Hey guys, back from my holiday now and have an update. Managed to get caught up with the new episode…Still not sure I'm liking where it is going. I could believe it and be ok with it if they didn't seem to be rushing it. If they had shown CJ and Georgie bonding over Elvis / his failed marriage and it was after his injury and they had been stuck in the jungle together before CJ declared his feeling for her I might believe it. But now she seems to be considering…Only holding back because he's married to Molly….These feelings they have for each other has seem to come from nowhere! I mainly don't like that they're making his character into a bit of jerk… (although considering joining 2 section as a medic myself) ! Hoping they explore the PTSD a bit more to explain his behaviour.
Before this series started, after Elvis death I was toying with an idea of how I would like to see CJ / Molly / Georgie dealing with it all but put it side to write this fic…But now I'm fighting with myself to finish this before starting a new story!
Anyway, on to this story. Hope you like it…Please review and thank you to everyone who has already!
A Different Mission.
There was so much going on right now that Molly hated. She hated she had to go to Cyprus. She hated she had to stay there for two weeks. She hated Smurf acting as if everything was fine… as if nothing had happened. She hated the rest of the section were acting that way too. She hated she had to hide how terrified she was about losing the first man she was pretty sure she loved before they even had a chance. She hated that Special Forces had joined them in Cyprus. She hated Elvis and his shitty mood…
She actually didn't hate Elvis that much…He was keeping her updated on the boss' condition. He had been in touch with Mr and Mrs James who was reporting back that although it was slow, the boss was making progress. Elvis was just as furious as she was about being there but Major Beck refused to allow him to fly home because they needed him around to help with the investigation into what had happened on the mission. The difference was he was allowed to show how he felt…she couldn't without people asking too many questions.
She was sat alone on the beach, watching the waves and listening to the laughter from the rest of her section when someone sat down beside her, startling her. She was expecting it to be Elvis since all the lads from Section 2 were currently playing Volleyball and she had spent a lot of time with him since leaving Afghanistan; mainly listening to him ranting and raving about being kept there. She was surprised to see it was Spanner instead.
"Jesus, do you Special Forces lot always have to sneak up on people?"
"Sorry, force of habit." He gave her a small smile.
"Everything all right, Mol?"
She looked up to see an out of breath Smurf stood over them. "Yeah…Why wouldn't it be?"
"Just checking…" Smurf shrugged. "Making sure no one is bothering you."
Spanner raised an eyebrow at the comment but kept quiet.
"Just go away, Smurf…" Molly sighed and nodded back to the volleyball game. "They're waiting for you…"
"Why don't you come over and play?"
"Cos I don't wanna play."
"Come on, Molls…You'd rather hang out with us then them lots, wouldn't you?" Smurf said quietly and attempted to nod subtly at Spanner.
Molly looked at the SF man and saw he seemed to be taking an interest in something that was going on in the distance but knew very well he was taking in everything that was being said in their conversation.
"I'll come over in a bit."
Smurf looked between her and Spanner again, still not moving.
"Smurf, go play your game." She said. "Just give me a minute."
"Okay…" He gave a nod and slowly backed away, still reluctant to leave.
Molly waited until he re-joined the others before looking at Spanner. "Sorry about that."
"He really doesn't like us, does he?"
"He's having a tough time lately…" Molly tried to defend her friend but it sounded weak even to her own ears. "He's not a bad guy…"
"Well, I didn't mean to cause you any trouble but I have a message for you...from the boss."
"Elvis?" Molly turned to face him with a frown, wondering why he hadn't come and found her himself.
"He was looking for you this morning but couldn't find you…" Spanner replied, as if reading her mind. "He was on a bit of a time deadline so he asked me to pass it on to you…"
"A time deadline? What does that even mean?" She questioned. "Where is he?"
"He's gone…" Spanner answered. "Got a flight back to the UK about 30 minutes ago."
"Major Beck let him go?"
"The boss…He got a call…from Mr. James…"
"Bossman's father?"
Spanner nodded. "There's been a complication…."
"What?" Molly's eyes widened. "What happened? He is okay, isn't he?"
"I don't really know the details but apparently Captain James was rushed into surgery again and has been admitted to the intensive care unit." Spanner said softly. "He's been listed as critical….Elvis tried to get Beck to allow you to fly back too but unless you're down as next of kin then there's not much they could do…"
"But they've let Elvis go?"
"He made some phone calls and pulled some strings." Spanner told her. "There are a lot of people in the Army who have a great deal of respect for both him and Captain James."
Molly sat numbly, staring back towards the Volleyball game. "He's critical?"
