There was less than an hour before I had to take Sam home for the day. It was now or never, I didn't want to lose my chance or my courage. Everyone was telling me it was high time I told her how I felt, and I'd slowly realized they were right.
I took a deep breath, then let it out without saying a word. This was going to be harder than I thought.
I took another deep breath, but this time words actually made it out of my mouth. "Hey, Sam," I said, getting her attention as we walked toward the park. Her head turned to me, letting me know I had her full attention. There was no backing out now. I started speaking slowly, my heart pounding. "Have you ever thought of me as maybe a possible boyfriend?"
She averted her eyes for a fraction of a second, then looked back at me. "Yes," she said, before looking at the ground. I could have sworn I saw a faint blush stain her cheeks.
My heart seemed to pound faster now, a trace of excitement building as I realized I might really have a chance with her. "Has that ship sailed?" I asked.
"No," she said, her eyes meeting mine again.
I swallowed, knowing this last question could change everything. "Would you be interested in dating me now?"
"Yes," she said, her eyes lighting up with the smile on her face.
I didn't know what to say, just smiled back at her before leaning my head back a sighing. "That was a lot harder than I thought it'd be," I said, laughing slightly through the words. Sam did nothing but laugh along with me. I didn't care though, in that moment, I was the happiest I'd been in a while- smiling like an idiot to the whole world.
So, just for the record, I'll be posting Sam's side of this story too here soon.
Anyway, comments and feedback are as welcome as always! :D
