*Hadyn's P.o.V*
In the middle of a dream about yak tipping, I hear someone calling my name.
"Hadyn, wake up! Come on, it's important! Hadyn, come on, wake up! Hadyn!"
I roll over and crack my eyes open blearily, seeing Hiccup and Cyandin standing above me. "I don'… Wanna do trainin' today guys," I mutter sleepily, closing my eyes again.
"Hadyn, its important and not about training. Twister laid her eggs last night, and it's only a matter of time before they hatch," Hiccup says.
This wakes me up and I sit up abruptly in bed. "She laid her eggs last night?! How long does it take for dragon eggs to hatch?" I ask, staring at Hiccup.
"It varies between dragons. I have to say that maybe, considering it's a hybrid of dragons, that it'll take a shorter amount of time than normal for Terrible Terrors… Maybe three days, because Terrible Terror eggs take about a week to hatch and a Night Fury egg only takes about twenty-four hours to hatch…" Hiccup says, wringing his hands nervously.
"Three days!? That would be just enough time for Methodius," Cyandin flinches at the name, "to arrive here, given if he knows we're here," I say, my voice oddly calm.
Hiccup nods, keeping silent. I look around and spot Twister and Toothless curled up around three blue and green, fairly large, speckled eggs. I get up and walk over to the two of them.
Twister looks up at me smiling. Then she looks back at her eggs proudly. I squat down next to them and pet Twister.
"You did good, girl. You did good," I say quietly. Then I stand up and walk over to Cyandins' and Hiccups' side.
"I guess we better get going. We've got a lot to get done, and not a lot of time," I say before walking over to the stairs. Twister makes to get up and follow, but I give her a stern look. "No, you stay here and watch over your eggs." Twister settles back down. I walk down the stairs and towards the front door.
*Hiccup's P.o.V.*
I stared after Hadyn in amazement. She had taken everything so calm, and it was almost scary. Yesterday she was really nervous, but today it's like she had come to terms with everything as soon as she woke up. It was kinda nerve racking to see her like this.
"I'm going to go catch up to Hadyn," I say as I hear the door shut downstairs. "Can you go get Astrid and the twins for me, while I go get Snotlout and Fishlegs?" I ask Cyandin. He nods and we both head downstairs and out the door.
Once we were outside, I see Hadyn walking in the direction of the arena, which also happens to be in the direction of Fishlegs and Snotlouts house. Cyandin and I split off in different directions and I run up to Hadyns' side.
"Hadyn, are you alright?" I ask.
She stops walking and nods. "I'm fine. I guess I just excepted things the way they are. There's nothing I can really do but prepare for it. I can't prevent it from happening, so for now I'm just going to except it and do what I can to help," she says.
I nod, not know what to say. After a moment of awkward silence, I speak up. "Cyandin went to go get Astrid and the twins, and we're to get Fishlegs and Snotlout."
"He like her you know," Hadyn says suddenly.
"Who?" I ask.
"Cyandin. He likes Astrid. He has since he met her. And I think she likes him too," she explains without really looking at me.
"Really? What makes you think that?"
"Have you notice the way they've been acting around each other? Astrid is always smiling, which I'm pretty sure it isn't that normal. And Cyandin, I don't recall him being this happy a day in his life. He's never smiled; he always had a scowl on his face after mom died. This is the first time he's smiled in nine years," she says meeting my eyes finally.
Hadyn does have a point. In the few days Cyandin has been here, Astrids done nothing but crack jokes, laugh, and smile. I guess Cyandin's been different as well, but I can't be sure because I've only just met him. But I have realized that when the two of them are together, it's like they're in their own little world.
"I see your point there. Do you think they realize they like each other?" I ask finally.
Hadyn shakes her head. "No, they're too caught up in what they're feeling to actually notice that the other is feeling the same way," she pauses and smiles suddenly, "but, we can help them. Once this whole mess is over with, we're going to do something about the love birds."
"Did I hear something about love birds? You couldn't be talking about Astrid and Cyandin, could you?" Fishlegs ask, walking up to us.
"See, even he knows!" Hadyn says, "But yes, Fishlegs, we are talking about Cyandin and Astrid and their helpless love life."
