10 - Percy
From up above the deck, Percy could hear Annabeth screaming a blood curdling scream. Percy struggled against his father's restraints, while thrashing around and screaming out to Annabeth. "Let me go!" Percy screamed at Poseidon as he continued to keep him pinned down on the floor. "Percy, listen to me!" Poseidon shouted. "You can't help above deck. I won't have you sucked into that pit again. You were lucky to escape it but if you go up there, there will be no coming back from there this time. Besides, your my only living son. I will not have you die as well" Poseidon said.
"Why aren't you and Athena incapacitated and why aren't you at war with your Greek/Roman personality?" Percy asked confused. "I am and so is Athena" Poseidon stated. "Your prayer was heard by every single god on Olympus. Seeing our children in such danger was enough to snap us out of our delusions, or at least just long enough to help. My brothers Hades and Zeus are up there exacting their revenge upon Tartarus for killing Athena and it's my job to keep you and the rest of your friends safe while they send that damnation back into the pit" Poseidon explained.
"If it is your job to keep us safe, how can allow Annabeth to be up there in the middle of the fight?" Percy screamed as he heard another one of her shrill shrieks come from above. "I'm afraid, she followed you up onto the deck. As Athena bought you time to escape, Tartarus ordered his skeletal army to attack, leaving Athena completely vulnerable and open to attack while she tried to defend her daughter. Tartarus tried to suck Annabeth's soul into him. If he had, that would have killed her so Athena pushed her out of the way and took the blunt end of the attack" Poseidon explained.
"Can't you go up and get her?" Percy yelled in frustration. "And leave you unprotected? No! I'm not losing the last of my children" Poseidon bellowed. "Please dad, save Annabeth! You can't let her die! Please" Percy wailed. "If you love me, you will leave me and save Annabeth" Percy cried. "Dad, if you let her die, I will never forgive you" Percy shouted.
A brief moment of silence passed before Poseidon spoke. "No, you're my main priority, not the girl. It does not bother me if she dies if it means that, that saves you. I'm sorry but my final answer is no" Poseidon snarled.
"You know, Luke was right!" Percy screamed. "YOU GUY'S ARE PURELY SELFISH AND ONLY CARE ABOUT YOURSELVES! NO WANDER HE TURNED AGAINST YOU!" Percy screamed but Poseidon had stopped listening. He had stopped caring. "LISTEN TO ME!" Percy bellowed. "IF YOU LET ANNABETH DIE, I'M DONE WITH BEING A HERO! I WOULD GO TO TARTARUS AND BACK IF IT MEANT SAVING HER, BUT YOU ARE SO SPINELESS AND SELFISH YOU CAN'T EVEN DO ONE THING YOU ARE AFRAID OF! YOUR AFFRAID THAT YOU WILL BE KILLED LIKE ATHENA AREN'T YOU? IF YOU GO DOWN FIGHTING LIKE ATHENA, I WILL HONOR YOU AS A HERO, I WILL KEEP YOUR MEMORY ALIVE SO THAT ONE DAY YOU WILL REGENERATE. IF NOT, I WILL HAPPILY WATCH YOU CRASH AND BURN!" Percy screamed in pure rage. "I DON'T CARE IF I DIE, AS LONG AS I GO DOWN FIGHTING TO SAVE ANNABETH! YOU CAN EITHER HELP ME OR GET OUT OF MY WAY, BECAUSE EITHER WAY, I AM GOING TO SAVE ANNABETH!" Percy roared.
"Fine" Poseidon said as he finally gave in. "Even as a God, I can't interfere with a Hero's destiny. Only you can choose your path, which you already have. However, I will not allow you to go out there alone. I will fight to the death to make sure that you and your friend live, even if I don't approve in your taste of girls" Poseidon spat as if he had just eaten a whole lemon. If the children of Poseidon and Athena could put aside their differences and rivalry, why couldn't they? Percy thought to himself. "You do realize that by doing this, your practically signing your death warrants?" Poseidon asked. Percy gritted his teeth and said "yes, for Annabeth. I would die for her" Percy said. "Then let's go and send Tartarus's essence back into his pit!" Poseidon roared.
Percy raced up the stairs and onto the deck to find Annabeth lying unconscious in the middle of a pile of bones. Blood was trickling out of her left ear and down onto the deck, staining everything that came into contact with it blood red. Not good Percy thought to himself. Percy ran straight to Annabeth's side and saw Tartarus at the edge of the decks railing, surrounded and outnumbered one to three. Percy looked out into the ocean, his father's territory and saw a giant whirlpool spinning violently that went down, down and down into nothingness. Percy guessed it went straight down to Tartarus.
Above them, the sky was crackling with electricity as Zeus raised his master bolt aloft summoning an arc of lightning and firing it straight at Tartarus after saying "yield! You've already lost!"