"They're hoping after this second surgery, he'll improve."
Molly pulled her knees up, hugging them to her chest and chewed on her thumb nail. She fought with all that she had not to burst into tears. She swallowed the lump that had risen in her throat and blinked rapidly to stop the tears from rolling down her face. She took a few deep, shaky breaths before looking back at him.
"You know?" She questioned quietly. "Elvis told you about me and…"
Spanner gave her a small smile when she trailed off. "He wanted someone to look out for you until your back home…He hasn't told me the whole story…Just that it's important you're kept up to date on what's going on…He doesn't have your direct number and was worried he wouldn't be able to get hold of you…This way he can pass on any messages through me…."
Molly looked back towards her section when she heard a cheer go up and saw Fingers and Brains lifting Kinders up in celebration. "They don't know."
Spanner followed her gaze. "All I plan on doing is letting you and only you know what Elvis tells me…I'm also here if you need a chat."
Molly nodded silently, not trusting her voice again. She saw Smurf looking over at them curiously but fortunately Baz threw him the ball before he had chance to walk over to them again.
"Can I give you some advice?" Spanner started and nodded his head towards Smurf. "To pass on to your mate…"
"I'm pretty sure you'll tell me anyway." Molly muttered.
"I've worked for Elvis for a while now….and I've known Captain James for almost as long… It's pretty intense doing this job … and when we're not working; Elvis is a pretty easy going guy…likes a good laugh and doesn't take much seriously…" Spanner stated. "But he takes loyalty to another level when it comes to the people he really cares about…"
"What are you doing? Writing his dating profile or something?"
"Him and Captain James go deeper than just friends…they've been through a lot together…"
"If you're trying to tell me they have some forbidden love thing going on…" Molly joked.
Spanner smirked at the comment but continued. "I'm just saying, you might want to warn your mate that Elvis is pretty protective…if he thinks someone is trying to mess with his best friend or harm him in anyway, then if won't end well…"
Molly believed him; in the short time she had known Elvis, she had seen different sides to him. The Special Forces side, where he showed he was just as good as everyone said he was. The side where he acted like a big kid and somehow managed to get the Bossman to as well. She had also seen his reaction towards Smurf…she couldn't help but feel it was only a matter of time before Elvis snapped…Maybe it was a good thing they were no longer in the same country.
"The reason Elvis hasn't already punched his lights out is because Captain James asked him not to and to try and get along with everyone in the section." Spanner continued.
Molly shook her head a little, watching Smurf and Nude-nut fooling around. "He's been a good mate to me…the way he's been acting lately, isn't who he is…or who I thought he was…I just want everything to go back to how it was…The boss to be okay and Smurf to be my mate again…"
"Hopefully in a few days it will do." Spanner said softly. "Soon you'll be back in the UK and can see Captain James for yourself…and maybe the end of tour is getting to your mate over there…Can be a bit weird when you've been stuck in a dangerous place for so long with all the same people…Take a bit of getting used to being back home."
"Maybe…" Molly said quietly, her eyes still on Smurf…She had a feeling it wasn't going to be that simple.
"I'll leave you to it…" Spanner pushed himself to his feet. "If I hear anything, you'll be the first to know…and anything you need…let me know."
Molly looked up at him and managed to give him a small smile. "Thank you."
"All part of the service." He replied with a shrug before walking off.
"Molls!" Smurf shouted gaining her attention as he once again headed towards her. "Come on!"
"Yeah, come on Dawesy…" Baz threw her the ball as he and the others followed Smurf over.
Molly just about managed to catch it and immediately threw it back, brushing the sand off the sand that had showered her. "I'm not in the mood."
"What did he want?" Smurf jerked his head in Spanner's direction.
"He was just chatting…"
"So, you'd rather hang out with Special Forces then us?"
"Course, she wouldn't…" Fingers dropped down on the sand next to her and put his arm around her. "Would you Dawesy?"
"Well, she's spent all her time with that Elvis twat…" Smurf said bitterly.
"Oh, give it a rest, Smurf…" Brains said before Molly could snap back at him.
"I'm just saying…" Smurf threw his hands up in the air.
"They're not trying to steal you away from us, are they?" Mansfield asked with a teasing tone in his voice but she could tell he was curious too.
"No one is stealing me from anywhere…" Molly replied, knowing at some point she was going to have to tell them that once this tour was over, she would be returning to her old section. "And you don't have to worry about Elvis anymore either…He's on his way back to the UK."
Kinders frowned down at her. "Thought he was here for the duration…"
"Yeah, well things change."