"If you're talking about Cyandin and Astrid, I wouldn't say that their love life is completely helpless," Snotlout says as he approaches us.
"How did everyone see it in two except me?" I ask, beginning to feel a little behind on everything.
"'Those two' who?" someone asks from behind us.
We all jump and turn around to see Cyandin, Astrid, Ruffnut and Tuffnut standing behind us. Astrid had her arms crossed and was staring at us.
"Er, Twister and Toothless… It seems as if everyone here knew that the two of them were going to have more than one egg," I say, praying to the gods that Astrid believed me.
She wasn't convinced, but she let it drop. "Cyandin told us about the eggs and everything. By the looks of things, we've got roughly three whole days to teach Hadyn things that would normally take three years to learn. So we better get started," Astrid says.
"Gee, Astrid. That comment really helped with the stress level here," I say sarcastically.
She rolls her eyes. "Keep talking Haddock. I'll have Hadyn go against you in dragon battle," Astrid threatens.
Everyone laughs at that. Even me.
*Hadyn's P.o.V.*
Hiccup kept quiet for a while after Astrid's threat, but whether it was because of that or something else, I didn't know. We all walk down to the arena, pulling the lever to open the gate-like entrance. The cart of weapons, the table, and all of the books were still where we left them. Once we were all inside the arena, Astrid speaks up.
"Okay, since yesterday we covered weapons and dragon fighting yesterday, I think it's time for hand-to-hand combat and dragon knowledge today. Sound good?" she asks, looking at everyone in the group. We all agree and she nods in satisfaction.
"Come on Snotlout, you're up!" I call as I walk to the middle of the arena. Snotlout hesitantly joins me.
"You ready?" I ask. He nods, though he seems a little worried. I roll my eyes and say, "You don't need to be worried, I won't hurt you… Too badly." I guess saying that didn't help, but really, I didn't want it to.
I throw a punch, and Snotlout blocks it pretty easily. I throw a few more, and after have those punches blocked, I quickly round-house kicked him in the side, catching him by surprise. Snotlout rubs at his ribs and gives me thumbs up.
"Pretty good. You're punches are strong and you're quick… But there's one little problem," he says.
I put my hands on my hips. "And what problem would that be?" I ask. I never liked people telling me I had a problem, even if it was a little one.
"Easy there, I wasn't trying to pick fun. The problem is that you're too predictable. You wouldn't be able to keep the enemy on its toes. When you go to throw a punch, you shift your body weight too much and they can tell which way you're going to punch with that. Try shifting it subtly," Snotlout explains. "Now, come on, let's try again."
We get back into training. He blocks almost all of my punches and even a few of my kicks. After regaining my balance after one of my kicks being blocked, I focus on not moving a lot to show which way I was going to punch next. I throw the punch and catch Snotlout in the jaw, hitting him hard enough to knock him backwards a couple of steps. He rubs at his jaw, and then he smiles at me.
"Nice one… I mean, er, I let you get that one," he says, laughing nervously.
"Yeah, yeah. Get over here so we can get on with this," I say.
After a few hours, I had successfully knocked Snotlout on his ass a total of twenty-five times. Now we were switching, to where I had to block his oncoming attacks. He gave me hints about which way he was going to punch, claiming it was all in the foot movement.
"But you can't always watch their feet, you have to be able to watch that entire person at once," Snotlout says.
Sometimes his movements were obvious and easy to block. Other times it was harder to judge where the blow was headed to. Snotlout wasn't very good with his feet, so his kicks were always the easiest to block. Another two hours had passed without me noticing it and Astrid calls a break for me.
At some point, Fishlegs had left to go get some food and water for us all. He comes into the arena carrying a try holding seven mugs of water and what looked like two big hunks of goat cheese, a pound of Wild Boar Jerky, and three loaves of bread.
We all sat around the table, eating our quickly put together sandwiches. After a while, Astrid and Cyandin got up and walked away. They began combating with weapons on the other side of the arena. We watch the two of them for a moment before Fishlegs pulls out a thick book with a picture of a dragon curled up on the cover. Looking at it closer, I notice that it's 'Book of Dragons' I saw in Gobber's work shop.