"You gods are so cocky and sure of your abilities" Tartarus taunted while dripping golden Ichor from a stab wound in his chest. "What would happen if your split personality disorder took over any minute now? Oh poor old little demi gods at the mercy of little old me, with 3 schizophrenic freaks. Who knows, I may not even have to kill these children because you may be so caught up in your paranoia that you kill them yourselves thinking they are the enemy. Now that would be a show worth watching" Tartarus laughed before doubling over and coughing up golden ichor. "Now would be a bad time for your splitting headaches to occur, wouldn't you agree? Then slowly you will begin to lose your mind as your split personality begins to take over then you will become totally incapacitated incapable of any help and at my mercy. If I am feeling merciful I will imprison you in Tartarus and happily watch you fade into nothing" Tartarus bellowed. "How would you enjoy that Neptune? How about you Jupiter or what about you Pluto?" Tartarus chuckled.
The instant he mentioned the gods roman names, each one of them crouched over in immense pain, unable to even stand. Tartarus seemed to be feeding of off their pain because as they grew weaker, he seemed to grow stronger and began go gain more and more strength. Slowly, his wounds began to heal leaving him stronger than ever. "Ah, now that's better" Tartarus sighed as he flexed his muscles.
"Now who should I kill first? Should it be you Zeus, or you Hades or you Poseidon? Or how about I kill your children as you watch as helpless as the empty husks you are at this moment?" Tartarus said before raising his coffin like feet over Hades/Pluto ready to crush him like a bug. Instead he kicked their weapons out of their hands. Zeus's Master Bolt, Poseidon's trident and Hade's Helm Of Darkness.
The Trident and Helm of darkness went flying over deck and smashed into the oceans smooth, rippling surface instantly sinking down to the bottom of the ocean out of the gods reach. Zeus's Master Bolt came skidding across the deck coming to a halt ten feet from Percy's feet. Percy's ADHD immediately kicked in as he dived for it. As Percy touched the bolt, it shrunk down to his size and began to crackle with electricity. Percy had no idea how to use the bolt so he followed in gut instinct and held it up to the sky waiting for it to charge with lightning, but nothing happened.
Tartarus began laughing at Percy's pathetic attempt at using the bolt before kicking him in the gut and sending him sprawling across the deck where he came to a halt next to Annabeth. Annabeth's eyes had opened and she muttered "Jason. Get him" Percy was confused and muttered back "why?" but he got no response as Annabeth had gone silent again. Had he just simply imagined that Annabeth had told him to get Jason? But then it made sense. Tartarus had been ignoring Annabeth because he believed her to be unconscious and maiming her while she was out for the count wouldn't be any fun at all. He was simply saving her for the finale.
Percy ran towards the stairs that went down below the deck as Tartarus chased after him. Fortunately, Tartarus was slow and very clumsy for his massive size. Percy took the stairs three at a time before stumbling over a cold, limp body. A BODY! Percy thought to himself totally panicking while his mind threatened to lose it. He had no time to check to see who it was, but he just hoped that they weren't dead. The best he could hope for was that they were simply out cold. Even if they were unconscious, what were they doing sprawled like that on the stairs? Percy furiously thought to himself.
Percy had no time to stop and think because the roof suddenly fell in as rubble and debris rained in from above as Tartarus slowly lowered his foot ready to crush Percy. Percy dived out of the way, pushing the body out of the way as well and he got a look at the persons face. Lying there unconscious was Frank. His breathing was very slow and heavy, but luckily her was still breathing. That was good.
Percy began running for his life down the hall as more of the flooring collapsed on top of him from the deck up above. The way Percy was going, he was likely to get the Argo II destroyed before he got to Jason. Just keep moving he told himself as he dodged another pile of falling debris.
Finally Percy made it to Jason's Cabin. Percy grabbed the doors handle and twisted it to find out it was locked from the inside. OH MY GODS! JASON GRACE! YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME! Percy thought to himself as he slammed himself against his door, putting all his weight onto it trying to break through. After a few tries, the door finally budged and Percy pushed it wide open to find the cabin was empty. Percy thought to himself FML!
Before he was about to leave the door, he found a note on Jason's nightstand with Pipers neat hand writing "meet me in the stable at midnight. Love Piper" Gods, couldn't they think of somewhere else to go make out and be more original then that? That was where Percy and Annabeth had snuck off to one night before they fell into Tartarus. Gods, Jason and Piper had really began to tick Percy off.
Percy dashed out of the empty cabin and back towards the stairs. Percy had to sidestep to avoid being squashed by Tatarus's feet. Finally, Percy made it down to the lowest level of the Argo II where the stables were located and found Piper and Jason making out in midair. Jason was moaning while Piper licked his bare chest and nipples. At least they weren't fully naked as that would of made the scene so much more awkward and totally disgusting. Jason had stripped down to only his skin tight jeans and Piper was only in her bra and under pants.
Percy absolutely hated to interrupt the intimate moment but he had to. Percy put his fingers to his lips and let loose an ear piercing whistle that startled Jason so much that he and Piper fell out of the air and landed on the glass floor with a loud thud that sent cracks running through the glass. Piper and Jason scrambled off of the glass floor before it shattered sending glass shards raining into the ocean below them.
