A/N I have a good feeling about this one, here's set 10!
Awake
"I never noticed this before," Emily said, ghosting her fingers against a scar on Maya's shoulder. It was faint, but visible the silver moonlight. "Fell off my bike when I was 7," Maya mumbled, struggling to keep her eyes open. "Go to sleep already, Maya," Emily said. "No. My girlfriend can't sleep, then I don't sleep."
This was the fourth night in a row Emily had woken up crying about some Alison or A-related nightmare. She was starting to give up on sleep altogether, until her girlfriend found out and insisted on sleeping with her. Sleep was coming easier now, but the nightmares persisted, and neither girl knew what to do about it.
Emily sighed. "You're being ridiculous. You have work in the morning," she protested. Maya shook her head, "We work in a coffee shop and you're afraid of me falling asleep on the job?" she asked, rubbing her eyes. "Look, I'm not closing my eyes again until you're sound asleep, so just try, okay?" Emily frowned, but nodded knowing the shorter girl probably wasn't going to budge on this. "Well could you at least hold me again?" she mumbled, looking away from her girlfriend's tired gaze. "Come here," Maya opened her arms for Emily to settle into them. "We're gonna get through this, okay?" Maya said, kissing her girlfriend on the forehead. And Emily just nodded, trying her best to get some sleep now that she was in loving arms.
Breakfast
Emily awkwardly took another bite of her toast as she tried in vain to look anywhere but Matt's glare. Luckily, Maya joined them at the table moments later. "Why are you staring down my girlfriend, Matt?" she said, putting two mugs of coffee on the table and receiving a peck on the lips in thanks from Emily.
Matt dropped his spoon into his bowl of cereal noisily. "This is every older brother's nightmare, y'know," he said, his glare finally dropping, "That his younger sister gets hotter girls than him, and has more morning sex than him! Do you know how long it's been since I've had morning sex?" "Do I want to know?" Maya asked. "Months!"
Maya rolled her eyes at her older brother. He probably wasn't going to stop ranting anytime soon. She glanced over at Emily and smiled a bit; the taller girl was desperately trying not laugh at the boy as he complained about his 'less than satisfactory' love life. The light in the kitchen was making her glow even more than usual. Emily caught Maya's gaze and a lopsided grin appeared on her face as she probably started tuning Matt out too. "I love you," Maya mouthed. Emily silently echoed the shorter girl, thinking that maybe eating breakfast with a whiny 20-year-old wouldn't be so bad.
Close Call
Emily's eyes shot open when she heard the garage door open. "Shit, we fell asleep! Maya, wake up!" Emily said quietly, quickly getting out of bed and grabbing all of the clothes off of the floor. "Maya!" she said, throwing the shorter girl's clothes at her when she saw she still hadn't moved. "Why do I have to get up?" Maya grumbled. "My mom's home." That woke Maya up.
Ever since Pam had accepted the two girls' relationship, she had been treating Maya as if she was Emily's boyfriend, which meant open doors, no sleepovers, and definitely no visits when Pam wasn't home, which was the exact opposite of what they were doing now. They didn't usually sneak around like this, but Emily had had a particularly rough day and needed her girlfriend, so here they were.
Maya was mostly dressed at this point, only missing her shirt, which she was frantically looking for. "What are you doing?" Emily asked, wondering why she was still here. "Can't find my shirt!" she whispered back, still looking. Emily was straightening the sheets on the bed when she found it and tossed it to her girlfriend as she walked over to her.
"I'll see you," Maya said, slipping her shirt back on and grinning. She leaned up and pressed a soft kiss against Emily's lips, stretching it out as long as possible. Somewhere downstairs, the two girls heard Pam shuffling around below. "And that's my cue," Maya said, pulling away from from the taller girl's lips.
Maya always thought the part where had to sneak out of the window was was a bit dramatic, but as she looked from the scratches on her hands from almost slipping to window she just crawled out of, she figured Emily could get her to do just about anything she wanted.
Sick
"Emily?" Maya stirred, feeling a cold, wet cloth on her forehead. "What are you doing here?" Emily adjusted the washcloth a little, "Just because I'm not particularly happy with you right now, doesn't mean I don't still care about you."
Maya blinked hard and tried to sit up, which turned out to be a bad idea. Every muscle in her body ached, so she just laid back down. "I made a mistake. I'm sorry-" she started, but Emily cut her off. "Shh, just get some rest right now, okay? We can talk about it later," her voice was stern but caring as she watched her sick girlfriend stare back at her for a moment before closing her eyes.
When Maya opened her eyes again, the first thing she saw was Emily rubbing what had to be Vicks onto her chest, because she felt her airways opening up. The sick girl inhaled deeply through her nose, relishing in the fact that she actually could for the first time all day. "Thank you," Maya said, receiving a gentle smile from Emily in return.
