He walked quickly towards the far side of the abbey. A section restricted to all children, down there was where all the dangerous ones lived. All abbey kids were threats to themselves and others, but those, they were unstable, they could snap at a moment's notice. And just that night his friend had been stashed away there.

He had stabbed a guard, a very stupid move, made worse from the fact that he'd stabbed his own roommate minutes before. The boy had been dragged away kicking and screaming. His shouts had been palpable all night, tortured sounds from a demonic child. Boris had damn near sentenced him to death. And had very nearly followed through on that threat.

Kai walked through the halls, tugging at his old smelly rag like clothes. He very nearly looked behind him to tell the redhead to quicken his pace, but caught himself. The boy was sleeping back in the cell, and despite there being no one around he refused to accept that he'd come to appreciate the boy's company.

Kai ran his hand across the dirty concrete wall, his fingers feeling every bump. And though the stone walls were hard and jagged he could feel as he stepped into the forbidden section. The small bumps turned into sharp spikes, jabbing into his flesh and drawing small pinpricks of blood.

The halls were already dark but the small candles that lit the way vanished, immersing him in darkness. His footsteps bounced off the walls ringing in his ears.

He could see, through squinted eyes, a row of doors at the end of the hall. The bars replaced with inch thick steel. As he neared the bangs from irate children behind the doors rang loud and clear. What could only be describe as grinding and gnashing coming through the few silent moments.

Kai bent to the floor, running his fingers across the harsh surface trying to detect a stone. Once he found a suitable rock he righted himself, launching the fragment at the Steel door directly opposite him. It wasn't just that door creating the racket but the vibration would do its job. The stone struck the steel, the dang from contact silencing every cell. Making his job far easier.

Marching to the doors he knocked on one, a feral growl coming from within. Not that one. The next cell.

"I'm telling you, I'm an alien!" A squeaky voice piped up, sounding broken. He could imagine whatever child was beyond those doors jumping against the wall, a small thud sounding like feet solidifying his theory. Not that one either.

He knocked on the one beside it hearing a strange chant coming from within, two voices making it. When he pressed his ear to the door it shook, a loud vibration rapping against the door and a cry coming from in, the only tangible human words being.

"Curse! I curse thee!" Whether the boy was trying to curse him or whatever he had been arguing with Kai wasn't sure.

He came to the next, already deciding that his friend wasn't inside. Knocking on the door he listened for whatever gibberish or curse he'd be placed under now.

"What do ya want? Can you stop knockin' you're sending the mentals into a fit." A groggy voice asked, sounding annoyed and completely exhausted. But he recognised the voice nonetheless.

"Bryan."

"Kai! That you?" The lilac haired boy yelled, relief filling him.

"Yeah, you idiot, why'd you get yourself locked up?"

"Sorry Kai, but they were begging for it. I'd have been torturing myself not to."

"Then do that. You know how much of a pain it'll be to break out of here with you gone?" He smirked as the words left his lips. That'd grab his attention.

"Break out?"

"Yeah, we're gettin' out of here. All of us, even the new kid."

"W-What? Why? When we talked before you shot us down, why the sudden change?" Bryan asked, his footsteps could be heard from inside, padding over and stopping by the heavy door.

"That kid ain't gonna survive in here. I don't know why so don't bother askin' but I gotta look after him. I'm not lettin' an innocent die."

"Gettin' close to him ay Kai?" The violent child teased.

"I don't want an innocent to die. He'd innocent we're not. He doesn't deserve to be here we do." He didn't rise to the bait, smirking at the silence from behind the door. "Bryan, I'll get you out of here. You're going to be last though, I'll go get Spencer and Ian. I'm not leaving anyone behind."

"Why'd you come get me then?"

"Cos I know you. You'd kick a fuss when your food is brought. Try an' pass the guard and get yourself strung up. I'm here to tell ya to stay quiet, sit in the corner and don't talk. Let 'em think you're gone. I'll be back. I'll knock three times." Though he couldn't see him Kai was sure he could hear him nod and with that he walked off. In search of the flee and the giant.

Ian and Spencer were far easier to find, they were stood in the training hall being forced to spar against one another. Spencer was twice Ian's size but the small boy was holding him own, managing to deflect a great deal of his punches.

The guards were all occupied, walking around the room and observing. None were near the two and Kai leaned against the door as he watched, smirking.

He didn't say anything for a few minutes, merely watching amused as they fought. Neither had any particular righting skills when they arrived but they'd put up one hell of a fight against police now.

All the guards were facing away and Kai took his chance.

"Ian, Spencer." He whispered, gaining the two opposites attention instantly.

"Kai? What're you doin' here? They've sent guards out looking for you. They look pissed."

"I don't care about that, look, we're breaking out of here. We don't have time to plan, actually, I don't want to spend time planning. Just get out of there and help me free Bryan. The idiot got himself locked up."

They seemed more concerned with that piece of information. Ian snickering while a small smile graced the wordless mountain that was Spencer.

"So that's who it was? I swear, I spend more time getting him out of shit and putting him in it in the first place."

"I don't care Ian, just move it before I have to come up with an actual plan."

"You haven't got a plan?" He hissed, eyes going as big as his nose.

"No, and I don't want to form one. It'd take far too long so just run before the guard turn to look." He was beginning to get exasperated, the blond was the easy one it was the shrimp that always dug his heels. Especially when it included Bryan.

They looked conflicted, but Spencer plodded over, still not saying a word. He tilted his head to the side, silently asking the problem.

