It was quiet as the four friends looked at each other, none of them knowing exactly what to say. A sudden movement from Sirius, who was now giving James the biggest bear hug Lily had ever seen, broke this. The two men stayed in an embrace for a length of time that could only be considered normal by marauder standards. The two men looked over at their third friend with mischievous looks, causing Remus to slowly back away. Then, in the blink of an eye, the other two had rushed him and all three were now rolling around on the floor laughing. Lily rolled her eyes at her three man-children, an action which was not missed by Sirius.
He looked up at her from the floor and beckoned towards the floor. She shook her head, "There's no way I'm joining you three," she told him.
Sirius just shrugged and jumped up, grabbing her and spinning her around before she could say another word. "Your just as I remember Tiger Lily."
Lily glared at him when he put her down, "I told you not to call me that," she said.
He laughed, "Come on, Tiger. Don't I at least get a one time your-back-from-the-dead free pass?"
She tried to answer him with a straight face, somewhat succeeding. "Absolutely not…Scruffy."
"Hey!" he said. "I'll have you know that I am a purebred."
James laughed and punched his best friend in the arm, "Pureblood maybe," he said. "But definitely not purebred, Padfoot."
This caused the two of them to start going at them again, which allowed Remus to finally get up off the floor and embrace Lily. "It's good to see you again Lily," he told her.
"You two Remus," she replied, looking him over. She noticed that he looked a bit pale, and that his robes were a little worse for wear, but other than that he looked healthy. "Although to me it hasn't even been a day since I've last seen you."
He gave her a sad smile; "It's been a long fourteen years without you guys."
James and Sirius were both up off the floor by this point, so he gave Remus a pat on the shoulder. "Always the emotional one—eh Moony?" he said, attempting to lighten the mood.
Remus smirked and quickly used the element of surprise to knock him down. "Says the sap who cried on his wedding day."
James looked shocked, "We swore that was a marauder secret." He said, looking over at his wife who was now giggling.
Remus smirked, "Remember marauder rule number 16?"
James went pale, and Lily turned to Sirius, who was now laughing, questioningly.
Remus continued in an important sounding voice when it didn't look like James would answer. "If Prongs ever manages to snag the beautiful and talented Lily Marie Evans, she will henceforth be known as an honorary marauder."
James gave him a light-hearted punch, "Shut up Moony!" he said, getting up and walking over to his wife and giving her a kiss.
Sirius pretended to gag and pulled Remus towards the sitting room, "We're waiting in here." He told the two lovebirds. "No need to see you guys eye-shag again."
Lily turned bright red and James tried very hard not to laugh, causing his nose to scrunch up from the effort. "SIRIUS!" she shouted, following them into the room.
Everyone was now laughing as they sat down, but managed to stop by the time Kreacher brought them four glasses of fire whisky. They talked for a few more minutes jokingly before they started to get serious.
"So what happened?" James finally asked his friends.
They both paled, neither of them wanting to relive that night. "I-I went to check on Peter, which is when I realized that he was the traitor. There was no sign of a struggle or anything, so I went to your house." He shuddered, and edited part of his tale, "I gave Hagrid my motorbike a-afterwards, and then I went to confront Peter. And, well you know what happened after that."
James looked at his friend; he could still see a slight haunted look in his eyes that never existed. It was just a reminder of what a number Azkaban did on him. He then looked over at Moony, and apology on his lips, "Moony, I'm so sorry."
Remus shook his head, "There's nothing to be worried about Prongs."
"But we always suspected you"
"And I would have done the same thing. It's done now, and you have nothing to be sorry for. If anything I'm sorry I wasn't there. When I was it was already too late."
Lily shook her head, "They're nothing you could have done. Harry needed to be with either Sirius or Petunia. "
Sirius winced at the names Harry and Petunia, but Lily didn't notice. James however did, and filed it away to ask his friend about later. "What happened next?"
"I escaped just over two years ago. I used my animagus, and spent the year trying to catch Peter at Hogwarts. He ended up escaping and I've been here ever since." Sirius finished, shrugging his shoulders.
"HE WAS AT HOGWARTS?" Lily shouted.
Both men shrugged, and Remus added, "That's Harry's story to tell."
Lily groaned, "Why do I get the feeling that it's going to be interesting story?"
Sirius laughed, "That's nothing. Wait until you hear about the dragon."
"PADFOOT!" Remus exclaimed. Both Lily and James stared at them with frozen faces of shock—James in awe and Lily in fear.
The four friends sat and talked for a while longer about people and things they had missed in the last fourteen years before saying their goodbyes. James called Anna who gladly returned them straight to their room at Hogwarts, and who promised to take them back whenever they pleased. Both of them collapsed onto the bed and fell into deep sleep—physically and emotionally drained from the day.
I hope you liked the chapter! I know it's a little shorter than I said, but I moved part of it into the next chapter to improve the flow. The next one is much longer, I promise this time! Please remember to read and review, as they really encourage me. Do you think we could make it to 150 reviews by the next chapter? (I'm planning to upload it tomorrow!) Also, thanks to everyone who as reviewed, favourited or followed this story. It means the world to me.
HINT: Guess who they finally meet next chapter?
Until next time…
