Trolling a Mountain

(Sonic)

He was running. Running down the same metal hallways he knows all too well. How he had gotten here, he had no idea. All he did know is that he felt the heavy feeling of dread set in as if he was running out of time, but for what?

He increased his speed as he boosted through the robotic maze of hallways. He passed both badniks and Swat-Bots alike as they all tried to stop the hedgehog but it was all in vain as he just sped past them blowing them away or completely destroying them.

The feeling of dread was not going away; in fact it was getting even heaver as he was starting to approach a large door. He instinctively curled into a ball and collided with the door, going right through making a small hole where he had connected.

He landed on one knee as he rose up and started to examine the room he was in. It was a fairly dark room but for Sonic he knew it all too well. He had been through these rooms, these halls, hundreds of times. He looked around the dark room till he was blinded by a bright light that caught the blue hero off guard.

He staggered back slightly and as soon as he did he felt like he had stepped into glue. He looked down and all the color drained from his face as he saw the familiar dark brown mega-muck. The smell alone almost made Sonic loose his lunch right there. He shook of his nausea and tried to lift his feet but they were firmly stuck to the ground.

"Let go of me!"

Sonics ears twitched as his head shot up instantly looking for the source of the pleas of help. He didn't have to look for long as he had finally noticed what room he was in. The large amount of computers and monitors made out most of the room, but dead in the center was one of the few things that actually terrified the blue hedgehog. A cylinder like pod with bullet proof glass with two light's hanging above it stood dead center in the room, it seemed to hold a presence all itself, one of a foreboding evil.

Sonic felt his curls start to stand on end as he felt the cold chill the machine gave out when it is about to be used. It was then Sonics eyes grew wide as he finally saw who had screamed. He saw the image of Sally being pushed into the device by none other than Eggman himself. The fat man had a triumphant smirk on his ugly face as he closed the glass door, locking the princess inside.

No. Was Sonics only thought as he tried even harder to pull himself out of the sticky as glue muck. Everything though was in vain as he was still stuck in place. He heard her scream and he jolted his head up to see that Eggman was behind one of the computers and had started the process. "No!"

He saw Sally look up at the bright light that the machine was making then she looked directly at him. "SON-"she was cut off when the light engulfed her.

"SALLY!" Sonic shouted as he continued to pull and claw at his legs trying desperately to get them free so he could save her. 'Come on hedgehog! Come on!' he thought. He pulled with everything he had and suddenly he was able to pull one of his feet out of the muck then the other as he jumped out of it and landed on the other side.

However before Sonic could boost over to the machine it had completely stopped with the light on top a shade of green. The room grew quiet as the machine opened. At first Sonic could see nothing but steam but eventually he started to make out a figure.

He dashed into the fog at full speed his hand extended out to grab the figure. However he had grabbed onto the cold hard shoulder of something robotic instead of soft, warm fur. When the steam had cleared he felt his heart go to his stomach as he stared at not the cerulean eyes he loved, but the emotionless crimson eyes of a cold robot.

"NO!" Sonic screamed as he sat bolt upright and fell out of his chair landing on the ground of the motel. He grumbled for a moment before slowly getting up and rubbing his head. He looked around and saw he was in a small room with yellow colored walls. He eventually found the form of Tails who was still asleep, which caused Sonic to finally remember where he was.

He slowly got to his feet stretching out the kink in his back for sleeping in a chair. He let out a groan as he made his way to the bathroom only for the door to his room opening and hitting him right in the face.

"What's going on?" He heard Percy ask as they rushed into his and Tails room.

He slowly closed the door so he could see the two demigods and he held a scowl that even his red and black rival would have been proud of. He coughed in his hand startling the two demigods as they turned to face a red faced and very annoyed former hedgehog. "Do you two know the saying, Knock before entering?"

