Chapter 10

Hey! Yes, I'm alive. I am horrible at updating consistently. Anyway, on with the story!

Alison's POV

I sat and looked at my parents expectantly. My mom opened her mouth to speak but seemed unable to find the words. She finally said, "I'm not quite sure how else to say this so I'm just going to come out with it. Mustardseed, you might want to hear this too. Girls, somehow the government has gotten hold of the information that your father is a Farie. We think that is why they showed up, demanding to see Puck. They won't stop until they find him. We are not safe, they will come after both of you too because you are his children."

"Wait, you mean the government is after all of us?"

"Yes," Puck answered. "But before we dwell on that we need to find out how those stinkers got ahold of that information."

"Actually, first I need to go to the store." My mom interrupted. She had been talking to Mustardseed. "I need to pick up some snacks for the girls."

Mom decided to take Emma and me with her. That's how I ended up walking down the aisle next to my mom with Emma trailing along behind.

"Do you girls want anything in particular?" Mom asked while grabbing a gallon of milk and putting it in the cart.

I opened my mouth to reply when my mom stiffened. I immediately knew something was wrong.

"Alison," she said urgently. She was interrupted by someone suddenly grabbing her arm. "Run!"

I grabbed Emma's arm and ran down the aisle. I snuck a glance back to see my mom punched the man in the nose. He stumbled back, holding his nose, but didn't stop coming.

"Where are we going?" Emma demanded.

"Back to the Golden Egg; we need to tell Dad."

"But what about Mom?"

"She'll be fine. You saw her take out those FBI guys." I turned and ran out the door. Then proceeded to run all the way to Central Park.

Sabrina's POV

I grabbed a gallon of milk when I tensed. Something was wrong. "Alison," but I was cut off by a man grabbing my arm. "Run!" I yelled at the girls. I turned towards the man who grabbed me and punched him in the nose. He stumbled backwards. I walked up to him, grabbed his shoulders and slammed him stomach into my knee. The man wheezed and stumbled back, holding his stomach. I dusted off my hands, feeling proud of myself, when three other men came up behind me. I turned and slammed my foot into the man on the left's windpipe. I brought my cupped hands over the middle ones ears, bursting his eardrums. He crumbled with a cry of agony. I faced the man on the right when the left man grabbed me and put a cloth over my mouth and nose. I elbowed him in the gut, but not before a got a big whiff of the sickly sweet cloth. The last thing I saw before I blacked out was a man who hadn't been there before standing over me; my sight was too blurry to see what he looked like.

Alison's POV

I burst into the Golden Egg, looking around for my dad. I found him in a backroom, setting up what looked like an elaborate booby-trap. "Umm, Dad, what are you doing?"

"Setting up a prank for your mother. I haven't done anything to her in a while and I don't want her thinking I've gone soft. There is no place for softness in a war!"

I rolled my eyes. For some reason my parents were in an ongoing prank war with each other. It was really funny to watch Dad set up a prank and Mom explode when a prank was successful.

"Well, about Mom, while we were at the store some guys attacked us. Mom told us to run."

Dad stopped what he was doing. "What? How long ago?"

I thought about it. "About half an hour ago." It was only a five minute walk to the store. A sense of dread kept over me. "She should have been back by now."

Sabrina's POV

I woke up in a bedroom. Ok, so at least I'm not in a dungeon. I surveyed my surroundings. It must have been a guest bedroom because there were no personalized touches in the room as far as I could tell. The walls were light blue. There was a small closet to the left side of the double bed on the wall with the door. The bed had a striped comforter of blue, white, and gray with matching pillows. All the stripes varied in sizes. On either side of the bed were small, white nightstands. And there was a matching dresser on the wall opposite the bed. On the right wall, a set of double doors led to a balcony that had a little table and two chairs on it.

I went to turn on the light on the nightstand only to find that I couldn't move my hands. I looked down to see a rope binding them together. There was also one lashed around my feet.

Think I told myself. How can I get out of this? I could try hopping to the door, but what would I find on the other side. And besides, I needed to be able to run. That left one option. Untie the ropes. I set to work.

Three hours later I had my hands free. You see all those movies where the protagonist unties a rope in thirty seconds. Let me tell you, it's not that easy. I rolled my wrists a few times to try and get circulation back before going on to my feet.

When I was all untied, a walked over to the door. Locked. I should have known I couldn't just walk out. I moved to grab a bobby pin out of my hair when I stopped to think. Do I really want to walk out there, right into the enemy, when I had an easier way to get out? No, I didn't.

I crossed the room to the doors of the balcony which were also locked. I picked the lock in under ten seconds, glad I hadn't lost my touch, and stepped outside. I was higher up than I expected, at least ten stories. There was a ledge on a window two stories down from which I could easily jump to the fire escape. But how could I get down there? The rope. I thought and ran to snatch the rope off the bed.

I tied it securely to the railing and climbed over it. I was just about to shimmy down when two pairs of rough hands grabbed me. How could I not have noticed the door opening? The men dragged me back into the room. Then I heard a voice that made me cease all struggling.

"I'm surprised you would actually try that, Sabrina."

I froze. I knew that voice, and it was a voice I had never hoped to hear again.

Dun Dun Dun! Who is it? Please give me your thoughts. I made this chapter longer than my others because they have been really short.