"What things? Captain James?" Kinders questioned, he knew that Major Beck wanted Elvis to stay on until they finished the investigation.
Molly turned her attention to the water again, her fist clenched together tightly in an attempt to hold in her emotions.
"He's taken a turn for the worse…apparently needed another operation and is in intensive care….they say he's critical." She informed them and pushed herself to her feet. "I'm going back to my room…."
"Molly, wait." Brains stopped her. "Don't go and be on your own…"
"I just want to lie down…" She shook her head. "I'm fine, really…"
"It's not your fault, Molls." He added.
"No? If I hadn't got involved…"
"You can't take the blame for this, Dawes…" Kinders cut her off.
Molly glanced at Smurf and wondered whether he was feeling as guilty as she felt but he refused to meet her eye. He certainly hadn't been acting like it.
"You lot can carry on playing games and having fun but I can't…" She shook her head. "Not when the boss is in hospital because of me… Because I didn't listen to him and kept getting involved with Bashira..."
"Molls…" Nude-Nut tried to put a hand on her shoulder but she shrugged it off before turning away.
"He could already be dead for all we know…" She continued. "Not that you lot care…as long as it doesn't interrupt your beach time!"
"Don't say that!" Brains stepped in front of her blocking her from walking away. "Of course we care… maybe we didn't realize how bad it was but we thought he was getting better."
"Yeah, I didn't think it would be possible for him not to be okay." Mansfield added. "He always seemed bullet proof…"
"Yeah, well…turns out he's not." Molly said before pushing past Brains.
"Molls, where are you going?" Smurf called and started to follow her.
"Leave her, Smurf…" Kinders stopped him. "Maybe we need to do what she says and give her space, yeah?"
"Is that really a good idea?" Brains asked in concern as they all watch Molly disappear from sight.
"I'll make sure she talks to someone." Kinders replied.
"And the boss?" Baz questioned. "He'll be okay, won't he?"
"I'll go and see if I can find out any information." Kinders nodded his head in the direction of the hotel. "Come on, let's get some food."
"Will we be able to see the boss when we get back?" Dangles asked as they all slowly made their way along the beach.
"Hasn't he suffered enough?" Kinders joked.
"Hey, if he's in one of them comas, maybe us being there will help bring him out of it." Mansfield stated. "He'll have to wake up to tell us to shut the fuck up…he likes doing that."
"And think of all those nurses who will love war heroes like us," Nude-nut added.
Kinders dropped back until he was walking in line with Smurf. "You heard what I said? Leave Dawes alone for a bit…"
"She's a mate…"
"Yeah, which mean she'll talk to you when she's ready." Kinders told him. "Give her space and everything will be okay."
"Yeah it will be now that loser has gone…"
"Smurf." Kinders said warningly but Smurf just ignored him and ran off to catch up with the others.

"Can you come home? Let me look after you?" Her Mum asked after releasing her from a hug.
She knew she was meant to be going back to Barracks but she couldn't help but wonder what the possibility of sneaking off to Birmingham first was. She knew he was doing better; Elvis had been true to his word and kept her updated but she wanted to see it for her own eyes.
Molly glanced back at her section who were all still spread out the room with their love ones. She spotted Smurf with his Mum who gave her a small wave, which she returned with a small smile; Candy looked so happy to have her son back in one piece.
She knew that they were all worried about her and since her mini melt down on the beach, they had been very sweet and tried to take care of her. It had made the last few days a little more bearable. She even noticed some of them running interference between her and Smurf, which she was grateful for. Despite being concerned about her friend, she wasn't sure how much more of his hovering she could take.
"Sorry, I need to go…" She started but then trailed off when a familiar figure caught her eye. She almost didn't recognise him out of his uniform and watched him make his way over to Major Beck, shaking his hand.
"Molls?" Her Mum prompted.
"What is it?" Her Nan asked. "Is something wrong?"
"Sorry, I just gotta….I'll be back."
"Molly, where you going?" Her Mum called after her but she ignored her.
Her heart started to race as panic washed over her as she headed over to Beck and Elvis, who had also been joined by Kinders. Why would Elvis be here? Was he there because something bad had happened?
"Ah, Dawes…" Beck was the first to see her. "I was explaining to Corporal Kinders here that you have been granted 48 hours special leave."
"Sir?" She blinked in surprise at him before looking questionably at Elvis who looked like he was willing her to go along with it.
"Sorry to hear about your family emergency…" Elvis added when she seemed lost for words.
Beck continued. "You'll need to report to Barracks after."