"What was that for?!" Jason shouted. "When you and Annabeth snuck off for a make out session in the middle of the night, did we interrupt?" Jason asked. "No, and it wasn't like that" Percy said frantically. "How did you not hear the fighting upstairs" Percy yelled. "What fighting?" Jason asked totally oblivious to the fact the god of the out was up on the deck. "First or all, we have the most evil god attacking us, sent by the princess of dirt, then he tries to kidnap me and Annabeth, The gods come to intervene, Athena gets killed and the big three gods fall in battle and this whole time you two were making out?!" Percy yelled.
"Oh my gods" Piper said. "We need to get up there". "No, Pipes, it's too dangerous, you go wake everyone ok? Me and Percy will deal with it, right Percy?" Percy nodded his head and said "You will need this. Only a son of Zeus/Jupiter can wield this" before handing over the master bolt to Jason. "Oh my gods, is this what I think it is?" Jason exclaimed as he took the master bolt from Percy's hands. "Jason we don't have the time for idle chit-chat. With Tartarus here, everyone is in danger. Don't you see that? Tartarus managed to kill Athena and he has Zeus, Poseidon and Hades incapacitated, unable to move. Don't you see just how serious this is? We need to get a move on."
Percy and Jason hurdled up the stairs and up onto the deck where Tartarus was leaning over the railing wounded. Percy gazed over to where the gods where and they were no longer out of action. They were up and fighting. Poseidon waved his hands and a giant whirlpool appeared and Zeus summoned a clap of lightning from the heavens that threw Tartarus over board into the whirlpool were Hades opened a portal directly into Tartarus. Tartarus wouldn't go in though as he was clinging onto the rough edges where the sea floor had collapsed creating an opening right into Tartarus itself.
"Now!" Zeus roared and Jason raised the master bolt skyward and summoned an arc of white lightning and bought it crashing down upon Tartarus where he bellowed in rage as the strike of lightning made his hand hold crumble off and he fell down, straight into Tartarus before the pieces of rock sediment began to re seal themselves as if there had never been a crack that led straight to Tartarus.
"You did well, my son" Zeus said. "Though you might want to put a shirt on before anyone finds out what you were up to" Zeus said with a wink. "Dad" Jason whined, "Your embarrassing me". "I know how feel my son. It runs in the family. Didn't you ever hear the stories of how I would run around? Oh fine, never mind" Zeus sighed. "That can be a story for another time. Now about the bolt" Zeus began to say before Jason cut him off saying "here, dad" before putting the bolt into the palm of his hand. "Ah, no. I believe that it will no longer work for me now. You see it will only work for the one it sees as its master and since you were able to use it, it views you as its new master, so it's yours to keep. Do whatever you want with it" Zeus said gruffly. "We need to go now. Know that I am proud to call you my son".
Percy noticed that Annabeth was still lying in the mound of bones. "Annabeth, it's fine to open your eyes" Percy whispered softly while stroking the strands of hair off of her face. "Annabeth" Percy murmured gently before shaking her on the shoulder but Annabeth wouldn't respond. "ANNABETH" Percy screamed, holding back tears that were threatening to come flooding out of his eyes. Percy grabbed Annabeth's wrist and felt for a pulse but there was none. Her heart had stopped. "Jason!" Percy shouted "I need help! Annabeth, her heart has stopped!" Percy yelled while he started doing chest compressions.
Jason came running and said "Move over" before his fingers began crackling with electricity and he pushed down onto the area over her heart. "Still nothing" Jason grumbled. "Try harder!" Percy shouted. "I will not have Annabeth die on me! We have been through too much for her to just die now!" Percy sobbed. "IN THE NAME OF THE GODS, WHY DO THE FATES HAVE TO PLAY THEIR CRULE GAMES ON ME RIGHT NOW?" Percy screamed, tearing out chunks of his hair. "Percy, I'm sorry but it isn't working" Jason sighed, holding back a tear.
"What's not working Piper asked as she rushed over to Percy's side and took Percy's hand as she realized what was going on. "Oh my Gods!" Piper exclaimed. "Percy, give her CPR! Jason continue what you were doing! Come on Annabeth, wake up. Open your eyes, come on breath. Don't you dare die on us" Piper said trying to put as much charmspeak into her voice as possible. "It's too late, she's dead" Piper exclaimed. "Percy, I am so sorry" Piper said holding back tears as she pulled Percy into a hug. "No, she isn't dead. She can't be. I never even got to say goodbye" Percy screamed before continuing doing chest compressions trying to revive Annabeth.
Percy continued this for about 5 minutes before accepting the truth that Annabeth had died on him. It was all his fault she had died. He shouldn't have left Annabeth at the mercy of Tartarus while he went on and fetched Jason. It was all his fault. "Annabeth, I'm so sorry" Percy said as he grabbed Annabeth's cold hand and squeezed it. "Please forgive me Annabeth" Percy sobbed. "Of course I do", Annabeth said weakly and squeezed his hand back. "I thought you were dead" Percy cried. "I was, but Thanatos guided me to back to the world of the living because it wasn't my time to die" Annabeth said.
Percy was absolutely ecstatic about this news. He threw himself into a hug and embraced Annabeth and said, "I am never going to let that happen ever again. Promise me you will never leave so suddenly without any warning" Percy cried. "I won't, I Promise" Annabeth said weakly.
