Chapter 9
Link was wondering Hilda wondered off to, did she go to her palace? He didn't know, he just hoped she was okay, Lorule was filled with monsters. He had successfully saved the last sage and retrieved the Triforce of courage, now he just had to….what'd he have to do again? Oh right, his whole objective was to save Zelda, the princess whom he knew less about than Hilda. She was trapped in a painting and she was just waiting for him. He felt horrible, while she was waiting, he was out adventuring with another princess. He went to Lorule, through one of the cracks.
"I guess I need to go to Hilda's Palace, to free Zelda" Link murmured. "Man feels weird saying that." He walked across the bridge as soon as he approached the swung his sword at the barrier and it collapsed. "It's almost time for the final battle" Link said as he walked up the steps.
…..
Hilda watched patiently waiting just watching through her crystal ball. She sighed, she didn't want to go through with this. But did she really have a choice?
Yuga walked up behind her. So your boyfriend finally made it.
Hilda nodded. "Yes"
Yuga stared at her. His eyes lowering to slits. "Again you didn't deny it."
Hilda glanced at Yuga with a glare. "Why would I? He is." A slight blush rising in her cheeks.
Yuga smirked. "He's going to die."
Hilda turned to him. "No. he's going to beat you!" she said defiantly.
Hilda's felt her arms and legs go stiff. Yuga looked at her with a dark smile. "We'll see about that."
Hilda looked at him with fear.
…..
Link walked slowly into the throne room, now in his red tunic he found earlier. He saw Zelda's portrait on the wall, Hilda was standing with her staff her back turned to him.
"So you've gotten the Triforce of courage have you?" her hand slowly reached up, but it looked hard as if she was trying to resist touching the painting.
"Hilda? You okay?" Link asked.
Without saying another word she touches the painting and the Triforce on Zelda's portrait disappears and appears in Hilda's hand. She stiffly turns to link tears in her eyes as she shakes (or at least tries to) her head. "Let…Let me tell you a story" her choking on her words. "It…..It's the legend of how Lorule fell to its current condition." She choked on her words more as tears slipped down her face.
"L-long ago, Lorule possessed a sacred golden treasure. It could grant the wish of anyone who touched it." Like the Triforce! Link thought "It was knowns as the Triforce in our world, as it is in yours." Oh. "Many sought to control the Triforce," Hilda continued. "Plunging Lorule into endless war. Our kingdom was on the verge of ruin. M-my a-ancestors got rid of the Triforce to stop the war- by destroying it." She practically sobbed as if she were trying to fight her own words as well as her movements. "Utterly, and absolutely…it was done with good intentions, but it had disastrous consequences….The Triforce was the foundation of our world, and without it, our kingdom crumbled. C-Chaos has since reigned in Lorule…" she finished.
"Why are you telling me this…?" Link asked.
Hilda bit her lip and swallowed. "W-we needed a Triforce. Imagine my surprise when I learned the existence of another…Yours."
"No…" Link stepped back tears swelling in his eyes "You didn't"
A tear ran down her cheek. "I….I'm sorry" her hand enveloped the Triforce of Wisdom getting absorbed into her body. Right after that she disappeared. "Hilda!" Link ran to where she was. "Hilda come back! Why'd you lie to me?! What about "us" is that all a lie?"
I wish, said a voice.
Yuga rose from the ground. "Yuga-Ganon!" link exclaimed drawing the fully tempered master sword. "Explain"
Yuga sighed. "Fine you barbaric little "hero" it's true that her initial intentions where to deceive you and steal your Triforce, but then you had to be so, 'sweet' and 'charming'. You ruined EVERYTHING"
Link smiled slightly. "She said I was sweet and charming?"
"Yes" Yuga said annoyed. "Now," Yuga's spear appearing. "Let's end this"
Link instantly charged not thinking. Yuga spun his spear grazing Link's arm. "Ow!" his arm stinging, his red tunic darkening with blood. "You're gonna pay for that!"
Yuga smirked. "Bill me"
Link swung his sword, it going deep into Yuga's arm. Yuga yowled in pain. "You wretched brat! You'll pay for that."
"Bill me" Link said mimicking Yuga. It went back and forth like that. Yuga attacking Link attacking until…
Yuga groaned in pain leaning on his staff on the ground. "This is going nowhere." Hilda appeared. Her eyes clearly puffy and red.
"Hilda!" Link exclaimed happy to see she's okay.
"Link…" she smiled sadly.
"Not quite the time for reunions" Yuga said. He swung his hand and she transfigured into a painting.
"NO!" Link yelled. Yuga smiled an evil smile and absorbed the painting, Hilda and all, all including the Triforce of Wisdom. Yuga now stronger it was now a tougher fight for Link. When he merged into the wall Zelda spoke to Link through the painting and gave him the Bow of light. It went back and forth AGAIN Link shooting Yuga, attacking him in normal form, Yuga attacking Link. Until the final battle was over. A white light enveloped Yuga and he just about exploded. In a slump was Hilda.
"Hilda!" Link ran up to her sliding next to her throwing his sword to the side. "Hilda! Are you okay?"
She looked at him for a moment then broke down crying. "I'm sorry Link, I'm so, so sorry. You trusted me and I took advantage of you."
"Hilda….." Link said.
She looked up at him again. "Yes?"
"It's okay, you were doing what you thought was best for your kingdom, and do you know why else its okay?
Hilda shook her head. "No what?"
"Because you're my girlfriend, and I love you" Link leaned in and kissed her a small tear running down his face. Hilda pulled back and she cried into his shoulder. "I Love you too"
….
After a few minutes Hilda finally stopped crying. Link stood up and stretched out his hand. "We better free Zelda."
Hilda hesitated. "But won't you go back to her? And Hyrule?"
"I'm not leaving you, but we need to get Hyrule's Triforce back to where it belongs or else we're no better then you're gods."
Hilda's eyes widen with realization. "Oh my goodness! You're right!" she took his and he pulled her up. After she laced her fingers with his, they walked over to the portrait and gently touched the portrait. It was enveloped in a bright light, when it faded Zelda was standing there. She opened her eyes. She looked to Link.
"Oh Link!" she noticed him and Hilda holding hands. "My…..hero…." she frowned slightly. "Are uh…."
Hilda raised an eyebrow, "A couple? Yes" taking Link's hand and putting it on her waist. Zelda's frown grew.
"I see" she said clearly disappointed.
"Wait!" said a voice.
Ravio came running in. "Hilda…" he said out of breath. "Don't….do….this"
"Do what?" Hilda asked give him a quizzical look.
"Steal their Triforce!" he exclaimed "it's not right!"
"I'm not, not anymore" Hilda said giving Link a small smile.
"Oh, well in that case…awesome! Now to what I really came for" Ravio set down his bag of Ruppes that Link spent all in that shop and went up to Hilda and took her hand and pulled her away. "Hilda of Lorule, Will you be my Princess?"
Hilda covered her mouth. "Ravio….are you?"
"Proposing? Yes."
Hilda glanced at Link who looked as anxious for her answer as Ravio did. She turned to him, "Ravio, that's very sweet, but I don't feel that way about you…I'm sorry" she stepped back and Link but his arm back around her.
Ravio nodded. "I see"
Zelda cleared her throat. "Mind if we get me home now?"
We all laughed.
