pity.
He may have been the cause of every misfortune in his life, but he was caged for most of Naruto's life, in this depressing, dank, dark sewer.
"Hey, what's with that look?" it said, noticing the sad eyes Naruto was giving it.
"…I'm sorry," Naruto said.
"For what?" Kyuubi asked in a confused voice.
"Because of me, you're trap here," Naruto said sadly. "It's my fault why you're here, trapped in this dark, smelly sewer."
The orange Kyuubi looked at Naruto before it laughed, shaking the sewers from its booming voice. The twins were confused at why it was laughing. The dark-orange Kyuubi looked at the left with twitching eyes before orange Kyuubi calmed down.
"It's been a long time since someone said sorry to me," it said as it looked at Naruto with interest. "You're different from my other containers. I can tell. You and your sister."
"Wait," Naruko suddenly said, getting their attention. "If you two are separated in placed in me and my brother, then how come both of you are here?"
"You are twins," Right Kyuubi explained. "You have a special bond that allows me to communicate to my other half."
"Whatever you feel, she feels," Left Kyuubi added.
"Really?" Naruto said. He turned to Naruko and pinched her.
"Ow!" she exclaimed before punching him on the shoulder.
"Hehehe," the Kyuubi chuckled, causing the twins to glare at him.
"Our time is nearly up," the other Kyuubi said. "You will soon wake up. We will meet again."
"Wait!" Naruto exclaimed. "How are we supposed to contact you?"
"We'll contact you," that's what they said before Naruto and Naruko disappeared in the sewers.
"Those kids are interesting, especially the boy," Left Kyuubi said to the Right Kyuubi.
"Tch. There the same as every human," Right Kyuubi said as it went to sleep. "They'll abuse us, like all humans do."
"I don't think so," Left Kyuubi said as it copied its other half. "I feel they'll surprise us."
The Right Kyuubi snorted before closing its eyes. Left Kyuubi just looked at the place where the twins were before closing its eyes.
Real World…
The twins groaned as they slowly opened their eyes. The first thing they saw was a gray-colored ceiling and the smell of disinfectant, a smell Naruto was familiar with. They looked around and saw that they were in the same room in the hospital.
"Naruto?" Naruko groaned as she sat up, rubbing her head. "What happened?"
A slight snoring sound surprised them. The twins turned and saw Danny sleeping on a chair, resting his head on the back of the chair, snoring lightly with drool dripping from the corner of his mouth.
They then remembered what happened: an Uchiha attacked them and broke Dani's arm. Everything after that was hazy.
"DANNY!" the twins exclaimed, shocking Danny from his sleep.
The Phantom fell off his chair and fell to the ground face first. He quickly stood up, shaking himself awake. He looked around blearily until he was able to focus on the twins on the beds.
When he saw them awake, his eyes widened before he gave a grin. He rushed to the nearest twin, which was Naruko, and hugged her.
"You guys are awake!" he exclaimed before let go of Naruko and jumped towards Naruto's bed, almost tripping. "We were worried!"
"What happened?" Naruto asked as he was hugged by Danny. "And how's Dani?"
"She's alright," Danny said with a sigh. When he saw his twin sister on the ground with her arm broken, he would have charged at the Uchiha, if it wasn't for that terrifying feeling that came out of Naruto. He only felt that feeling once, from him. Naruto sighed, looking relief. He then looked at Danny with a serious expression.
"What happened?" he asked.
"You don't remember?" Danny said, not that he could blame him. Even he had a hard time remembering that night. When Naruto one hit that intruder, using that scary feeling chakra, they were surrounded by the grown-ups, who looked worried, and even frightened. And what's weirder was they were frightened at Naruto.
Before they could do something, Naruto, and somehow Naruko, fainted, the red chakra dissipating. While Tsunade healed Dani's arm, Hiruzen took the Uzumaki Twins to the hospital, under constant watch.
"You two have been out cold for three days," he said, causing the twins eyes to widen like saucers.
"THREE DAYS!" Naruto exclaimed, almost jumping out of bed. The sudden movement made him feel lightheaded, feeling all the blood rush to his head. He fell back to bed, waiting for the feeling to reside.
