Caroline landed in New Orleans excited and sad to start this new life. She was glad to be with Klaus, but she was sad to leave her friends and her old life. Right now as she walked through the airport to Klaus all she knew was that she loved him and couldn't be happier to be here with him.
"Hello love," Klaus smiled greeting Caroline at his car.
"Hey," she replied hugging him before getting in the car.
"How have you been," he asked.
"I've been okay. Telling my friends and family what I decided was hard, but I know it had to be done," she answered taking his hand. It felt comfortable and safe being there with him, and she couldn't wait to spend the rest of forever with him.
Once at the compound Klaus helped Caroline get settled upstairs in his room. Caroline started to unpack when she felt Klaus behind her. When she turned around he kissed her, and she couldn't help but give in this time unlike last time when she back away. She kissed him back letting him know how much she wanted him.
"We will finish that later," she whispered in his ear then turning back to finish unpacking.
"You're such a tease," he laughed.
"Well, I have to keep you coming back for more, she winked.
"Oh, I'll always come back for me," he smiled kissing her again.
Later that day Klaus diced that they should have a family dinner to welcome Caroline into the family. He wanted it to be a really nice formal occasion, and he wanted Caroline to feel like she was a part of the family.
"Caroline, I have something for you," Klaus smiled walking into their room caring a box.
"Klaus, it's beautiful," she exclaimed opening the box.
"I know how much you liked the dress you wore to your prom so I took it and had one just like it made in red silk your favorite color," he responded.
"How did you get ahold of this dress," she asked surprised that he had done something like this.
"After you left I called her mom and had her ship it to me," he answered.
"This is beautiful. I love it," Caroline exclaimed.
"I'm really glad you like it, and I hope you'll wear it tonight at dinner. I've asked for all my family to come to dinner so I can introduce you into the family," he responded with a smile.
"What time is the dinner and where is it," she asked.
"Dinner will be at eight tonight in the courtyard right down stairs," he answered.
"That sounds lovely I can't wait," she expressed hugging him, "Now please leave me be while I finish unpacking and getting ready," she continued pushing Klaus out the door.
As soon as he left Caroline shut the door and finished unpacking so she could shower and get dressed for dinner. She was kind of nervous about dinner and the whole time she was getting ready she couldn't shake the feeling something bad was going to happen. She eventually had to drink some of the blood she bought with her to calm her nervous. Why was she so nervous she didn't know? She had met his family before but this time was different. This time he would be introducing her as is girlfriend and the thought of it sent a chill down her back. The more she thought about the more she realized that Rebekah was the main reason for her nerves. She had met Rebekah before no problem, but this time she was meeting her for a completely different reason. The thing that worried her the most was the bond between her and Klaus. She knew they were close and that Rebekah was very loyal and looked to him the same way Klaus looked to Elijah. If she really thought about it she was scared that her relationship with Klaus would come between his relationship with Rebekah, and she very well knew how much that would upset Rebekah if it were to happen. She also knew that Rebekah had a bad temper and was easily angered and knew she didn't want someone like that against her. All she knew now was that she was going to have to get Rebekah to like her and to stay on Rebekah's good side.
Later that night Caroline headed down to courtyard for what was going to be a long night. When she walked down the stairs she couldn't help to notice the way Klaus looked at her. She never had someone look at her the way he did right now. The look on his face was that of awe and beauty, but there was also love in his eye. As so moved down the stairs she couldn't help but to notice that sweet half smile she grow to love so much. It was a smile she knew was only meant for her.
"You look move lovely than ever," Klaus smiled taking her hand and kissing her on the cheek.
"Thank you, you look quite handsome yourself," she smiled back as he escorted her to the party.
As they walked towards the others Caroline was beginning to feel a more nervous than she thought she would be. She knew he invited the whole family but something about seeing Rebekah sent a shiver down her back. Just before they made it to the table where everyone was seated Caroline pause for a minute.
"Caroline, is everything alright," Klaus asked turning to look at her.
"I don't know if I can do this," she sighed, "I know the way you value what Elijah thinks, and that scares me because if he doesn't accept me you'll turn me away. I also know how Rebekah feels about me, and I'm worried I won't be able to get her to like me," she continued.
