Chapter 10
With the training session done, Spyro and the others head back to the Pool of Visions rooms where Kyson is waiting for them. When the door to the training room opened the group saw Kyson lying on floor. Kyson saw the group and gets up asking them how was the training.
"You're back, Spyro." Kyson said.
"Yeah, I'm back." Spyro responded. Kyson was about to say something until he felt the power increase from Spyro.
"So your training went well?" The dark red dragon asked.
"Yeah, I now know everything about my fire element." The Purple Dragon responded.
"Well that's good to hear…" Kyson looks at the Pool of Visions with an unsure look on his face and everyone noticed.
"You alright dude?" Sparx asked.
"Well I'm confused why there is a small pool in this room." Kyson responded. The group went up close to the pool and dipped his tail in the liquid a few times until Ignitus looked into the pool where his head is very close to Sparx. Sparx went up close to Ignitus's face and he notices this and pulls his head away from him.
"So what's with the pool, big guy?" Sparx asked. Ignitus rolled his eyes and explains anyway.
"If you must know, certain dragons have the ability to see visions… the thoughts, memories, and dreams of others… and to see what's happening in places far, far away." Ignitus explained. "I am one such dragon, and in this pool the visions come forth." Sparx was skeptical about what he said and wants to test it to see if he's telling the truth.
"Oh really, is that so? Okay what am I thinking now?" Sparx asked. Ignitus takes a moment to read what's on Sparx's mind. "What am I thinking now?" Ignitus still is trying to read what he's thinking of but with Sparx rushing him it makes him unfocused. "Okay, now? Now? Now, now, now, now, now?"
"Cut it out, Sparx." Both young dragons said.
"What am I doing that is so wrong? I'm just seeing if he could really see what I'm thinking of but it looks like he can't." Sparx responded.
"I'm afraid it's not that easy, Sparx. It takes time, reflection, patience." Ignitus explained.
"Pfft, whatever." Sparx flies to where the two young dragons are and the group listen to what Ignitus has to say.
"What I do see in the Pool of Visions is that Volteer, one of the Guardians, is being held on Dante's Freezer." Ignitus explained.
"He's a Guardian, huh? What's his element, Ignitus?" Kyson asked.
"Volteer's element is electricity." Ignitus answered.
"Oh, thanks Ignitus." Kyson responded. Ignitus looks at Spyro and tells him what he needs to do.
"Hold on, what's Dante's Freezer?" Spyro asked.
"Dante's Freezer is a desolate arctic expanse that's littered with the machinery of war... soldiers and weapons frozen forever in the posture of destruction." Ignitus explained.
Spyro and Kyson understood but Sparx didn't really understand what he talking about.
"Spyro, while I look for details on the others, I want you and your friends to venture there and find out what all of you can." Ignitus ordered.
"Remember, just look around. If you encounter Cynder, run, neither of you are ready to face her yet."
"Okay, so when people are trying to kill me I run. Got it." Sparx said
"But Ignitus, how do we get there?" Spyro asked.
"I'm glad you asked." Ignitus said while having a smile on his face.
"Why are you smiling? I don't like it." Sparx said.
"Spyro, you could fly." Ignitus answered. Spyro was shocked but confused at the same time with Ignitus's answer.
"Let me get this straight, you're saying that I… can fly?" Spyro asked. Ignitus winks in response.
"Maybe you've been hanging in those caves a little too long, Old Man. Spyro can't fly. We all know that." Sparx said.
"Yeah, a bit of fresh air might do you good. I've never flown in my life." Spyro said in agreement with Sparx.
It's you that will be getting some fresh air, Spyro." Ignitus responds.
"But I'm not even sure if I have the ability to fly." Spyro said in doubt.
"I wouldn't be so sure if I were you." Kyson said.
"What do you mean, Kyson?" Spyro asked.
"We're the same species right?" Kyson asked.
"Yeah, we're both dragons." Spyro responded.
"And we both have wings right?" Kyson asked.
"Yeah, but I only use them for gliding." Spyro answered
"Well…" Kyson flew into the air above Spyro to prove that he is capable of flying.
"Dragons are capable of flying otherwise their wings are pretty useless then." Kyson said. Spyro and Sparx are jaw dropped seeing Kyson being able to fly.
"But how do I fly though?" Spyro asked.
"Flap your wings." Kyson answered. Spyro flaps his wings but nothing happens. Spyro tries again and again but nothing happens.
"Um, Ignitus, do you know how to teach dragons how to fly because I can't." Kyson asked. Ignitus looks at Spyro and starts to walk towards the balcony. The group followed Ignitus outside as he then tells Spyro what to do in order to fly.
"Now… close your eyes, take a deep breath, and empty your mind…" Ignitus said. Ignitus sees Spyro doing it successfully. "…yes, yes, that's it. Now feel the power of your ancestors coursing through your body. In times of crisis they will come to you and teach you… unlocking powers you never knew you had."
"Oh boy, this I gotta see." Sparx said sarcastically.
"Shut up, Sparx." Kyson mumbled in annoyance.
"Just forget everything you ever thought you knew… forget yourself. Only through forgetting will you remember what your ancient blood already knows…" The Guardian Dragon continues. Spyro's wings start to flap as he started to go up. "…you can fly." Spyro's paws are off the ground and he opens his eyes in shock that he is actually flying. Ignitus and Kyson smiled for Spyro flying while Sparx is speechless.