"Where are the others?" Naruko asked, looking at Danny.
"They went home last night," Danny said before he realized he was alone. "But I was sure Jazz-nee, Dani-chan, Sam-chan and Shizune-san were with me."
The moment he said that, the door opened and the people he mentioned entered, carrying some food. Dani saw her friends awake, causing her to gasp before rushing towards the nearest twin, Naruto.
"You're awake!" she exclaimed happily before she rushes to Naruko and hug her too. "We were so worried!"
"We're fine," Naruko said as Sam hugged her. "Just a little dizzy."
"You must be hungry," Jazz said as she showed the food they bought while Shizune checked on them. "Good thing we brought some food."
"Ramen?" Naruto said in a hopeful tone.
"You're not having ramen for breakfast," Jazz said as she pulled out two square containers. She handed it to the twins, and two pairs of chopsticks. They opened it and saw steaming rice, tamago egg and fried fish.
"Itadakimasu," Naruko said before eating the food. Naruto followed her lead, half-heartedly, and ate the food. They ate rather ravenously, feeling hungry. Soon, they ate four container-full of food each. They both sighed in satisfaction, letting Shizune check on them again.
"They're both fine," Shizune said with a nod. "All they needed was food and rest. They can leave now, but we need Tsunade-sama's permission."
"That's good to hear," Jazz said while the kids cheered. "We'll go get Tsunade-sama. You guys just stay here and wait."
The kids nodded and started talking as the two teens walked out the room. While they were looking for Tsunade, the woman in question was busy.
Council Chambers…
Everything was chaos. The Civilians were shouting about the massive fear they felt the night the Uchiha Battle happened. They were afraid the Kyuubi Brat has gone loose. The Shinbo Council were also worried that the Kyuubi might have escaped from Naruto.
"Calm down!" Hiruzen shouted, silencing every immediately. After the battle with the Uchiha, he has been tense. He kept a close eye to Danzo, from Jikan's advice, making sure he won't do anything after the battle. He even assigned his trusted and strongest ANBU to guard the corpses of the ninja who fell that night, to keep their secrets safe.
"I assure you, what happened that night was a false alarm," he said, trying to calm them down. "The Seal is still intact and what happened that night won't happen again."
The Shinobi seemed content with his answer, but the Civilians were not. They wanted the brat dead, to make sure it won't try and kill them. But with Tsunade there and Hiruzen's new backbone, they couldn't demand it.
As for Danzo, he was furious. The Uchiha coup de'tat has been stopped, but with their corpses being guarded, he was denied access to their Sharingan. With the strongest Doujutsu of the village in his hands, he could become the Hokage and make this village become the true strongest village in all of Elemental Nations.
"Now for more important matters," Hiruzen said. "As you may know, the Uchiha attempted to overthrow the village, but we managed to stop them. The issue here is about the surviving Uchiha."
"I say we should enslave them all!" a random Civilian shouted. "How dare they try to overthrow us!"
"Calm down!" Tsume shouted. "First off, they wanted to overthrow the Hokage, and second, the survivors have nothing to do with the coup de'tat. Punishing them will be wrong."
"But they will become vengeful," Danzo said, getting their attention. "Unless we do something about it."
"I agree," Jikan said, earning a surprise look from the Shinobi, except Hiruzen. "We must show the Uchiha clan we do not blame them. We must treat them equally, to avoid another uprising."
"That's a good idea, Jikan-dono," Hiruzen said with a nod.
The shinobi were also in agreement, but Danzo was mad. He was about to proposed to take all the Uchiha children and 'educate' them, planning to turn them into his Root-Nin. If he proposed his plan now, it might place him in a bad light.
With that, the Council was dismissed. The Civilians left, not feeling happy. Hiruzen sighed as he went to take his trusty pipe. The other Clan Heads left as well, except Jikan.
"Keep a close eye on Danzo, Hokage-sama," Jikan said in a warning tone. "I can feel he is up to something."
