Chapter Nine
Questions Part One
"He is a liar, Nivenna! I can't believe you are even listening to him!" Ladro`n was saying. He and Nivenna left the room where Sam was being held at and were now standing in a different room where they could talk in private.
"You don't understand, Ladro`n. That picture he showed us couldn't have been made up." she argued. She wanted for that picture to be a fake, but she know it wasn't. Takinom had warned her in past lessons, not to let what she wanted to be true, block her mind from seeing the real truth.
"What do you mean by that?" he asked arms crossed. Nivenna didn't want to tell him about her dream, but if telling him will make him understand then so be it.
"I had a dream last night were I was an infant. That creature in the picture was also with me as an infant too." she explained, trying not to break down again. Just thinking about that dream made her feel depressed. It was a good thing, Takinom had taught her how to hide her emotions. " I have not told anybody about that dream, so how could he make that up?" she asked, not giving him all the details of the dream.
"Well, he has been in the Underworld for a while. He could have used some kind of mugic that gave you that dream." he tried to think of something to explain it.
Nivenna shock her head. "No, that makes no sence. Why would he do that when there was a good chance that we wouldn't even meet."
"Perhaps, he knows you have connections in my gang and was planning to get caught by us." he suggested.
"Nobody would make a plan like that, it's too risky and doesn't even make sense. Even a five solan old infant would know it'll fall." she shout down the idea.
"Nivenna, tell me what's on your mind. I know for a fact it wasn't just one dream that can make you believe his story. Something else most have happened." he said looking straight into her eyes.
Nivenna cursed inside her head at how well he know her. In truth the first time she saw that creature was in that mirror when she was taking the Plata Test. She wanted to tell him that piece of information, but remembered what that Muge said to her:
"You cannot tell anybody else about the test. Only other Underworld Muges."
She could only guess what they will do to her if she breaks that rule.
"I'm sorry, Landro`n, but I can't tell you. Please just take me at my word that I don't think he is lying to us." she said it in such a polite way and it almost sounded like begging. The way she said it made he to look twice to make sure it was his little sister.
"Fine, let's go back in and interrogate him some more." he said walking out of the room. Nivenna followed him into the room where they left Sam, still tied up.
"Alright, Sam. You're going to answer every single one of our questions and if you don't, well we'll just say there are worser things then death." Ladro`n said playing the bad cop.
Sam gulped nervously, "Okay." he agreed afraid of what he might do to him.
In a sudden and very quick motion, Nivenna had run the distance between Sam and her then grabbed Sam's shirt collar with one hand.
"How do you know about my twin sister?" she angrily asked, apparently they both would be playing the bad cop role.
"I-I," Sam stuttered. He had no idea what to say. When they had left him alone for a few minutes, he had tried to think of a way to lie to them without them knowing, but with Nivenna staring into his eyes with those cold green eyes of hers, it was impossible for him to think straight.
"Well, say something!" Ladro`n snapped, stepping closer to Sam and Nivenna.
Sam was sweating bullets, he was scared for his life.
"I should have taken the chance of porting out and let Nivenna hunt be down in the future." he thought. After he showed them the picture of Aivenna, they took away his scanner, again and put it back with the rest of his stuff on the table. So now he couldn't port out and if he asked for it again then they might catch on to the fact that his scanner could help him escape.
Seeing the fear in Sam's eyes, Nivenna let go of his shirt and took a step back away from his face.
"Alright then, maybe you'll answer a different question. What Tribe are you from?" she asked.
It was a change of tactics, instead of her terrifying him she would try to be more gentle something that she hated, but knew it would pay off. Ladro`n gave her a confused look, wondering what she was planning. Nivenna ignored his gaze. She hated being nicer to the spy or who ever he was, but Takinom had taught her that if a prisoner is too terrified to answer the questions then it's best to tone down the fear a little.
It seemed to be working as Sam said: " I'm not from any of the Tribes." That was odd, but Nivenna wasn't surprised. She knew that he might lie and was expecting for him to say something like that, but looking into his eyes she fond no sign of him being untruthful.
"Then where did you come from?" Ladro`n hatefully asked, sounding more like a growl.