Emily finished applying the rubbing menthol and closed the jar. "Medicine time, sit up," Emily said, reaching for the medicine on the beside table. "But I just took some," Maya said, frowning a little. "That was 6 hours ago; up," Emily repeated, helping the shorter girl sit up and spoon feeding her the medicine.
"Emily?" Maya asked, getting a hum in response as Emily turned to put the medicine back on the table, "I'm sorry." Emily turned to look at her girlfriend, "I was just so mad that I wasn't thinking clearly." Emily sighed, "Did you cheat on me?" "Of course not! I just went over and we talked," Maya said quickly. Emily huffed, "I just don't like her. I don't... trust her, I don't like the way she flirts with you and looks at you-" Maya cut her off, "She can look all she wants, because I'm only looking at you. You're the only girl I see anymore. You don't have to trust her Em. Just trust me, the girl who's crazy about you." Maya took Emily's hand into her own, "I love you... more than I've ever loved anyone who's ever walked on this planet, so please Emily, just believe in me?" Emily simply nodded, tears threatening to fall from Maya's words.
Maya smiled, but it was short-lived as she started coughing. "I'm gonna go make you some tea," Emily said, getting up from her chair. Maya grabbed her wrist to stop her. "I'm fine, Em. Just come here," she said, pulling her onto the bed and scooting over so that they could be next to each other. Maya wrapped her arm around Emily's shoulder and pressed a kiss against her temple.
"I overreacted again, didn't I?" Emily after after a second, putting her arm across the shorter girl's stomach. "Yeah, but I forgive you because you've done such a good job taking care of me."
Sore
"Hey Emily, your girlfriend's here," Spencer said nonchalantly as she re-entered her living room with a flower bearing Maya trailing behind her.
Emily looked up from twisting Aria's hair into a French braid and beamed, "Hey!" she said. "Hi, these are for you," Maya said with a smile, gesturing the flowers. "Awwww," Aria, Spencer, and Hanna all cooed, causing Emily to roll her eyes at her friends. "Thank you," she said, leaning up to peck her girlfriend on the lips. Maya plopped down on the couch, yelping as her back made contact with the sofa. Everyone looked at her. "I'm fine, just a little sore. Slept weird," she explained. Aria and Spencer went back to watching the tv. Hanna stared at her a bit longer with a raised eyebrow, but turned back to the tv after a moment.
Maya leaned over to whisper in Emily's ear, "Easy with the scratching next time." "Sorry," Emily responded with a sheepish smile.
Break
"It's kind of starting to hurt, Maya. And I suck," Emily said, flexing her fingers some as she set Maya's guitar down for a moment.
"Sucking at something is the first step at being sorta good at something," Maya said as she came back into the room juggling two mugs of hot chocolate and a bag of popcorn. She figured Emily could use a break from their guitar lesson so she brought snacks.
Emily sighed and tried playing "Mary Had a Little Lamb" one more time, shocked when she actually got it right. Maya grinned, "See? Now let's take a break, rainy days were made for hot cocoa and cuddling."
Interrupt
Emily moaned as Maya sucked harshly on her collarbone and raked her nails down her stomach. She was pretty sure the shorter girl was leaving marks on her skin, but she didn't care; she had barely seen her girlfriend all week, which explained why they were having a heated makeout session in the back of Emily's car.
Emily grasped the back of Maya's neck and pulled her into another searing kiss as Maya's hand traveled towards the button of her jeans.
Just then, the back door of the car swung open, so the two girls tilted their heads to see who had interrupted them. Emily groaned when she saw that it was Aria. "What, Aria?" she asked, slightly annoyed at her friend. "Hanna's done for the night," Aria said, pointing behind her at a large tree that Hanna was propped up against next to a puddle of something that looked suspiciously like throw up. "Aw man..." Emily said.
When she volunteered to be the designated driver for the night, she knew that something like this would happen, she just didn't think it'd be so soon. Emily looked from the inebriated Hanna to her panting girlfriend whom she basically hadn't seen in a week; she was looking way too sexy for her own good right now.
She looked back at Aria, "Could you give us a second?" she asked. Aria nodded and closed the door again. "I'm sorry... I have to go," Emily said, receiving a frustrated sigh from Maya, who sat up. "It's okay, I get it," Maya responded, "You're still coming over tomorrow though, right?" she asked, slipping her hand underneath her girlfriend's shirt and tracing lines up and down her torso. "Yes," Emily breathed. "Good." Maya leaned down and kissed her goodbye then, accompanied by her grinding her hips down into the other girl's. Emily moaned into Maya's mouth before pulling away from the kiss, "Was that a preview for tomorrow?" she asked, staring at Maya's lips. "Yes it was... now go take care of your friends."
Anxiety
Emily woke up in a hurry when she heard a crash come from downstairs. She grabbed the field hockey stick that Spencer gave her from under her bed and went to investigate.
"Fuck!" she heard once she reached the bottom of the stairs. It came from the kitchen, so Emily lifted her makeshift weapon over her as she made her way towards the sound.
