Chapter 9: Bilgewater Part 3
I woke up this morning feeling more great than I ever have before, the memory of last night still on my mind. As I laid under the covers I realized that what we did last night was more than just playing with toys, it was a bonding experience that I would like to think brought the three of us closer together, even Amumu seemed to be warming up to MF which was a great accomplishment in itself.
When I moved myself under the cover I heard something fall to the floor and realized that the toys were still on the bed, besides the one that just fell. I picked up the toy Gorilla and dinosaur, A smile spread on my face as I set them back onto the bed, I would definitely keep those for a long time so I can't forget about what happened.
I pushed the covers off of me then got out of bed, I picked up the toy robot that had fallen onto the floor and put it next to the two other toys.
"Good morning Fizz." I heard Amumu say from his corner, it was different from the other times he had said good morning to me because while it was very subtle I swore I heard a hint of joy to his voice.
"Good morning Amumu!" I stretched out my arms and let out a groan as I stretched. "Last night was fun, huh?"
"Yes, it was."
"I could tell since I saw you smiling." I said with my own smile.
"Wha? N-no I wasn't!"
"Haha, it's not anything to be embarrassed about, I'm glad you had a good time!"
I heard a low growl come from my stomach and looked down, I guessed I should go get some breakfast.
"I'm hungry…" I groaned. "I think I'm going to go fishing, want to come?"
"No…I think I will stay here…" This surprised me since Amumu had always made a point of sticking close to me while we were in Bilgewater.
"You sure?" Amumu nodded his head and I shrugged. "If you say so, I'll be right back okay?"
I took one last glance at Amumu before I left, there was a odd look in his eyes as he looked out the window, this odd look told me that he was deep in thought about…something, I don't know what. I really wished I knew what that mummy was thinking, with someone like Amumu you can't even guess what they may be thinking about.
While I only intended to go into the sea real quick and grab a few fish to eat I ended up staying in there for longer than I intended. There are few times when I'm able to truly enjoy the blue beauty which is my home, the sea. I laughed to myself as I swam through the water with zero care in the world, a few fish even swam along with me but I couldn't be bothered to try and catch anyone of them since I was too busy enjoying myself, I felt so alive when I was in the sea!
It only got more beautiful when you swam away from the docks of Piltover where the water is more polluted, I made sure to not go too far so I wouldn't get lost but far out enough where the water was crystal clear.
Eventually the hunger in my stomach grew too big to ignore so I decided that playtime was over and caught three fishes before returning back to the docks.
The docks were a lot more active during this time of the day, I had to walk through crowds of sailors and pirates which is hard since no one took any notice of me and keep bumping into me, or maybe they did and still decided to bump into me.
After finally making it through the crowd of loud sailors I found a bench to sit on and started eating the fish from my lap.
I was on my last fish when I suddenly heard someone yelling followed shortly by someone else yelling. I looked to the right and saw that a small crowd of sailors had formed, this wasn't a unusual thing to happen since judging from all the yelling there was a fight going on and if there was one thing people in Bilgewater liked to do besides drink and sail it was fighting or watching someone else fight.
Judging from the loud shouts coming from the sailors watching, it was very violent fight going on.
I would've ignored the fighting and kept eating my fish if I didn't suddenly see a familiar set of red locks in the middle of the crowd of sailors. Since there are very few people with red hair like that I knew it just had to be Miss Fortune.
Curious, I quickly finished off his last fish and ran over to the crowd of sailors, thanks to my size I was able to squeeze through the legs of the sailors to get a better look at what was happening.
Turns out it was in fact MF I had seen from the bench, what I wasn't expecting was to also see Gangplank in the circle of sailors.
"I told you to fuck off asshole!" MF shouted at Gangplank, her face was burning red and the anger coming from her was enough to startle me.
"N-Not until I'm don't s-speaking…" Gangplank's voice gave away his drunkenness and also from how he stumbled every other second.
"FUCK. OFF!"
SLAP, that sound seemed to echo throughout the docks and the hype from the sailors grew along with their shouts. MF's slap knocked Gangplank onto his rear, he could barely stand up anyway from being so intoxicated.
