This was a hard chapter to write. You'll understand when you read it. Probably.
Warning: Character death.
Ludwig was warm. A warm friend, filling some space of his lost memory. Ludwig held him close.
Sweet words in the language they had made up when they were small innocent children where whispered. Things that made Feliciano smile. Things that only Feliciano and Ludwig understood. I missed you. I was so scared. I thought you were dead. I'm so glad you are alive, here with me.
Any other person would have thought there was something romantic with their relationship. Maybe thought they were lovers. But they were close friends, and only the love of friendship bound them together. Feliciano wanted to be clear with it.
Ludwig smiled softly, which was unusual for him, and patted the smaller man's head. Feliciano smiled back.
Lovino interuppted their reunion. "Uh.. Feliciano…? Do you have something to tell me?" He looked hurt and/or maybe confused as Feliciano looked at him. "Oh. Veh! I remembered something Lovi!" As he hadn't showed his happy side to Lovino that much before, Lovino was pretty surprised by Feliciano's reaction when he saw Ludwig.
"What did you remember..?" Lovino frowned, and the face told Feliciano that he really wanted to know. "I remembered Ludwig!" Both men from the east gave him a slightly strange look. But no one asked.
Gilbert's laugh suddenly lightened the whole mood. Making the situation unserious. "So you found your little bestie huh? Luddy? I'm happy for you!" He went up and patted his brothers back. Ludwig rolled his eyes. "How many times do I have to tell you...? Don't call me Luddy!"
Lovino's eyes followed Feliciano's friend. They were dark, and the green burned with hate. Feliciano was seriously scared.
For the rest of the day, as long as Feliciano stayed close to Ludwig, Lovino refused to speak to him.
Ludwig many times asked him why Lovino was glaring at him. Feliciano just shrugged. He didn't know more than that it hurt his little heart when Lovino ignored him like this.
As evening came, their friends from the east was told to sleep in the living room. Lovino then convinced Feliciano that he was going to sit beside the other until he fell asleep. Not that Feliciano was going to protest.
No, Feliciano just went to bed, and watched Lovino who sat beside him. Lovino looked at the clock next to the bed. The clock that was the only thing they could hear.
The silence made Feliciano feel uneasy.
In the end, Lovino spoke.
"Who is he to you?"
Feliciano blinked a few times. "Who..?"
"Ludwig."
They both went quiet again.
"He's my best friend," Feliciano then said with a tilt of his head. Lovino watched Feliciano's face closely to see if his friend was telling the truth. Feliciano looked as innocent as usual and Lovino decided this answer must be true.
With a little sigh of relief he said, "Good. I wouldn't want him to be any more than that." Lovino leaned over Feliciano, and before Feliciano had understood what he was doing Lovino's lips where pressed to his own.
It wasn't a very long kiss, and Feliciano was too shocked to respond.
"Good night..," Lovino mumbled sadly as they parted, and he left the room. Feliciano wanted to call his name and get him back at his side, but he couldn't get a word out of his mouth. He was stunned.
Slowly Feliciano's face turned red, and he leaned his head back to stare up at the ceiling.
He started thinking about how he would face Lovino the next day. He had seemed so sad when he left, and Feliciano really wanted to tell him something that made him happy the next day. Tell him he had feelings for Lovino? He wasn't even sure Lovino had feelings for him! Maybe kissing people like that was something normal around here? But he somehow though that wasn't it.
Feliciano wondered if Ludwig and Gilbert would notice in the morning. Would they be worried? Would they try to make him and Lovino talk? They didn't even know how Feliciano and Lovino normally acted around each other, did they?
Feliciano then came to think of his newly gained memories. If he had memories from here, didn't that mean that what he thought was the real world was not? Feliciano wasn't the smartest guy, but even he could understand that maybe what he had thought was wrong.
These thoughts made Feliciano pull his hair, curse -which he didn't do so very often- and sigh. He didn't want to think about it. Both worlds were real to him.
With another sigh he closed his eyes and soon Feliciano fell asleep.
He woke up in another world, wrapped in arms he felt oh so secure in. Lovino's arms. Sun burnt arms, tightly holding him. Lovino was sleeping still, so Feliciano woke him up by gently kissing his nose. After a soft touch of his lips on Lovino's nose, eyes opened slowly.
Green met hazle and they both smiled softly at each other, though the dark circles under Lovino's eyes made the sight not as beautiful. Feliciano didn't mind, even though he was a bit worried about his lover.
