Chapter 10: Blurred Chances

Kagura's POV

I felt the lump forming in my throat. I felt queasy as I listen to Asami's fading footsteps away from the room. Matsuhime's face was gloomed at my sudden declaration of leaving. She was really good to me and I know that she wanted me to stay, but I can't do that. I can't be chained from freedom again. I gave myself away and was I wrong to do it. I trusted a man and he gave me his word, but all men are liars. Who knew even Sesshomaru would fool me and use me like Naraku did. Though this hurt me million times more than Naraku's tentacles piercing through me. Killing me. The pain scorched from deep within my heart and how I wished I didn't have my heart, it's unbearable. So this is why I must leave… I must leave before I lose everything else again.

"You don't have to," Matsuhime's voice was soft. Her finger brushing my bangs away from my face so she could have a good look at me. I had to look away. I hate people seeing me this way. This isn't me. I am the wind, god dammit! I am free!

"I promise I'll come visit you. I just need to go away for now,"

"What about Sesshomaru?" she tightened her grip on my hand, her eyes begged me to stay. "You can't just leave without talking to him,"

"What else is there to say?" I almost sneered. I'm beginning to feel angry towards the man whom I just spent the night with.

"Don't you wanna hear it from him? You can't just leave without talking to him, Kagura."

"What about Asami… he gave Asami his words… everyone in the kingdom is preparing for the wedding, there's just no way…"

"Talk to him, that's all I ask,"

Matsuhime launched herself forward giving me a bone crushing hug. I could never understand why she had taken me in and treated me like her own child. Though, it's nice to have someone like her, a mother…

She kissed my forehead. A habit I eventually got used to after she had done it so many times, an act that's surprisingly soothing and calming. I felt safe in my mother's arms, I almost didn't want to leave.

"Come home soon," and with that, she nodded her head and with her long hair swinging behind her, she walked out of the door.

The human village was strangely quiet and Sesshomaru was relieved when there were no humans that greeted him. He despised humans and therefore had no intention of running in to one. Inuyasha was perched on a branch of a tree just outside the priestess's old hut, he immediately leaped down when he sensed his older brother's presence.

"Keh! Took ya long enough!" Inuyasha crossed his arms. Sesshomaru ignored the half demon and followed after Rin's scent emanating from the hut. He sensed her disease and his eyes bled red as he glared daggers at his younger brother.

"Fuck off, Sesshomaru! She's a kid. Kids get sick, it's not my fault."

Sesshomaru stepped inside the hut and was assaulted by the different scent of herbs the old priestess was preparing for the child.

"Sesshomaru, you've arrived." the younger priestess named Kagome stood up from where Rin was laying down.

"How is she?" he questioned.

"Don't worry, it's just a little fever, Rin will be alright."

"Sesshomaru-sama?" the little girl croaked and her face lightened up when she saw her beloved master's face for the first time in few weeks he left her in the human village.

"Rin, you're alright now."

The little girl sat up and watched as Sesshomaru kneeled down to level her stare. Kagome watched in disbelief as she witness for the first time this fatherly side of Sesshomaru. Maybe his business of getting married and settling with someone is not as bad as Inuyasha made it seem like. Sesshomaru seemed so gentle and kind, almost out of character and it made Kagome smile. But she wonder if Sesshomaru wanted to get married, and who was he going to marry.

"Master Jaken said you're getting married, Lord Sesshomaru. Has the pretty lady returned?"

Sesshomaru kept himself from showing any sign of shock but knew that Rin was talking about Kagura. He was surprised to see that Rin remembered the wind sorceress and even seem to approve of his relationship with her even after Kagura had purposely kidnapped her before.

"Pretty lady?" Kagome couldn't help but chimed in, she was curious to know who Sesshomaru's lover was.

Rin nodded and offered the priestess a toothy grin. "She's really pretty and she knows how to dance, and she controls the wind. It's pretty cool."

"Rin, you should rest now." Sesshomaru placed his hand on the little girls forehead.

The little girl immediately obeyed and laid back down. "Sesshomaru-sama, when you come back, promise you bring the pretty lady as well, Rin would like to give her flowers."

Sesshomaru nodded and turned to face the priestess who still had no idea who the "pretty lady" was even after Rin's short description. He nodded to her as a form of farewell and left without a word.

He was relieved that nothing serious happened to Rin, though he was glad to see her well. He then transformed into a light ball to return home to straighten things up with everybody. He promised Kagura to sever ties with the east so that they could be together. An act Sesshomaru would've never done in a million years. His mind was made up and today was the day he'll make Kagura his mate.