"Caroline, love, I understand how you feel, but with me by your side everything will be okay. I understand how hard it is to get along with my family; I've been doing it for a thousand years. There's no need to worry. Just be the Caroline I know and love and they will love you just has much as I do," Klaus exclaimed hoping to calm some of her nerves.
When they got to the table Klaus pulled out her chair allowing her to sit down. He could tell she was still a bit nervous, but he was hoping that by the end of the evening all those nerves would be gone.
"Good evening, I hope you are all looking forward to this even as much as I am," Klaus said taking his seat.
"Well, Nik, I surely hope this isn't a waste of my time," Rebekah smarted off not all too thrilled to be there.
"It's funny you should say that because I brought you all here for a very important reason. I've gathered you all here to introduce to you my heart, Caroline," Klaus stated smiling at Caroline.
"Bloody hell, Nik, you can't be serious," Rebekah exclaimed.
"Rebekah, I am serious, and I would very much appreciate if you would try to get along with her because I plan to have her in my life for a very long time. Elijah was a little taken back at first, but he's come to accept. I hope you will be able to accept it too," Klaus stated hoping to calm his sister down.
"Well, you and I both know how I feel about her, but because I love you and want nothing more than for you to be able I will try to set aside my distaste for her," Rebekah responded glaring at Caroline.
"I'm at as thrilled about this as you, Rebekah. I love your brother and I want to be with him forever, and I know that comes with is family and I also know how much you hate me and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make you like me," Caroline expressed.
"Now, can we all calm down and try to enjoy dinner," Elijah chimed in, "This is going to be difficult for all of us, but if we just try to get along everything will run smoothly," he added.
"There you go, Elijah, always trying to be the calm, rational one like always," Rebekah hissed.
"Well someone has to be," Elijah sighed.
"I'm sorry if this upsets you, Rebekah, but that's not going to change how I feel. I love her more than anything in this world, and I can't imagine life without here. Please try to support that for me, please," Klaus expressed hoping Rebekah would come to her senses.
"Now let's eat," Elijah exclaimed as food was brought to the table.
The rest of dinner they were all quiet not sure what to say. Caroline was afraid that if she spoke she would say something to upset Rebekah anymore that she already was. As soon as she finished eating excused herself from the table and walked up to her room. After all that she wanted nothing more than to be alone with Klaus so she took out her phone and texted him to meet her upstairs when he was finished. About ten minutes later there was a knock on the door and Klaus walked in. She was relieved to see him, and was looking forward to spending the rest of the night alone with him.
"Sorry about my sister," Klaus sighed coming to sit next to Caroline on the bed.
"I don't know what to do," Caroline cried leaning to Klaus.
"Everything will be okay, love. Just give it time Rebekah will come around," Klaus responding putting his arm around her.
"I want to believe you I truly do, but how can I when I know she hates me so much," Caroline expressed.
"I know my sister better than most people, and I know how much our family means to her. Rebekah will always want what's best for this family, but she also has a weakness for love. She believes in her heart that everyone deserves love even someone as evil as me. She also looks up to me the way I look up to Elijah and will always care about my happiness. I know will every fiber of my being that she will learn to like you because of the bond her and I share and how much she wants to see me happy," Klaus stated bring Caroline closer to him.
"Klaus, I wish people could see you the way I see you. When I look at you I see this person that makes the world hate him because he his scared to let others in and show them love because you were never show love. But I also see this guy that has a heart full of love he just needs the right person to share that with," Caroline expressed kissing him on the cheek.
"I'm this person, Caroline because you've made me this way. All my life people have run in fear of me, but you, you were the only person brave enough to truly stand up to me but also so me love. You have shown me that even the blackest of hearts can find love and be loved. Caroline, my love, I love you more than words can say I will spend the rest of forever showing how much you mean to me," he smiled leaning down to kiss her.
"I love you too," Caroline whispered kissing him back. She kissed him in a way she had never kissed anyone before; in a way that made you long to spend forever alongside him.
That night was the first night Caroline and Klaus really spent together. They got to know each other in a way they never had before. They kissed for what felt like a life time, and they never stopped getting lost within each other. They knew, despite the horror that was dinner, that they were going to remember this night forever.