"Now leave me the fuck alone!" MF snarled then turned to walk away.
With such quickness that I think surprised everyone considering Gangplank's drunk state, Gangplank got to his feet and punched MF square in the face when she had turned around.
If the hype was high before it really was now after that punch from Gangplank, MF was knocked back slightly from the punch, confusion quickly turned to anger as she tackled the pirate to the ground.
The two rolled around on the ground delivering and returning punches for a good while, as the punches grew more violent so did the crowd of sailors pushing and shoving to try to get a good glance at the two fight.
MF got the most punches on Gangplank but still received a few of her own from the pirate, in the end Gangplank's intoxication was how downfall and the reason as to why he lost that fight.
MF punched Gangplank one last time in the face for good measure.
"Leave. Me. ALONE." MF pushed herself off of Gangplank then made her way through the crowd of people who had grown more silent now that the fight was over.
There was still a few comments made, most of them being how "Gangplank got beat by a woman." I ignored these rude comments and watched MF as she stormed down the docks, pushing away anyone that got in her way.
I took one last look at the blood stained face of Gangplank before I ran off after MF. I don't know what drove me to follow her, I didn't even think twice about it, all I knew was that I felt the need to follow after her so that's what I did.
Everyone cleared a way for MF as she stormed through the city, I guessed that this wasn't the first time she got angry like this and people knew well to stay clear of her when she was like this…so why was I following her?
I followed her all the way back to her house, either she hadn't noticed me or didn't bother stopping to say anything to me.
The only time I stopped following her was when she walked into her room and slammed the door shut behind her.
I heard her speak angrily to herself and judging from the loud crashing noises coming from the other side she was also breaking a few things in her room from anger.
This went on for I don't know how long until everything went quiet on the other side of the door.
After awhile of waiting outside I walked up to the door, gulped nervously, then knocked on the door.
"Go. Away." MF said so quietly that I almost didn't hear her say it.
"Miss Fortune? Are you okay?" I asked, my concern showing in my voice.
"…"
"Miss Fortune?"
"Go. Away…" MF said, this time with more sadness in her voice…was she crying?
"Miss Fortune, are you okay?" I don't know why I asked that since it was obvious that she wasn't doing okay at all, probably because I didn't know what else to say.
"Go. Away…please Fizz."
I didn't want to go away, I wanted to try and help my friend who I could definitely hear crying on the other side now. It made me feel almost sad too hearing a woman usually full of confidence and grace degenerated to this.
Still I honored her request and went to my guest room where Amumu was still seated in his corner, he turned to look at me when I closed the door behind me.
"A-Are you okay?" Amumu said with unease.
"Of course! Why?"
Amumu pointed at me face, I realized that a single tear stained my cheek.
"Why are you sad?"
I quickly whipped away the tear and gave Amumu the best smile I could muster even though I was a little sad.
"No, I'm just…great! Yeah, everything is just so great" I laughed nervously.
"…Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I'm fine!" Ug, I hated the nasty taste I got in my mouth when I lied to Amumu, I really didn't feel like talking about what happened though.
I couldn't tell if Amumu believed my lie or not, but he he didn't press the issue any further even thought I could tell he wanted to know what got me upset.
It was late in the afternoon so I decided to stay in the room and practice my drawing with the new sketchbook I got, MF still hadn't come out of her room as time passed and I was about to worry even more as it got dark out, MF always went out when it was night but she showed zero sign of leaving her room.
My worry didn't go away once it got later, she still didn't leave her room and I heard no sound coming from her room.
I couldn't even focus on drawing since I was concerned for my friend, I closed the sketchbook and put it on the bed.
"I'll be back Amumu, got to use the bathroom."
"Okay."
I left the room and walked the short distance down the hall to MF's room, not the bathroom.
I pressed a ear against the door and listened for any sound, there was absolute silence, she wasn't even crying anymore from what I could hear. I had enough sense to know that just because she wasn't crying didn't mean she magically felt better.
I nervously knocked on the wooden door and waited.
