Author's Note:
What happened when Joan and Adam got home from her parents house.

Rated R

Genre:
Well, I thought this was going to be more pure, unadulterated smut. And that's definitely in here. So the usual mature audiences only warning applies. But this goes a little beyond my original design into a nicely romantic vignette.

They almost ran up the stairs to Joan's apartment. Her hands were shaking, so strong was her desire. She fumbled with her keys and dropped them. Adam bent to retrieve them for her at the same time she did and they bumped heads.

He grabbed the keys and they dissolved into laughter, holding their heads as they rose. "Sorry," he smiled as he reached for her elbow to makes sure she was steady. He handed her keychain back to her. "Guess we should slow down a little."

"Yeah," she said, taking a breath as she put the key in the lock and opened her door. "Only one problem with that. I don't think I can." She pulled him into the apartment by the lapels of his jacket and pushed the door closed with her foot. Then she leaned against the door and pulled him to her.

They fell into a heated kiss, finally able to address the undercurrent of electricity that had been flaring between them all night.

She reached inside his jacket and pushed it off his shoulders. He gave up his desperate hold on her hips long enough to let it drop away to the floor. She untucked his shirt and slid her hands up over his chest. He loved when she did that. He reflexively pulled at her, trying to get closer, closer than it was humanly possible to get.

She pulled back enough to reach for his belt buckle. He couldn't believe it. Did she want him...? He had to ask, "Right here?"

"Right now," she answered, kissing him deeply.

She was driving him mad. The belt was unbuckled and she was working on his fly before he knew what was happening. Once he figured it out, he took copious amounts of her beautiful round bottom in his hands and squeezed her tight against him. He sighed into her mouth when she reacted by wrapping a leg around him.

She moaned back into him as he began to lift her skirt up over her thighs and then her hips. She reached in and released him from his slacks and boxers and her head swam when she found him raring to go.

He broke from her lips when he felt her hands on him. "Wait Jane," he gasped thickly, "we need a condom."

She laughed and sighed against him, "At the rate we're going, we should buy stock in the Trojan company."

He laughed too and pressed his forehead to hers, trying to catch his breath.

Joan kissed him quickly and bent over to pick up her purse on the floor beside her where she'd dropped it when they entered. She reached inside, fished around a little and came up with a condom. "Just in case of emergency," she said when she saw the surprise on his face.

She handed it to him and watched hungrily as he put it on. He lifted her up, pushed her panties to the side and lowered her down onto him. She gasped and held onto his shoulders as he turned and took her to the back of the couch. He backed her up onto it and rocked her there, with long, slow motions. He caressed her breasts under blouse and bra and kissed her voraciously. Her legs wrapped around him and her hands went into his hair.

God, he felt so good. It was like he always knew exactly what she needed or wanted. And right now, it was exactly this lovingly intense pace he was setting. She could tell he was holding back, concerned first and foremost with taking care of her. It made her ache when he did that, in her heart and elsewhere. He was so tenderly ardent it just melted her at her core.

She felt herself tighten and quicken and he matched her. They moved together like they were made to do so. Friction and passion and things without names finally took over. She succumbed rather explosively and he followed immediately, grateful to God once again for the blessing of following.

They rolled over the back of the couch and collapsed half on top of each other. They settled in side by side. He took her hand and kissed her fingers. She leaned on his arm and smiled at the sweet sensation of his lips touching each fingertip so reverently. "I never knew it would be like this," she whispered.

"Like what?"

"Like I can't keep my hands off you. Like I want you all the time," she said.

"Welcome to my world," he smiled at her sweetly, suggestively.

"So what are we going to do about it?" she asked.

"I think we're doing just fine."

He kissed the palm of her hand that he still held and she sighed against him. "I don't want you to go home."

"Good. I don't want to go." Right then, he didn't care if he ever left her apartment again.

"So what do we do?"

"Well, I guess I stop by my house tomorrow morning before work and change clothes."

"That takes care of tomorrow. Then what?"

"I don't know. It's a terrible problem to have, though, isn't it?" he said with a delightfully ironic twinkle in his eye.

She smiled, almost embarrassed. "Yeah... So, what's next? Lunch-time quickies because we can't even wait till we get home?"

"I don't know," he said and smiled back at her. "Doesn't sound so bad to me."

"Me neither. That's what kind of scares me. I mean, how do we deal with this? How do we go about our normal lives when there's this... overwhelming attraction going on that barely gives us a moment's peace?"

"I don't know... What's normal?"

"At some point, I think we have to be grown-ups about it."

"OK. But we don't have to figure it out tonight, do we?"

"No... You know, I'm trying really hard not to over-think it. I mean, the last thing I want to do is jinx us," she said, looking into his baby browns.

"Me too," he replied softly.

"Why is it so scary to be so happy?"

He turned to her fully then and saw tears well in her eyes. "Jane, it's OK." He took her face in his hands and kissed her lips very softly, reassuringly. She laid her head against his chest and felt his heartbeat. "I think it's kinda normal to get scared when things are going great. Especially for us, after... everything."

"So I'm supposed to just get used to waiting for the other shoe to drop?"

"No... What do you think is going to happen?"

"I don't know. Nothing. It's stupid, but... We've both been through enough to know that anything can happen at any time."

"Yeah. That's true. But you know what I can promise you won't happen?"

She shook her head against him and wiped away that one stray tear that finally fell.

"I'll never stop loving you. You're the best thing in my life, you have been since we met. It doesn't matter what happens, OK, Jane? Because I'll always be yours."

She couldn't wipe the tears that came fast enough to keep up. Adam held her in his arms and felt a tear of his own dampen his cheek. He drew a long calming breath so that he could hang on, for her sake. He kissed the top of her head and drank in the fragrance of her herbal shampoo. He stroked the hair along her temple and eventually, she relaxed against his chest.

"Wanna go to bed? It's late," he finally whispered.

"OK," she sighed. They rose together, still holding onto each other. She went to turn off the light and he picked up his jacket and her purse and put them on a chair.

In her room, Joan sat on the bed and watched Adam undress, down to his boxers. She kicked off her shoes and rose to remove the rest of her clothes. He came to help, but only because she seemed suddenly very tired. He took off her blouse and laid it over the chair arm and she unbuttoned her skirt and slipped it down over her hips. Now, it was his turn to watch as she took everything else off too. She glanced at him and went into the bathroom.

He got his cell phone from his pants pocket and lay down atop the comforter to set its alarm. He heard her brushing her teeth and found it oddly comforting. She was all right, just tired. He placed his phone on the bedside table.

Soon, she returned, still wondrously naked. It was all he could do to stand up but he had needed a bathroom break too. He watched her slip under the covers beside him and he swallowed hard. "Um... be right back," he whispered when he could speak again.

He disappeared into the bathroom for a few minutes and Joan felt herself drift a little bit where she rested against the pillows. When he came back, he turned off all the lights but the bedside table and got into bed beside her.

"What time do we have to get up?" she asked as he snuggled in next to her.

"Seven. So... I set my alarm for six-thirty." He kissed her shoulder and turned off the last light.

"Mmmmmmmm... Perfect." She nestled into his embrace. "I love you," she sighed as she relaxed in the perfect peace of a night in his arms.

"I love you more."
