Yes, the date chapter is real! And this chapter is the final one for this story!
The World God Only Knows
The End of Our Short Time
Chapter 10 – Heart to Heart
This was definitely not her idea. Haqua's face flushed as she tried keeping her skirt from being blown by the wind again. She could feel eyes staring at her from many sides, though her former buddy insisted that she shouldn't have brought her scythe with her. She should spend her time having fun with him rather than beating him to death using the deadly-looking weapon. That wasn't going to happen if that guy wasn't so insensitive towards her and also if he didn't show up late for the setup date.
The former devil had been waiting for him for over half an hour and the purple long dress she was forced to wear was starting to become a nuisance in the windy weather. She was going to wear her usual outfit if it wasn't for Yukie insisting her to dress nicely. She could wear anything she wanted but she knew that he wouldn't care about how she dressed.
"Oh, you're here," the familiar voice behind her caused her a mini heart attack as she nervously turned to him.
The God of Conquest was surprisingly well dressed, or at least well enough to cause the former devil to blush. Even with his bed hair still there, the simple white polo shirt and blue jeans were enough to cover for his untidy look. He was prepared for someone without any actual dating experience, though there was one other thing that caught her attention.
"Why do you have that with you?" Haqua asked in annoyance as she eyed the game console in his hands.
"I need to finish this game by tonight," Keima replied flatly, not even bothering to look at his date of the day, "Don't mind me, you can just enjoy the rides today for free."
Annoyed, the blue-haired woman slapped the console off his hands and the device fell into the nearby fountain. Keima watched in horror as his beloved PFP drowned in the fountain's water, but he was pulled back forcefully before he could reach out for his console and went face-to-face the angry former devil, "Why can't you just think about me and not your games for this whole day?! Can't you understand how I'm so looking forward to this day?!"
Keima looked at her casually, "Well, that explains everything about your clothes."
She stared at the gamer for a few seconds, completely flushed, before she pushed him aside quietly. She eyed the PFP console at the bottom of the water and took it out before quickly shoving it to the unexpecting Keima. She ignored his obvious confusion as she walked ahead for the entrance, "Come on, let's just go in already!"
Keima saw that his PFP was clearly wet and beyond saving before he let out a sigh as he followed the former devil into the park, "Yeah, yeah… I'm coming…"
What Keima didn't expect when coming into the park was how he was dragged out to various rides he was never interested in. Or rather, the fast-moving rides he always avoided as he never wanted to drop his PFP while on the ride. Other than being dragged around, the God of Conquest also noticed how Haqua was like a little girl during her first visit to a theme park. Always wanting to try everything and every ride with the exception of a certain one.
"W-We're not going into this one," Haqua nervously said as she stared at the haunted house standing in front of her, "Katsuragi, did you hear me?"
The gamer was lying on the bench after getting on various extreme rides as he was never used to those things. Had he known things like this would happen, he wouldn't have bothered to get on with Yukie's plan and declined the tickets in the first place. He could've spent the entire day locked up in his room and played his games rather than trying out dangerous rides.
Still, it was a surprise that he got to see another side of Haqua he hardly saw. She was all smiles and energetic, unlike her usually serious self and how she would abuse her scythe when he didn't even feel like doing anything wrong. Even with the incident earlier that day, at least he was glad that the former devil didn't have her scythe with her.
The orange sky was the last thing he saw before he closed his eyes. He wanted the day to end quicker when they got into their first extreme ride, but he didn't really pay any attention to the time after that. When he realized it just now, the sky had changed color and the park was getting fewer and fewer visitors. Just like how he would always forget about the time when playing, he seemed to have forgotten about the time in here as well.
A sudden chill suddenly made contact with his forehead, making him sit up in surprise, "Yikes! That's cold!"
"You aren't planning on sleeping here while I wander around here alone, are you?" Haqua asked in annoyance before she handed him a canned juice, "Here, I bought us some juice."
"Thanks," Keima simply replied as Haqua joined him on the bench.
"I can believe it's already this late," Haqua commented as she looked up at the sky, "I've never been into this kind of place before."
"Sure," Keima took a sip of his juice before giving her his short reply.
