Chapter 11: Death of a Friend
One Year Later…
"Sarutobi, here." Zero said as he threw a scroll towards Sarutobi, who caught it with his right hand.
"That's the mission report. I'll see you later." Zero said as he disappeared in a shunshin, leaving Sarutobi to smile as he read through the report of Zero's mission.
Zero appeared on the top of the Hokage's Monument as he watched the clear sky and the calm breeze that came with it.
After he left Kushina one year ago on that night, and used a Memory Erasing Seal on her to erase the memory she had when she had founded his identity. It made him guilty to use the jutsu on his wife, but he knew he had to keep his identity a secret for now. He doesn't want the people to find out about him, Izayoi Sakamaki , the Rokudaime Hokage is still alive in this world.
A few days went by, and he decided to visit Sarutobi and asked him on Kushina's mission that she was supposed to complete. Sarutobi was confused on why he asked, but he answered it as he wanted to lessen the burden of Kushina's work, while she took care of the kids. After a while, Sarutobi gave him the missions, sympathizing with Kushina on taking care of the kids as he let Zero do her missions for her.
After a few months, Kushina was ready to take on missions at the moment, but she found out that there were no missions for her to complete, raising the question on who completed it? She then talked to Sarutobi and explained the cause of her confusion.
Sarutobi in response said that they were done by a friend of hers, which he promised to Zero that he kept this, a secret. Then, Kushina asked about the reward money and Sarutobi answered that all of the money that the individual got for completing her mission would all be sent to her bank account, which completely baffled her. She then asked on who was this friend of hers? In response, Sarutobi said that the person in question wanted to help her take care of the kids by doing her missions for her.
Excepting the fact that she has her whole schedule with taking care of Naruto, Fu and Yugito. She felt grateful the person help her, even though she wanted to complete the missions by herself. But all in all, she was grateful. She asked Sarutobi to say 'Thank you' to the person, which Sarutobi promises to send her message to him.
When he heard the thankful message from Sarutobi, he told him to reply to her message, which Sarutobi would relay the message to her, saying 'that he was happy to be of help to her'.
But after all of this, he knew that the time will come when he would return to his lovely wife Kushina and his eight year old son, Naruto.
"Soon…" Zero mutters as he lay down on the ground watching the clear sky with clouds passing through slowly.
"Hey, what are you doing here, Zero?" A voice called as Zero look beside him, seeing Shisui standing beside him.
"Looking at the clouds, what else?" Zero asked as Shisui laughed.
A year ago, Zero met Shisui on one of his missions, driving some Kirigakure's ninjas away from the Konohagakure borders. They bonded quite well, and after some time later, Itachi decided to join them as he wanted to know Zero too, which surprises Shisui.
Zero didn't tell a lot about him, which was understood by Itachi as he asked Sarutobi about Zero. But Sarutobi told him that it was personal and it was regarding his past, which Itachi understand.
But in that time, Zero knew a lot about Itachi and Shisui, the two were bestfriends since they were little, forming a brother like-bond. He was happy to know that Itachi had a little brother that was bugging him to teach him a few jutsus, which Zero gave him some advices to help his little brother. He advised that he teach Sasuke a little than just made him do it himself, which Itachi understood and use that advice to help Sasuke.
After a while, Zero was told by Itachi that he was happy to spend some time with his brother while Zero and Shisui took care some of Itachi's missions for him, so that he could spend more time with Sasuke. Itachi was grateful that they did as he treated them to some meat, which Zero and Shisui were thankful for.
But after time, Itachi began to act quite oddly, which Shisui was instructed by the Konoha Military Police Force to monitor Itachi because the younger Uchiha's position in Anbu was instrumental to the Uchiha's future status in Konoha. Shisui told Zero about this, which caused Zero to also help him monitor and investigate about the strange behaviour of Itachi.
Despite this, Shisui in reality sympathised with Itachi, not wanting the Uchiha to go to war with the village. As the Uchiha continued to grow angrier and more violent from the distrust of the village due to the suspicion of their involvement in the Nine-Tails' Attack on Konoha, Shisui approached Sarutobi revealing the truth to the Third Hokage.
Trusting Shisui, seeing as he is Kagami Uchiha's descendant, Hiruzen allowed the Uchiha to spy on his clan for the village. Shisui was perplexed that the clan would not deter from the coup d'état that they were planning and soon became greatly concerned with the consequences that would follow their actions.
