Chapter 10
"Monk! Laura! I am so sorry! Let me just, uh, step out for a moment! Call me back in when you are, um, dressed," Victor said covering his eyes while attempting to open the front door.
After the door closed, Laura said whit covering her face with her hands, "Oh my God. That poor man. I think we scarred him for life. I am so embarrassed!"
Kevin untangled himself from Laura and began wondering around the living room quickly picking up their clothes. "I'll talk to him. Don't worry."
"Kevin! You'll talk to him? The poor man is outside probably looking for something to cut his eyes out with. I don't think there is anything you can say that will make this better," Laura said while taking her clothes from Kevin and putting them on.
"Are you regretting what we did?"
Laura paused buttoning her blouse and took his hands in hers. "No. Never. It was amazing. I just wish we didn't shock Victor like that."
Kevin gave a small smile and leaned down to whisper in her ear, "Next time we take it to the bedroom."
Laura laughed and said, "You are incorrigible."
"You make me incorrigible."
The two finished getting dressed and Laura said, "Well, I better get going."
"Are you sure? Once Victor calms down, we all can finish watching this movie."
Laura rubbed her hand up and down his arm. "Spend the rest of the day with your traumatized father. I'll come around sometime tomorrow."
"Can I call you tonight?"
"After what we just did, you don't need to ask."
Kevin smiled. "I like to be a gentleman."
Laura quickly kissed Kevin and went out the front door. She passed Victor on her way to her car. "Its safe to go in Victor. I'm so sorry."
Victor, who still wouldn't look Laura in the eyes, said, "I hope you know what you are doing, Laura."
Laura was taken aback. She stopped in her steps. "What do you mean?"
"Monk is remembering things. He can't place people or places, but he remembers words and phrases that made a difference in his life. What if he connects the dots and puts together that the two of you are married and have a life together?"
"He's not supposed to remember anything. How is he remembering things when Dr. Monroe said he would have no recollection of the last few years?"
Victor invited Laura to sit with him on the bench outside. "I don't understand it either. But, what I told him was somethings are etched in your heart that you don't need a piece of your brain to remember. What if he finds out you have been keeping his life a secret from him? He will be heart broken."
"Dr. Monroe told me not to tell him anything! Don't you think I want to run in there and yell it out loud that he is my husband? That I love him and he loves me! That we made a life together!" Laura sobbed.
Victor embraced Laura. "I know you do. I know. I just don't want things to turn sour if he happens to remember. Because for some reason, Laura, you are etched in his heart. He doesn't need that piece of his brain to remember you. His heart holds all his memories of you. Soon, something will click for him. He will figure out that you are the woman who is behind the memories."
"What do I do, Victor?"
Victor hugged her tighter. "I don't know. Maybe ask Dr. Monroe if you can tell Kevin about the two years that he is missing. Tell him about Kevin's recollections of some moments that he remembers words but not faces. Maybe hold off on any romantic intertwining for a while. I honestly don't know, Laura. I just don't want either of you to get hurt."
Laura sighed and gave Victor a kiss on the cheek. She said, "Thank you, Victor. So much. I don't know what I would do without you." Victor smiled as Laura got up to leave. She turned around after a few steps and said, "Oh! And again, I am so sorry that you walked in on us on the couch like that."
"I'll only be traumatized for a few decades. No worries," Victor replied with a laugh.
Laura laughed and continued walking to her car. She pulled out her cell phone and began texting the only person who could help her figure out her next steps of action.
"Laura, come in. Your text sounded urgent," said Felicia letting Laura enter her house.
"Thanks for allowing me to come over. I wasn't sure who else I could talk to," replied Laura.
"Let's sit in the living room and you can tell me what's wrong."
The two frenemies sat on opposite ends of the couch and Felicia asked, "So, what's got you so rattled?"
"Kevin and I almost had sex."
"Excuse me?"
"He called me last night and asked if I would come over to visit him like I did in the hospital. You know, how I lied and made up a false program just to see my memory-less husband."
"Yeah. Continue," said Felicia with an urging hand gesture.
"So, I went over late this morning after Victor picked up Spencer to spend the day with him. We were watching a movie and Kevin did the classic yawn and stretch move. So, we snuggled together and I don't know what came over me. I began kissing his neck and the next thing I knew, clothes were coming off and it was really hot in there."
Felicia's eyes grew wide and her hands covered her mouth in shock. "Oh my God! Laura! What happened next?"
Laura replied, "Well, when we were finished fooling around, we stayed on the couch and he covered us with a blanket. Five seconds later, Victor walks in."
"No!"
"Yes! The poor man will be traumatized for life."
"He'll get over it. But Laura, aren't you suppose to keep your distance?"
Laura rubbed her eyes in frustration. "I guess, but he's my husband, Felicia. I miss him. He wanted me too. I know he feels a connection to me. He just doesn't understand why."
Felicia frowned. "What are you going to do?"
Laura responded, "I'm going to ask Griffin if I can tell him about the missing two years. Victor told me Kevin is remembering things."
"What is he remembering?" Felicia asked.
"He remembers specific words or phrases that represent an important moment. Like before our little rendezvous, he said, "My God, you have beautiful eyes." He said that exact same thing while he was wounded after Cassadine Island on the plane. Then, last night we were talking on the phone and he said, "As long as you're with me, I'm happy." He said those exact words when he asked me to move in with him!"
"Laura, maybe he is just saying those things. Maybe he doesn't know that he said them before."