"Okay, now we're going to talk about dragons. Our dragons should be home tomorrow, with hatchlings in tow, except for the Terrible Terrors. Now, we have a very wide verity of dragons on our island. Our job right now is to decipher which ones could be used at best for us," Fishlegs says. He flips through the pages of the books for a second. As he lands on the one he was looking for, he points at the picture. "This dragon is a –,"
"ZippleBack," Hiccup says from beside me.
"Good. How could this dragon be of use to us?" Fishlegs asks.
"Uh, it's gas it releases can create a veil to hide us, and if the gas is breathed in it can cause delusions," I say.
"Very good Hadyn. Now," Fishlegs flips to another page, "what's this dragon?"
"A Deadly Nadder," I say and Fishlegs nods.
"With its poisonous spines that can completely paralyze a man with one spine," Hiccup says.
Fishlegs nods again and flips to another page. For hours we sat, classifying dragons. It was well into the evening when Stoic came looking for us.
"Oi, Hiccup! There you are. I've been looking everywhere for you," Stoic says as he walks into the arena. "I noticed that Twister and Toothless were still here, they were lying outside when I got home."
"Oh, yeah. Well, Twister was carrying Toothless' baby, er, babies and since Toothless can't fly without me, they decided to stay here," Hiccup explains.
Stoic nods. "Ah, very well then… Wait, you said was carrying his babies… What happened? And what, Toothless and Twister mated?!" he asks, finally hearing all of what Hiccup said.
A small smirk crosses Hiccups face. "Yes, they mated. Have you noticed how close the two of them have been lately? But anyways, Twister laid her eggs last night."
"Oh, well, okay then," Stoic says clasping his hands together importantly. "Well, it appears you have everything under control. I heard about what was going on, with your father, Hadyn. I wish you the best of luck," he says and walks out of the arena.
Fishlegs closes the book of dragons, smiling with satisfaction. Astrid and Cyandin had put their weapons back in the cart a while ago, Astrid clapping a hand down a Cyandin.
"Great job out there with that axe. You were almost as good as me," she says smiling up at him. Cyandin smiles back and a light blush was visible on his cheeks. I nudge Hiccup gently in the ribs, gesturing over to Cyandin and Astrid.
He looks over to where the two of them were standing; both of them wearing smiles, both of them with a very noticeable blush spreading across their cheeks. They were laughing, happy in their own little world. Just like I had pointed out, both of them were nervous, but they didn't notice it about each other. Cyandin kept running his hands through his hair and Astrid was wringing her hands together. Soon, Astrid must have felt the gazes of the entire group, because she glanced over quickly… then did a double take and her gaze lingered.
"What are you all looking at?" she asks, her blush becoming deeper.
Fishlegs averts his gaze and looks the other way, acting as if he wasn't staring in the first place.
Hiccup chuckles and looks away. "Oh nothing, just watching you guys flirt with each other," he says smugly.
Astrid looks taken back, Cyandin looks shocked that such a thing was said. "Flirting? We were not flirting. We were merely talking," they say at the same exact time.
"Yeah, okay," Hiccup says, chuckling again.
Astrid rolls her eyes and walks over to us. "Anyways, I think we've done enough work for one night, it's hitting night time."
"You two and whoever else wants to, can go on home. I'm gonna stay here and keep up with the practice for a while," I say.
Cyandin and Astrid nod, they turn to leave with the twins, Snotlout, and Fishlegs in tow, leave Hiccup and I alone.
"So you really think they're helpless?" Hiccup asks as the doors to arena slammed shut.
I nod and look back at Hiccup. "They'll figure it out soon enough though. I mean with everyone around them seeing it, it's only a matter of time before they do see it," Hadyn says while chuckling a bit.
"Well, I guess we should start practicing some more," Hiccup says, getting up from the table. He walks to the back of the arena and grabs an armful of shields with targets on them. "Help me put this up, please? We're doing target practice 'til nightfall."
"Sure thing Hiccup, I'll be right over," I say, standing up and walking over to Hiccup to take some of the shields. We quickly put up the shields and my first lesson of target practice begins.