"You are not the only one," Hiruzen said with a sigh. "I can feel it in these old bones of mine. That war hawk is planning something bad."
"Just pray we will stop him," Jikan said before exiting the room. "Only time can tell when he will strike."
Hiruzen lighted the pipe and took a deep breath. A shinobi's life was hard, but it was the path he chose.
Hospital…
The kids were just talking, waiting for the older kids to come back. Naruto was unusually quiet. The dream he had was still haunting him. And from the look of Naruko's eyes, that dream was real. The Kyuubi was inside them.
"Naruto?" a voice said, getting his attention. It was Danny, who was looking at him worriedly. "You okay? You're kinda quiet?"
"I'm fine," Naruto said with a false smile. "Just tired."
Danny looked at him, recognizing that fake smile. He decided not to comment on it, but he guess it had something to do with that mysterious red chakra. Whatever it was, it may have something to do with the villagers' behavior towards him, but he didn't understand why Naruko fainted. Was she somehow connected?
He was snap out of his thought when the door opened, revealing Jazz and Shizune, followed by Tsunade. The Sennin look at the clipboard and nodded, giving the twins a clean bill of health. Naruto and Naruko didn't look happy, but they hide it behind fake smiles.
He looked at Dani, who also noticed their fake smiles. The two nodded, deciding to ask them later, once they were feeling better.
Uchiha Compound…
Satsuki was sitting next to her mother, hugging her closely. Three days has passed and Sasuke was still shouting at Itachi.
The twins were told what happened that night her fellow clansmen attacked her and her friends. She was shocked to hear her father and their elders plotted to overthrow the Hokage and take over the Leaf. With no other choice, her big brother killed their father.
Sasuke was not happy about that. He argued to Itachi that it wasn't right to kill their father. Itachi explained that it was for the sake of the village.
Mikoto, much to Sasuke's shock, agreed with Itachi. Truth be told, she never loved Fugaku. Heck, she never liked the guy. She only married him because her dad made her do it. Besides, he never was a good husband and father.
"Enough, Sasuke," Itachi said as Sasuke took a deep breath. "You may not like this, but it is for the sake of not only the village, but also the future generation."
"What about our future!" Sasuke shouted angrily.
"The village's future is our future," Itachi said calmly.
"The village can burn for all I care!" Sasuke exclaimed.
Mikoto and Satsuki gasped while Itachi's eyes widened. To hear him declare that was a shock. Even Madara, being a traitor, never wanted to see the village burn. Suddenly, Sasuke was on the ground, a bruise on his left cheek.
Shocked, Sasuke look at Itachi, who had his hand raised, a cold look in his always warm eyes. Even the two girls were surprised by Itachi's sudden action.
"You may be my brother, Sasuke, but I will not let you talk like that about our village," he said coldly, scaring Satsuki.
"Then I guess I'm not your brother anymore," Sasuke said. He stood up and walked to his room. "I'm moving out of this place."
Mikoto, being the caring mother that she is, tried to persuade Sasuke not to go, but he ignored her, took all his stuff and stomped out the house. Itachi just watched him go, looking angry and quite sad. Satsuki watched her twin go, feeling conflicted. On one hand, he bullied her when they were training with their late father, but he is her brother.
Sasuke was stomping through the street, which were nearly empty. He looked around the area and could see the spirit of his murdered clansmen. He clenched his fists and gritted his teeth until he could hear them crunch.
"I will make you pay for this Itachi," he thought as he looked for a place to stay. "I will avenge the Uchiha."
Two Days Later…
Naruto and Naruko were alone in the park, having a talk. They were discussing about the Kyuubi. They were sitting under a tree, talking about their predicament.
"Naruto, you're being silly," Naruko said to a sulking Naruto. "They'll understand."
"But what if they don't," he replied glumly. "What if they started hating me like the villagers do."
"They won't," Naruko assured him. "They'll understand. Trust me."
"Yeah, we'll understand," a voice said above them, surprising them. The Uzumaki Twins look up and saw Danny sitting on a tree branch, looking at them. Next to him were Dani, Hinata, Sam and Satsuki. "But first we need to know what to understand, right guys?"