Laura shook her head and said, "No. Victor told me Kevin told him that he remembered saying those words before. Kevin is remembering me. Us. I know he is."
"I thought that once he lost that piece of his brain that those memories would be long gone."
Laura scoffed. "Yeah, I thought so too, but I guess we are both wrong. What do I do, Felicia?"
"Wait. Didn't Kevin write himself a letter explaining his life before he went in for surgery?"
"Oh My God! I forgot all about that letter."
"Maybe ask Griffin if he still has it. See if you can give it to Kevin."
Laura asked, "Do you think Kevin will hate me for not telling him about his missing two years?"
Felicia sighed. "He might, but he also loves you very much. He might be mad, but he'll forgive you. Griffin told you not to tell him anything. It wasn't your fault you had to keep him in the dark." Felicia took a deep breath and said, "Laura, I know we were never best friends, but we did respect one another. I also know that I really hurt you when I slept with Luke. Ever since then, there has always been this tension between us. But, you make my best friend extremely happy. Lucy really hurt him. Multiple times. Lucy may be one of my dearest friends, but she made a ginormous mistake when she gave up what she had with Kevin. He was so down in the dumps for the years following his divorce. The moment he told us he was getting to know you and helping you with Helena's puzzle, there was a light in his eyes that wasn't there in a very long time."
Laura wiped the tears falling down her cheeks and said, "Thank you. I really mean that. I know we have been at each other's throats in the past, but I hope you know that it is water under the bridge. Our daughters are best friends. Our husbands are best friends. We are stuck together. I know that I never told you that I forgave you, but I do forgive you, Felicia. That was a horrible time for both of our marriages. Who was I to harp and yell at you, when I did the same thing?"
Felicia replied, "Thank you, Laura. And thanks for coming to me."
"Well, when I was thinking who to text it was either you, LuLu, or Tiffany. I can't talk to my daughter about my sex life. So, she was off the list. And Tiffany, she's my best friend, but she hasn't seen daily life here in Port Charles for decades. So, that left you. And I'm glad it did."
Felicia smiled at her new friend.
Victor and Kevin ate dinner in silence. Kevin wasn't sure how to broach the subject and Victor couldn't even look Kevin in the eyes. I have to bring it up. It's the only way we can live together. We have to clear the air. "Victor, I just want to apologize for what you walked into. You were never meant to see that. I am sorry."
Victor, not looking up from his dinner plate, said, "It's fine, Monk."
"If it's fine, then look at me."
"Monk, what you do with your private jiggly parts is your business. I just hope you are taking things slow."
"I know it seems like Laura and I escalated our relationship, but my heart is telling me that we are just meant to be. I've only really known her for two weeks, but it feels like more. It's weird. I don't understand it. I met her over twenty years ago and she was never on my radar. Something weird happened when Laura came over today."
"What happened? Nothing looked weird from where I was standing."
Kevin rolled his eyes. He said, "Nothing in regards to that. When she first arrived, I looked into her eyes and they are so blue. Actually, her eyes are the same shade of blue I saw last night when I was talking to Laura on the phone. So, I complimented her eyes. But, I feel like I've said that exact compliment before."
Victor nervously swallowed. "Monk, you've probably complimented many women's eyes before."
Kevin shook his head. "No. I felt like I said those words to her before. But, when? We never ran in the same circles."
"I don't know, Monk. Maybe you should head to the doctors and ask about these memory flashes. Maybe they are nothing and you are focusing on them for no reason," said Victor attempting to get Kevin off this subject of conversation.
"Yeah. Maybe you're right," Kevin said returning to his meal.
After they finished dinner and watched some prime time shows, Victor and Kevin said goodnight and went to their separate rooms for the night. Kevin was lying in bed contemplating whether or not to call Laura. Although Laura said she would welcome his phone call, he doesn't want to come off as overwhelming. But, he desperately wants to hear her voice before falling asleep. He pressed on her contact and listened to the rings before he heard his favorite voice say, "I've been waiting for you."
"I wasn't sure if you still wanted me to call you after everything we did today."
"Are you serious? You are always a welcome conversation. I enjoy you," said Laura.
"Laura, I'm so puzzled by this," replied Kevin.
Laura nervously swallowed. "What are you puzzled by?"
"I've only known you for two weeks, but here I am craving your presence and needing to hear your voice before I fall asleeep."
"I feel the same way."
Kevin said, "But why so fast? I've never fallen this fast for someone in my life. I always take things slow, but with you it feels as if I've loved you in another life."
Laura questioned, "Love?"
Kevin stuttered. "What I meant was that, uh, that in a past life we were together as a couple. You know, like our spirits were in other people and those people were in love and now those spirits are in us. Does that make sense?"
Laura sighed. "More than you know."
"Well, change of subject. I did not finish that movie."
Laura laughed. "Maybe we could finish it tomorrow when I come over after my hospital board meeting."
"Are you sure you want to finish it? I think it gets us distracted," Kevin said with a flirty tone.
"Well, I enjoyed the distraction. Immensly."
"We should watch that movie all the time then."
Laura replied, "All the time?"
"With you, I'll watch that movie twenty four - seven."
"I can't wait."
"I'll let you get some rest. You'll need it for our movie date tomorrow," Kevin said.
Laura blushed and replied, "Just make sure Victor can't be terrified. Poor man."
"Trust me. I'll make sure he has plans all day."
Laura began to feel hot. "I'll see you tomorrow, Kevin. I can't wait."
Kevin responded, "Neither can I."