"I need you to help me break him out. I had to get you first. I'm not leaving either of you behind in this hellhole." Spencer seemed satisfied, smiling and moving from the doorway. He towered over both of them but was the easier to control of the two.

"I don't mind this place Kai. Why'd I wanna leave? I can live and survive here."

"Yeah, till you're old enough to be executed." Kai countered, glaring at the boy. Like many he was deluded, thinking they could survive in the abbey. But Kai knew better, he'd seen many die here and he wasn't goin to let the closest things he had to friends perish too.

"They wouldn't. I'm a good kid here. Yeah I fucked up before but I'm gonna live it out. And I'll have my normal life." Kai scoffed, not intending to be quite as agitated as he was.

"Suit yourself, Spencer, you coming?" The tall man nodded, looking down to his companion before nodding once more.

"Y-You're kiddin' me, right Spence? You're not going to try and leave. Neither of you were suicidal, I thought." Ian protested, grabbing at his purple hair.

"We're not, we're going to get out of here and be free. You want to live in a cesspool of dirt and murder be my guest but we're gettin' out." Turning Kai didn't glance back as he went to make his way back to the redhead. If they were going to follow they would, he wouldn't stop nor force them.

He could hear heavy footsteps from behind and smirked, at least one of them was coming. And from the quickness of another set, almost drowned out, he knew he'd been successful.

"For the record, I'm not doing this for you. I can't leave Spencer alone, it's my job to look after him." The bluenette nodded, though he really didn't want to dignify it with a response. If the small boy didn't want to admit to yearning for freedom he wasn't going to force him.

"Hurry up, the guards are sure to notice you're gone."

"So be it, we'll lay all the blame on you. We may be friends but it's survival of the fittest." He could accept that, laws of the abbey hung over all else. Those who defy those laws are fed to the wolves.

"Understood."

The three walked back towards the cells, dodging guards. Though there were some there was nowhere near the amount they'd expected. The cell containing the small redhead was coming into view. Kai quickened his pace, unexplainably anxious to see the redhead was still there and fine.

Grabbing onto the bars of the cell he swung himself inside, the other two knowing to wait outside. And there, curled up on the lumpy sorry excuse for a mattress was the redhead, his knees pulled in tight to his chest. His eyes were lightly closed, his breathing shallow and soft. Kai crouched before him, brushing aside two strands of crimson hair. The boy stirred at the soft touch, his eyes flickering as he cracked them open, two cyan pools revealed to the world.

"K-Kai?" He stuttered around a long suppressed yawn.

"Yeah, time to wake up kid." Settling back on his toes he looked closely at the boy as he tried to wake up.

"W-What's going on?"

"We're breaking out that's what. But I still gotta free one more. The idiot's locked up and I can't go back for him. As soon as his door opens we're making a break for it. Understand? So I can't come back for you." He wasn't a fan of speaking long speeches, but the boy wouldn't understand. Unlike the others he hadn't grown up around him and couldn't notice the subtle changes in him.

"Oh, alright then." His voice was swamped in sleep, eyes still lidded giving off an even more exhausted and innocent look to him. No, he really wouldn't survive here.

"Get up, let's go." Nodding he followed after the bluenette, smoothing down his abbey garments, shuffling in them till they fit a little better.

oooo

They walked in an automatic fashion, Kai stood up front with Tala just a little behind. He was far too new to trust the others yet. Ian and Spencer stood side by side at the back, though if looking from the front one would only see the giant blond lumbering along.

They found themselves walking easily back to the steel door cells their comrade was locked in, the abbey guards either unknowing or uncaring of the children's disappearance. The rows of cells stood out massively against the dusty bricks, the noise coming from them filling the silence they'd walked in.

Ian's eyes widened as he stared at the doors, he'd never been this close to them before but knowing Bryan was locked in one cell made a smile spread across his lips. The violent boy would be itching to punch the other inmates. Ian sauntered up to the cell Kai pointed out to being his. He knocked three times and was thrown back slightly from a heavy bang against the inside of the cell.

"Kai? Kai, that you? Please be you, I'm goin' insane. I'm gonna kill these bastards." The lilac haired boy pleaded, and they could almost see him, in their mind's eye, pressed against the door touching it lightly.

"Bryan step back." The bluenette commanded before the small boy could crush his hopes like he could see he wanted. Footsteps could be heard as he retreated back into his prison. "Spencer, stand beside the door, you're a freak and you're giving me a lift." The blond nodded, following the instructions. He pressed his back to the door, his head stopping half way up.

There were three latches on the door. One was the standard one settled beside Spencer head, which he was already releasing. And the other two were located in top of the door. The first could be seen if the person knew what they were looking for. While the second was known only to the guards.

But that wasn't stopping Kai. He was inept at sneaking into and out of places. He could unlock any door put before him. This wouldn't be any different.

Climbing the freak of nature he was lifted to the top of the door, his small fingers fumbling for the lock. Finding it he slipped it from its home, a heavy locking sound ringing through the hall.

"What was that?" Bryan asked, pressing even harder against the door.

"The third lock was activated. I'll get it now. Spencer, move me closer to the hinges." He instructed, keeping his fingers on the doorframe. The blond followed orders, allowing Kai to unlatch the lock hidden in the hinges. Jumping down from the tall boy he grabbed the latch and twisted, Bryan falling out with the door. There was a soft thud but the boy righted himself grinning more than he ever had in his life.

There was no time for celebration, as soon as the group turned to escape a shout froze them.

"What the hell are you brats doing?"
