Chapter 10

Undertaker had dropped me off at the Earl's town manor. The lights were on, but there wasn't really any activity going on. We were a bit early, so I wrote it off.

As agreed upon beforehand, my lovable companion would return for me at the end of the evening, but remain nearby in case I wanted to leave early. Before he left, Undertaker kissed my hand and wished me a fun party.

I looked down at myself. I didn't want to wear anything too fancy, so I wore my funeral gown. It looked good on me and easily told what I did. I still hoped I didn't look too out of place.

I straightened my skirt as I approached the heavy oak door. The knocker loomed over my head. It was very much in Ciel's style. Taking a breath, I knocked. And again. The noise from the door was impressive. I raised my hand again, but before I caught hold of the large, brass knocker, the door swung open and my hand landed in another's.

I looked at the hand, gloved in white and poised as if it knew I would be there. My gaze slid up the well tailored jacket sleeve, to the smirking mouth of Sebastian. "A pleasure to see you again, Miss, and so wonderful you could make it to tonight's event. You are early though, so I am afraid, I must shortly return to finish the preparations for my master." He bowed, continuing to hold my hand, and ushered me inside. I was relieved of my travel shawl in the entry hall and guided into the large city estate.

It seemed much darker inside than I had viewed from the windows, then again, this was a different part of the house. This was another place was wasn't show in great detail in the manga, so I was trusting Sebastian as he lead me to one of the drawing rooms. I recognized the furniture around me and went to look at some of the trinkets on the shelves.

"You put a lot of care into this place. Though I assume all the things here were retrieved… naturally." I heard a small chuckle catch in his throat.

"Yes. The young master was quite insistent that all details pertaining to him were as humanly ostensible as possible." I looked briefly at the shelves again, they were spotless, and looking back, I found Sebastian was gone.

A hand sped past my head and touched the shelf in front of me. "Though," the breath on my ear was hot, "it is such a pain to be normal. I enjoy when I don't need to hold the facade so tightly." I turned to face the man behind me, but he was already across the room. "Tea?" I shook my head 'no.' He stood there, his burning gaze fixed on my. "The master disapproves of my doing things that might identify me in front of humans who could live to figure it out. But since you are already privy to such information, I figured there wouldn't be the same caution." He smiled at me. I suspected that he enjoyed being able to show off just as much, if not more than Undertaker did. Freedom can be quite potent to those who mask themselves constantly. And it doesn't help the situation when the one given freedom has a brilliant and devious mind, and an incredibly able body to do whatever he wishes. I thought about this with a bit of concern. Maybe I was getting a bit too comfortable with the strange and fantastical being and situations I was thrown in. Anyone else in their right minds would have gone completely bonkers by now. But there is something about me that makes things like this seem believable, even to those I am close to.

I shook myself from my thoughts. "Don't you have to get back to Ciel?" I looked around and the room seemed to dim even more.

Sebastian bowed his head, hair falling in his face some, the candle flames around him rose slightly. "I must admit," he looked up, his eyes glowing intensely, "there is no real even tonight. At least," he smirked, "not for any others."

I could feel his stare on me as I looked down at my hands. He was assessing my reaction. Running, I thought, would only make the chase more exciting for him. And I couldn't give in to him, because I didn't even know what he wanted. I was nervous for the safety of my soul.

"What was your plan then? I never pegged you as the kind to take directly when there was some enjoyment in the process. Or some need to be achieved."

The lights in the room went out with a gust of wind. The glow of Sebastian's eyes loomed closer in the darkness and he spoke. "Of course, you seem to know me well. You don't even seem expressly surprised by my deception. Yet you came, and that is enough to tell me my efforts were not for naught."

"What do you even want? If its fear, there is plenty of it, but I'm not irrational."I kept my eyes locked with Sebastian's. But still, the voice behind my ear caused my spine to tingle.

"You are fascinating. Most likely the reason the Undertaker is interested in a pretty thing like you. His tastes are towards the unusual and disturbing, so your situation must be what draws him to you." I closed my eyes.

"I told you, you won't get any information from me."

"Your loyalty is respectable. Though I fail to understand your interest in the lunatic."

"Obviously," I scoffed.

Light flooded my vision. Sebastian was across the room. The room, as it seemed, had changed from the town manor lounge, to a large darkly themed ballroom. It fit Sebastian's perfectly, I thought, looking at the details. But my eyes finally settled on the demon himself. Gone was the butler's attire. Instead, was a flowing, black pinstripe tail-suit. His hands were bare, the black nails and red mark visible, with short gloves in hand. His hair was tied back in a red ribbon.

"Allow me to seduce you." I blinked and he moved again. "Tell me of your time as we dance among the languid music." A hand lightly touched my right arm and Sebastian sounded a bit more desperate. "Help me figure out why I can't stop thinking about you."

His touch was warm and strong. And shortly after the words left his lips, a violin's voice was heard followed by a cello's. The song was beautiful. As it continued, Sebastian's hand moved to take my own. His other took my waist. He lightly swayed behind me, catching his caught in the music, I moved with him.

Sebastian guided me expertly through the dance. At the end, he spun me around to face him. He looked me in the eyes, hovering close to my face. "Something faster, perhaps?" He smiled devilishly. His grip on me tightened and we started again to dance. I stumbled over myself quite a bit to keep up with him. But Sebastian made sure I didn't injure myself.

The demon had set up two chairs after the dance. When I had caught my breath some, Sebastian asked me jovially if there was much dancing when I came from.