On the other hand, Zero kept a close eye on Danzo Shimura, feeling that something will be quite wrong in Shisui's mission to use Kotoamatsukami on Fugaku Uchiha to subtly end the coup d'etat plan.
"Are you ready?" Zero asked as he stand up from his position and look at Shisui, who look down at his clenched fist.
"Yes." Shisui answered as he look up at his bestfriend with determine eyes.
"Then, let's go. We can't let anyone know this." Zero said as Shisui nodded, and immediately the two shinobi disappeared in a shunshin.
In a forest nearby the Uchiha District
"Zero." Shisui called out as Zero looked at him, standing on a branch across from him.
"I've got to meet with Danzo." Shisui said as Zero narrowed his eyes under his mask, knowing this would be happen.
"Are you going to go? Because I know this is a trap set up by Danzo." Zero stated to Shisui.
"I know. That's why I've decided not to go. We have a bigger crisis than some meeting with the elder, right?" Shisui asked with a smile, as Zero sighed inside his mask, knowing that its time to reveal to him.
"Shisui." Zero said catching the attention of Shisui as he look at him confusedly.
"I have something to tell you." Zero said as Shisui raised his eyebrow at him.
"What is it?" Shisui asked.
"Do you know Izayoi Sakamaki, the Rokudaime Hokage?" Zero asked as Shisui nodded but still he looked confusedly on this entire conversation.
Zero then grabbed his mask and pulled it aside to the side of his head, allowing Shisui to see his face for the first time.
"W-Wha-?" Shisui exclaimed in pure shock, seeing Zero's face in front of him.
"If this is the last time that we met. I have to say that you have done a great service to the village." Zero said as he smiled and pulled back his mask to his face.
"It's a pleasure to serve Konohagakure, Rokudaime-sama." Shisui said bowing his head at Zero respectively.
"Don't bow. You've been my friend since I came to the village a year ago. It's been nice to spend time with you and Itachi all together." Zero said as Shisui smiled.
"Yeah, it is nice." Shisui replied.
"Anyway, we have to prevent the coup." Zero said as Shisui nodded and the two disappeared in a shunshin, heading towards where the Uchiha District was.
Zero and Shisui appeared on a tree branch as the two looked down at the streets of the Uchiha District, seeing some Uchiha children playing, while some are buying things from the local store.
"I have no regrets. I'll use my Sharingan and cast an illusion on everyone to stop the coup. This won't be hard, I should be done quickly. Itachi is probably going to be mad at me for doing this without him." Shisui thought as he look down and recalled Itachi and his little brother, Sasuke.
"But this will keep you together as a family. That's what's most important. For that, I'll do anything..." Shisui thought opening his eyes as Zero sensed someone following them from behind.
"Shisui!" Zero said as Shisui open his eyes, revealing a fully matured Sharingan in both eyes as he looked back and dodged several shuriken from hitting him.
"Root…" Zero thought as he pulled out a kunai from his hip pouch and defended himself against a kunai that was wielded by an Anbu.
"Shisui, get away!" Zero ordered as Shisui flip back, avoiding a slash from an Anbu and landed on a branch across from where the Anbu nearly attacked him.
Shisui heed Zero's order as he shunshin to appear behind Zero. Shisui then made hand signs while Zero made a single hand sign and the two positioned their last hand seal below their mouths.
"Katon: Gyoukaku no Jutsu!" Zero and Shisui said at the same time as the two blew fire out of their mouths, expelling two massive orbs of roaring flames at the two Root members, that was each in front of Zero and Shisui. After the massive orbs directly hit them, the two Root members died being burned by the flames as the two Root members fell to the ground while their bodies burns.
"Shisui, let's get out of here." Zero said as Shisui nodded and the two jump from one branch to another until they saw light in front of them and they landed onto the grassy ground. When they jump, they turn their bodies to the side automatically making their body faced the forest in front of them as five Root members jump out from the forest.
"Root… That means the person behind this is…" Shisui said as he look through every Root members and finally settled his gaze behind them.
"Very fast… Well reasoned, Shisui of the Body Flicker." A voice said as Zero and Shisui look at the person walking out from the darkness of the forest.
"Danzo…" Shisui said with hatred in his voice.
"All of you just stay back." Danzo said holding out his hand to the side, to not let the Root interfere. Danzo had black, shaggy hair, and his right eye was bandaged. Danzō has an x-shaped scar on his chin. He wore a white shirt, with a black or dark grey robe over the top of it covering from his feet, to just over his right shoulder.