They shared a soft loving kiss. Feliciano felt his heart ache, and he felt it beat faster. His body shivered in Lovino's arms.
They lied there for an hour at least and kept each other warm under the covers. After that, someone knocked on the door. Lovino was the first to get up and slip a pair of trousers on. He was a fool if he thought he would get a pleasant surprise.
Feliciano followed after him a few minutes later in a pair of boxers, and saw before his eyes how Lovino was threatened once again. More money disappeared and Lovino got more stressed.
Money maybe didn't mean everything to Lovino, but without money, there was no food, no stand in the market, and probably a mafia guy trying to kill them both. Feliciano understood this. He understood too well, and after the money was handed to this person who surely didn't deserve them, Feliciano made sure to embrace Lovino and keep him warm. Cheer him up and love him. He wanted the stress to disappear from Lovino's beautiful features. Because seeing Lovino relaxed and happy meant the world to him, he realised now. It meant so much.
This was what Feliciano did every time. He embraced, he loved and he tried to cheer Lovino up. Sometimes Antonio would help him with the last task. Usually he helped with the money problem too, when he could. Feliciano was very thankful, and told Antonio he would give him something in return one day, because Antonio was such a good friend.
The three tried to meet as often as possible. Antonio was the help they both needed to keep everything together. Not even Lovino could deny it.
Though Feliciano often got jealous, and had moments when he wanted Antonio to back off, he still saw the man as one of his best friends.
When Antonio left, as the sun set, Feliciano and Lovino spent time keeping each other company. Sometimes it was just cuddling, other times romantic love making. They could go on for a long time, sometimes turning more aggressive.
They would bite and lick, thrust and buck, moan and gasp. All those things that in a book would seem forbidden, maybe even disgusting, but there in the now was so utterly wonderful. They fit together like no other. It was amazing.
Still, the burden on Lovino's shoulders got heavier every time the unknown man came by.
Feliciano often discussed this with Antonio when Lovino was out.
"Ve. I don't know what to do. I hold him and I warm him up, but still his whole body remains tense. I don't know what to do Toni." Feliciano frowned. Wrinkles formed on his forehead in concentration. "What should I do?" Antonio tried to calm him. "Sh. Take it easy amigo. He'll be fine. This will be over soon and we can all relax. Okay?"
Feliciano had to believe Antonio's words and hope for a lighter future. But in this world there was no light future.
The day came, when Lovino said no. No more. I won't let myself get robbed like this.
The morning of this day was a pretty one. The sun seeped through the curtains. The dust in the air shone like small small starts.
Feliciano and Lovino had spent most of the night passionately making love, and they both lied curled up in each others arms.
Lovino woke up first, when the light hit his eyelids. Feliciano woke up as Lovino started moving to get out of the bed.
Together they went and heated some water so they could take a bath. After cleaning them selves off all dried sweat and other substances, the two got out of the tub and got dressed. The water was dumped into the river, and the couple decided it was time to eat breakfast.
In the middle of this delicious breakfast someone knocked on the door. As usual Lovino was the one to go open the door.
After a few minutes, Feliciano started wondering why Lovino had not come back to the dinning table, and he got up to find him.
Lovino was still standing by the door. He and the unknown man from before was arguing. It was of course about the money.
"I will pay you no more!" Lovino angrily said. The man replied with an angry growl, "I have a gun. Just give me the money already."
Feliciano frowned, and was about to come out from his hiding spot behind the corner where he was spying on them.
"Then shoot me!" There was a short silence and both Feliciano and Lovino held their breaths. The unknown man raised his gun, and PANG. Then, he ran.
Feliciano was absolutely terrified. Frozen to the spot. Lovino fell, backwards. His dead eyes were wide open, and on his forehead was a small hole.
Feliciano felt the air come back to him, but as fast as it came he had screamed it out again. Tears fell down his cheeks.
"No... No! LOVINO! NO!" He was quickly by Lovino's side, and shook him, maybe because he hoped he would wake up.
Feliciano's whole body quivered. He felt his heart beat hard in his chest. Hammer against his ribcage.
So alive.
But there next to him a body laid. The body of the man he loved. And the heart that had been hammering behind those bones and muscles just a few seconds ago, was beating no more.
With a loud sob, he pulled Lovino's dead body into his arms, and held him close.