"Oh, plenty." I said, "Its just not the same kind of dancing. Less steps, turns, partnering and flowing movement; more stationary gyrating, and grinding." The puzzled disgust on Sebastian's face was funny, but I continued. "I mean, that's just kind of the most popular kind right now, its mostly at clubs and dance events with the younger generations. You just don't see too much of," I made a circling motion with my finger, "this, outside of classical dance." I couldn't tell if that helped my case.

"You should give a demonstrate this modern dancing." Sebastian suggested.

"To be honest, I'm terrible at it I'm more partial to swing dancing. That was really popular in the 40's. Its a partner dance with lots of energy in it. There is jumping, shaking, swinging, lifting, dips. Its not specific either; you just feel the music and follow your partner."

"Sounds entertaining." he put a hand to his chin; trying to imagine such a dance, possibly.

"Oh, yes. Too bad the music that this was usually danced to hasn't been invented yet. And I don't have my partner." I looked at him with a smile. "I used to dance with a dancer friend of mine, she was small and light so I would lead her. We took some classes about it together. It was so much fun." I started fiddling with my skirt, feeling a tad homesick.

"Well, you ARE a time traveler. Just go home and be with your companions."

"Don't be a smart-ass and ruin this. I know just as much as anyone else here does." I glared at him, not even caring if my tone was a tad hostile. "There isn't much for me there anyways. I mean, I used to have a lot of good times, but in my time, people drift out of your life easily and it can be hard to keep them in it. There, I'm even more lost." I looked at him again, not knowing why I wanted to tell him all these things, but it didn't seem to matter. "I always loved this age, not quite rustic, still making technology advances, still have etiquette for the most part, and the fashion is absolutely lovely. And to top it off I'm in one of my favorite stories. I know all about this place, I just feel really safe."

"It has been a long time since someone said they felt safe with me." Sebastian looked at his hands. I thought about all the bloodshed they had caused. Shaking his head, he carried on the conversation. "I guess with your extensive knowledge and foresight in our lives, you have your own reasons for admiring who you do."

"Well, I think its actually what little I know about him. You see the main story follows you and Ciel almost exclusively. It starts just before the Jack the Ripper case, having short flashbacks about your life after and around the time of the contract. Undertaker makes few appearances in your adventures, as he isn't a great friend of the count's, but leaves a lasting impression from the very beginning and gives you more questions than answers as the story progresses. But his personality is clear throughout." I took a breath and looked up at Sebastian. He seemed put out. "You also have your mystery about you, though." He perked at the subject change."Your true form and name are unknown. The only examples of your power seen are your strength, speed, fighting skills, intelligence, intimidation, and exceptional flirtation skills. I assume you set that one aside from your strategy for now. But either way, those skills just make you seem like a gifted super-spy." Sebastian smiled. "Obviously, the fanbase knew you were holding off because Ciel told you to and were probably off doing demon-y things when we couldn't see it." He gave a small laugh. "And as I mentioned, your soft spots for cats came up a few times. I think that's adorable. You wouldn't believe the stories girls come up with about you and neko-girls."

"Neko?" I smiled.

"Part cat. Sometimes they're demons, other times mutants or genetic experiments. But they usually have cat ears at least."

Sebastian's smile dropped. "Well cat demons don't exist and I'm not sure I would find a human with cat parts attractive."

"I figured as much, but it's still funny to imagine you going gaga over a person the way you do felines." I leaned back in my chair. "I mean, that is kinda what you're doing with me."

Sebastian's eyes flew open. In a smooth motion he stood and walked up to me. "It would be best not to try my generosity. I have been more than kind with you."

"I understand," I said, standing and smoothing my skirt, "and I know this conversation isn't over. But, I do believe it is time for me to leave. I enjoyed this evening. I know you won't do it, but I'm still asking you to leave me alone; at least this way. I'm happy, and it's helping me figure things out."

Sebastian folded his hands in thought. "Very well, since leaving you for now seems the best way to win your favor. You should know, I know what you desire and I can give that to you. I smell the fire in your blood and hear the pounding of your heart pick p when you are near me." The demon grabbed my hand with his and brought it to his cheek, holding it there, his mark visible. "I can be all you need and more." His eyes glowed brighter for a second.

Sebastian's face was warm and smooth; not even a trace of stubble. His half-lidded eyes looked down on me, drawing me closer. And before I knew what I was doing, our lips came together. We kissed, and it was full of heat and precision. Obviously, the best of centuries of practice. After a moment, I drew a breath and pushed him away. I couldn't say I was extremely shocked at myself, I mean he is a sexy demon stud, but I was a bit mad at myself for betraying my love. Sebastian, however, was smiling.

"You can't deny you are drawn to me."

"Fuck you!" I huffed, "You know about greed, lust, revenge; the sins of man. You want to know why I like the Undertaker more than you? He understands the importance of simple pleasure. Laughter is key to him, love and kindness and friendship; he know humanity better than you ever could. He doesn't even need to bribe me for anything. Now let me go home!"

Sebastian again took my arm, "Very well." We walked to the ballroom's door and he opened it. We were on the front porch of the town manor. Undertaker was waiting at the coach and smiled when he saw me. Sebastian gave me my shawl and I left him without saying anything.

I hugged undertaker hard when I got to him. "Did you have a good time~?" he said into my ear.

"It sure was something." I said as he lifted me inside.