What's the meaning of this? Why are you getting in my way?!" Shisui asked.
"Kotoamatsukami… a visual jutsu that creates false experiences. Such incredible power, but what a waste to use it merely to stop a coup. How unfortunate that an Uchiha doesn't know how to use the Sharingan." Danzo said as Shisui felt offended by his statement, gritting his teeth slightly at his rude comment.
"If you used your visual jutsu on the clan… as long as the Uchiha clan exists, it's highly doubtful that another coup can be avoided. And even if your plan worked, it is only for this instance. There is no guarantee that the same thing will not happen again. On the contrary, it probably will happen again. Sooner or later, Konohagakure will have to deal with the Uchiha. If so, by exterminating the Uchiha now,.. the future of the village will be secure, don't you think?" Danzo explained as he stare at Shisui.
"Danzo, you were plotting this all along…" Shisui stated.
"This is all for the sake of attaining true peace for Konoha." Danzo said staring up at the sky.
"That isn't true peace." Zero said as Danzo look at Zero.
"If you want to attain true peace, then why don't you fight with the Nine-Tails ten years ago? Are you a coward? I didn't hear anything about you fighting with the Nine-Tails, now did I? You don't want to attain true peace, you just want to this village all to yourself. You just want rule it as a Hokage. And for that you want to use Shisui's eyes to achieve it." Zero explained as Danzo narrowed his eyes at Zero.
"Well, aren't you a smart one?" Danzo asked.
"You're just jealous because you didn't get to be Hokage because of Sarutobi, right?" Zero asked as Danzo clench his fist tightly.
"Shisui…" Danzo said as he turns to Shisui. "Do not worry, I will make good use of your eyes." Danzo said as he charges at Shisui, but he was stopped by Zero charging towards him.
"Fuuton: Shinkuha Renpa!" Danzo said as he takes a deep breath and exhales several blades of wind at different angles towards Zero.
Zero made a single hand seal as he positioned his hand seal below his mouth, "Katon: Hosenka no Jutsu!" He said as he blew a big ball of fire that splits into several small balls of fire that turns instantly into big balls of fire.
When the fireballs hit the wind blades, they suck the wind out of the blades, making the fireballs bigger as it continued its way towards Danzo.
Danzo disappeared in a shunshin, completely avoiding the fireballs from hitting him. When he appeared a few feet where his previous position, he was surprised to find Zero in front of him with kunai encased in black lightning as Zero raised his kunai and slash downwards at Danzo, who slightly avoided the slash, but his left sleeve was hit and thus, making the sleeve burn off till his elbow.
After Danzo dodged, he quickly jumped back from Zero.
"Huh… huh…" Danzo said as he stared at Zero, who stood there with his kunai encased in black lightning in his right hand.
"How persistent you are. You've earned your reputation quite smoothly, Zero of Black Lightning." Danzo said breathing a couple of deep breaths.
"I suppose I must force an opportunity upon you." Danzo said raising his hand up to his shoulder, signalling the Root members that were hiding behind the bushes to appear. The Root members jumped to the sky and launch several kunai and shuriken upon Zero, who deflect every single kunai and shuriken that were thrown.
But Zero wasn't aware of Danzo appearing behind Shisui, who was ready to fight by gripping a kunai in his right hand.
Shisui felt a presence behind him as he looked back and a hand was thrust up to his right eye.
"Ugh…" Shisui groaned as he crouched down while holding his empty right eyehole.
"That's one down." Danzo said gripping the eye that he took from Shisui.
"I can't let this happen…" Shisui thought.
"Shisui!" Zero said as he run towards him and grabbed him by the waist, and suddenly disappeared in a shunshin, surprising Danzo.
"Danzo-sama!" A Root member said worrying for his master.
"Get him! He couldn't have gone too far, after all." Danzo ordered.
"Hai!" All the Root members said as they shunshin out of the place to head towards where Zero and Shisui were.
"Damn." Zero thought as he look behind him, seeing the Root members chasing them.
He pulled out a kunai with his right hand from his hip pouch as a Root member threw several kunais, which were deflected by Zero. Then another Root member threw several kunais at him, as Zero deflect it but he was surprised as poison gas ignited from one of the kunais.
Zero then swiftly put his mask on Shisui, not wanting him to inhale the poison gas. Inside the poison smoke, Zero flash out of sight and reappeared on a tree branch a few feet from the poison gas.
"That could have gone worse…" Zero said as he exhale his breath after enduring the poison gas from being inhaled by his lungs. He then took the mask from Shisui and put it on his face.