"I'm…I'm actually flying." Spyro said. Spyro couldn't help but cheer for his first time flying. "Yay! I could actually fly now!" Spyro cheered while flying around. Spyro flew around everyone for a minute and then stops to listen to Ignitus.
"Now, Spyro, go to Dante's Freezer and rescue Volteer. Remember if you see Cynder don't engage with her, you are not ready yet." Ignitus ordered. Spyro nods in understanding and the three boys flew away from the Temple.
*In the skies*
As Spyro and Kyson flew around freely above the clouds, Sparx is still shocked to see his brother flying.
"Are you kidding?! He's flying! Welcome to club, big guy!" Sparx shouted
"Would that be the annoying pest club?" Spyro sarcastically asked.
"No, smart aleck, the flying club." Sparx replied.
"Yeah, I could get used to this." Spyro said while smiling.
"Hey, Spyro, want me to teach a trick or two while flying?" Kyson asked.
"Sure! Why not" The purple dragon replied.
The three dove down from the clouds and saw a bunch of islands and the ocean below as they flew. The dark red dragon taught him how to roll in the air and how to speed up and slow down while flying.
"So do you think you understand what I taught you?" Kyson asked.
"Yeah, thanks." Spyro responded.
The three flew near the water where they saw giant turtle creatures and flew by islands so their flight was pretty peaceful until Sparx noticed a few black things in the sky that looks like they are coming for them.
"Hey is it just me or does it looks those black things are coming for us?" Sparx asked.
The dragons looked and saw it too but didn't what it was. Kyson stared at the black things and then notices what they are.
"Those are apes." Kyson announced in a shocked tone.
"APES!?" Spyro and Sparx responded in a shocked tone.
"Yeah and we better start dodging them now!" Kyson shouted.
All three flew side to side, avoiding from getting hit from the apes. A few apes almost caught them but got shot by Spyro's fireballs and Kyson's breath attack. This was going on for a while but the ape attack finally stopped, which gave Spyro and the others time to breathe. As they continued flying the air got a lot more colder than before and the brothers noticed.
"It's kinda cold don't ya think?' Sparx asked.
"Yeah, it's cold now. Colder than usual." Spyro replied.
The group flew a little bit further and saw icebergs up ahead.
"Is this this the place?" Kyson asked while still dodging the apes.
"Seems like it." Spyro replied.
The group entered Dante's Freezer and as they continued to fly explosions were made near them. Pieces of ice blocks were heading towards them but the group easily dodged them but then giant ice lands were collapsing.
"Oh crud…" Sparx said.
They managed to find ways to get past each ice collision area safely but two ice lands were closing the gap in front of them. The group managed to get through, barely, but the collision of both ice lands send millions of ice pieces everywhere and some were coming for them. Spyro and Kyson breathed fire to counter against the ice pieces. The group took a turn and looked around their surrounding to make sure that everything was safe. When they looked around everything was safe.
"That… was close." Kyson said catching his breath.
"I think we should land there." Spyro suggested while pointing at where they should land.
The group began to descend towards the ice lands but Apes controlled canons below and started to fire at them. The dragons fought back with their breath attacks while Sparx just panicked and flew around everywhere. The dragons managed to take down all the apes manning the cannons
"Uhh guys…" Kyson and Sparx looked at Spyro and noticed how he was struggling to get ready to land.
"HOW THE HECK DO I LAND!? COMING IN TOO FAST!" Spyro shouted
"This… isn't going to end well." Kyson and Sparx said at the same time.
"INCOMING!"
"This is going to hurt." Sparx said.
Sparx and Kyson made it safely but Spyro crashed landed into the ground and slided on the ice into a small snow pile. The two ran over to the snow pile to check if Spyro is okay.
"Spyro, are you okay, it that landing looked rough?" Kyson asked.
Spyro's head popped out of the snow pile and he shivered.
"I-I-I'm-m, O-O-k-ay." Spyro answered while shivering.
"Nice landing, ace." Sparx said.
"Now's not the time, Sparx." Kyson responded in a annoyed tone.
Kyson and Sparx dig the snow to get Spyro out but it took a quite some time. When they got Spyro out he was still shivering for being the snow for a while so Kyson shot a small beam of fire next to Spyro so it could warm him up. After a few minutes Spyro is warm again but Kyson used up some of his mana.
"Thanks Kyson, but you didn't need to warm me up you know." Spyro said.
"Yeah, but then we wouldn't be able to rescue Volteer faster then." Kyson replied.
"Hey, if you two are finished talking lets go save this Volteer person and get out of here." Sparx said.
"But which way do we go?" Spyro asked.
There were plenty of gate entrances and bunch of scattered, abandoned weapons around so the place looks like a mess.
"We go this way." Kyson answered as he pointed towards the gate in front of them.
"How are you so sure?" Sparx asked in a skeptical tone.
"I could feel his power. He is somewhere far from us but in this direction." Kyson responded.
"I could feel his power too." Spyro said.
"I feel like you two are going crazy." Sparx announced.
The dragons rolled their eyes as they all now enter Dante's Freezer.