Percy and Annabetheth's faces grew red as they both held slightly ashamed expressions. Sonic let out a sigh as he shook his head. "It's cool, just be quiet next time, and be careful when opening a door. You never know who might be on the other side." He said as he turned and walked into the bathroom leaving them both stunned and dumbstruck.

After a quick shower and a change of clothes Sonic was feeling a little bit better. He walked out with a blue short-sleeved shirt and blue jeans. He was currently pulling his white gloves on as he walked over the side of the chair and grabbed his trademark shoes and started to put them on, tying them tight.

He stood up and did a few leg stretches before stretching out his back one more time. When he was done he realized that both Percy and Annabeth were watching him. Percy was sitting down on one of the other small chairs his arms over the back of it to make it more conferrable, and Annabeth was leaning against the wall. He also noticed that both of their feet were tapping but he didn't think much of it.

"So what's the plan for today?" Percy asked, he still sounded tired but he also looked eager to start searching for the emeralds.

Sonic turned around to face them. "Well until Tails wakes up were stuck here."

"So what are we going to do to pass the time?" Annabeth asked.

Sonic grinned as he pulled out the green gemstone. "I have an idea." He said.

XXX

"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Annabeth asked Sonic as the three where now in the lobby.

"Well as long as we're stuck here, we might as well look for an emerald." Sonic stated as his arms were crossed and he was tapping his foot impatiently.

"He's right Annabeth, it beets sitting here doing nothing. Besides, we might get lucky." Percy said as he was standing next to Sonic.

Annabeth gave both boys a deadpanned look. "So why am I staying behind again?" she asked.

"Because we need someone to look after Tails. I don't want him waking up and finding us all gone." He said and his face showed some sorrow for a moment remembering what had happened to the former fox's parents.

Annabeth let out a long sigh as she closed her grey eyes and shook her head. "Fine…I'll look over him. But as soon as he wakes up, were joining up with you two alright?" She asked/demanded.

Percy and Sonic both nodded with a grin.

Annabeth gave Percy a kiss on the cheek and a hard stare at Sonic before she started to head back to the room.

Sonic looked over at the now red face of Percy Jackson and he couldn't help but smile. "You got one heck of a girl. You know that?" he asked as he turned around on a dime and started to walk out of the hotel.

Percy smiled as his blush seemed to darken. "Yeah, I know." He said as he ran to catch up with the blue blur.

Once outside they started to walk around the town to both look for any signs of the emeralds and to see the sights. Sonic could feel some people stare at him for his odd dress and hair color but he really didn't care. He let out a sigh as he waited for Percy to come out of a store he had walked in. It was a small jewelry shop that apparently solid gold rings for only $100. 'Odd, I find those all the time. They can't be that valuable. Can they?' He thought to himself.

Before Sonic could think any more about the rings Percy walked out with a grin causing Sonic to raise an eyebrow. "I found us a lead." He said.

Sonics' eyes brightened as he smiled. "All right! What do you got?" he asked.

"Well, apparently all the gems to make the rings and necklaces that the shop keeper gets have come from the national park. He said it isn't far from here." Percy said as he pointed to the mountains.

Sonic nodded as he started to walk that way quickly while Percy followed right beside him. Sonic looked over at him and saw the boy was thinking over something. Sonic turned around so he was waking backwards and placed his hands behind his head in a boyish way. "What's on your mind?" he asked.

Percy jumped a little not expecting for Sonic to talk to him. He let out a sigh as he shook his head. "It's just what that man said before I left." He said.

Sonic raised a curios eyebrow at him. "What he say?"

Percy shook his head with a frown. "He said watch out for the one who runs the gate." He said.

Sonic furrowed his brow in confusion. "What does that mean?"

Percy just shook his head but his frown seemed to deepen. "I don't know, but I think we're about to find out."

Sonic blinked as he turned around to see a large gate/ tollbooth. It was large and made out of what Sonic would guess oak wood. He furrowed his brow a little as he noticed the line of people, however he felt a strange but familiar power start to flow through him. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the Chaos Emerald and found that it was starting to glow.