**TIME SKIP! (THE NEXT MORNING)**
I wake up the next morning before everyone else. I roll over in bed and peak out the window to see that rays of sun were trying to break through the heavy cloud layer. Looks like it might rain, great. I hate the rain, always have, and probably always will. With living so far up north in the islands, the rain is always cold, right on the verge of freezing. For some reason though, I've had dreams – well, more like something of a memory of a place – were, when it rained, it was always a warm summer rain, where me and other little kids would play in it. But I don't remember the place, or the kids.
I shake off the memory of the dream and get out of bed. A movement to my left catches my attention and I see Toothless raise his head and look over at me. I smile at him and walk over to where he and Twister were sleeping. I put my hand out in front of me and Toothless rubs his head against it, purring loudly. Twister wakes up and looks at me sleepily. Her body was curled around her eggs, and Toothless was curled around her protectively. The eggs began to twitch and a little crack appeared in one, a pale green on with minimal blue speckles.
A hand placed on my shoulder makes me jump. I look up and meet beautiful jade green orbs that Hiccup dared called eyes. He smiles a little sleepy smile at me, and oh my gods he looks so adorable! His eyes were shining from just waking up, his hair was tussled, and there was a little red circle on his cheek from where he fell asleep on his arm. Being that adorable should be illegal.
Hiccup crouches down next to me and looks at the eggs. His mouth drops into a little 'o' when he sees the crack in the middle one. "They're cracking. Look, there's a big one in the blue one," he says pointing to the egg on the left.
He was right. There was a rather large crack in the blue egg that had large green speckles all over it. The egg on the right, a dark green on with pastel blue splotches, also had a crack in it. "Does this mean that they might hatch by nightfall?" I ask, placing my hand on one of the eggs.
Hiccup nods, seeming a little lost in thought. "I really hope that these eggs don't explode… that could be pretty bad," he says while looking at the eggs. They twitched again and another little crack appeared in each of them.
The image of Stoic coming home and standing out front while the roof was exploding came to mind. It was a little funny, but I'd hate to see what he'd really do. "Uh, yeah, that would be pretty bad. Your father might kill us," I say.
Hiccup nods, remaining silent. Twister eventually got up and curled herself around my shoulders, rubbing her face against my cheek. I reach up and scratch under her chin. Outside the window, a flash of lightening makes its way across the sky, followed by a clap of thunder. The rain began to fall harder, making big splotches of water on the window sill.
"I think we better skip on the training today," Hiccup say out of the blue.
I stare at him as if he'd lost his mind. "What?"
"It's raining, and dragons can't light their fires when they're wet. Then there's the lightning, it's attracted to metal, so it wouldn't be safe to go swinging around weapons in the arena. And then, of course, who would like to play out in the freezing cold rain?"
Eh, he has a good point. Besides, I don't want to go out there unless I absolutely had too. I think I've already mentioned, but I hate the rain.
Rapid knock came from downstairs. Someone had come over. I take Twister off my shoulders and head downstairs to answer the door with Hiccup.
When we opened the door, we were met with five soaking wet teenagers. "Are you going to let us in, or just stand there?" Snotlouts' voice came from the back of the group.
Hiccup and I laugh and move over to let everyone in. Once they were inside, Astrid looks around, seeming to notice that someone was missing.
"Hey, uh, where's Cyandin?" she asks blushing so lightly, it almost – almost – unnoticeable. But, of course, we all noticed it. We just didn't say anything about it because we're nice people.
"He's upstairs, I think he's still asleep," I say.
"He's still asleep? During a storm like this?" Astrid asks.
"Heavy sleeper. I bet you I could start screaming right now and he wouldn't even roll over," I say, while chuckling a little.
"How about we don't test that theory and just head upstairs. We've got to show you all something anyways," Hiccup says. He leads the group and me back upstairs, over to where Toothless and Twister lay.
Bending down, he gently picked up and egg and turned around, holding it proudly. Everyone stepped closer and, in unison, gasped. As Hiccup held the egg, it twitched again, more little cracks appearing. He carefully set it back down in between Toothless and Twister. Looking back at us he smiles.
"We're skipping training today due to the weather. All the eggs will probably be hatched by night fall so in the meantime, what do you all want to do?" Hiccup asks.
