Chapter 9
Santana POV
Spending a week in bed was comfort for me. I did not have to deal with Facing Quinn. Or seeing the guys and having them ask me a shitload of questions about the break up. I cannot believe my mom annoyed the fuck out of me, until the point I had to leave. I would have locked myself in my room for another month. Probably longer. I have not run into Q all day which is good. Maybe she's not in school. No one's given me any updates on her.
"Focus Santana!" My english teacher yells from the front of the classroom. I'm brought out of my thoughts and pretend to listen to her rant about how technology has replaced literature.
I feel a hand press on my shoulder. "This is for you." I turn around and Veronica, of course why not, hands me a small envelope. Curious, I open to discover what's inside.
"Girl, what the hell—". I quiet myself before my teacher notices. Damn, she is completely immersed in what she's saying. I shoot my head around to look at Veronica. I do not want to draw any attention to myself. After class, is when I would give Veronica a piece of my mind.
The bell rings. I stand up and begin to speak, but she puts her finger over my lips. She leans in to whisper in my ear, "Keep them. I took them off just for you. You can put them back on me…in private." With that I feel her tongue lick my earlobe. I jerk back and throw the envelope at her. I storm away from her. The last thing I want is to have Veronica's underwear in my possession. I linger around the halls for a few. I skipped Glee club.
In that moment, I look down the hall to see Quinn leaning against her locker. I stare at her for a few seconds. I'm not even close to her and I can smell her on me. Familiar. God I miss that scent. I start to flashback to the last time we were together. I miss her touch.
She turns to look at me and takes off running. I find the courage to yell after her.
"Wait, Q!" She doesn't look back. It's pointless.
The bell rings and people are spilling out into the hallway. I'm standing frozen until I feel a push from behind. I turn around with a balled up fist.
"Where the hell have you been?" Sam is standing in front of me with Artie at his side.
"I've been wallowing in my sorrows." They look at me and roll their eyes. I turn to switch the books out of my locker.
"We're going to hang at Puck's tonight. Are you coming?" Artie says.
I look at them bewildered as though they just offered me a plate of shit. "Why would you ask me that after he fucked up my relationship!"
Mercedes is in ear shot and chimes in, "No Santana, YOU fucked up your relationship." I scoff at her comment.
"Puck lied on me."
"You cheated on Quinn before, yea it was a long time ago but it happened. You're asking too much of the HBIC, she has to constantly put up with your lies and other girls. I'm sorry but if I was her I would have let you go after the first mistake."
"That's exactly what it was! A mistake! I love Quinn and she knows that. She didn't even give me a chance to explain the situation. How is that fair?" Mercedes nods her head.
"Well, it's too late for that now."
"Like hell it is." I stand closer to Mercedes and she puts her hands up. She walked away and I let out a sigh.
"I need to find Puck."
"Last we saw he was heading towards the nurse."
"Catch up with you guys later." I head towards the nurse to find Puck in the last period of the day.
"Miss can't you just write me a note to go home." I hear him pleading to the nurse.
"No, because there's nothing wrong with you, Puckerman."
He sees me standing in the doorway and I turn around to meet him in the hallway.
He follows, "Santana, look…"
"Why Puck?" He puts his head down.
"I…don't know. I thought it would be…funny."
"Funny? Q broke up with me!" He couldn't possibly think that would be a good joke.
"I know, I'm sorry. I'll go to her and tell her I was lying."
"You mean you haven't yet?!" He shakes his head. "Why not?" He shrugged his shoulders and begins walking away. I grab his arm to stop him from leaving. "Puck, why?"
"I can't answer that."
"Oh no, you're giving me an explanation now."
"Just drop it San."
"Not going to happen. Why haven't you told Quinn the truth?"
He looks at me. Silence and keeps shaking his head.
"Puck!"
"Because I'm in love with you Santana!" His voice resonates into the empty hallway.
The nurse stands in the doorway and we both notice her. She then looks at us and shakes her head as she closes her door reluctantly.
"Puck? How could you be in love with me?...I'm gay."
"You don't think I know that? I've kept this secret for a while now."
"How long Puck?" He hesitates.
"Since sophomore year. We were sitting by the pool and at first I thought I was attracted to your body, obviously." I give him a 'duh' look. "But then we kept spending more time together and I trusted you. I shared personal things about myself that I've never shared with anyone else. I never thought I was in love because I knew we would never work. But as time went on..."
"Puck, listen damn I had no idea. I'm sorry that you felt like you couldn't tell me. You're my best friend. I don't know what to say after this confession of love."
"You can say you love me too." He looks hopeful, but he should know better.
"I'm in love with Quinn. Wait, did you lie on purpose? To break up me and Q?" He hesitates again.
"Yes, I did."
"Ugh Puck, what the fuck?"
"I know, I know. But look it wasn't my idea."
"Then whose idea was it."
"I can't say." He looks away.
"Fran." Puck's head shoots towards me.
"How'd you know?"
"Oh I always knew. And Melissa is a part of this somehow too."
"Yea the plan was to break you guys up and then let you figure out if you wanted to be with me or Melissa."
"Well. part of your plan failed. I don't want to be with either of you." He frowns. "Puck, you're still my best." He smiles knowing he has no choice but to accept this.
"I'm sorry San, I'll tell Q I lied. Maybe it will fix things. Not that that's something I really want to do."
"Thank you, I gotta go." I start to leave. He stops me.
"Hey look San the guys want to get together at my house later."
"Puck, I need some time. I really do have to go." This day already been too much. I walk away.
I decide to make a pit stop to eat at breadsticks. Then I stop by Sam's house to whip his ass in video games.
Finally home.
Flashback
It was afternoon, Melissa was sitting on her bed studying for an exam tomorrow. She glances at Santana, who was taking a nap next to her. She is in her cheerios uniform and just came from a tough practice with Sue. Her girlfriend looked peaceful and beautiful as she slept. Melissa could not help but stare. Santana stirred awake while Melissa was watching her sleep. She quickly turned her attention towards the book she was studying. Santana reached up and kissed the girl on her cheek.
"Hey Baby. How's studying going?"
Melissa puts on a smile, "Eh, can't say I'm having fun." Santana chuckles and moves to stand. "Where are you going?" Melissa sets her book aside, "I was thinking maybe after I finish we could..." She stands in front of Santana. She wraps her arms around her girlfriend and starts kissing Santana's neck.
Santana is having difficulty finding her next words. "Babe...yes I erm...agree, we could definitely do that."
Melissa starts moving her hands down to Santana's ass which causes her to giggle. In one movement. She pulls Santana on top of her and kisses her lips. Their bodies move in synchrony. Santana pulls away from kissing Melissa and she meets her eyes. She gently pushes away hair from Melissa's face.
"I love you." Santana is searching Melissa's face for a response.
Melissa smiles, "I love you too, Santana."
"I want to remember this moment forever. I've never felt this way before and I don't ever want to feel like this with anyone other than you Mel." The girl beneath her starts to get tears-eyed and Santana looks worried.
"I'm sorry baby. These are happy tears."
"Are you sure that's all?"
Melissa hesitates and kisses Santana again, "Yes I'm sure."
They hug and Melissa continues to bury her worries away until the time is right.
General POV
Melissa's car pulled up in front of Santana's home. She looked at the house and then down at a box wrapped as a present on her passenger seat. She took a deep breath and looked ahead with her hands on the steering wheel. Her phone vibrates and she took it out of her pocket. She read a text from Fran, "We need to talk."
She shakes her head and steps out of her car. Melissa stood in front of Santana's door and hesitated. She musters up enough courage to knock.
The door opens...