"Are you alright, Shisui?" Zero asked as he helped Shisui to stand up.
"I'm alright. Thanks, Zero." Shisui said as all of a sudden his vision gone fuzzy.
"I must have inhale some of that gas…" Shisui said as Zero grabbed him by the shoulder.
"Damn it…" Shisui stated.
"This is it, Shisui Uchiha." A Root member said as all the Root member trap the two in a circle.
The Root member then pulled out a kunai with an explosive tag on it as they prepared to throw it at Zero and Shisui.
"We…"Both Zero and Shisui said.
"Aim for the legs, not the face." The leader of the group said.
"Right!" One of the Root members said.
"Now!" The leader said as all the Root members threw their kunais at the two ninjas.
"We're not finished yet!" Both Zero and Shisui said at the same time, as both their eyes turns to a pinwheel of four spiraling curves.
Immediately, an explosion was admitted at the area of where the Root members launched their explosive tag kunais at Zero and Shisui.
The Root members all landed on the ground as smoke covered the two ninjas. Then, a burst of wind swept through the Root members as they all raised their arms in a cross, resisting to be blown away by the wind. After that, they saw a silhouette in the smoke, a large silhouette.
"You're in trouble, now…" A voice called as green chakra needles shot from the smoke killing three Root members, while two escaped.
The two Root members landed on the ground in front of their dead members as the two looked in front of them, as the smoke slowly resided.
When the smoke resided, it quickly reveals two large entities, shocking both of the Root members.
"Wh-What is that?" The leader asked in shock.
The first to be spotted was a green-colored Susanoo that was manifest by Shisui while the second to be spotted was a black-colored Susanoo, manifested by Zero.
After a while, Shisui breaths a couple of deep breath as he put his hands on his knee in exhaustion, causing his Susanoo to disappear, leaving him vulnerable and weak to attack.
"Captain!" One of the two Root members said as he and the captain threw two kunais at Shisui, but it was stopped by a big black daito. The black daito was held by Zero's Susanoo.
"You're gonna die." Zero informed them as another big black daito appeared in Susanoo's hand, making it wield two blades at once. Suddenly, Zero vanished into thin air surprising the two last remaining Root members as Zero appeared in front of them, to which the two Root members backed away from.
"You're dead." Zero said as his Susanoo thrust his two blades into the two remaining Root members, piercing their bodies with the blades and killing them instantly.
The Susanoo then pulled its blades out of the dead Root members as it slowly disappears, leaving Zero to stand in front of the two lifeless Root members that were laying on the ground, dead.
Zero then run towards Shisui as he picked him up by the waist and disappeared in a shunshin without a trace.
Zero then lay Shisui on a tree as he look behind him to see Itachi appearing from the trees.
I thought… that you were on a mission…?" Shisui asked with a smile seeing Itachi wearing a frown on his face.
"Something didn't feel right, so… I came back. But it seems that Zero has got it under control." Itachi said as he look at Zero who sat beside Shisui.
"And Zero, is that you're…?" Itachi asked as Shisui look at Zero too.
"Yeah, that's my Susanoo." Zero answered as Itachi wore a surprised look.
"Then, that means you're an Uchiha, right?" Shisui asked.
"Yeah. But I'm not driven by madness or rage like all the other Uchihas." Zero said as Shisui smiled.
"Glad to hear that." Shisui exclaimed.
"Sorry for the trouble." Itachi stated.
"The Root are involved. Unfortunately, it seems like there's no way to stop the Uchiha's coup. If internal warfare breaks out in Konoha, the neighbouring countries will invade… and war will begin." Shisui said standing in front of a cliff, while Zero and Itachi stood behind him.
Shisui then turn his head sideways to look at Itachi behind him, "I was planning on using Kotoamatsukami to stop the coup… But Danzo took my right eye. He didn't trust what I was trying to do… and he will resort to anything to protect Konohagakure. They're probably come after my left eye, too." Shisui said as he positioned his hand in front of his left eye.
"Before that happens, I want you to have it." Shisui said as Itachi saw that he rip out his left eye.
"Shisui…" Itachi thought.
"You're really the only friend I can trust, besides Zero. Even he is my friend, we've known each other since we're kids. Protect the village, and the Uchiha name as well." Shisui said handing him his left eye as Itachi took it with his left hand.
"But I…" Itachi was interrupted by Shisui.