"I c-can's tell you." Sam stuttered. Ladro`n was about to punch Sam in the face, but Nivenna had stopped him be grabbing his wrist and said:
"Don't. If he doesn't want to tell us then we wont push the matter. " It was hard to tell who was more shocked, both Sam and Ladro`n looked like Nivenna had lost her mind. Nivenna then left the room. She know that Ladro`n would follow her out, so she didn't bother with telling him to come with her.
Locking the door, Ladro`n turned back to Nivenna and asked:" Why didn't you let me hit him?"
"Because I don't think force will get him to talk and I need to get back to the mission of finding the Overworld spy." She then walked off.
Following her, he said: " But he is the so-called Overworld spy. Even if he isn't a Overworlder, he's still the one Chaor's after."
"I know that, but if they don't see me searching with them then they'll think I didn't join in the mission. And if that happens then if I'm lucky Takinom wont hear about it and instead Chaor would punish me." she explained.
"Okay then, what do you want me to do with the prisoner?" he asked.
Shrugging, she said: " I guess just keep him here for now. I have to work with Kopond tomorrow and I don't know if I can come back until the next day. And besides I need to talk to Kopond about something" she explained. Thinking about that creature in the picture Sam showed then, she know she needed to talk to Kopond about it, since she first saw her in the Plata Test.
"Alright, but I'm not going to feed him." he said and Nivenna know he wasn't kidding.
"Fine." she huffed. She could care less if Sam lost a few ponds, as long as he didn't die then she would be okay with it. They get to metal door were they came in at. Seeing them coming the guard opened the door and Nivenna walked out, but Ladro`n stayed behind.
"You're not going to walk me out of the sewers?" she asked.
"Non, you can find your way out and besides no one will dare bother you. They know you're my little sis and what will happen to them if they don't protect you with their lives." he said with a grin. Nivenna rolled her eyes and left.
"I hope I'm not related to that creature. If Sam was right about her training to become an Overworld Warrior then that means we will face each other on the battle field one day and that's the least place I want to see her for the first time." She thought, holing in her anger.
Looking down at her hands, she saw that they were shaking slightly.
"Guess that shocked me more than I thought." she thought, crossing her arms to make her shaking hands stop.
Sam's POV when Nivenna and Ladro`n left him.
Watching them leave gave relief to Sam. He didn't know how much longer he could have taken that harsh treatment. Sure he might hold out a few hours of being hit and tortured by that Ladro`n guy, but he didn't want to get hurt at all.
Looking up at the table across the room he thought: "If only I could get my scanner." He knew he couldn't for a few reasons; first was because he was tied up; the second was because, the chair he was tied to was welded to the floor; and thirdly, two guards had just walked into the room and were watching him like hawks.
Signing, he thought about what questions Nivenna and Ladro`n would asked if they came back and how he should answer them.
The first question, Nivenna asked him was how did he know about her sister. Knowing that he will have to answer that question soon enough he began to think about what to say:
" I could tell them that I'm tribe less and that I have been traveling all across Perim and meet Aivenna along they way. They might believe it; that's certainly more believable than me coming from the future from Chaotic and that I'm a Chaotic player that scans creature's codes to play as them in death matches."
Shaking his head, he know Nivenna wouldn't believe him. It was like she know he was telling the truth about him not being from any of the Tribes and he had a sinking feeling that if he lied then Nivenna would be able to tell and she might not stop, Ladro`n from hitting him a second time.
"I could tell them some of the truth. Say that I'm from the future, but that wouldn't explain all of it and it would only make them ask more questions about what will happen in the future. Maybe I could trade them information about some Overworld locations that would be helpful to them, but they may just force that information out of me." he thought, while looked at the floor.
" Great now I have royally massed up the time line, great job Sam." he sarcastically thought.
Just then his stomach growled. Looking at the two guards he nervously asked: "Hey, could one of you get me something to eat?"
They just kept staring at him like he didn't ask them anything.
"Well, at least they didn't hit me or something for talking." he thought as his stomach continued to growl. Now he could only thing about the food he picked in his bag on the table.
Author's Note
Hallow readers, I hope you liked this chapter. Anyways, I'm not too happy about this one, meanly because I wanted it longer and it want way off the tracks from what I wanted to write, but as I begin to write it I realized that Sam wouldn't tell them the truth even if he was being tortured. So I need to think of something that will make him tell them.