Upon entering the kitchen, however, she realized that it was only her girlfriend whom Emily had honestly forgotten had stayed the night in her sleepy haze. Maya had her back facing Emily, and her hands were in her hair as she stared at the shattered glass on the floor.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Emily asked, turning on the lights. Maya's head whipped around at her voice, her eyes wide and watery. "Emily, the dish, it slipped! I'm sorry, I... I'm sorry," Maya rambled. She was panicking.
"Hey, hey, it's okay," Emily replied, putting the field hockey stick on the counter. She knew how to handle Maya's anxiety better now, so she knew approaching her with a weapon would not help the situation. She walked walked over to the shorter girl slowly. "It's not a big deal, Maya. It's just a dish." Emily gave Maya a little smile and grasped her arms. "Are you hurt?" Emily asked, checking the other girl for injuries. "No," Maya said, sighing and instantly relaxing at her girlfriend's touch. "I'm going to get the broom to clean up this glass, okay? Be careful not to step on any," Emily said, kissing Maya's forehead before heading to the pantry to get the broom and dustpan.
Upon Emily's return, Maya reached out for the broom, but Emily waved her off. "I got it," she said, kneeling down to clean up the mess. "What were you doing, anyway?" "I couldn't sleep, so I was making banana bread." Maya said, leaning against the counter next to a mixing bowl. Emily finished cleaning up the glass and went over to the trash to dump the glass shards in.
When she finally got back to Maya, she looked into her eyes; she could practically see the traces of anxiety in her girlfriend's eyes again, fleeting for now. "That actually sounds pretty good right now," Emily said, smiling softly again. She reached over the girl and produced a metal bread pan from the cupboard, "Here, it'll cook more evenly in this anyway." Maya smiled in thanks and transferred the batter into the pan before putting it in the oven.
Once the pan was in the oven, Emily pushed the shorter girl against the counter and dipped her head down to pepper kisses onto her neck and lips. "How are you feeling?" Emily mumbled, pausing her kisses for a second. "I'm okay now, thank you," Maya responded. Emily nodded and pressed their foreheads together. "You know I'll always be here for you when you want to bake stuff in the middle of the night, Maya."
Bands
"What's this band called again?" Emily asked from her seat on Maya's bed.
"Malbec, you like them?" Maya asked from her desk, receiving a nod from the other girl. She smiled, glad that Emily had finally agreed to listen to some of her music.
Sorting through a few CDs on her desk, she turned to the taller girl again, "Well they're coming into the city with Foster the People next month, you wanna go?" "Sure, I'd love to Maya." Maya beamed again, making her way over to the bed and laying down with her girlfriend. Emily wrapped an arm around her and leaned down to drop a kiss onto her forehead as they enjoyed the music together in a comfortable silence.
"...And I, can't breathe without you,
I, can't be without you,
I, can't breathe without you,
I just need you now," Maya sang along softly, kissing Emily's shoulder.
Emily just smiled in response, "Yeah, I definitely like this band."
Cupcakes
"Why did we agree to do this again?" Maya complained, pulling more muffin tins out from under the Fields family oven. "Because you love Hanna and would do anything to see her happy," Emily responded as she continued mixing batter in a bowl. "No, I love you and would do anything to see you happy," the shorter girl corrected, setting the tins on the counter next to her girlfriend. "Well if Hanna's happy, then I'll be happy, and then I can make you very happy," Emily said, a mischievous smile adorning her face as she leaned down to place a soft kiss on Maya's lips. Maya's lips curled into a smile of its own and her hand came up to grasp the back of Emily's neck, keeping her close.
"No lesbian sex near the cupcakes!" Hanna's voice interrupted them. Maya laughed and pulled away from Emily, "No promises, Han." Hanna frowned, prompting more laughter from Maya. Emily simply rolled her eyes at the two, turning her attention to filling the muffin tins with paper liners.
"I still don't get why we have to do this, you've got homecoming queen in the bag," Maya said. "I just really want to win, and actually get crowned this time without worrying about stalkers or A or my boyfriend slipping away," Hanna explained, sighing. "And you will," Emily said. Maya nodded, "Yeah, we got your back. Now come on ladies, we've got a hundred cupcakes to bake."
A/N I can't believe I reached my goal, 100 Emaya shorts/drabbles! I feel great (even though it took a month) lol. Which ones were your favorites? I think I'm gonna have to go with Anxiety.
With this chapter I have good news and bad news. The good news is I think I have one more set in me (I always planned on stopping at 100). What would you guys like to see in that set? I know a bunch of you like my Rivals AU, so I'll write like a sort of ending to that trilogy. But other than that, any requests? Let me know.
The bad news is, that set will probably be the last one. The ideas just aren't flowing as fast and as much as they used to and I can't ever seem to get the words right and bah. If I do continue these after that set though, chapters will probably come out once a month or something like that. Until next time, goodnight guys!