"And… That isn't the only thing that I need to give you. I'm going to give you a new power, too. The Mangekyo Sharingan." Shisui said as Itachi' eyes widen.
"Shisui… You can't!" Itachi said.
"I'm not going to last long anyway. Take it as a gift… My dying wish." Shisui said as Itachi frowned.
"What's with that look of yours? Even like this, I can still see your face easily, you know. " Shisui said with a smile, as he put his right hand on Itachi's left shoulder.
"A worried expression just doesn't look good on you. You must always remain calm, my friend. That's what Itachi Uchiha is. I'm positive you can do this. So don't worry. It'll be fine." Shisui said smiling at Itachi.
Itachi look down, "I will carry your will for the Uchiha…" Itachi stated.
"From now on… You may be forced to walk down a long, dark path. One that's filled with pain and suffering. I have to apologize… That I can't be with you through it all. Still, I hope you don't falter form your path. And keep moving forward as a Konoha ninja. I believe in you." Shisui said as Itachi gritted his teeth.
"And for the last gift to my other friend…" Shisui said as he turn his head to look at Zero.
"Even if we know in a year, we have been such good friends in that year. And I'm happy to say that you two are my bestfriends." Shisui said to both Zero and Itachi.
"Zero," Shisui said as Zero look at him.
"Come here." Shisui said as Zero come closer to Shisui.
Shisui then extend his hand towards Izayoi's head, to which he pulled aside his mask slightly for Shisui's hand to touch his forehead. Itachi did notice the slight movement of the mask, because he was focused on Shisui and Zero. But he didn't want to know what's under the mask because he knows it's personal to Zero.
"I'll give you all my memory that I know about Sharingan. As a fellow member of the Uchiha, I can only do this much to you." Shisui said as he concentrated all his memories to Zero, who was hit with memories of Shisui's knowledge of the Sharingan.
After Shisui pulled back his hand, he pulled out his tanto from his sheath and swiftly cut his finger, surprising Itachi and Zero.
"Here." Shisui said offering his blood as Zero promptly pulled out a small scroll, and unfurled it. He performed a handseal, as a small jar appeared from the small scroll. He put the scroll back into his hip pouch as he open the lid to the jar and put the small jar under Shisui's index finger. When the jar was full with Shisui's blood, he closed the jar by putting on the lid.
"In my knowledge of the Sharingan, even if I didn't offer my eyes to you for the Eien no Mangekyo Sharingan. I'll give you my blood that contains the DNA of my Mangekyo Sharingan. I hope you can achieve the third and final stage of the Sharingan." Shisui said as he extend his hand out to Zero.
"It was nice to meet you, Zero." Shisui said as Zero shook hands with Shisui.
"Me too, Shisui." Zero said as Shisui smiled.
After they shake hands, Shisui look at Itachi again.
"Itachi, that's why I'm able to ask you to carry my will… And the Mangekyo." Shisui said to Itachi, who look at him in sadness.
Shisui then turns around as he faced the cliff in front of him, "Whew… Thank you… For everything." Shisui slowly stated as the sunset sets and night appears to cover the sky.
"I guess this is the end of the road for me. But this will pave a new way for you… And give you new power. Well, Itachi… Now, the time has come… Make a new way for yourself with your own hands. You can do it… I know you can…" Shisui said as Itachi recalled Shisui's time with him.
"Zero…" Shisui called one last time, as Zero caught a tanto from Shisui.
"Keep it and use it if you can." Shisui exclaimed with a smile as Zero gripped the handle of the tanto tightly.

A leaf could be seen floating through the sky and then it falls from the skies, as it slowly sinks to the bottom of the river.
Suddenly, Itachi's eyes evolved from the three-tomoe Sharingan to a three spiraling curves around the pupil.
"Rest in peace, Shisui." Itachi said in honor of Shisui's death.
Then, Itachi disappeared in a shunshin as Zero look at the spot from where he left.
"He must have gone to kill the whole Uchiha clan!" Zero thought as he grip Shisui's tanto and raced towards the Uchiha District.
He jumped from a branch to another branch as he rushed towards the soon to-be massacre of the Uchiha Clan. Zero grip Shisui's tanto tightly as he sped his way towards the Uchiha District.
"I can't be too late! I can't let him kill all of the Uchiha Clan members!" Zero thought as he pumped chakra into his feet as he flash out of sight in a black flash.
That's the end of the new chapter. And that's a sad ending for Shisui Uchiha... I mean he had the most powerful genjutsu in his arsenal. Anyway, I hope you like it, or love it.