"The emerald!" Percy said surprised to see it glowing like that.

Sonic nodded with a grin. "It's reacting to something." He said. He froze however when he noticed a large shadow had suddenly covered over both himself the emerald and Percy.

They both looked up to see a tall man who was dressed in a dark brown shirt with torn up grey pants. He had on what looked like a black vest that had some spikes on the shoulders. His face was covered in a black beard and his green eyes were cold.

It was however when he spoke caused both Percy and Sonic to gulp. "That's a nice emerald." He said in a gruffly voice that had been made from years of smoking.

Sonic chuckled weakly as he stepped back holding onto the emerald a little tighter. "Uh thanks."

The man narrowed his eyes at the blue haired boy before turning his gaze over to Percy who faltered a bit. The man stared at Percy for what seemed like a good awkward minute before giving a huff and turning around and beginning to walk away.

Sonic blinked and gave the man a curios look before looking over at Percy who looked rather disturbed. "I think he liked you."

Percy gave the smirking blue haired boy a glare before walking away. Sonic quickly caught up with him still grinning. Percy shook his head with a sigh as he looked over the pricing to get into the park. It took him a minute but he was able to read '$30 for adult, free for kids under 10'

Percy patted his pockets and let out a frustrated sigh. All he had was his pen/sword and a few drachmas for emergencies. He looked over at Sonic who shook his head. "Don't look at me, I don't even know what you all use as money"

The demigod let out a sigh as he looked over the large line of people. "Well that's great." He grumbled. "How are we going to get in now?"

Sonic shook his head and started to look around. He saw that the whole mountain was blocked by some metal fencing that connected to the oak gateway. Sonic frowned as he realized that they needed to get in, but without money they were stuck on the other side.

He was pulled out of his thoughts when he spotted something odd a bit away. He quickly dashed over to the location and found that there were some wooden planks covering a part of the fencing. The blue blur raised an eyebrow, 'Why would anyone put wood over a metal fence?' he asked himself silently. Sonic stared at it for a moment before realization hit him and he facepalmed. "Duh!" he said.

He looked around first to see if anyone was nearby and when he didn't see anyone he got down on his knees and grabbed one of the wooden planks and started to pull. 'If I had my spin-dash this would have been so much easier.' He thought to himself. He froze however when he heard footsteps behind him. Sonic quickly got to his feet and leaned agents the wooden fence trying to act like he wasn't doing anything. Heck he was even whistling a little tone.

"You know the whistling gives you away." A familiar voice spoke up as Sonic blinked in confusion before Percy began to approach him a grin on his face.

Sonic chuckled a bit embarrassed. "I guess it dose. Does it?" he asked.

Percy nodded before he gave the boy a bit of a confused look. "What are you doing? The last time I checked you were right next to me then you were gone." He asked.

Sonic smiled shamelessly as he rubbed the back of his head, "I tend to do that" he said. He lifted off the wall and started to walk forward. "For what I was doing," he looked down at the wooden planks, "I think I found us a free way in." he smirked.

Percy stared at him for a moment before looking at the wood planks. He couldn't help the grin that came to his lips. "Well, what are we waiting for?" he asked excitingly as he started to pull on one of the wooden planks with Sonic helping him.

The planks came off rather easily with their combined effort and they were now staring at a moderately good size hole, but what caught Sonic and Percy off guard was the fact of how the hole had seemed to have been made.

The metal looked bended to the point of breaking, and Sonic could faintly see where the pieces of metal were cut off. 'More like bitten off' he thought. Never the less, he walked past the hole and onto the other side with Percy right by his side.

Sonic grinned a little. He brought out his green gem and felt its power wash over him. His grin turned into a smile feeling its power. He turned to look at Percy and gave a slight nod. "Let's go find that emerald!" he said with his trademark grin.