After a few minutes of nothing I knocked on the door again to only repeat the process a few times until I tried opening the door to find that it was never locked in the first place.
The door made a low creak sound as I slowly pushed it open, MF's room was completely dark except the little light the moon provided through the window. MF's bedroom looked a lot like the one that was in her ship, except for the different pattern flooring and wallpaper and a bunch of other furniture.
"Miss Fortune?" I spoke softly then closed the door behind me.
"Go…away…" I followed the source of the voice and found MF laying on her side on the floor staring straight ahead at nothing.
"No, I'm sorry but I can't just leave you like this!" I said in a protective manner that I picked up from being in similar situations like this with Amumu. "What happened? Please tell me." All I knew about was the fight with Gangplank, but I still had no idea what started the fight in the first place, since Gangplank was more drunk than usual when I saw him he must have said something stupid and angered MF. My guess must have not been too far off because MF muttered hatefully,
"That…That asshole, I hate him, I hate him, I…hate…HIM." MF's voice seemed to be a mix of despair and hatred. "I hate him…I hate him…" MF kept repeating to herself, each time quieter than the last.
"What did he do Miss Fortune?"
MF's eyes visibly widened then they closed and she shook her head tears slowly streaked down her face, I could tell that whatever it was that Gangplank did left a big impact on her…a emotion I rarely felt was boiling up inside of me: hate.
Maybe it wasn't exactly hate, but it was somewhat along those lines, this "hate" was directed towards Gangplank. I was used to some of the dumb things that would come out of his mouth and the equally (sometimes worse) dumb things he did, it wasn't only when he was drunk that Gangplank did some questionable things.
He was a pirate, it was in his nature to do things most people wouldn't agree with, but this time, whatever he had done, he took it too far.
I didn't understand what he could've done or said to hurt MF so much, it no doubt had something to do with when they were together, but since I had zero experience in that area I couldn't guess what could've happened between them.
I decided that I shouldn't try asking her what happened until she felt better, whenever that was, even if I did know what happened there was nothing I could probably do about it.
"I don't know what happened Miss Fortune, but I hope you feel better soon, being sad is no fun at all." I smiled weakly and kind of awkwardly patted her on the shoulder. "Oh and the ground probably isn't the most comfortable place to lay on." MF didn't move from her spot, I frowned at this then looked at her bed a idea popped into my head.
I reached up and pulled the cover off of the bed a placed it on top of MF.
"It gets pretty cold at night, so here you go!" It wasn't really that cold, but it was the nicest thing I could think of doing in that moment.
"Uh…well…good night!" I walked to the door and opened it, I was about to leave when I heard MF faintly say,
"Thank you." Those two words brought a smile to my face and I closed the door, hoping that tomorrow would be a better day for my friend.
When I woke up the next morning I realized that today was the last day we get to spend in Bilgewater before we head back to the institute. It was fun being back in Bilgewater, but Amumu and I would eventually have to return to the institute.
I still had enough money left to afford a boat to the mainland and then a train ride back to the institute thanks to MF.
After I woke up and talked with Amumu for a bit, I had the sudden urge to check on MF, she was usually out of the house around this time but when I knocked on her door I was surprised to see her open it.
"Hi Fizz."
"Hey Miss Fortune."
Awkward is all I could say on how more than likely both of us felt in that situation, none of us knew what to say to each other considering yesterday's events. I was the first to break the prolonged silence by asking,
"How…how are you feeling?" MF seemed to think for a minute about this question, as if she didn't have a answer for it herself.
"…Better." She ended up saying. "Thanks to you."
I blushed and turned my head to the side.
"Oh, glad I could help, heh…"
There was another short period of silence that was once again broken by me when I said,
"By the way, Amumu and I are going to go back to the institute."
"Really?"
"Mhm, it was fun getting away from that place, but it's time to go back."
MF nodded her head in understanding.
"I will probably go back in a few days when I get a new ship…"
"Ok, that's cool…"
There was that silence again, this time however it was MF that eventually broke it.
"Fizz, I'm sorry about yesterday…I wasn't feeling well…"
"It's fine, I understand."