"Yes, Sir…" She finally managed to say.
"I guess we'll see you in a couple of days then Dawes…" Kinders looked between all three of them, curiously.
"Thank you, Corporal…" Beck gave him a brief smile to dismiss him.
"Sir." Kinders nodded and saluted him before walking away.
Beck waited until he was out of ear shot before turning back to Molly and Elvis.
"Tell Charles he owes me at least a drink or two for this…" He said to Elvis before looking at Molly. "Dawes, I trust you to be discreet about this."
"Sir." She nodded, still not sure what she needed to be discreet about but guessed that the Major was doing her a favour.
"Harte, remind me never to allow you and James to work together again…." He added as he walked off.
"What's going on?" Molly immediately asked Elvis.
"Go speak to your family and then meet me outside in 5 minutes." He told her and started to walk in the direction of her family, gently leading her by her arm.
"Why?"
"You want to see Charlie, don't you?"
"Really?" She stopped, forcing him to as well.
"I couldn't swing you flying back with me…this was the best I could do…" Elvis informed her.
"I'm allowed to go and see him?" She felt tears burn in her eyes.
"If you stop yapping and get a move on, yes." He told her. "5 minutes…I'll be waiting for you."
"Elvis…Is he…?"
"He's doing better, Molly." He claimed. "I promise this isn't cos he's on his death bed or anything…"
Molly let out a sigh of relief. "Good."
"4 minutes, Dawes…"
"Is everything okay, Molls?" Her mum asked in concerned when she returned to them.
"Yeah, sorry…I'm gonna have to go soon." She told them. "I'm sorry you came all this way…"
"Don't be daft! Of course we wanted to come see you…"
"You sure you have to go?" Nan questioned. "Who was that you were talking to? They looked important."
"Kinders, he's my corporal and Major Beck…"
"And the other guy…The good looking one in the normal clothes."
Molly rolled her eyes at her Nan's comment; wondering what reaction she would get if she told Elvis, her Nan said he was good looking….He'd probably be smug about it.
"That's Elvis…"
"I thought he was dead!" Dave joked.
"Sorry, I really gotta go…" She ignored him and hugged them all once. "But I'll call later yeah?"
"Okay, well make sure you take care of yourself…" Belinda hugged her for a second time. "And we'll see you soon."
Molly quickly walked in the direction Elvis had gone and managed to get halfway there before giving in and jogging the rest of the way.

"Come on, Fellas…Let's get a move on." Kinders called out. "The mini bus is waiting."
"Hey, where's Dawesy?" Fingers questioned.
"48 hours special leave." Kinders replied. "Family emergency apparently."
Brains frowned. "She never said…Hope she's okay."
"You lot won't be if you don't get your backsides out and onto that mini bus…"
"Shit…I forgot my beret." Smurf announced.
"For god sake, Smurf….Go but if you're not back in 1 minute, we are leaving without you and I'll declare you AWOL." Kinders threatened.
Smurf took off running and saw it on a chair where he had been sat with his Mum. He was relieved to see she had already gone…There was no way he'd be able to get back in time if she saw him again.
"Hey, Smurfie…" He heard from behind him as he was bending down to pick it up.
Turning around, he was surprised to see Molly's parents and Nan.
"Thought you'd gone already…" Smurf smiled at them. "Where's Molly?"
"Said she had to go back to work…" Belinda replied. "Although, we just wanted to take her home with us…"
"Wait, so there's no family emergency?" He frowned.
The three of them shared a confused look. "Not with our family, no…"
" Ere, maybe they heard about your driving." Dave nudged his mother in law and grinned at Smurf. "Would have thought there was an emergency the way we got here…"
"You can bleedin well walk home…" She shot back at him.
"Is everything okay, Smurf?" Belinda asked in concern.
"Yeah, sorry, I must have got the wrong end of the stick." He forced a smile. "Molly is probably waiting on the bus going back to barracks."
"She went off that that good looking fella she was talking to." Nan stated. "Elvis something…"
"What? He was here?"
"Smurf! Did you go back to Afghan to get that bloody beret?!" Kinders yelled from the door. "Move! Now!"
"You better go." Belinda patted his arm. "But you'll come see us again, won't you?"
"Of course." He couldn't help but smile at the invite.
"Take care of yourself." She added as he made his way over to Kinders.
The rest of the section cheered and clapped when he climbed onto the mini bus but he ignored them as he found an empty seat. His blood beginning to boil.
Why was Molly lying about a family emergency to spend time with Elvis?!

Next chapter, CJ / Molly reunited? And of course, more Elvis…