"It's all over Tashio, your son is about to bind our kingdom with the east!" Matsuhime fumed as she paced around her room. "I ruled for 700 years you damned dog! I spent so much effort rebuilding this kingdom! All for nothing!"

"Maybe it's for the best. This is Sesshomaru's duty. He is strong enough to overcome whatever the East had planned. He won't be easily killed. My son is intelligent, give him some credit,"

"And what about Kagura?"

"You've helped the sorceress enough, if they aren't meant for each other then they aren't. Just leave it alone Hime."

Matsuhime brushed her hair away from her face then sighed knowing after all her hard work of bringing Kagura back to life was now put to waste. She wanted Kagura for her son, and she knew no one else is for him but the wind sorceress who now fled the western kingdom. It made the lady sad knowing that not only did Sesshomaru lost his chance, she too lost her beloved daughter.

"Mother," his voice was hard and blunt. Matsuhime looked up from a reflection to see her son standing behind her. She was mad at him, he was a fool for letting his one chance of happiness go.

"Sesshomaru, what do I owe this visit? Shouldn't you be out there preparing for your wedding?"

"This Sesshomaru have come to inform you that there will be no wedding, I decided to cut ties between the east and I'm willing to go to war against them if it's necessary."

Matsuhime scoffed. "You've never been prone to such foolishness, tell your mother what's ailing your judgment ?"

"This Sesshomaru would like to ask the hand of the wind sorceress, Kagura for marriage."

Matsuhime smirked and stood from her futon. Her long hair and moko-moko trailing behind her as she encircle her son studying his every angle. "The wind sorceress you say?"

Sesshomaru watched his mother from the corner of his eye, he wasn't sure what her reaction would be, even for him she was really hard to read at times. Matsuhime on the other hand though, knew she wasn't going to get a lot of answer from Sesshomaru.

"I'm afraid you've lost your chance, the wind sorceress is gone."

Immediately she felt his demonic aura spike, his hand was clenched tightly and his eyes tinged of red. "Free as the wind," she mocked.

"Where has she gone to?"

"When my daughter found out that you asked Asami's hand the night before, she decided it will be for the best if she didn't stay here anymore,"

"You dare tell me that impetuous wench had fled without telling this Sesshomaru?"

"Have you forgotten you were the one who didn't tell her about your liaison with the other woman."

Sesshomaru was surprised that his mother knew a lot about his relationship with Kagura but decided to keep it aside, for now the real issue was that Kagura left without talking to him. He had thrown away his pride, and was willing to destroy his family's name once again for the sake of that woman and then she just leave like it was nothing. Sesshomaru hunched his head towards his mother and headed for the door making sure he has his cold mask on.

"Sesshomaru, wait." she called after him.

He stopped his tracks while trying to control his temper roaring inside of him.

"Are you not going to follow after her?"

"Why should this Sesshomaru follow after that woman?"

Matsuhime raised a fine brow. "What are you going to do then?"

"What I should've done."

Matsuhime used her demonic speed to stand in front of her son. She knew that he decided to forget about the wind sorceress. "Do not fool yourself, Sesshomaru you love that woman! Go after Kagura!"

Sesshomaru watched as his mother pleaded under his eyes. Her eyes mirrored his own, her hair had a slight crisp wind scent from the wind sorceress's embrace. He could see that she was all for Kagura all along and not Asami, he puzzled that Matsuhime probably brought the wind sorceress back to life to be with him. It was strange that his mother talked about love like she knew herself what it was like to be in love. Matsuhime is a strong demoness and he was proud to call her his mother. But then as he looked through his mother's eyes, he sees a man whom she loved and caused her a great deal of burden, a man who he once called father, and once saw as a role model, a man who carried a once respected family name that is now tainted because of betrayal caused by this love foolishness. He knew this stupid human emotion would only cause him trouble. "Father was a fool, mother. This Sesshomaru will not make the same mistakes he did."

The wind sorceress took one last glance towards the castle she had once called home. She smiled to herself feeling foolish for running away and not even giving Sesshomaru a chance to explain. A part of her wanted him to go after her, and from what they shared last night she almost wanted to say that he would. But she couldn't bring herself to say it, it was a sign of weakness. The more she thought about the man the more her feet would drag her back to the castle and take back what was hers. She cursed herself for being weak when it comes to Sesshomaru, she refused the fact that she had become reliant on a man for happiness.

The wind sorceress jumped over the cliff and with a grunt she plucked out her feather just in time to take her away. She is the free wind. Nothing in this world can hold her down. Not even Sesshomaru.