"H-Hey, Katsuragi…" Haqua spoke up nervously, "W-What do you think of today?"
"Okay, I guess," he replied in a monotone voice, which the former devil wasn't happy with.
"Is it really annoying for you to be with me?" Haqua was looking at him with a mad blush on her face, but Keima's expression hardly changed.
"It's not that bad," Keima had finished his juice as he put the empty can on the small space between them, "At least I can talk something that makes sense with you rather than when I'm talking with Elsie."
Keima could hear Haqua's sigh as he tried turning his attention from the conversation, "It's just Elsie being herself and her cheerfulness is what making the atmosphere surrounding her always so calming."
"She's a real klutz who had destroyed too many things she wasn't supposed to destroy."
"She may be a klutz, but she works harder than any of us in the same class," Haqua leaned back as she continued staring at the sky, "Even I have to admit that she's come a long way that she may already have surpassed me…"
"Coming from you, it's a real surprise. I don't hear you praise others that often."
"I'm saying the truth!" the former devil replied in annoyance, "You're treating Elsie like she's bound to be always a failure when she's already promoted as a district chief!"
"Sorry, I know that you're a good person inside. I know that you can praise others just fine, but you're having a hard time speaking it out loud."
The blush came back to her face, "O-Of course! Being a devil of New Hell doesn't mean that we'll always be mean and evil!"
"That's good to hear. I'm glad to have this kind of conversation here with you. Talking like this makes me feel that I'm getting to know you better and make us feel a lot closer."
"W-What are you saying, you idiot?!" her heartbeat was getting faster and faster as she turned away to try and hide her embarrassment, "But still… I'm still happy to hear that's how you feel about us…"
"Thanks. Now should we head for the cafeteria to eat?"
"O-Okay, but can I…" as Haqua was reaching of Keima's hand, a spark of realization hit her when she heard the familiar beeping sound coming from beside her. She took a peek and saw the familiar console in his hands, though a different one from the console she had thrown away earlier that day, "Katsuragi."
The gamer responded to her call and turned to the side as Haqua was lowering her head, "Oh, sorry. This game needs me to speak some of the dialogues with the correct tones to get some extra love points. What did you say just now?"
Haqua stood up quietly and walked in front of the confused gamer before she threw her own can to the spot beside him, "That was just you playing again?"
"Yes, it's a little bit annoying but it's worth it," Keima noticed the shadow above him as he looked up only to have Haqua angrily lift him by the collar, "W-Wait, what are you doing with me?"
"You really don't understand?" Haqua replied in a whisper before she looked up at him angrily, "Katsuragi, you really are an insensitive, pervert, idiotic man!"
"W-What…" Keima spoke up before he was roughly thrown back to the bench, knocking him to the other side of the bench, "Ow…"
"I'm leaving!" with another angry look at him, Haqua stomped away from the struggling gamer before she came to a stop once she felt that she was far enough from him.
She was upset that her first date with him had to be ruined by his usual gaming habit, but she was also feeling a bit happy. She never knew his reason accepting Yukie's offer to take Haqua on a date, but she was glad that he did. She put a hand on her still rapidly beating heart and smiled as she let the wind blew her long hair away while looking at the sky.
That was her first, but it was surely not her last. She was there in the human world to stay for good, so that was just a chance flying away. She still had plenty of time and plenty of chances to take and she had to do was plan another approach. They were nobody now, but sooner or later she would slowly change that by trying to turn his attention to her instead of his games. By the time he let go of his games, she would have an even bigger chance to steal his heart just like how he had stolen hers.
Finally, the story is finished and... I don't think I have anything else to rant here. All the emo sessions are already in the final chapter of Elsie's side and I don't think there's anything else to add... But in all seriousness, I do feel kinda sad to see these 8-year old stories finally come to an end after the really long hiatus and I really don't have any ideas to make them longer than this. The difference of my writing style then and now will most likely be evident in this story because I've done most of Elsie's side back then while Haqua's side merely had like 3-4 chapters done.
Once again, thanks for the loyalty to these stories for that many long years of wait. I really appreciate all the reviews, favorites, and alerts in both stories and of course, the suggestions and inputs I get from you guys. Thank you all so much!
