The Fairy Tail guild, Friday, 5 pm.
It was not entirely uncommon for the most famous wizarding guild in Fiore to have a slow day. Without any new jobs to jump on, the mages would sit around, chatting the day away until new job requests would arrive the following week. Boredom and destruction tended to go hand in hand with the most rambunctious of the bunch, which normally meant Natsu would demolish a table at some point that evening. But with Erza sitting at the bar, talking to Mira, he thought better about starting a fight at that moment.
"I'm bored Lucy…" The dragonslayer whined, his chin resting on the table at which the two sat. Lucy just hummed, not looking up from the book she was reading. "Luuuce…" He tried again.
"Natsu, if you're really that bored, just go home." She offered, but he just groaned.
"I'm still going to be bored. There's nothing to do!"
Lucy ignored him, but his complaining seemed to catch the interest of a certain brown-haired woman seated not far from them at the bar. Cana grinned, setting her keg of alcohol to the side and calling for everyone's attention.
"Hey everyone! If it's so damn boring here, what do you say we play a game?" Most of the elder wizards had learned that Cana's 'games' normally included an excessive amount of drinking or nudity. Or both. But Lucy and several other mages looked up in mild interest.
"What kind of game?"
Cana smirked, "A drinking game."
This statement earned groans from some of the tarot-mage's past victims.
"Awe come on! What's the harm?" She said innocently. As if on cue, Mira materialized behind her, holding a serving tray with several bottles of liquor.
"Come on, minna-san! I'm sure it will be fun!" Mira's sweet face did take some wizards off edge, but others knew she wasn't as innocent as she appeared. Natsu grabbed Lucy's arm, pulling her to run up to Cana before she could protest.
"Alright Cana! How do I win?!" He asked excitedly. Cana grinned.
"The goal, is to be as innocent as possible."
Several other wizards gathered around her in interest as she explained.
"The game is called, Never Have I Ever. Someone says something they've never done, and anyone who has done it, takes a drink. So… Are you man enough?" Cana knew exactly what she was doing. If she peaked Natsu's interest, he would agree to play and convince Lucy to play as well. She knew Gray would agree to one-up Natsu, and Juvia would follow. Levy would want to join the fun, and Gajeel would join out of interest. Erza wasn't too stuck up not to play either; Cana knew she would crave to win just as much as anyone else.
And boy, Cana knows them well.
"Let's do it Lucy! I'm all fired up!"
"Well okay… I guess a game couldn't hurt."
"If Natsu's going to play then so am I." Gray stated, walking up with his shirt already half way off.
"J-Juvia would like to play as well!"
"Gihii, sounds interesting…"
"Alright," Erza stood up from her chair. "Let's play."
The group consisted of Cana, Natsu, Lucy, Gray, Juvia, Gajeel, Levy, Elfman (who wanted to prove he was manly enough to win), and Wendy, who was there for moral support. Because she was underage however, Mira supplied her with a soda.
"Alright, everyone ready?" Cana asked slyly, and everyone agreed. She began, "Never have I ever, injured myself trying to impress someone I like."
Collective cursing and groans rang out around the table and Cana waved her hand. "Oh come on! I know at least some of you have! And yes, this does involve protecting someone!"
More groans.
Natsu, Lucy, Gray, Juvia, and Gajeel all took a drink. Cana laughed as questions of confusion all bubbled out of those who had not. She stopped them easily.
"Now now, we can't ask them to explain. They can say what it was if they want, but the point of the game is to reveal you've done it. Next!" She turned to her left, looking at Levy expectantly. The blunette blinked.
"Uhm… Never have I ever… flirted my way out of a ticket." She gave Lucy a pointed look and the blonde blushed.
"I told you that in confidence!" Lucy stammered angrily. Levy just laughed.
"Drink!" Lucy growled but did so.
"Never have I ever," Gajeel stated, glancing around the group with a grin, "Snooped around my friend's house without them knowing."
"Hey!" Natsu shouted angrily. "That was easy!" He took a drink reluctantly, earning a gasp from Lucy. Gray and Erza also took a sip and she gaped at them.
"All of you?!" Gray just shrugged.
"You were gone."
Before she could shout at them for intruding into her home, it was Juvia's turn. The pale woman looked around, understanding the game. "Never have I ever, forgotten my lines in a play." She said quietly, glancing up at Erza. Everyone around her gasped in horror, expecting hell to break loose. But the requip mage just sighed, taking a drink.
"It was a fair statement. I will play by the rules."
After several minutes of silence, everyone felt excitement bubble in their chests; they realized that not even Erza would get mad at a fair statement.
"This is starting to get interesting…" Cana purred, pointing to Gray. "You're next!"