Percy nodded with a grin of his own. "You got it!"

They followed the glow of the chaos emerald going deeper into the national park, passing by trees and small rivers. Sonic smiled wide, enjoying the nature all around him. When one lived in a world of machines with very little nature left, it was nice to see something like this.

Percy on the other hand was a different story. Sonic looked back at the demigod and could only smirk at how the poor guy was having a bit of a harder time moving through the trees and vines. "Not much of a nature guy, are you?" Sonic asked.

Percy huffed slightly. "I like nature enough. I go to camp for that stuff. Still I'm more of a beach kind of guy." The demigod reviled.

Sonic smirked slightly. "The beach huh? Sounds nice. As long as I stay as far away from the water I'm all good."

"Can't swim?"

"We don't get along very well."

"Can't swim."

Sonic glared lightly at the smirking demigod. "Okay fine. I can't swim. Never needed to honestly."

"What if Eggman ever hid his base underwater?" Percy asked casually only to pause as Sonic seemed to stiffen at that and did not move.

Percy looked back at him to see the wide eyed scared look on the former hedgehog's face. It was enough to make the demigod bust out into laughter.

Not funny! Sonic thought shaking his head in fear. Eggman for some reason had yet to do that and for once he was thankful for the mad doctor to simply ignore that small detail. The blue blur glared at the demigod and with a huff walked passed him.

Percy continued to chuckle as he followed behind him but Sonic paid him no mind focusing only on the chaos emerald in his hand. The glow was getting brighter giving him relief that at least they were going the right way.

Soon however Sonic and Percy made it to the large mountain. Looking up Sonic had to whistle in admiration. It was large yet nothing to big. Granted he did travel through a few mountains in his life, some in the shape of pumpkins to even ones made from candy. His world was strange in that regard. Still seeing a normal large green mountain brought back some good memories to the blue blur.

"So, we going to climb this thing or…?" Percy asked.

Sonic smirked slightly at that. Climb? Bah. He could run up the darn thing if he wanted to. Still that was a steep mountain and he honestly did not want to risk tripping over something and plummeting back down. So, he shook his head. "You said they were doing mining, here right? So, there must be a mining opening somewhere."

Percy nodded to that. "Right." He muttered and the two started to walk around the base of the mountain looking for anything. "Anything from the emerald?" Percy asked.

Sonic nodded. "It's glowing. We're getting close."

"How close?"

"How should I know? All I know is that when it glows it means were getting closer." Sonic shrugged.

"I hope something happens soon." Percy said lifting his arms behind his head.

Just as he said that the ground underneath them caved in causing the two to let out surprised yells as they fell. They tumbled and rolled in the tunnel and soon were sent flying out and onto the dirt ground below Sonic first before Percy came in and landed on top of the former hedgehog making him groan in pain.

"Not what I meant." Percy groaned as he slowly got up and helped Sonic up who dusted himself off.

"Well that was fun." The blue blur snarked dusting himself off.

"Where are we?" Percy asked looking around the very dark interior.

Sonic looked around as well and narrowed his eyes. "If I had to guess I would say we are inside of the mountain."

"Inside?" Percy asked before noticing some light a bit further in. "There's some light."

"Good, maybe some people who can help." Sonic said and then sprinting to the source leaving Percy behind who yelled out to wait. Sonic did not hear him in time and continued to run seeing the light getting larger and brighter also the faint sound of someone…digging?

Sonic came to a stop as he entered a large room that glistened and shined with many gems and crystals that were embedded into the crust of the earth. It was very bright almost blinding the former hedgehog but he could make out shapes working down below as he found himself on a ledge.

They were all digging into the earth digging up more gems and crystals and moving them onto a trolley to be sent out. They only thing though was that these were not humans. No, they were small harry individuals who not only looked ugly but had scrunched up faces that looked like they did not get a lot of sun or sunlight. Sonic could only blink in confusion. "What in the world?"
