Amaya stared at the compass on her palm, the needles were pointing everywhere, as if they were in a magnetic field. Amaya tried moving a few steps away and even shook the compass vigorously. "Rin-kun, I think we are near." Amaya showed Rin the malfunctioning compass. "Hehe. We hit jackpot!" Rin started to draw his sword, a big grin plastered on his face as blue flames appeared engulfing his body. Amaya can't help but admire Rin's power and how his friends had come to trust and rely on those blue flames of his. "Wait.. wait!" Amaya tried to hold Rin back, remembering Yukio's request at keeping Rin in check, "We should notify Yukio, Shura and the rest first!"
Rin sighed and nodded, before sheathing his sword grouchily. Amaya was right, he should learn to stop being so hot-blooded. The two of them stood in the middle of the mountain ground, there was nothing but thick and dense trees. The moon was hidden behind the clouds making the only light source the lantern now. There were mist obscuring their view but no doubt, with the eerie aura surrounding the area, the moth's nest is near. Amaya squatted down, trying to light up the signal flare. "It's not working!" Amaya was evidently frustrated as the stick extinguished immediately as it light up.
While Amaya was frantically fiddling with the signal flare, the light in the lantern suddenly went off. "Rin! Something is coming!" Kuro jumped onto Rin's shoulder, his tail upright at the oncoming danger. Slowly the moon came into view, illuminating the whole forest which was unnervingly silent. A sense of uneasiness washed over them as Amaya and Rin looked around, as they regained their vision. A gust of wind swept across the ground and at the same time, thousands of moths materialized out of thin air. "Amaya!" Rin yelled, immediately unsheathing his sword and igniting his blue flames. The moths began to attack them indiscriminately, flying towards them in hordes.
"Delicious…The smell…." A gigantic moth appeared hovering above the trees, its silhouette magnifying its size against the moon's light. "Food…" A horrible realization dawned upon the two of them, if a demon is able to speak, no matter how indistinctly the words are, it is an extremely powerful demon. Amaya yell for Rin too as Rin tried to fend off the oncoming hordes of insects. "There's too many, damn it!" Rin cursed, the more he cut down, the more appeared in replacement.
The giant moth, the head demon apparently, swooped down to attack the exwires. The sudden impact destroyed many trees nearby, with Amaya being thrown to a far side as Rin held his ground trying to cut the gigantic moth as its mandible was pressed against his sword. It was evident that the moth attacked Rin first for his flames were too bright and eye-catching. "…Too much chore… the girl…" Words that were barely audible came from the moth and just as sudden as its appearance, the moth retreated trying to catch the other fallen prey. The moth had looked forward to an easy meal, but Rin who was slowly winning in terms of strength had left the moth looking for alternative. "Get over here, damn it!" Rin yelled, trying to rush over to Amaya's aide before his path was being blocked by the hordes of smaller but still lethal moths.
The impact of her fall caused Amaya's knees to bleed, and her right cheek was cut as well. She silently wiped the blood off her cheek, and drew her sword which she carried on her back. Amaya knew that it was time for her to stand up and to learn to protect herself, it was time for all those crazy swordfight practice with Shura to pay off. Amaya trod silently, trying to find her way back to her partner. She winced as she moved, her bruises were not as light a wound as it seems. Unfortunately, a few steps forward had her once again encircled by the large numbers of small moths.
Amaya couldn't help but shudder as she thought back to the time when her home was destroyed by such similar creatures. This feeling of déjà vu had brought about a sense of dread in her. No.. this is no time for fear! Amaya bravely began to cut her way through the numerous creatures, her hands shaking as she tried to wield her sword upright. A bright red flame billowed from her sword, the flame was emitting from her body as well. Her attack had seemed to be effective at first but there were just too many moths, it was wearing Amaya out as she tried to catch her breath. Not giving up, Amaya continued onward, encased in the protective red flames, constantly yelling for Rin's name. "…Here…." Came a distant reply.
Amaya's eyes twinkled with hope as she ran to the source of the voice. The supposedly reply from Rin gave Amaya strength as she tried to reunite with her partner. "Rin! I am coming!" However, the demon she came face to face to, was not the one Amaya was looking for. Amaya stared at the giant moth, her body rigid with shock. "Hello… there…."
Amaya's scream reverberated throughout the night sky as the red flames slowly faded into oblivion. A giant figure rose up into the air before swiftly disappearing back to where it belongs, its clutches holding its captured prey with pride.