"No, that's the thing, you don't." MF bit her lip nervously. "The reason I was like that has nothing to do with you though, okay?"
"It has to do with Gangplank?" MF seemed to freeze at the mention of his name, she nodded her head though. "What did he do Miss Fortune?"
"…I really don't want to talk about this right now Fizz."
"Okay, I understand." I gave a reassuring smile.
"It's in the past now, what he did isn't even that big of a problem anymore."
"What is then?" My head tilted out of curiosity.
"…Getting over him."
"You still love him?"
"…Yes, I do Fizz, I don't know why but I still have some feelings for him." MF crossed her arms and sighed. "After what…he did to me recently I know for certain that I will get over him."
I began to say something, but I immediately stopped talking when I realized that MF had more to say.
"I honestly don't know what I see in him, I guess he isn't too bad looking, but still." MF played with a lock of her hair as she continued. "The relationship was doomed as soon as it began, a pirate and someone who hunts pirates? How would that ever work out?" MF chuckled and shook her head. "I should've saw the signs, but I was too blinded by my love for the bastard."
MF let out another sigh and closed her eyes, I watched her lean against the door for a few minutes.
"How about we go do something? Before you and Amumu leave?" Her voice sounded much more cheerful than it had just a few seconds ago, the sudden change of tone confused me to be honest. I guess she wanted to change the subject and not talk anymore about Gangplank, I was kind of relieved that she did.
"Sure, do you have something planned?"
"I guess you could say that." MF smirked.
MF had indeed something in plan when we went out that day, she took us out to see a movie, then we went to a arcade that I didn't even know existed, and after that MF took Amumu and I out to a restaurant that had the best salmon I ever tasted!
By the time we left the restaurant it was dark outside, the street lamps were the only source of light along with any light that came from the buildings.
"What a day!" MF let out a contempt sigh.
"Thanks for taking us out MF!" MF smirked down at Amumu and I.
"Anytime boys."
I felt something wet hit the top of my head as we walked down the street followed shortly by a few other wet taps on top of my head. I looked up and saw that dark clouds covered up the sky and judging from the sprinkles of water it would rain soon.
"I think it's going to rain." I commented.
"Yeah, let's get back to my house." MF said as she too begin to notice the sprinkles.
Once we made it to her house the rain had started to pick up, we quickly got inside only getting a little bit wet on our way there.
"Weird though, there wasn't a single cloud in the sky before and now all of a sudden the whole sky Is covered with them."
"Maybe we just didn't notice before?" I suggested.
"Probably…"
The three of us…well MF and I really, talked for a little while on her living room couch. After awhile we all headed for our rooms to go to sleep.
MF accompanied us all the way to the docks where all the ships were, the ship Amumu and I had tickets for wasn't as big or fancy as the ones around it, but it was from what MF had told me fast. It was also the only few ships taking passengers to the mainland so our options were limited.
I pushed a suitcase with wheels on the bottom that had all the stuff I bought while I was in Bilgewater, it was hard since the suitcase was obviously made for a human but I managed to push it halfway to the docks before MF offered to take it off my hands.
"Well this is it." MF commented as we stood before the ship Amumu and I were about to get on, a few people already began walking up the ramp to board the ship.
"Yep, thanks for letting us stay at your place MF!" I said with a appreciative smile.
"Don't mention it, you boys are welcome to stay anytime you want."
She bent down and scooped the both of us in her arms for a hug.
"We should hang out more, I mean when we get I go back to the league."
"O-Okay." I said, my cheeks reddening for some reason.
After the hug was over Amumu and I boarded the ship and began our trip back to the institute.
A/N: So Amumu and Fizz's trip to Bilgewater is over, along the way they made a new friend, Miss Fortune, and everything seems to be going pretty good.
How long will that last though?
The first few chapters mostly focused around Amumu and Fizz's friendship, the last three ones on the new friendship developing between Amumu, Fizz, and Miss Fortune, the next chapter or maybe two is going to focus on another important person in Fizz's life.
Until then, have a great day/night everyone!