"Yeah," a voice said behind the tree. Ino, Shikamaru, Choji, Shino and Yakumo emerged from behind the tree.
"How'd you sneak near us?" Naruto asked as his friends from the trees jumped down.
"We're future shinobi, remember?" Danny said as he sat in front of the Twins. "Now talk. What's wrong? Why have you been avoiding us?"
Naruto looked down, not knowing how to tell them. He felt a hand on his shoulder, causing him to look up. He saw Naruko giving him a supportive look. The blonde gave a small smile before looking at his friends, who were waiting for his explanation.
"Do you guys know about the Kyuubi?" he asked.
"The big fox that almost destroyed your village?" Danny asked, earning strange looks from his friends from the way he said that so easily. "We know about it? So what?"
Naruto took a deep, calming breath to calm himself. "The Kyuubi is in me and Naruko. The Yondaime sealed the Kyuubi our guts to save the village."
He looked at their reaction and saw their expressions. Hinata, Choji, Ino, Yakumo, Sam and Satsuki looked shock while Danny, Shikamaru and Dani had a look of understanding. Shino's face was unreadable, but they heard him gasp.
He waited for the angry outburst and name calling from his friends. Instead, there was just silence. Finally, after what felt like an eternity to Naruto, someone finally talked.
"Huh. That'd explain how you could fit all that ramen in there," Danny said, causing Naruto to look at him with wide eyes. "I mean, if a giant fox could fit there, then I guess all that ramen won't be enough to fill that large belly of yours."
"W-what?" Naruto said as Danny chuckled.
"Naruto, we don't care that you have something in your gut," he said with a grin. "You're our friend, even if you have a giant, destructive fox in your gut."
"He's right," Dani said. "You'll always be our friend, no matter what."
Naruto looked at the two first friends in his life, who didn't look like they were lying. He then turned to the rest of his friends and saw they had the same look. They didn't care about the Kyuubi being inside him. They were still his friends,
Naruto looked down, feeling happy. Even after he told them about the Kyuubi, they were still willing to hang out with him. He could feel his eyes watering.
Sadly, they noticed.
"Wow, didn't know our future Hokage cries," Danny said with a grin.
"Shut up! I'm not crying!" Naruto shouted, hastily wiping the tears.
"From now on, you'll be Cry-Baby Hokage!"
"Yeah!"
Naruto fumed at them while Naruko laughed. Soon, he started laughing as well, causing everyone to laugh. Soon, Naruto forgot all about his worries.
"C'mon, let's go play," Danny said as he gestured at them to follow him.
Naruto grinned as he stood up and followed him, followed by the rest of his friends. With his friends and sister by his side, he can handle being the Kyuubi's container and whatever life throws at him.
Unknown Location…
In the dark room, Danzo was looking at his army of mindless shinobi. This was the place where he trains all his Root-Nin. They were the shinobi he kidnapped from birth or taken from the battlefield and mind erased to follow his will. The time to do what was necessary is now. He needed to do this now while the Hokage is still recovering from the Uchiha Battle.
He needed to do what was necessary, kill Hiruzen Sarutobi. Once he's out of the way, he can turn the Kyuubi Brat into the perfect weapon, control the Phantom, Hyuuga and Uchiha and use them to bred future super soldiers. After that, he will make sure that Konoha will be the true strongest village in the entire Elemental Country.
"Soon, Konoha will be on the top," he declared to his Root-Nin. "And no one will ever challenge her."
And there you go. Despite being in an AU world where the Uchiha Massacre didn't happen, Sasuke will want vengeance against Itachi for 'betraying' their clan. Naruto knows and told his friends about the Kyuubi, which they accepted. I will go to greater lengths about it in the next chapter. Also, Danzo is preparing for another civil war (Civil War!).
Also, the reason I haven't updated The Phantom Dragon Slayer, I've been having writer's block on that story. I know how I want it to end, I just don't know how to get it there. Until I figure out how, it's on Hiatus.
Well, now for some hints. Next chapter, old friends on opposite sides of the field. See you later! And have a good summer.