Gray grinned, looking around the group in thought. "Never have I ever, dined and dashed." He looked straight at Natsu, who grumbled in anger and embarrassment before taking a sip. Lucy just rolled her eyes as it became his turn.
"Never have I ever, lost my clothes!"
"Oi! That's not fair!" Gray shouted.
"Yes it is!"
Gray huffed in anger and took a drink. Lucy took one shyly as well, earning a gasp from Levy.
"Lu-chan!"
"I-It was Natsu's fault!"
Cana waved her hand. "Never mind that. Lucy, it's your turn." She groaned, but thought up a statement nonetheless.
"Never have I ever, cried in public because of a book I read." Levy stared at her with a look of betrayal.
"You have too!"
Lucy blushed. "Oh yeah…"
"Both of you drink!" Cana sang. Now it was Elfman's turn.
"Never have I ever," Elfman said, grinning, "Been electrocuted by Laxus."
Natsu, Gray, Gajeel, and Erza all took a drink solemnly.
"N-Never have I ever…" Wendy squeaked, glancing around the guild hall for inspiration, "... Broken a table…"
Everyone stared at her for a moment and Cana burst into laughter. "You heard the girl! Drink!"
Natsu, Gray, Erza, Gajeel, and Elfman all took a drink.
"Never have I ever," Erza slurred, "Eaten something out of the trash."
Natsu growled in anger. "Oi!"
"Shut it!" She shouted in reply.
They were about thirty minutes into the game and most everyone had drank somewhere around half their own body weight, Wendy and Cana being the only ones who were still somewhat lucid. The young dragonslayer tried not to laugh as Natsu fumbled with his liquor bottle, almost spilling as he took a sip.
Cana called for attention as her turn came around. "Never have I ever, slept in the nude."
The group looked at her in disbelief that she hadn't, but Gray took a drink anyway. Natsu looked at Lucy pointedly, trying to see her through his blurry vision.
"Luce, you do too. Drink." Lucy did so without resistance and the rest of the group gasped.
"Natsu, how do you know that?!" Lucy laughed drunkenly, feeling very very happy, and slinging her arm around Natsu's shoulders.
"We're best friends!" She was significantly more hammered than him, and he was glad the alcohol coloring his cheeks didn't give away the fact that his blush was the same color as his hair.
"Levy," Cana hiccupped. "It's your turn."
Levy burst into a fit giggles as she thought of something evil. She glanced around the group, eyes half lidded as she said, "Never have I ever, had a wet dream about someone in this group."
Wendy blushed furiously at the statement (don't get the wrong idea, she hadn't. But she was beginning to realize she was far too innocent for this game) and Cana laughed. Levy burst into more laugher as Natsu, Lucy, Gray, and Gajeel all took sips of their alcohol.
"Ooooh!?" Cana inquired, as the drunkees refused to make eye contact with her, or anyone else. "The truth is coming out! Gajeel! Your turn!"
"Never have I ever," He was wobbling slightly, "been so sick, I missed my train stop."
Cana groaned. "Noooo that's boring!"
"I have one." Wendy piped up. Everyone looked at her expectantly and she smiled.
"Never have I ever, been in love with someone in this group."
Silence.
"Eh? None of you? That's hard to believe. Come on you pansies!"
One by one, Gajeel, Levy, Natsu, Lucy, Gray and Juvia all took a sip of their alcohol. Cana cackled in triumph.
"Sooooo? Who is it?"
"None of your business!" Gajeel shouted defensively.
"Lucy." Natsu said simply.
Everyone turned to gape at him, including Lucy. After a moment, she turned to the group.
"N-Natsu... " She whispered, her face red and Natsu sat straight up, staring at her.
"Hm…." Cana said thoughtfully. "Who else?"
"I love Gray-sama!" Juvia declared through tears and everyone sweatdropped.
"That's not really big news…"
"I like her back." Gray hiccuped, resulting in more dumbfounded stares. Juvia burst into tears of joy, clinging his arm as he just patted her head.
"Settle down, Juv." He said.
"Gajeel." Levy's drunken, giggly demeanor had faded and she stared hard ahead. Gajeel stared down at her, unable to believe his ears. After a moment, still staring at her, he also said a name.
"Levy."
Levy looked up at him.
Utter silence fell through the entire guild as everyone, even those not involved in the game, looked at the people who had unwittingly confessed their love for each other.
"Oh. My. God." Mira whispered, practically trembling with excitement. The confessors squirmed uncomfortably under everyone's attention.
"Well… I think that's the game." Cana stated, still dumbfounded. She turned to Wendy, whispering under her breath. "I can't believe that worked…"
Wendy just smiled innocently as Cana handed her a stack of jewels.
"I told you I could do it. Nice bet Cana."