*Hiccups' P.o.V.*
Everyone was scattered around my room, the twins were playing a violent game of 'Hammer-Axe-Sword'* thankfully not using the actual weapons, Cyandin, Astrid, and Snotlout were all by the dragons talking about fighting techniques, and Hadyn and I, well… We pulled out one of my sketch books and Hadyn was in awe over the drawings. Every time I'd turn to a page with a new dragon that she's never seen, her blue eyes would widen and her face would break into the cutest little smile. We sat like that for hours, just talking
"What's this one?" she asks, pointing to a four headed dragon that almost resembled a flower of some sorts.
"That's a Snaptrapper dragon," I say.
"Ooh, what does it do?"
"It's sad to release a scent that smells like chocolate. It's such an enticing smell that it can span across the seas."
"Really? Are they common here in Berk?"
"Er, well no. I don't think one actually ever been spotted here. They live somewhere off the west coast of Dragon Island."
"I want to see one someday," she turns the page and her face lights up again, "Oh, I've seen this type before!"
I look at the page and I earn a real shock. On the page there was a drawing of a Skrill. "Uh, where exactly have you seen this one?"
Hadyn blushes a little. "Er, my memory's a little fuzzy… But this dragon, it pulled me out of the water when my ship was destroyed in the storm. I had woken up a little and noticed I was being carried by a dragon… And now looking back on it, from this picture, it was this dragon that brought me to Berk," she says, laughing a little bit.
I stare at her in amazement. "Hadyn, that's incredible. Your life was saved by probably the most dangerous and deadly dragon out there. That's," I pause, looking at her and smile, "really something, Hadyn."
She blushes and looks away, smiling softly.
"Uh, guys, I really hate to break up the love fest… But uh, we have a, uh, newcomer," Astrid says from beside the two dragons… Well, make that three. There was a little dragon in between Toothless and Twister, but I couldn't see it very well. I get up and take Hadyns' hand, helping her off the bed and walk over to the others.
There, in the middle of Toothless and Twister, was the cutest, most adorable baby dragon. It had the appearance of a Night Fury, but it was pastel blue and dark green, and smaller than a Terrible Terror. It had the widest, most curious green eyes I had ever seen. I hear a gasp next to me and see Hadyn drop to her knees and hold her hands out in front of the baby dragon.
The little Night Fury sniffed her hands, and then crawled up into her hands, and it fit right in her palms. Hadyn smiles and holds the dragon closer staring at it in awe.
"Hey there girl. Your name is Camicazi," Hadyn says to the little blue and green dragon. The dragon smiles and I notice that it didn't have any teeth, much like Toothless.
I look away from the extremely too adorable scene and look at the remaining eggs. Seems like Camicazi was hatched out of the dark green and blue egg, and the pale green one with very little blue on it seemed like it was going to be next.
I was right. The rest of the shell cracked and out tumbled a little black night fury with very distinct green markings. This one is just as small as Camicazi, and comparing the two, I notice that Camicazi has the same markings. I pick this one up in my hands and look at it. Hadyn glances over at me and smiles.
"Go ahead, name him," she says as Camicazi scampers up her arms.
I stare at the little dragon in my hands for a second. "Hm, how about… Mordecai."
"It's perfect," Hadyn says, smiling at me.
"Hey guys, what about this one?" Astrid asks, pulling a solid black Terrible Terror off of her boot, where it had reattached itself after Astrid pulled it off.
"Her name is Nightlyght, with a 'y'," Hadyn says without hesitation.
Astrid gives up on trying pulling Nightlyght off and lets her do what she wants.
Heavy footsteps sound on the stairs and we all turn to see my dad standing at the top of the stair way. He catches sight of the baby dragons and his face… I swear on everything his expression was one of awe. As if he actually thinks something's cute.
"Are those the babies from Twister and Toothless?" he asks.
Hadyn nods. "Stoic, meet Camicazi, Mordecai, and Nightlyght, with a 'y'," she says, pointing to each of them in turn.
"Well, they certainly are… er, cute," my dad gets out awkwardly.
We all chuckle at my dad's discomfort. "So, dad, did you need anything?" I ask.
"Huh? Oh, yeah… Gothi spotted a boat about twenty miles of the eastern coast of Berk… It had the same design on it as the ship Cyandin came in on… And it will be here by morning. "
