"Nate?" Blair was a little shocked.
"Nate?" Serena repeated.
The seas of people parted like the red sea in the Bible.
"Blair, you've been so carefree recently. You've looked so happy. I missed you. I missed us." He walked towards her and cupped her cheek. "We were so happy together."
"I don't know what to say." She didn't relax into his hand.
"Say yes. Say you want me. Say you want us. Say you love me still." Nate gave her his best golden boy smile.
She didn't say anything. She caught a glance of Chuck out of the corner of her eye. "No Nate." She smiled sadly.
"What?" He looked taken back.
"I'm sorry but no." She almost laughed.
"Blair, you aren't thinking straight." He almost attempted to comfort her.
"As you said, I've looked happy. I have been. I don't need this. You don't love me." She smiled sympathetically.
"Blair honey, don't say that." He caressed her face.
She flinched from his touch. "Nate, why don't you go and hit on Serena again?" She fought.
"Blair!" Serena exclaimed.
"S, I know." Blair smiled at her. "I know you rejected him when he came onto you. I know you did that for me."
"Blair, it was out of weakness. She was someone who was for the now but you're the long term girlfriend I need. You could be Mrs Blair Archibald." Nate tried.
The two girls slapped him straight across the face.
"I will never be Mrs Archibald! I will always be Blair Waldorf before anyone else!" Blair stormed off.
"I'm not for the long term? Well you aren't for any term." Serena stormed after Blair.
Nate turned to find Chuck but he just shook his head and walked after the girls.
"Blair, wait." Chuck put his hand in the small of her back when he reached her.
"What?" She turned.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"I am now." She smiled.
"Is there something you want to tell me, Blair?" Serena piped up with a questioning look.
"Like what?" Blair said sickly sweet.
She gestured to Chuck and Blair.
"No, I have nothing to say, S." She gave a sickly sweet grin and then turned to give Chuck a devilish look. "Walk me to class?"
"Can't get enough of me, can you?" Chuck smirked. "This once."
The two looked so powerful walking together.
The day ended and Serena was alone on the walk to her apartment. Her best friend was off doing god knows what with Chuck, her boyfriend was now her ex and the boy she wanted had embarrassed her in front of her classmates.
She dialled a number and put the phone to her ear.
"Eric?"
"No, Serena, it's your mother."
Serena's eyes widened at Lily's voice. "Where's Eric?"
"He's gone out for tutoring today. He needs to get back to St. Jude's by Friday. Have you found a date for Cotillion yet, Serena?"
"No, Lil- I mean mum, I haven't yet."
"Nate Archibald is single."
"Nice hinting."
"I must dash, I have a date." The call ended.
"Serena, I'm so sorry about earlier." Nate jogged up to her, roses in hand.
"Nate, these don't change anything."
"I'm sorry. I thought I had no chance with you so I did what I always do and tried to go back to Blair. I am sorry." He touched her face.
She flinched away at his touch. "Please just go, Nate."
"I'm not asking for you to go out with me. At least, be my friend?"
"I don't know Nate…"
"Don't throw our friendship away, Serena. You know how well we work as friends." He smiled encouragingly.
"Okay. But you have to stop being so silly."
"Well, I heard you didn't have a date to Cotillion. I want to take you. Only as friends though." He asked.
"I'll think about it." She encouraged him. He walked along, watching her throw her head back when she laughed.
Two weeks passed and it was the day of Cotillion.
"Blair, cannot wait for tonight!" Serena bubbled with excitement on the walk back to Blair's apartment.
"Nate and Chuck are collecting us from mine at 7, right?" Blair double checked.
I miss you already.

Blair read the message with a smile.
"Who has been texting you these past few weeks?! It's been driving me insane!" Serena almost shook Blair.
"No one, it's just Hugh texting me!"
"And your secret admirer! If it's just Hugh, can I read it?" Serena asked.
"Invasion of privacy much?" Blair laughed.
"Tell me!" Serena begged.
"No!" Blair laughed again.
This continued all the way up to the suite.
"Hugh, do you know who Blair's secret admirer is?!" Serena asked.
"Blair has a secret admirer?" Hugh winked.
"She keeps texting him!" Serena whined.
"Oh, that's me!" Hugh laughed.
Hugh and Dorota helped the girls prep for cotillion as there was only 3 hours to do everything.
